Another Sidney Community Clean-Up will be held at Keith Clark Park on Saturday, the Starting time is set for 9:00 at the park pavilion. Volunteers will help variety of jobs throughout the walking trail areas. some tools will be available, or volunteers may bring their favorite shovels, pruners or other gardening gear. The Unadilla Flag Day Parade will be held on Main Street in Unadilla, this Sunday featuring marching bands, vintage tractors, antique vehicles, and dozens of local fire departments. The Parade starts at 3:00 PM from Unatego Elementary School to the Community House.

State Police arrested 26 year old Ryan Gregory of Coram, Wednesday following a neighbor dispute that resulted in a man shot on Houghtaling Hollow Road in the Town of Meredith, Gregory allegedly shot the victim and 2 unoccupied vehicles. A 57-year-old male from Meredith sustained non-life threatening injuries and went to A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta, he was later transported to Albany Medical Center for further treatment. Troopers located Gregory at his local residence where he was in possession of firearms and refused commands to surrender, after several hours, Gregory surrendered and was charged with Attempted Murder, Criminal Use of a Firearm & Additional charges are likely. Gregory was processed then transported to the Delaware County Jail for Arraignment.

A Troy New York man wanted as a suspect in a shooting investigation was apprehended by the Broome County Sheriff’s Strategic Response Group and taken into custody within 5 minutes of his vehicle triggering a license plate reader in the City of Binghamton. On Wednesday, local law enforcement received an Attempt to Locate bulletin from the Watervliet Police Department regarding a possibly armed male suspect and vehicle wanted in relation to a shooting investigation in Watervliet. The vehicle was located in Binghamton, a traffic stop was conducted at a fast food drive through lane the unidentified suspect was taken into custody, members of the Watervliet Police took custody of the suspect and he was returned to answer for his charges.
Attorney General Letitia James today announced that 74 year old Miles Marshall of Hamilton was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison for operating a Ponzi scheme that fraudulently stole more than $50 million from 988 investors in Madison County and other nearby counties. Marshall convinced unsuspecting clients to invest millions of dollars into his so-called "Eight Percent Fund," claiming that their funds would be primarily used for real estate investments, Instead, Marshall used the funds to pay investment returns to prior investors, cover the expenses of his other businesses, and to fund shopping trips, vacations, and restaurant visits. Marshall's scheme lasted three decades, and in April, he pleaded guilty as a result of investigation.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office and the Broome County Health Department provided an update on the response to the outbreak of Salmonella that hit the Broome County Correctional Facility earlier this week. Over 300 incarcerated individuals reporting gastrointestinal illness since Monday, 10 were hospitalized, Dozens of medical and healthcare workers responded, hundreds of bottles of water were sent, antibiotics were provided, After it was determined that Salmonella was what affected the inmates, On Thursday, Servpro completed a deep cleaning of all kitchen, programming areas, hallways and common areas within the Correctional Facility. All laundry and linens have been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Today, regular schedules resumed, visitation hours return on Monday morning.

State Police today announced that they issued a total of 11,104 tickets statewide during the Memorial Day Weekend enforcement campaign. Troopers arrested 211 people for DWI and investigated 693 crashes, with four fatal crashes reported. In Troop C, there were 894 tickets issued, 12 for DWI, 254 for speeding, 195 seat belts violations & 52 violators of the Move Over Law.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old Alexander Gutierrez of Milford & 28 year old Jordan Gutierrez-Champen for Introducing dangerous contraband in to prison & Conspiracy, following an investigation into suspicious activity in the Otsego County Jail in 2025. Investigators were notified by corrections staff that they had intercepted a letter hidden in a bible which detailed the receipt of contraband by mail to an inmate, they obtained a search warrant for Gutierrez-Champen’s mail, a page had been saturated with a controlled substance later identified as a synthetic cannabis known as “K2.” On Wednesday, deputies located Alexander Gutierrez in the Town of Otego and took him in to custody, he was processed and released. On Thursday deputies responded to the Lakeview Correctional Facility in Chautauqua County and took Jordan Gutierrez-Champen in to custody, he was transported to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office where he was held for Arraignment.

Company Officials said that the latest investment will go toward upgrading new manufacturing and testing equipment, as well as building improvements. 2026 marks the company's second consecutive $1 billion investment by GE Aerospace, in 17 states & they expect to hire 5,000 workers.

Sidney Village Police responded Monday to a report of a domestic dispute at 21 Manatee Avenue, as officers arrived, 29 year old Laurent Paul of Sidney fled the scene in a vehicle, Officers learned that Paul encountered Sullivan County Law enforcement on State Route 17 and fled back to Delaware County, Sidney Officers observed Paul on State Route 8 towards the Village, driving erratically & at a high rate of speed, he stopped at the Manatee Ave address, attempted to flee on foot, sprayed mace at officers, who employed a taser and took him into custody. Paul was charged with Endangering the welfare of a child, 2 counts of Obstruction of governmental administration, Criminal mischief, Attempted Assault, Resisting arrest & Reckless driving, among other charges, he was arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County jail on $5000 bail.

Norwich Police Department concluded a two-month investigation into allegations of child abuse and sexual abuse, they arrested 33 year old Rolando Antonio of Guatemala, for Sexual Abuse & Forcible Touching, he is accused of sexually abused a 3-year-old child in the City of Norwich. On Thursday, officers and detectives from the Norwich City Police Department & State Police, arrested Antonio, he was arraigned in Norwich City Court and is being held on $20,000 bail, with a court appearance scheduled for a later date. The investigation is ongoing, and more charges are expected.

45 year old Cruz Garcia of Fleischmanns pleaded guilty in Delaware County court Tuesday to Strangulation, he is now clear to be deported. Garcia initiated a violent encounter against a female victim in 2023, a 3 count Indictment was returned for Strangulation, Unlawful Imprisonment, and 1st degree Rape, the victim was transported to a hospital because of the injuries sustained. Garcia has been incarcerated since his arrest for this incident, , which occurred while Garcia was released on separate unrelated felony charges of DWI in Orange County, plus Garcia lacked legal status in the United States and was wanted by Immigration, on a 3rd unrelated conviction, Garcia will be deported & a sentence of time served was deemed appropriate.

State Police responded Thursday at about 11:45 AM to a motorcycle and a utility truck crash on Bert Washburn Road in the town of Otego. An investigation revealed that a utility truck was parked and unoccupied when 39 year old Robert Burns of Otego lost control of his motorcycle and slid into the front of the utility truck. He was thrown from the motorcycle and was located underneath the truck. Troopers, Otego EMS and Otego Fire rendered aid to Burns, but he was pronounced deceased on scene. The investigation is ongoing.

State Police announced that a woman wanted in connection with a triple homicide was taken into custody Thursday following a vehicle pursuit in I-86. A State Trooper initiated a traffic stop, the suspect failed to comply, so pursuit was initiated into Steuben County where Sheriff's Deputies assisted. A tire deflation device was used & 23 year old Alyssa Venable of Spotsylvania, Virginia, was taken into custody. Venable was wanted on 3 counts of 2nd-degree murder and criminal use of a firearm, Venable will be returned to Virginia shortly.

Attorney General Letitia James today announced the takedown of a major drug trafficking ring that was distributing heroin and fentanyl, as well as powder and crack cocaine in Rensselaer, Albany, Saratoga, Schenectady, and Dutchess counties. The takedown resulted in the indictment of 25 individuals charged with 164 crimes and recovered cocaine, heroin laced with fentanyl, which have a street value of approximately $350,000 plus 4 handguns, 2 large capacity ammunition feeding devices, and the seizure of over $50,000 in cash.
A Lawsuit was filed in Broome County Supreme Court against the Vestal School District where a former Vestal High School student alleges that economics teacher Robert Carr asked her to meet him, he allegedly kissed the victim numerous times, groped her inappropriately and continued to force sexual activity upon her until she moved to the state of Texas and changed her phone number. The lawsuit claims that School Officials did not take any action against Carr after learning of the accusations.

Williams was wanted by the Endicott Police Department for Murder in connection with the shooting death of 25-year-old Molique Dawson in Endicott in July. The Metro SWAT Team of the Binghamton Police Department executed the search warrant and Williams was successfully taken into custody after a 5 hour standoff, Williams was transported to the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility, arraigned at Central Arraignment and is currently being held without bail.

The National Transportation Safety Board released information regarding the crash of a single engine Cessna Airplane on May 28th in the town of Plymouth at about 2:50 PM, the pilot, Shawn McMahon of Binghamton, was fatally injured. The plane flew 2 separate sky diving flights that day, a co-owner of the airplane reported that following the 2nd flight, McMahon determined that he had 40 gallons of fuel. During the accident flight, McMahon announced that the skydivers were away & he was descending rapidly, a follow up announcement was unintelligible. 1 eyewitness told investigators that an airplane flew near her house very low, with the engine sputtering & the pilot attempted to start the engine unsuccessfully & she heard the impact, another eyewitness heard the engine shut off earlier when the skydivers jumped, the engine restarted and the plane continued. The investigation is continuing.

Governor Hochul announced today that New York will be sending engineers to Perform Dam Safety Inspections in Vermont, after their recent devastating flooding. So far, New York has deployed 9 engineers from the New York Power Authority and the Department of Environmental Conservation to Montpelier, Vermont to assist in performing dam safety evaluations throughout the state. The Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services is coordinating additional incoming requests for assistance from Vermont and State agency partners stand ready to provide resources as necessary.

Troopers arrested 399 people for DWI and investigated 2,436 crashes, including 410 personal injury crashes and 2 fatal crashes. Troopers wrote over 10,600 tickets for speeding, over 1300 for Distracted Driving, over 8400 for Seat-belt violations & 337 for violating the Move Over Law.

Broome County Sheriff's Deputies responded Tuesday to a report of a physical injury domestic dispute in the Town of Binghamton, they found a female victim with lacerations, 38 year old Adam Gurney of Binghamton, was arrested, after deputies found that he had a full Stay Away Order of Protection against him, he also had an outstanding arrest warrant through the Town of Vestal, for violating an order of protection. Gurney was charged with Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Family Offense, Criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, he was arraigned and has remained in custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.

Nauman Hussain was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison following victim impact statements at the Schoharie County Court today, he was convicted on 20 counts of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, Hussain operated Prestige Limo, which owned the uninspected stretch limo that crashed in Schoharie where 20 people were killed in October 2018. Hussain's Attorney is expected to appeal.

The State DEC is warning New Yorkers of an increased Fire danger today, as much of the state has had little to no rain over the last 10 days & there will be higher temperatures over the next few days. There are currently 11 active wildfires in the state, all were started by human activity.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene of a pedestrian-train accident near the Crocker Hill Rd area in the Town of Fenton Tuesday. The Sheriff’s Office stated that 17-year-old Jakob McCloe of Port Crane was walking westbound on the Norfolk Southern Railroad Tracks near Crocker Hill Road, he was wearing noise-canceling headphones and was unable to hear the train approaching, the engineer attempted to signal multiple times to get McCloe’s attention, he was unable to stop the train, and at 8:53 am, McCloe was struck and killed and pronounced at the scene. McCloe was a student at the Chenango Valley School District.
The Chenango County Sheriff's Office reported that Shawn McMahon of Binghamton was the pilot & only occupant of a plane that crashed Sunday in Norwich. The National Transportation Safety Board said that the Cessna 182D plane crashed just before 3:00 PM Sunday about 1 mile west of the Eaton Airport, he had taken off from the airport and was attempting to return to the airport at the time of the crash. The investigation has been opened by the NTSB and the FAA.
The Norwich Fire Department responded Monday to a fire at Peacock Manor Apartments on Brown Street. Firefighters arrived at about 2:10 PM, where they encountered heavy smoke on the first floor. Firefighters located the fire, which was extinguished and under control within minutes. EMS crews evaluated 4 residents at the scene, with 2 taken to UHS Chenango Memorial ER for smoke inhalation, they were treated & released, No firefighters were injured.

Bradley Law of Harpursville was arraigned Tuesday in Broome County Court for Leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident and criminal possession of a firearm. Law is accused of running over 13 year old Brennan Loveless as he was riding a bicycle on January 1st on State Route 7 near his home on Belden Manor Road in Sanitaria Springs. Law allegedly fled the scene, Loveless was eventually taken to Syracuse Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Law was apprehended the following day after he reported that his pickup truck had driven into a ditch along Bevier Street in an attempt to avoid striking a deer, investigators determined that Law's truck was the one that had struck and killed Loveless.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 41 year old Jason Dufton of Hancock, was sentenced to 7 years in state prison, and 15 years of post-release supervision for his conviction of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in Delaware County Court Tuesday. Dufton engaged in at least 2 sexual acts with a 10-year-old female child, in the Town of Hancock, he was also ordered to submit a DNA sample to the State DNA databank, he must register as a sex offender after he is released from prison.

The SUNY Oneonta Alumni Association will host the annual Alumni Weekend Today through Sunday, there will be awards ceremonies for the Athletic Hall of Fame, Alumni of Distinction, and the Alumni Association Annual Award winners.
The State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that beginning Monday, the on and off ramps at Exit 5 of Northbound I-81 and U.S. 11 will be closed for approximately one week to facilitate a bridge replacement project in the Town of Dickinson. Signed detours will be in place during the ramp closures. Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.

Saturday is the annual Get Outdoors & Get Together Day with State DEC at Rogers Center in Sherburne. The free event features fishing, kayak and canoe demonstrations. Saturday is also the date for the 2nd annual Shredding Event at Rogers Center, where people can bring unwanted old paper documents and shred them for free in the Rogers Center parking lot from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, for more information go to FriendsofRogers.org.

State Assembly & Senate ended their 2022 sessions Saturday to take up remaining bills. Lawmakers passed the Green CHIPS bill, which would incentivize semiconductor manufacturers to build new factories in New York State and Alyssa's law, which would require school district safety teams to consider the installation of a panic alarm system to silently alert law enforcement in the event of a life threatening or emergency situation. Alyssa's Law now heads to the governor's desk.
Binghamton Police are investigating the report of a body found in a creek by a passerby Thursday Morning near Bayless Avenue. 64 year old Debra Scott of Johnson City was found in the creek by the town & city Binghamton lines, An autopsy was conducted and the cause of death has not yet been determined.
State Police are reminding motorists to follow New York's "Move Over Law" Following an accident on I-81 Sunday. Police said that a Trooper had pulled over to the side of the highway to remove debris in the road, when the patrol car was hit from behind. There were no injuries, the Patrol vehicle was destroyed.
A 6th meeting of the Norwich Downtown Revitalization Initiative Local Planning Committee will be held on Tuesday, June 14th at 3:00 PM in person in the Community Room of Commerce Chenango at 15 South Broad Street, Norwich. FOX 40 & MY 8 in Binghamton will again be offered by Spectrum Cable, after it was announced that Northwest Broadcasting reached an agreement with Charter Communications, the parent company of Spectrum Cable. Several Northwest owned TV stations have been off the Spectrum line-up since February in the Binghamton & Syracuse markets, as well as stations in Arizona, California, Idaho & Washington. Spectrum officials said that the affected stations should return to their line-up today.

The case of 59-year-old Perry Webb of New Lisbon will head for Grand Jury action, following last night's court action in Town Of Hartwick court. Webb is charged with 2nd degree murder for the death last Friday night of Arthur Bellinger, at 393 Wheat Road in New Lisbon, and the beating of another man on the same evening. Webb continues to be held at the Otsego county jail without bail.
State Police are continuing with their “Speed Week” enforcement details through Tuesday. During "Speed Week", Troopers will be using both marked & Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement vehicles as part of the operation, the unmarked vehicles allow Troopers to blend in & still identify motorists who are violating laws. Speeding is a contributing factor in nearly 1/3rd of all fatal crashes, with more than 42,000 people killed each year nationwide, while hundreds of thousands are seriously injured. Troopers will also be watching for distracted or impaired drivers, vehicle occupants who are not properly buckled up, and drivers that are violating New York’s Move Over law, during the current enforcement.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a lead that was called in Thursday of a suspicious vehicle parked on Zion Hill Road near the Steam Mill State Forest in Masonville. Arthur Gehr’s Chevy Silverado pick-up truck was located parked on the side of the roadway locked. Gehr was not located anywhere near or around the vehicle. State Police & Deposit Police were called in to assist, State Police are conducting the current investigation & search effort in Delaware County. Gehr is 61 years of age and was last seen on Saturday June 4th at his residence on Barton Ave in the Town of Union. He last spoke with his employer on Sunday afternoon. He suffers from depression and has medical conditions & he may be in the Deposit area. 5 People were arrested for drug trafficking by the Delhi Village Police Department. Officers executed a search warrant of a motor vehicle Wednesday; they seized 67 bags of heroin plus cash and hypodermic syringes. Police arrested 28-year-old Jason Arnold of Floral Park, & 36 year old Michelle Aloisi of Floral Park, for charged criminal possession of a controlled substance, obstructing governmental administration and endangering the welfare of a child. 3 local residents were arrested; 29-year-old Paul Fontana of Margaretville, 41-year-old George Robinson of Delhi, and 30-year-old Heather Countryman of Delhi faced lesser charges. Arnold and Aloisi were arraigned at the Delhi Town Court, and were sent to the Delaware County Jail on $50,000 cash bail.

State Police, Delaware County sheriff’s deputies & Walton Police responded on February 19th to a murder-suicide & arson at 294 John Lockwood Road in the Town of Walton. After the fire was extinguished, 2 sets of remains were removed; one was identified as 47 year old Debra Sundstrom of 1884 South River Road in Walton, from suicide by a gunshot to the head. On Friday, a 3rd set of human remains was located at 1884 South River Road, who was identified as 49 year old Randy Sundstrom, the husband of Debra Sundstrom, his death was ruled as a homicide, Randy Sundstrom’s death may have occurred during February of 2010. . The second set of human remains from the February 19th fire was identified as the homeowner-51 year old Dominick Bosco, the cause of his death is undetermined. Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Police at 561-7400. The investigation is continuing.
State Police investigated a 1-Car fatal motor vehicle accident on Afton Lake Road at around 2:20 AM Sunday. The investigation revealed that 22-year-old Ryan Lewis of Harpursville lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a curve; he struck a tree with the passenger side. 24 year old Joelyn Sines of Harpursville was a front seat passenger, she was pronounced dead at the scene, 22 year old Mitchell Birch of Afton and 22 year old Caleb Gregory of Afton, were both transported to Wilson hospital in Johnson City, Lewis has been charged with 2nd Vehicular Manslaughter and Driving While Intoxicated, he was transported to Wilson hospital, he faces action in Town of Afton Court at a later date. The investigation is continuing.

A Binghamton man was arrested Saturday on drug charges, after being pulled over for an inspection violation. 24-year-old Daniel Gregoris was charged with Criminal Possession of a Hallucinogenic Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and driving an Uninspected Motor Vehicle, he is accused of possessing several grams of Ecstasy and a small amount of Marijuana in the vehicle. Gregoris faces court action shortly.
Delaware county sheriff's department Investigators arrested 31 year old Richard Dostis, of Walton for failure to register his e-mail account information to law enforcement within 10 days, as required of a level 3 sex offender in new York. Dostis maintained at least 1 e-mail account, which he failed to register with authorities, he was charged with 1 count of Failure to Register and/or Verify an Address or Status Change, and he will be arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court at a later time.
The Delaware County Sheriffs Office responded to a one car motor vehicle accident Sunday on County Highway 22 / East Brook Road in the Town of Hamden. 52-year-old Anthony Triarsi of Yonkers left the roadway and struck a utility pole. Triarsi was not injured; he was issued a traffic summons for the unsafe tires.
