Privacy & Data Policy
Effective July 2026 · WCDO Broadcasting, Sidney, NY
This page explains what information this website collects, why, and what we do with it. The short version: we only collect what you type into our forms, we use it to run the station, and we don't sell it to anyone.
What we collect
We collect personal information only when you choose to give it to us through a form on this site:
Community Calendar submissions — the event details you want published, plus your name and email (and optionally an organizer name and phone). Your name, email, and any organizer phone number are for our staff only and are never shown publicly.
Photo, video, and audio submissions — the files you send, the story behind them, and your name, email, and optional phone number. Your contact information is for our staff only and is never shown publicly.
Advertising inquiries — your name, email, business name, phone, and comments, used to respond to your inquiry.
This website does not run third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking services, and does not use tracking cookies. The public site sets one small, temporary session cookie - used only to keep certain visual elements (such as which banner illustration you see) consistent while you browse. It contains no personal information, is never shared with anyone, is not used to track you across visits, and is automatically deleted when you close your browser. Our staff area separately sets its own session cookie for logged-in station staff.
How we use it
Submissions are reviewed by station staff before anything appears publicly. We use your contact information to review your submission, to reach you with questions about it, and for nothing else. When you submit photos, video, or audio, the permission checkbox on the form is the agreement that governs how we may publish and edit that material — on the air, on this website, and on station social media.
What we don't do
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We do not share it with third parties except as required by law. We do not use it for marketing lists.
How long we keep it
Published submissions (calendar listings, photos, and similar material) are retained as part of the station's content records. Contact information attached to submissions is kept alongside them so we know whose material it is and who gave permission for it. If you would like material you submitted taken down, or your contact information removed, email the station at wcdo@wcdofm.com or call (607) 563-3588 and we'll work with you.
News and editorial content
WCDO's news reporting, sports coverage, and other editorial content — on the air, on this website, and in our archives — is the station's journalistic record. It is not "personal information you provided," and it is not subject to the removal process above.
Consumer privacy laws, including California's, expressly do not restrict the collection, use, or retention of information for journalistic and noncommercial speech purposes, and nothing in this policy waives those protections. Requests to alter, unpublish, or erase news coverage are editorial matters, not privacy matters: they are decided by station management under our news judgment, not by this policy. Our general position is that accurate reporting of matters of public record stands. Where the record materially changes — for example, charges dismissed or an acquittal — we may, at our discretion, update a story to reflect that outcome rather than erase that it was reported.
Security
Staff-only information is kept in access-controlled systems available only to station personnel. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to safeguard what you give us, and we don't collect anything we don't need.
Children
Our forms are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date. Questions: wcdo@wcdofm.com or (607) 563-3588, WCDO Broadcasting, Sidney, NY.
