Binghamton Police Department arrested 53 year old Stanley DeGroat of Binghamton and 47 year old Brett White of Binghamton, following a shooting. DeGroat was charged with Attempted murder, Criminal possession of a weapon, Criminal contempt & 4 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, White was charged with 8 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, following an incident Sunday, where DeGroat fired a shot that grazed the victim's hand, he fled the scene on a bicycle, he was located & taken into custody. Search warrants were obtained & executed at 2 locations, Officers found several rifles, shotguns, and 2 illegally possessed handguns, which led to White's arrest. Both face court action shortly, more charges may be forthcoming.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office and the Broome County Health Department are taking action to treat and prevent the spread of a stomach bug-like illness that health experts believe to be norovirus at the Broome County Correctional Facility. On Monday, several incarcerated individuals reported symptoms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and headaches to medical staff at Correctional Facility. Over the next 24 hours, over 140 incarcerated individuals in multiple housing units were seen by medical staff for similar symptoms. The Norovirus is a highly contagious stomach illness effecting 19 to 21 million people in the United States each year and the leading cause of acute gastroenteritis in the country, The Correctional Facility is also taking additional precautions to limit exposure for staff and other incarcerated individuals within the facility, while performing deep and steady cleaning on any exposed surfaces or areas within the facility.

The 218th Session of the New York State Police Basic School is scheduled to graduate tomorrow at 11am. Graduation is taking place at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center. There are a total of 175 Troopers graduating, 23 are training in Troop C, 8 are local from the Troop C area. The new Troopers will be starting May 30 and will be with a Field Training Officer for 10 weeks before getting their official permanent station.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli’s Office of Unclaimed Funds reminds New Yorkers to check to see if the state has any of their money, from utility deposits, trust funds, old bank accounts, uncashed checks or unused gift cards. In January, the Office began mailing checks for newly reported accounts of $250 or less to eligible individuals, plus staff members from the State Comptroller’s office attend community events across the state to provide assistance with the search process. New Yorkers can also call 1-800-221-9311 or go to osc.ny.gov/unclaimed-funds.
NYSEG has filed a proposal with the state that could increase rates for customers, as the company claims that they are working to replace again infrastructure. The “Powering New York,” proposal will be reviewed by the state Department of Public Services. Also, Governor Hochul is demanding the Department of Public Service scrutinize the proposed rate hikes following complaints from consumers regarding escalating rates again this year.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli released his conclusion on this year's State Budget, which came to a total $254 billion, a 5.2% increase in spending. DiNapoli questioned the increase in spending when federal actions on funding to states could decrease revenues, and that could lead to a shortfall before the end of the fiscal year. Baldovin admitted to placing skimming devices and cameras at ATMs, the devices and cameras captured ATM customers’ account information and PIN numbers, the suspects created fraudulent debit cards from the captured information, which they used to withdraw currency over $450,000 from customers’ accounts in 2017 & 2018, 4 other suspects were already sentenced, the cases were investigated by the FBI, Homeland Security, State Police, the Endicott Police and various local police departments in area counties.

Mutual aid was received from fire fighters in West Laurens, South New Berlin, Gilbertsville, Pittsfield, Edmeston, Unadilla and Otego, the cause of the fire is under investigation, no injuries were reported.
