A Delaware County Grand Jury returned a 9-count indictment against 24 year old Donovan Connelly of Walton, for 6 counts of Sexual Abuse, for the alleged sexual abuse of a 17 year female co-worker while working in a position of authority. Other counts charge Connelly with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, 2 counts of Stalking. Connelly was issued a criminal order of protection, which he violated, which led to a charge of Criminal Contempt. The investigation is continuing, anyone with additional information should contact the Walton Police Department at 607-865-5400.
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration announced an Airport Improvement Grant for the Eaton Airport in Norwich. The grant was for just over $1 Million Dollars and will be used to re-seal & resurface the runway, the grant money will fund about 95% of the project.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli has completed a study of the $277 billion Enacted Budget for the current State Fiscal Year, which has an increase of 7% from the previous State Budget. DiNapoli's report stated the largest increases in spending have been in Medicaid and School Aid, other potential issues are the the retrenchment of federal support; persistent inflation and increasing local government fiscal needs, also the state took action to preserve healthcare coverage for over a million New Yorkers, but that still resulted in 450,000 New Yorkers losing eligibility. The state has significantly increased its reserve levels at approximately $15 billion.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating 38 year old Jennifer Hewitt, who is wanted on a Bench Warrant issued by the Town of Davenport Court, Hewitt was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury on charges of 3rd-degree Grand Larceny recently, following an investigation into a fraud complaint where Hewitt unlawfully issued bad checks totaling more than $14,000 and withdrew the funds without having sufficient balances in her accounts. The State DEC and State Department of Health are issuing an Air Quality Health Advisory for fine particulate for today, for the region due to the impact of smoke from wildfires in Canada. In addition, there is the potential for visible smoke and hazy skies across the state and New Yorkers may see temporary spikes in smoke-related pollution. State Police arrested 3 people following a traffic stop in Broome County. Troopers were patrolling Johnson City & observed a vehicle commit Traffic Law violations. Troopers conducted a traffic stop on Prospect Street in the town of Dickinson. The operator was identified as 51 year old Gregory Jackson of Brooklyn. The passengers were 60 year old Sircurtis King of Binghamton & 38 year old Jhenna Wood of Binghamton. Troopers with the assistance of a State Police K9, located cocaine, fentanyl, a digital scale, packaging materials and a large amount of cash. Jackson, King and Wood were each charged with 4 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 2 counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia and all 3 were processed and were transported to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
The City of Oneonta announced that a contractor working for Firstlight Fiber will be installing new underground fiber cable on Ford Avenue between the intersection of Main St. and the Community Bank driveway entrance, starting at 7:00 AM until the Work is completed. The road will be closed to one lane of traffic with flaggers and temporary no parking will be implemented for both sides of the roadway throughout construction. State Police arrested 26 year old Ryan Gregory of Coram, Wednesday following a neighbor dispute that resulted in a man shot on Houghtaling Hollow Road in the Town of Meredith, Gregory allegedly shot the victim and 2 unoccupied vehicles. A 57-year-old male from Meredith sustained non-life threatening injuries and went to A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta, he was later transported to Albany Medical Center for further treatment. Troopers located Gregory at his local residence where he was in possession of firearms and refused commands to surrender, after several hours, Gregory surrendered and was charged with Attempted Murder, Criminal Use of a Firearm & Additional charges are likely. Gregory was processed then transported to the Delaware County Jail for Arraignment.


A Troy New York man wanted as a suspect in a shooting investigation was apprehended by the Broome County Sheriff’s Strategic Response Group and taken into custody within 5 minutes of his vehicle triggering a license plate reader in the City of Binghamton. On Wednesday, local law enforcement received an Attempt to Locate bulletin from the Watervliet Police Department regarding a possibly armed male suspect and vehicle wanted in relation to a shooting investigation in Watervliet. The vehicle was located in Binghamton, a traffic stop was conducted at a fast food drive through lane the unidentified suspect was taken into custody, members of the Watervliet Police took custody of the suspect and he was returned to answer for his charges.


Attorney General Letitia James today announced that 74 year old Miles Marshall of Hamilton was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison for operating a Ponzi scheme that fraudulently stole more than $50 million from 988 investors in Madison County and other nearby counties. Marshall convinced unsuspecting clients to invest millions of dollars into his so-called "Eight Percent Fund," claiming that their funds would be primarily used for real estate investments, Instead, Marshall used the funds to pay investment returns to prior investors, cover the expenses of his other businesses, and to fund shopping trips, vacations, and restaurant visits. Marshall's scheme lasted three decades, and in April, he pleaded guilty as a result of investigation.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office and the Broome County Health Department provided an update on the response to the outbreak of Salmonella that hit the Broome County Correctional Facility earlier this week. Over 300 incarcerated individuals reporting gastrointestinal illness since Monday, 10 were hospitalized, Dozens of medical and healthcare workers responded, hundreds of bottles of water were sent, antibiotics were provided, After it was determined that Salmonella was what affected the inmates, On Thursday, Servpro completed a deep cleaning of all kitchen, programming areas, hallways and common areas within the Correctional Facility. All laundry and linens have been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Today, regular schedules resumed, visitation hours return on Monday morning.


State Police today announced that they issued a total of 11,104 tickets statewide during the Memorial Day Weekend enforcement campaign. Troopers arrested 211 people for DWI and investigated 693 crashes, with four fatal crashes reported. In Troop C, there were 894 tickets issued, 12 for DWI, 254 for speeding, 195 seat belts violations & 52 violators of the Move Over Law.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old Alexander Gutierrez of Milford & 28 year old Jordan Gutierrez-Champen for Introducing dangerous contraband in to prison & Conspiracy, following an investigation into suspicious activity in the Otsego County Jail in 2025. Investigators were notified by corrections staff that they had intercepted a letter hidden in a bible which detailed the receipt of contraband by mail to an inmate, they obtained a search warrant for Gutierrez-Champen’s mail, a page had been saturated with a controlled substance later identified as a synthetic cannabis known as “K2.” On Wednesday, deputies located Alexander Gutierrez in the Town of Otego and took him in to custody, he was processed and released. On Thursday deputies responded to the Lakeview Correctional Facility in Chautauqua County and took Jordan Gutierrez-Champen in to custody, he was transported to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office where he was held for Arraignment.

GE Aerospace has announced plans to invest over $11 million at their Facilities over the next 3 years, nearly $3 million at the company's site in Chenango County. Company Officials said that the latest investment will go toward upgrading new manufacturing and testing equipment, as well as building improvements. 2026 marks the company's second consecutive $1 billion investment by GE Aerospace, in 17 states & they expect to hire 5,000 workers.


FDA and USDA both report a large spike in food recall recently, total U.S. recalls jumped 21.4% from 2021 to 2025, with 35% of all U.S. food recalls over the last 5 years impacting New York State residents. New York State Residents were affected by 937 recalls over the study period, 388 were Class I recalls, for the most hazardous products, which have higher risks of causing serious adverse health consequences or even death. During the study period, 9.4% of all food recalls originated from New York State producers. The report can be found at traceone.com.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 44 year old John Williams of Unadilla following an investigation into a physical domestic dispute that occurred in the Town of Unadilla. Williams was found to have used physical force against the victim while in the presence of 3 children, he was taken into custody after a brief standoff with police at the residence, he was processed and turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment.


Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Michelle Nichols of Unadilla, for Driving While Intoxicated, Operate Motor Vehicle .08 of 1% or more of alcohol-1st Offense, Speed not reasonable and several other charges, following a property damage motor vehicle accident on State Highway 7 in the Town of Unadilla. Nichols was found to have operated a motor vehicle on public roadway while intoxicated by alcohol, she was taken into custody and was processed and was released with an Appearance Ticket for Town of Unadilla Court at a later date.

The State DEC today filed a notice with the Federal Energy Regulatory Committee to oppose Constitution Pipeline Company, LLC’s petition to reissue a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity and override DEC’s oversight authority under the Clean Water Act for the proposed pipeline project. The DEC officials said that the company is attempting to bypass critical environmental reviews and undercut New York State’s regulatory authority. DEC did not waive its Clean Water Act Section 401 authority and will explore all available options to defend the state rights.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 46 year old Dana DioGuardi of the Town of Chenango after allegedly stealing multiple vehicles, one containing two children in the Town of Chenango. Early Monday, Deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle, the owner had left the SUV running in the parking lot of the Dollar General on Route 12 as he was plowing snow using another vehicle, he saw a woman drive off with 2 children inside the vehicle, he followed in the 2nd vehicle, DioGuardi stopped, he pulled her out, she then tried to take the other vehicle but the owner removed her from that vehicle, she fled on foot & was uncooperative, fighting with deputies & kicking a State Trooper in the face. DioGuardi was charged with Grand Larceny, Attempted Grand Larceny, 2 Counts of Child Endangerment, 2 Counts of Kidnapping, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, she was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Sidney Village Police responded Monday to a report of a domestic dispute at 21 Manatee Avenue, as officers arrived, 29 year old Laurent Paul of Sidney fled the scene in a vehicle, Officers learned that Paul encountered Sullivan County Law enforcement on State Route 17 and fled back to Delaware County, Sidney Officers observed Paul on State Route 8 towards the Village, driving erratically & at a high rate of speed, he stopped at the Manatee Ave address, attempted to flee on foot, sprayed mace at officers, who employed a taser and took him into custody. Paul was charged with Endangering the welfare of a child, 2 counts of Obstruction of governmental administration, Criminal mischief, Attempted Assault, Resisting arrest & Reckless driving, among other charges, he was arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County jail on $5000 bail.

Norwich Police Department concluded a two-month investigation into allegations of child abuse and sexual abuse, they arrested 33 year old Rolando Antonio of Guatemala, for Sexual Abuse & Forcible Touching, he is accused of sexually abused a 3-year-old child in the City of Norwich. On Thursday, officers and detectives from the Norwich City Police Department & State Police, arrested Antonio, he was arraigned in Norwich City Court and is being held on $20,000 bail, with a court appearance scheduled for a later date. The investigation is ongoing, and more charges are expected.


Saturday will be "AIRPORT DAY 2025" from 8 AM to 3 PM at Eaton Airport in Norwich. The event is free to the public, rides are available and their will be various exhibits, The event is rain or shine.


There will be a Village Election for registered voters in the Village of Oxford Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 9:00 PM at the Oxford Fire Station, on Main Street. 45 year old Cruz Garcia of Fleischmanns pleaded guilty in Delaware County court Tuesday to Strangulation, he is now clear to be deported. Garcia initiated a violent encounter against a female victim in 2023, a 3 count Indictment was returned for Strangulation, Unlawful Imprisonment, and 1st degree Rape, the victim was transported to a hospital because of the injuries sustained. Garcia has been incarcerated since his arrest for this incident, , which occurred while Garcia was released on separate unrelated felony charges of DWI in Orange County, plus Garcia lacked legal status in the United States and was wanted by Immigration, on a 3rd unrelated conviction, Garcia will be deported & a sentence of time served was deemed appropriate.


Afton Central School District will be running on a 2-hour delay today for all students. All field trips and after school activities will be canceled for the day, as the district has had issues with water quality since Wednesday morning.

State Police responded Thursday at about 11:45 AM to a motorcycle and a utility truck crash on Bert Washburn Road in the town of Otego. An investigation revealed that a utility truck was parked and unoccupied when 39 year old Robert Burns of Otego lost control of his motorcycle and slid into the front of the utility truck. He was thrown from the motorcycle and was located underneath the truck. Troopers, Otego EMS and Otego Fire rendered aid to Burns, but he was pronounced deceased on scene. The investigation is ongoing.


State Police announced that a woman wanted in connection with a triple homicide was taken into custody Thursday following a vehicle pursuit in I-86. A State Trooper initiated a traffic stop, the suspect failed to comply, so pursuit was initiated into Steuben County where Sheriff's Deputies assisted. A tire deflation device was used & 23 year old Alyssa Venable of Spotsylvania, Virginia, was taken into custody. Venable was wanted on 3 counts of 2nd-degree murder and criminal use of a firearm, Venable will be returned to Virginia shortly.


The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a head-on collision that claimed the lives of 2 people and a dog on State Route 369 in the Town of Fenton this morning at approximately 9:00 AM. The investigation revealed that the driver of a BMW traveling southbound on State Route 369 veered into the northbound lane at a high rate of speed and collided head-on with a Honda Civic. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. A dog riding in the Honda Civic was also killed in crash. Identities of the victims have not been disclosed pending notification of their families. The Broome County Sheriff’s investigators are asking anyone who has information or may have witnessed this incident to contact the tip Line at 607-778-1196.

Chenango Memorial Hospital is closing the long-term care unit located on the hospital’s second floor as of January 31st. CMH will no longer be accepting new residents and, over the next 2 months, they will work closely with our residents and their families to ensure their placement in other long-term care facilities. 19 residents are currently at the facility, and employees of the facility will be transferred to other positions across the Hospital's departments. The hospital’s board and leadership team are currently exploring options for alternative uses for the second floor of the hospital.


Bassett Healthcare Network’s board of directors announced that President and CEO, Dr. Tommy Ibrahim, has decided to leave the organization at the end of the year. The Bassett Healthcare Network board has voted to appoint Staci Thompson, who is the Bassett Healthcare Network’s current executive vice president and chief operating officer, as Dr. Ibrahim’s successor, on an interim basis starting on January 1st. Attorney General Letitia James today announced the takedown of a major drug trafficking ring that was distributing heroin and fentanyl, as well as powder and crack cocaine in Rensselaer, Albany, Saratoga, Schenectady, and Dutchess counties. The takedown resulted in the indictment of 25 individuals charged with 164 crimes and recovered cocaine, heroin laced with fentanyl, which have a street value of approximately $350,000 plus 4 handguns, 2 large capacity ammunition feeding devices, and the seizure of over $50,000 in cash.


A Lawsuit was filed in Broome County Supreme Court against the Vestal School District where a former Vestal High School student alleges that economics teacher Robert Carr asked her to meet him, he allegedly kissed the victim numerous times, groped her inappropriately and continued to force sexual activity upon her until she moved to the state of Texas and changed her phone number. The lawsuit claims that School Officials did not take any action against Carr after learning of the accusations.

On Tuesday, Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the US Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 22 year old Nathan Williams Jr. of Endicott, at 68 Thorp Street in the City of Binghamton. Williams was wanted by the Endicott Police Department for Murder in connection with the shooting death of 25-year-old Molique Dawson in Endicott in July. The Metro SWAT Team of the Binghamton Police Department executed the search warrant and Williams was successfully taken into custody after a 5 hour standoff, Williams was transported to the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility, arraigned at Central Arraignment and is currently being held without bail.


Congressman Marc Molinaro announced over $3.5 million in federal funding will go to 9 airports for infrastructure improvements. Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 44 year old Mishawn Kampsula of Deposit for Operating a Motor Vehicle while intoxicated. Deputies observed a vehicle Saturday backing unsafely from Depot Street onto State Highway 268, Deputies conducted a traffic stop, Deputies charged Kampsula with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, moving from lane unsafely, unsafe backing, backing on a highway, unlicensed operator and operating out of class, she was issued traffic summonses, and an appearance ticket and was directed to appear in the Town of Hancock Court at a later date.


Governor Kathy Hochul announced that airports across the State will receive approximately $49 million for strategic infrastructure enhancements that will enhance safety, facilitate innovation, leverage existing resources, advance business development, and promote sustainability and resiliency. Locally, the Eaton Airport, in Norwich will receive $600,000 toward the acquisition of a new snow removal equipment vehicle and attachments & the Tri-Cities Airport, Broome County will get $1.2 million toward the replacement of the existing refueling facility and the installation of new fuel tanks as well as a new self-service credit card reader and tank monitoring system.


Congressman Marc Molinaro announced that SUNY Binghamton’s New Energy New York Battery Tech Hub was designated as one of the 31 inaugural Tech Hubs. New Energy New York will now be eligible to apply for the next phase of the Tech Hubs Program that will invest between $50-$75 million in each of 5-10 Designated Hubs.

State Police were dispatched Friday Night to a fatal crash on State Route 13 in the town of Newfield. A preliminary investigation reveals that a 42 year old Patrick Robinson of Ithaca lost control of a motorcycle on wet roads, laying the bike down, A Passerby, 34 year old Mathew Poplawski of Schenectady stopped to assist Robinson when a vehicle stuck both men, both were pronounced deceased on scene. The operator of the vehicle was a 57-year-old man from Illinois is cooperating with State Police, Alcohol does not appear to be a factor. The investigation is on-going.


Sidney Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire with possible entrapment at approximately 5:44 am Friday at 50 East Main Street, lot 19 in the village of Sidney. All residents were out, Sidney Fire units had the fire extinguished within 15 minutes, The fire was determined as accidental in nature, starting in a bedroom. Sidney was assisted by firefighters from Bainbridge, Unadilla, Wells Bridge, Sidney Center and Sidney Fire Department Auxiliary.


The trial of the Yaron Kweller and Jordan Rindgen on rape charges, will begin today in Broome County, both men were part owners of the Colonial restaurant in Binghamton & they are accused of sexually assaulting 2 women on November 27, 2021. Jury Selection in the case gets underway this morning.
