Clear Path for Veterans IS A NON TO FOR PROFIT ORGANIZATION helping out veterans with a variety of programs, Sean Sejersen is a Peer Mentor with Clear path For Veterans, and a veteran himself, he visited WCDO This morning to talk about the program:

A benefit will be held at Awestruck Ciders in Sidney Sunday from 12:00 to 5:00 PM, Sejersen will be there explaining their services & accepting donations, a portion of the proceeds from Awestruck will also be donated.

The Village of Sidney Police Department is requesting the public's assistance in identifying the individuals responsible for removing 3 nameplates on the Donor Wall at the Sidney Veteran's Memorial Park were stolen, Sidney Village Mayor Ray Baker said that a reward is being offered:

Delaware County has continued to transition operations of the senior meals program after Delaware Opportunities abruptly ceased operating on May 7th. Delaware County Office for the Aging has supported Senior meals both at congregate meal sites and through home meal deliveries. Congregate meal sites are now fully staffed and operational in Delhi, Hancock, Walton & Grand Gorge, the Margaretville senior meals dining center is open and located back in the Margaretville Methodist Church. The Sidney senior dining center has been temporarily relocated to the Sidney Community Cultural Center at 1 Bridge Street in Sidney, today that site will be operational to serve meals on site and prepare meals for home delivery. The County continues to work with the owners of the Sidney Senior Housing site to permanently relocate senior meals back to the senior nutrition site at 21 Liberty Street Sidney. Those interested in county employment, contact the Delaware County personnel office to inquire about these positions.

Governor Hochul's Office announced a 5 year deal has been reached on a contract for the CIVIL SERVICE EMPLOYEE ASSOCIATION, with more than 55,000 New York State Employees. The Contract Includes Yearly Salary Increases, Increases in Location Pay and Changes in Health Benefits, the Contract is Subject to Union Membership Ratification

The Delaware County Historical Association annual meeting will be held on Sunday, November 3rd at 1:00 PM in the large gallery at the Association’s facility in Delhi. The annual Awards of Merit this year will go to the Walton Theatre Preservation Association, the Delaware County Diggers, Eli Taylor of Middletown & Scott Payne of Deposit

State Police responded Thursday at about 11:45 AM to a motorcycle and a utility truck crash on Bert Washburn Road in the town of Otego. An investigation revealed that a utility truck was parked and unoccupied when 39 year old Robert Burns of Otego lost control of his motorcycle and slid into the front of the utility truck. He was thrown from the motorcycle and was located underneath the truck. Troopers, Otego EMS and Otego Fire rendered aid to Burns, but he was pronounced deceased on scene. The investigation is ongoing.

The 42nd Annual Algonquin Antique Auto show will be held on Sunday at General Clinton Park in Bainbridge, spokesman Ernie Thompson explains:

The annual Sidney Veterans Memorial Park fundraising Golf Tournament will be held Saturday at the Sidney Golf & Country Club, event organizer Tom Ruff explains:

The event serves as the main fundraiser for the Sidney Veterans Memorial Park, as they continue to make changes & upgrades at the park on River Street near State Route 8.

The Parade starts at 1:00 PM at the Sidney High School parking lot down West Main to Main Street & on to River Street & it ends at Keith Clark Park.

The Sidney Veteran's Memorial Park Association had a successful fundraising Golf Tournament this year, and more fundraisers may be announced, as upgrades are being performed at the Park in Sidney at River Street near State Route 8. Association president Doug Barnard told WCDO News that they need more members & volunteers:

The SUNY Oneonta Alumni Association will host the annual Alumni Weekend Today through Sunday, there will be awards ceremonies for the Athletic Hall of Fame, Alumni of Distinction, and the Alumni Association Annual Award winners.

State Police issued 13,688 tickets statewide during the Memorial Day Weekend traffic enforcement campaign. Troopers arrested 213 people for DWI and investigated 808 crashes, including 142 personal injury crashes and eight fatal crashes, which killed eight people. 965 people were ticketed in Troop C locally.

Money raised by the Golf Tournament will go for a variety of upgrades and improvements at the Sidney Veteran's Park.

Saturday is the annual Get Outdoors & Get Together Day with State DEC at Rogers Center in Sherburne. The free event features fishing, kayak and canoe demonstrations. Saturday is also the date for the 2nd annual Shredding Event at Rogers Center, where people can bring unwanted old paper documents and shred them for free in the Rogers Center parking lot from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, for more information go to FriendsofRogers.org.

The Sidney Municipal Airport Fly in Breakfast will be held Sunday at the Sidney Municipal Airport. The event is scheduled to run from 8:00 am to 12:00 Noon.

State Senator Fred Akshar announced that there will be a free "Shed the Meds" event, at the Oakdale mall in Johnson City Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Drop off point will be in the mall parking lot near the back entrance of the UHS Stay Healthy facility. Southern Tier Aids Program will also conduct a Narcan Training event, registration is requested at Akshar.nysenate.gov.

The Sidney Chamber of Commerce will hold their 2018 Annual Dinner tonight at the Sidney Elks Lodge. This year’s honoree for Citizen of the Years is Dr. Riaz Lone:

The 2016 General Clinton Canoe Regatta Pro race was won by Canadians Mathew Pellerin & Guillaume Blaise for the 2nd time in 3 years, WCDO’s Craig Stevens spoke with the winners after the race:

The Pair beat 2nd place finishers Matt Rudnitsky of Gilbertsville and 7-time Regatta Winner Steve Lajoie by 68 seconds. Local Paddlers Trevor Lefever & Ben Schlimmer of Oneonta took 3rd in the pro race.

There will be plenty of entertainment at General Clinton Park in Bainbridge this weekend as part of the annual canoe Regatta. Chairman John Harmon explains:

Harmon said that WBNG TV will be broadcasting their nightly news casts tonight from General Clinton Park, On Sunday, there will be a full line up of Musical acts participating in the Dundee Ales & Lagers Music festival, headlined by Whitney Point native Kobi Oakley.

State Police and local law enforcement statewide will be increasing patrols to combat drunk and impaired driving this Memorial Day weekend. Memorial Day is one of the busiest travel holidays of the year and police will be out in force to remove impaired and reckless drivers from our highways. The initiative starts today and runs until Monday. Drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols by State Police and local law enforcement agencies during this holiday weekend.

Some work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs. Travelers are reminded to call 511 or by access 511ny.org to check road conditions.

Governor Cuomo announced that road and bridge construction projects on State highways will be suspended from 6:00 AM Friday, to 6:00 AM Tuesday, May 31st, in order to accommodate travelers during the busy Memorial Day holiday weekend. Some work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs. AAA predicts that of the more than 38 million people traveling more than 50 miles from home this weekend, an estimated 34 million of them will be traveling by car. Travelers are reminded to check 511NY by calling 511 or by accessing 511ny.org to check road conditions.

The Village of Sidney announced that work would be performed on the Main Street Bridge today from 9:00 to 3:00 PM. The bridge will be open for 1 lane for traffic during the work.
