State Police arrested 20 year old Isaiah Owens-Chamorro of Oneonta, for Criminal Mischief, after Troopers were dispatched to Thetford’s Auto Shop on Keith Street in the town of Oneonta. Owens-Chamorro’s vehicle had been impounded & was being stored there, he requested permission to retrieve personal belongings, instead, he drove the vehicle from the property without paying the tow bill and damaged a gate while leaving the premises. A trooper observed the vehicle on State Route 23 and conducted a traffic stop, Owens-Chamorro was taken into custody, and the vehicle was towed back to Thetford’s. Owens-Chamorro was processed and issued an appearance ticket to the Oneonta Town Court on August 4th.

State Police arrested 24 year old Tyler Russell of Endwell, for 6 counts of Manslaughter and 1 count of Arson in connection with Monday's Fire at the Knight's Inn of Endwell, where 6 people died, 2 were hospitalized and over 70 were left homeless. Russell was processed and was turned over to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment. Additional information, including the identities of the victims, will be released at a later time.

Binghamton Police Department arrested 53 year old Stanley DeGroat of Binghamton and 47 year old Brett White of Binghamton, following a shooting. DeGroat was charged with Attempted murder, Criminal possession of a weapon, Criminal contempt & 4 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, White was charged with 8 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, following an incident Sunday, where DeGroat fired a shot that grazed the victim's hand, he fled the scene on a bicycle, he was located & taken into custody. Search warrants were obtained & executed at 2 locations, Officers found several rifles, shotguns, and 2 illegally possessed handguns, which led to White's arrest. Both face court action shortly, more charges may be forthcoming.

U.S. Senators Schumer and Gillibrand announced that over $21 Million dollars in federal funding has been allocated to upgrade airport facilities and equipment at 16 airports across the State. This federal funding was awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program, locally, the Greater Binghamton Airport will receive $181,174 to Reconstruct 51,000 square feet of existing terminal building and replaces the electrical system and associated lighting.

Chenango Memorial Hospital announced that area students will have an opportunity to explore careers in healthcare through their "Career Days camp", The program is a two-day, hands-on career exploration program for students entering grades 8 through 12. This year’s Career Days camp will take place Thursday, August 14 and Friday, August 15. The program is free of charge, but space is limited. Interested students must submit an application and a short essay by Friday, July 18 to be considered. For more information or to request an application, call (607) 337-4151.
NYSEG has filed a proposal with the state that could increase rates for customers, as the company claims that they are working to replace again infrastructure. The “Powering New York,” proposal will be reviewed by the state Department of Public Services. On July 3rd, Norwich Police Department received an emergency call about a Burglary in progress on Westcott Street in the City of Norwich. Officers responded and took 26 year old Adam Ferguson of Norwich into custody, he was charged with 2nd degree Burglary, Criminal Mischief & Criminal Trespass. Police reported that the woman called & said that an unknown male was climbing a ladder from her backyard and was trying to enter her 3rd floor apartment & tried to force open a door & enter. Officers found Ferguson still on the ladder. Norwich Police Chief Reuben Roach stated that Ferguson is on Parole for felony assault on a police officer in 2020, he was remanded to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office on $25,000 bail.

21 year old Leyska Rivera-Mateo of Binghamton was found guilty of 2nd degree Assault and Unlawful Imprisonment by a Broome County Jury yesterday in Broome County Court. Rivera-Mateo went to 404 McKinley Ave in the Village of Endicott on July 23, 2023, where she attacked a female victim, the victim sustained multiple fractures to her jaw. Rivera-Mateo is set to return to court for sentencing on August 8, where she is facing between 2 to 7 years in New York State Prison.
