The case of 59-year-old Perry Webb of New Lisbon will head for Grand Jury action, following last night's court action in Town Of Hartwick court. Webb is charged with 2nd degree murder for the death last Friday night of Arthur Bellinger, at 393 Wheat Road in New Lisbon, and the beating of another man on the same evening. Webb continues to be held at the Otsego county jail without bail.
State Police are continuing with their “Speed Week” enforcement details through Tuesday. During "Speed Week", Troopers will be using both marked & Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement vehicles as part of the operation, the unmarked vehicles allow Troopers to blend in & still identify motorists who are violating laws. Speeding is a contributing factor in nearly 1/3rd of all fatal crashes, with more than 42,000 people killed each year nationwide, while hundreds of thousands are seriously injured. Troopers will also be watching for distracted or impaired drivers, vehicle occupants who are not properly buckled up, and drivers that are violating New York’s Move Over law, during the current enforcement.
The 1st Oneonta Pridefest will take place this Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in downtown Oneonta. Pridefest 2017 will begin with a rally at 10:00 AM Sunday in Muller Plaza, with speakers discussing issues facing the LGBT community, they will then march down South Main Street to Neahwa Park, where a variety of activities are planned. The Otego Parent Teacher organization will hold a Community Carnival tomorrow at the Otego Elementary School. The event will be the last school district event at the building, which is slated to close at the end of the school year, following the recent decision to close the building due to rising costs & diminished enrollment. The Otego community is urged to attend the event, which runs form 12:30 to 4:00 PM.
The 22nd Annual Gus Macker 3 on 3 basketball tournament will be held next month in Norwich, organizer Tom Revoir said that the deadline for siging up a team is approaching;

The Parade will form at the Greenlawn Elementary School at 10:00 A.M. on June 10th. Military veterans should report to the Greenlawn Cemetery not later than 10:00 AM, as services at the Cemetery will begin at 10:15 A.M. The Parade will start at 10:30 AM. Final Memorial Day Ceremonies with commence at the Village Green.

The Main Street Sidney Revitalization Project will be getting underway next week. Sidney Grants Administrator John Redente explains:

The Project first calls for new wider sidewalks, with benches, & new trees within rain gardens. Both lanes of Main Street will be open, all businesses will be open their normal hours. Work will begin near the Sidney Library & work down to the railroad tracks.
Animal Adventure in Harpursville announced that the "Giraffe Cam" will be back up & running, after world wide viewing online of April the Giraffe giving birth to Tajiri several weeks ago. Animal Adventure operator Jordan Patch said that Tajiri will definitely be there this summer & possibly beyond that:

Patch said that the Giraffe cam would run 6 days a week from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday through Friday on the Animal Adventure YouTube channel. Other cameras will be up around the park in the shortly.
The Sidney Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual dinner this evening. This year's "Citizen of the Years" will be honored, they are Paul Eaton and Carl Griffith, and The “Business of Years” is the Sidney Elks Club, who will host the Annual Dinner tonight, the doors open at 5:30, dinner is served at 6:30.
State DMV Officials announced that fake emails pretending to be from the department, and seeking the payment of fines, is a hoax. The DMV does not seek the payment of fines by Email, they suggest that you delete the email & never give out any financial information from unsolicited emails.
The Sidney Municipal Airport will host an Open House & Fly-In Breakfast this Sunday. The event runs from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Sunday. Plane rides & demonstrations & live music are also planned.
State Police arrested 58 year old Gasper Ciraolo of Bainbridge for Criminal Possession of Marihuana & traffic violations, after a traffic stop for a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker on County Road 39 in the Town of Bainbridge. The Trooper detected the odor of marihuana in the vehicle, a search found about 28 grams of marijuana. Ciraola was arraigned in the Town of Bainbridge Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $500 cash bail or $2,500 property bond. His next court date is on June 27, 2017.
Another American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held today in Norwich, at the offices of Commerce Chenango at 15 South Broad Street. The drive will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 PM, Parking is available in the city lot behind Hummel's, with access to the Commerce Chenango offices from that lot. On Saturday, the Gilbertsville Village Improvement Society will celebrate its 136th birthday with a Gilbert Block Party from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. There will be live music, a silent auction and a raffle. All proceeds will go to fund the restoration for the re-installation of the original Gilbert Block Victorian soda fountain at the Gilbertsville Value Way.
The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will hold a First Friday eat & greet business networking breakfast mixer this morning at the Tulip and Rose Café at 435 Main Street, in Franklin from 8:30 - 10 AM. Governor Cuomo announced a statewide crackdown on distracted driving as part of April’s National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Operation Hang Up targets drivers on electronic devices today through April 10th. Preliminary data indicates a 918 percent increase in tickets for texting while driving in New York State from 2011 to 2016. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nationwide in 2015, 3,477 people were killed in distracted driving crashes and an estimated 391,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers.
Binghamton Rumble Ponies president John Hughes gave a tour of the renovations at NYSEG Stadium today to local dignitaries & the media. Team Spokesman Ed Saunders said that fans will enjoy the upgrades around the ballpark:

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Ronald Boecke of davenport for 2 counts of Failure to Register an E-mail and/or Internet address, as required by the Sex Offender Registration Act. Boecke was arrested at the Delaware County Correctional Facility where he was being held on a Probation Violation charge, he was arraigned on the latest charge & was sent back to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond pending future court action.
The Village of Sidney announced today that Keith Clark Park will be closed until further notice, as a safety precaution. The Susquehanna River is expected to crest Friday, Those who live near the River, or any other waterways in the region can check river levels & predictions at wcdoonline.com, and click on the river levels icon.

The arrest occurred after troopers investigated a crime in the Town of Triangle, where Shultz is accused of having sexual contact with the victim by forcible compulsion. Shultz was arraigned in the Town of Triangle Court and was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 1-car roll-over accident Monday evening on County Highway 14 in the Town of Meredith. 18 year old Dylan Cumpston of Delhi escaped the vehicle, he was transported to O’Connor Hospital in Delhi where he was treated & released. Deputies issued Cumpston was charged with failure to keep right and unlawful possession of marihuana, he will appear in the Town of Meredith Court at a later date to answer the charges.

5 people were arrested Friday on drug charges, after Norwich police, with help from the Chenango & Delaware County Sheriff’s department, executed a “no knock’ search warrant at a suspected “One Pot Meth” operation on Eaton Avenue in Norwich. Arrested were 23 year old Bradley Bishop, of Norwich, 37 year old Nathan Diamond of Norwich, and 42 year old Michael Hackett of Norwich in connection of the alleged manufacturing of Methamphetamines at that location, Police also charged 45-year-old Heather Angelino & 40-year-old Neil Graef of Norwich, for loitering. Bishop, Diamond and Hackett were arraigned in Norwich City Court & all were remanded to the Chenango County Jail, Angelino and Graef were both released on appearance tickets.
New York state will have new rules in effect March 1st, that will require financial institutions to create & maintain cyber-security programs in order to prevent illegal access to sensitive personal records of their customers from hackers. Most banks already have programs in effect, but the new rule makes in mandatory instead of optional.
The Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation announced that they are selling a plastic card version of their "Empire Pass" for state parks & recreation areas. The cards will cost $80; it streamlines the process by allowing a family to enter using one card only, instead of having decals permanently affixed on multiple vehicles within the same family, at a cost of $65 per decal.
Governor Cuomo announced that 12 Million dollars would be added to the Energy Affordability Policy, to provide 1.7 million low-income residents with help on energy costs. The change limits energy costs for low income New Yorkers to no more than 6% of the household income on energy, about half of the state's average household average.
State Budget hearings wrapped up Friday in Albany, as lawmakers look towards a final plan to submit to the Governor in about 6 weeks, assemblyman Pete Lopez comments:

Lawmakers are on a break until February 28th, they will then be working on the 152.3 Billion dollar Budget proposal submitted by Governor Cuomo in January, they hope to pass the budget on time by the state of the next fiscal year, on April 1st.
New York State spent about 8.1 Million dollars on "I Love New York" signs on highways all over the state, but the signs do not comply with federal regulations & may have to come down. State Police arrested 2 men on drug charges Friday after an attempted traffic stop, & an 8-mile chase from Kirkwood to Reynolds Road in Johnson City. During the pursuit, the operator was observed throwing a plastic bag containing 150 grams of cocaine. Police arrested 37-year-old Anthony Thompson of Johnson City, for Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and numerous Vehicle and Traffic Law. Also police arrested 29-year-old Tyrell Tomlinson of Tarboro, North Carolina for Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance. Both were arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.
31-year-old Bradley Miles of Binghamton was sentenced Friday to 30 years in state prison for his role in an August 2015 robbery that resulted in the death of Michael Thomas. Miles pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and second-degree attempted robbery, In August 2015, Miles and 38-year old Ariana Edwards robbed and stabbed Michael Thomas to death at their apartment at 11 Mather Street, & left his body there for 2 weeks, after luring him there for a drug deal.
New York state will have new rules in effect March 1st, that will require financial institutions to create & maintain cyber-security programs in order to prevent illegal access to sensitive personal records of their customers from hackers. Most banks already have programs in effect, but the new rule makes in mandatory instead of optional.
The Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation announced that they are selling a plastic card version of their "Empire Pass" for state parks & recreation areas. The cards will cost $80; it streamlines the process by allowing a family to enter using one card only, instead of having decals permanently affixed on multiple vehicles within the same family, at a cost of $65 per decal.
Governor Cuomo announced that 12 Million dollars would be added to the Energy Affordability Policy, to provide 1.7 million low-income residents with help on energy costs. The change limits energy costs for low income New Yorkers to no more than 6% of the household income on energy, about half of the state's average household average.
State Budget hearings wrapped up Friday in Albany, as lawmakers look towards a final plan to submit to the Governor in about 6 weeks, assemblyman Pete Lopez comments:

Lawmakers are on a break until February 28th, they will then be working on the 152.3 Billion dollar Budget proposal submitted by Governor Cuomo in January, they hope to pass the budget on time by the state of the next fiscal year, on April 1st.
