Governor Kathy Hochul announced enhanced security measures are being taken this week by state agencies ahead of New Year's Eve. State Police will be at maximum staffing through the New Year’s holiday and there will be an increased presence of Troopers at critical infrastructure and transportation facilities statewide. State Police will monitor all mass gatherings and share intelligence with other law enforcement agencies to keep New Yorkers safe. Troopers will also be highly visible on interstates and state highways as part of a dedicated holiday traffic enforcement initiative targeting aggressive and impaired drivers.
The State Department of Health encourages New Yorkers to get the flu vaccine following an increase in influenza cases and hospitalizations in New York State. During the week ending on December 21, there was an 86 percent increase in lab-confirmed influenza cases, and 648 hospitalized influenza cases were reported to the Department, a 57 percent increase from the 414 hospitalizations reported the week prior, the sixth consecutive week of increases. Current influenza information is available at nyshc.health.ny.gov.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies observed a vehicle speeding recently at 85-mph in the 40mph zone, while road conditions were poor and snowplows were out clearing snow. Upon conducting a traffic stop, Deputies identified the driver as 21-year-old Scott Barnhart of Walton, he was charged with one count of Reckless driving, speeding and other lesser charges, Barnhart was released and was directed to appear in the Town Davenport Court at a later date.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 59 year old Robert Solberg of Milford Saturday, for Criminal Contempt. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested Solberg following an investigation into a violation of a temporary order of protection and a trespassing complaint, where he was found to have entered the residence of the protected party, he was turned over to the Correctional Facility to await arraignment. State Police and the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32 year old Carol Bishop & 34 year old Timothy Bishop of Laurens following an investigation into an animal cruelty complaint. At the conclusion of the investigation, both were charged with 14 counts each for torturing or Injuring Animals/Failure to Provide Sustenance, they were processed & released on appearance tickets for the Town of Laurens Court at a later date.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old William Killenberger of East Worcester for Criminal Mischief, Aggravated Harassment, Endangering the welfare of a child & resisting Arrest following an investigation into a domestic dispute in East Worcester. Killenberger is accused of damaging property during the course of the dispute and then fled the scene prior to law enforcement's arrival. An arrest warrant was applied for and he was located, While attempting to take the suspect into custody, he began fighting with Deputies and was subsequently taken into custody, he was processed and later turned over to the Otsego County Jail for arraignment.
New York state government agencies will have to conduct reviews and publish reports that detail how they’re using artificial intelligence software, under a new law signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul. The law requires state agencies to perform assessments of any software that uses algorithms or AI techniques, and then submit those reviews to the governor and top legislative leaders along with posting them online. It also bars the use of AI in certain situations, such as an automated decision on whether someone receives unemployment benefits or child care assistance, unless the system is being consistently monitored by a human.
New York Attorney General Letitia James is investigating the death of an inmate Robert Brooks at the Marcy Correctional Facility. Body cam footage shows Brooks was assaulted by multiple State Corrections Officers within the Infirmary Building at the Marcy Correctional Facility, Brooks was transported by ambulance to Wynn Hospital on Dec. 10, where he was pronounced dead, a dozen corrections officers and a nurse are under investigation for their alleged involvement in the death. An autopsy of Brooks was performed by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office on December 11.

State Police responded responded Friday to State Route 34 in the town of Barton for a head-on collision with injuries. A preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that a Toyota Highlander driven by 42 year old Janesa Lorenzo of the Bronx crossed into the opposite lane of travel and struck a Chevy Silverado pick-up truck head-on, driven by 68 year old Gary Sinsabaugh of Athens, Pennsylvania Sinsabaugh was pronounced dead at the scene. Janesa Lorenzo was transported to Packer in critical condition. Front Seat passenger, 56-year-old Delroy Christie from the Bronx was taken to Packer Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Rear seat passenger, 41 year old Carlos Lorenzo from the Bronx, was pronounced deceased on scene, another Rear seat passenger was 38 year old Sabrina Surita of New Jersey succumbed to her injuries at Packer Hospital. The investigation is on-going.
41 year old William Sabines of McDonough was sentenced to 8 years in prison last week, in connection with the death of Jesse Donlin in 2019. Sabines admitted to causing the death of Donlin and attempting to conceal his crimes, Sabines pleaded guilty in October to 1st-degree manslaughter and concealment of a human corpse in connection with Donlin’s death.
The State Department of Labor released local unemployment rates for November, The State’s unemployment rate held constant at 4.4% in November, locally, Chenango Country reported 3% unemployment, Delaware Country registered 3.4% and Otsego County had 3.3% unemployment in November.
Delaware Opportunities and the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce provided Christmas gifts to Delaware County children in need this month, Over 800 children from nearly 300 families benefited from this collaborative effort this year.
The Chenango Arts Council has been awarded at $40,000 Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts. The State Council has awarded $82 million this year to 509 artists and 1,497 organizations across the state.

Otsego County District Attorney's Office announced the sentencing of Jamesan Conville of Pennsylvania. Conville was charged with reckless endangerment for driving off with an Otsego County Deputy partially inside of his car and dragged the deputy 300 feet. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on I-88 in the Town of Milford after Conville was clocked at about 100 miles an hour. Conville is expected to serve between 1 to 4 years in state prison.
State Police reported that a small Beechcraft aircraft made an emergency landing on the State Thruway in the city of Albany Friday afternoon. The pilot was 19 year old Logan Steed of South Carolina, he told police that he realized he wouldn’t make the Albany Airport runway due to mechanical issues and instead decided to land on the Thruway. Steed & his 2 passengers were not injured, they were heading to Vermont, State Police and the FAA continue to investigate the incident.
Friends of Recovery Dedicated to Others celebrated the re-opening of its new recovery center, “The Turning Point of Delaware County” on Friday. The new facility provides a new and improved space for people struggling with substance abuse and addiction. The building additionally has a private entrance to keep confidentiality for patients going to the downtown Delhi location.

The Norwich Police Department concluded an investigation into the sale of narcotics yesterday, they arrested 59 year old John Williams of Edmeston on 3 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Williams is accused of possessing Methamphetamine, Crack Cocaine & Fentanyl, plus cash from suspected drug sales, Williams was arraigned at Chenango County Court and is being held wihout Bail, pending further court appearances.
Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 57 year old David Zimmer of Whitney Point following a high speed chase from Binghamton, onto I-88 into the Town of Fenton. on Tuesday,, a traffic stop was attempted on Zimmer, who's vehicle matched the description from an incident in Johnson city earlier. Zimmer was eventually stopped when his vehicle became disabled from a spike strip deployed by deputies & State Troopers. Zimmer faces 2 felony charges, 4 misdemeanors and 31 traffic violations following the high-speed pursuit, he was taken into custody, K9 units found cocaine in Zimmer's Vehicle, he was arraigned at & remains in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

The Otsego County Solid Waste Department has invited local school district to once again participate in the annual Plastic Film Recycling Challenge, starting November 15th to next April. Kyle King of the Solid Waste Department explains:

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that the District Attorney’s Office will no longer participate in the Delaware County Drug Court Program. Smith stated that the motivation behind the creation of Drug Court was noble, to help low level, non-violent, drug users obtain the treatment they needed, but the State’s Bail Reform and Discovery Reform, has led to the portion of the population the program was meant to help, are no longer entering the criminal justice system. WCDO News will interview Smith for more on this story next week.
State Police issued a total of 9,984 tickets statewide during the annual DWI Halloween Enforcement campaign which started on Thursday, October 31, 2024, and continued through Sunday, November 3, 2024. State Police utilized sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and ticketed distracted drivers who used handheld electronic devices. Troopers arrested 176 people for DWI and investigated 964 accidents, which resulted in three fatalities. Troopers issued almost 3600 tickets for speeding, Troop C had 678 total tickets during the initiative.
Binghamton Police responded to the report Thursday morning of an bomb threat at the State Office Building, at the 17th floor Attorney General’s office. A K9 Unit along with the Endicott Police Bomb Squad searched the office and did not find a bomb. The building has reopened, the investigation is continuing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Binghamton Police Detectives at 607-772-7080.
A Veterans Day Ceremony sponsored by the Gilbertsville Legion Auxiliary will be held on Sunday, the ceremony begins at 2:00 PM at the Grange Hall in Gilbertsville, it is open to the public.
The “Faces of Franklin" Exhibit of painted works by Bruce Goddard will be held Sunday at the Good Taste Epicurean Market at 438 Main Street in Franklin, The exhibit will be open Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest 31 year old inmate Rafael Frias for attempted assault. On October 15th, Investigators with the Delaware County Sheriffs Office received a complaint from the Correctional Facility of an assault between 2 inmates, they arrested Frias, he was arraigned at the Delaware County Centralized Arraignment Court, and was remanded back to the custody of Correctional Facility on other unrelated charges.
The State DEC is investigating the possibility of White Tail Deer in New York State possibly suffering from Chronic Wasting disease, after 1 deer in Herkimer County tested positive for the fatal disease last month. The DEC Statement said that the disease is always fatal, and can spread through certain Deer & Moose populations, they will continue to monitor as hunting season approaches.
State Police at Troop C announced that 42 people were charged with DWI in their coverage area from October 15th to the 30th. In 1 of the cases, a passenger in one of the stopped vehicles is also facing drug charges.
Delaware County officials remind area residents that the burn ban is still in effect until further notice, the dry ground & low water levels could be conducive to rapidly spreading wild fire, Delaware County is still one of 15 counties under a state Drought watch.

The results are in for yesterday's Election day, in the U.S. Senate race for New York, Incumbent Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand wins easily, in the U.S. House New York District 19, Josh Riley appears to have won a tight race over Marc Molinaro, in the State Senate District 51 race, Republican Incumbent Peter Oberacker wins by about 20% over Democrat Michele Frazier, in the local State Assembly Races, in the 121 District, Joe Angelino received double the vote over Vicki Davis, in the State Assembly 102nd District, Incumbent Republican Chris Tague wins by a substantial margin over Janet Tweed, and in the 122nd District, Brian Miller wins by a large margin over Democrat Adrienne Martini. in the Chenango County Court race, Republican Diane DeStefano wins easily over Democrat Lisa Natoli, and New Yorkers easily passed the STATE PROPOSITION to add an amendment to protect against unequal treatment.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 3 people after a 3-month investigation into fraud, forgery and identity theft. In August, Deputies received a complaint in regard to stolen funds from multiple accounts, multiple unknown charges and new accounts being opened without consent. Deputies, Sidney Police & State Police and the Delaware County District Attorney's Office arrested 44 year old Lori Brooks of Sidney, 27 year old Joshua Hunt of Unadilla & 37 year old Matthew Walsh of Sidney on a variety of charges including Grand Larceny, Conspiracy, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument & criminal possession of stolen property, Brooks was issued an appearance ticket and turned over to State Police for an outstanding warrant & was then turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment. Hunt was being held at the Otsego County Jail on an unrelated charge, he was processed & was brought back to the Otsego County Jail, Walsh was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Arraignment, he will appear at the Village of Sidney Court at a later date, the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible.
A Delaware County Correction Officer discovered an incarcerated individual unresponsive in a cell Tuesday, personnel began conducting lifesaving measures, and emergency medical services were called. Following extensive efforts, lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and the incarcerated individual was pronounced dead at the Delaware County Corrections Facility by a Delaware County Medical Examiner. The case was referred to the Office of the New York State Attorney General and the New York State Commission of Correction for external review.

The Sidney Elks Lodge will be hosting a Veterans Resource Fair Wednesday from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the lodge on River Street. There will be a free lunch, free haircuts & a variety of services available to area Veterans such as Blood Pressure screenings, and representatives from Medicare, The VA of Albany, The Tri-County Veterans Services as well as financial experts. Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest 31 year old inmate Rafael Frias for attempted assault. On October 15th, Investigators with the Delaware County Sheriffs Office received a complaint from the Correctional Facility of an assault between 2 inmates, they arrested Frias, he was arraigned at the Delaware County Centralized Arraignment Court, and was remanded back to the custody of Correctional Facility on other unrelated charges.
The State DEC is investigating the possibility of White Tail Deer in New York State possibly suffering from Chronic Wasting disease, after 1 deer in Herkimer County tested positive for the fatal disease last month. The DEC Statement said that the disease is always fatal, and can spread through certain Deer & Moose populations, they will continue to monitor as hunting season approaches.
State Police at Troop C announced that 42 people were charged with DWI in their coverage area from October 15th to the 30th. In 1 of the cases, a passenger in one of the stopped vehicles is also facing drug charges.

The results are in for yesterday's Election day, in the U.S. Senate race for New York, Incumbent Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand wins easily, in the U.S. House New York District 19, Josh Riley appears to have won a tight race over Marc Molinaro, in the State Senate District 51 race, Republican Incumbent Peter Oberacker wins by about 20% over Democrat Michele Frazier, in the local State Assembly Races, in the 121 District, Joe Angelino received double the vote over Vicki Davis, in the State Assembly 102nd District, Incumbent Republican Chris Tague wins by a substantial margin over Janet Tweed, and in the 122nd District, Brian Miller wins by a large margin over Democrat Adrienne Martini. in the Chenango County Court race, Republican Diane DeStefano wins easily over Democrat Lisa Natoli, and New Yorkers easily passed the STATE PROPOSITION to add an amendment to protect against unequal treatment.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 3 people after a 3-month investigation into fraud, forgery and identity theft. In August, Deputies received a complaint in regard to stolen funds from multiple accounts, multiple unknown charges and new accounts being opened without consent. Deputies, Sidney Police & State Police and the Delaware County District Attorney's Office arrested 44 year old Lori Brooks of Sidney, 27 year old Joshua Hunt of Unadilla & 37 year old Matthew Walsh of Sidney on a variety of charges including Grand Larceny, Conspiracy, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument & criminal possession of stolen property, Brooks was issued an appearance ticket and turned over to State Police for an outstanding warrant & was then turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment. Hunt was being held at the Otsego County Jail on an unrelated charge, he was processed & was brought back to the Otsego County Jail, Walsh was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Arraignment, he will appear at the Village of Sidney Court at a later date, the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible.
A Delaware County Correction Officer discovered an incarcerated individual unresponsive in a cell Tuesday, personnel began conducting lifesaving measures, and emergency medical services were called. Following extensive efforts, lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and the incarcerated individual was pronounced dead at the Delaware County Corrections Facility by a Delaware County Medical Examiner. The case was referred to the Office of the New York State Attorney General and the New York State Commission of Correction for external review.

State Police responded at about 6:45 Tuesday Morning to a fatal crash on County Highway 29 in the town of Harpersfield. The operator of the vehicle was traveling westbound when for an unknown reason left the roadway and struck a tree head on. The vehicle then became engulfed in flames. State police stated that The operator and only occupant did not survive, he has been identified as 25 year old Cameron Gaffi, of Franklin, New Jersey.
State Police responded to a single vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on State Highway 23 in the town of Morris. An investigation at the scene determined that the operator of the vehicle, 65 year old Michael Welsh of Cooperstown attempted to avoid a deer and went off the roadway, crashing into a fence post then went into a ditch, Welsh did not survive, his passenger 74 year old Margaret Welsh of Cooperstown was transported to Bassett Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
45 year old Andre Gilliam of the Town of Chenango was found guilty by a Broome County Jury for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & criminally using drug paraphenalia. Gilliam faces up to 8 years in State Prison followed by 3 years of post-release supervision at sentencing. On November 7, 2023, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit executed a narcotics search warrant at 174 ½ Castle Creek Road, they seized fentanyl, a cutting agent, a digital scale and nearly $4000 in cash from suspected drug sales.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28 year old Jacob Bassett of Morris following an investigation into a series of sexual assaults. An investigation revealed that on several different occasions in multiple locations in Otsego County, Bassett initiated several forms of sexual contact with a victim beginning when the victim was under the age of seventeen. Bassett was charged with 3 counts of 1st degree Rape, 2 counts of 3rd degree Rape, Criminal Sexual Act and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, he was remanded to the Otsego County Jail to await arraignment, the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office, recommended bail of $15,000 cash, $15,000 credit card and $150,000 bond, An order of protection was requested to be issued for the victim.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Division and U.S. Marshals located a 17-year-old female of Binghamton, who was wanted for Attempted Murder in relation to a recent shooting in the City of Binghamton. The juvenile fugitive was tracked to locations on Floral Ave. and Chelsea Square in the City of Binghamton, The Southern Tier SWAT team was deployed, executing a search warrant & they took the juvenile into custody, she was turned over to the City of Binghamton Police to be processed on the Attempted Murder charge, she will be arraigned and turned over to the custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that $2.3 billion in tax relief will go to nearly 3 million New Yorkers under the State’s School Tax Relief program. More than 2 million New Yorkers have already received their STAR tax relief and nearly 1 million more will receive their benefits in the coming weeks. The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in New York State decreased over the month by 8,100, or 0.1%, to 8,393,400 in August 2024. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.3% to 4.4% in August, the statewide labor force participation rate held constant at 61.3% in August.
Oneonta City Officials announced that On Sunday, beginning at approximately 8:00 am and continuing until approximately 4:00 pm, NYSEG crews will be shutting off electrical service to businesses and apartments on Main Street, Water Street, and Market Street. A social Media Threat against the Sidney & Walton Central School District was posted on Instagram and Facebook, Sidney Superintendent Eben Bullock told WCDO News that 4 were quickly identified, placed into a safe space & their parents were contacted, they also coordinated with the Sidney Police Department. Sidney Police stated that there was no credible information or evidence to support the threat being real & they remained at the school until dismissal, they are back at the Sidney District again today. Sidney Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 607- 561-2301.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 29 year old Antonio Almovdovar of Oneonta on multiple charges for Assaulting and throwing feces on Correction Officers. Almovdovar was charged with Assault, Aggravated Harassment of an Employee by an Inmate, on September 17th Almovdovar ignored lawful commands by corrections officers to cease his actions, he became combative and during a struggle, a corrections officer sustained an injury that required medical treatment at Bassett Hospital, the following morning, he began to again become disorderly and proceeded to throw bodily fluids on to another corrections officer, After consulting with the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office, a bail recommendation of $10,000 cash, $10,000 credit card and $100,000 surety bond was requested.

Garnier was arraigned at Delhi Town Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional facility without bail.
A Delaware County Grand Jury returned a 4-count indictment against 41 year old Darcee Lewis of Oxford, for 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and 2 counts of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia. On August 14th, a search warrant was executed by the Village of Sidney Police Based on information provided by State Parole Officers, they located narcotics and drug paraphernalia, Lewis is accused of possessing methamphetamine, fentanyl with intent to sell, as well as scales, loaded needles, and packaging materials. Lewis was arraigned & was remanded on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
32 year old Evan Middleton of Johnson City, was sentenced today as a Second time Felony Offender to 12 years in State Prison followed by 3 years post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance On April 6, 2023, after the execution of a narcotics search warrant at Middleton's residence at 58 Massachusetts Ave in Johnson City, Middleton was found to be in possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine, with the intent to sell.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Whitney Bachanas of Milford woman for animal cruelty after Deputies responded to County Highway 35 in the Town of Milford for a welfare check. Bachanas was charged with Abandonment of Animals, Failure to provide proper sustenance, Deputies located several animals abandoned, malnourished and mistreated. 2 emaciated dogs in critical condition were transported to Cornell University animal hospital. A 3rd dog was located deceased as well as a turkey and a quail. 2 quail were rescued for foster and rehabilitation. The Susquehanna SPCA, Cornell University and Farm Friends Network assisted in this rescue and investigation. Bachanas was issued appearance tickets and is set to appear in court at a later date.

Bachanas was charged with Abandonment of Animals, Failure to provide proper sustenance, Deputies located several animals abandoned, malnourished and mistreated. 2 emaciated dogs in critical condition were transported to Cornell University animal hospital. A 3rd dog was located deceased as well as a turkey and a quail. 2 quail were rescued for foster and rehabilitation. The Susquehanna SPCA, Cornell University and Farm Friends Network assisted in this rescue and investigation. Bachanas was issued appearance tickets and is set to appear in court at a later date.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40 year old Paul Callahan of Greene for Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors and Attempted Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Callahan was arrested after an investigation determined he sent several nude photos of himself to a decoy 14-year-old male victim’s online account. Callahan was released on an appearance ticket for the above charges and is to appear in the Town of Greene Court at a later date.
41 year old James Fuller of Fulton, pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Attempted Burglary and was sentenced to 1.5 to 3 years in state prison. Fuller unlawfully entered a barn located on State Highway 10 in the Town of Harpersfield, with the intent to commit a crime, he was also charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, as a result of being found in possession of a bicycle. Fuller was also required to provide a sample of his DNA for inclusion in the State’s DNA Data Bank and to pay fines and surcharges. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Sheriff to begin serving his sentence.
The State Department of Transportation is advising motorists of the following overnight lane closures along Interstate 81 in the Town of Dickinson, Broome County, to facilitate pavement repairs. Beginning tonight at 8:00 PM, I-81 northbound will be reduced to two lanes of traffic between Exit 5 and the I- 88 interchange. All lanes are expected to reopen Thursday Morning. Also at 8:00 PM Thursday, I-81 southbound will be reduced to two lanes of traffic between Exit 5 and I-88 interchange, the lanes will re-open Friday Morning.

State Police & the Delaware County District Attorney’s office announced that a Delaware County Grand Jury has indicted 27 year old James Christ Jr. of Deposit for 2nd degree Murder, among other charges in connection with the death of a 3 year old child. The child’s mother, Marielys Ramos of Unadilla has been indicted on Reckless Endangerment and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both are currently at the Delaware County Correctional Facility, pending arraignment. State Police arrested Christ in May, after they were dispatched to Fair Street in Deposit for the report of an unresponsive child, it was determined that Christ recklessly caused the death of the child.
State Police responded Sunday to Route 17C in Barton for a NYSEG utility pole broke that was attached to power lines. Power lines and a portion of the pole fell onto Route 17C, 3 people were injured. Troopers determined that a live wire fell onto the middle of the roadway when several motorcycles were coming down the roadway. The wire struck the passenger on the back of 1 motorcycle, the bike then overturned. The 62-year-old male driver and a 63-year-old female both of Athens, Pennsylvania were transported by ambulance to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital. A 70-year-old male driver and a 79-year-old female passenger from Sayre, were on another motorcycle and in an attempt to avoid the bike in front of them, went off the roadway. The driver of that motorcycle was also transported to Packer Hospital.
State Police initiated a traffic stop on I-81 north in Cortlandville Sunday Night after observing a vehicle that did not have its rear taillights illuminated. After an investigation and a search of the vehicle, the Trooper located 110 bricks of heroin, Two containers of cannabis wax, cannabis & drug paraphernalia. Troopers arrested 25 year old Kenneth Williams of Syracuse, NY and 22 year old Kyrell Robinson of Syracuse, Both were charged with: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, both were processed and transported to the Cortland County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that 20 year old Joseph VanBlarcom of Margaretville was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury Thursday, for Aggravated Harassment as a Hate Crime, VanBlarcom is accused of driving in the Village of Fleischmanns on July 29, he threw objects out the window and swerved his vehicle at 3 Jewish men walking along Main Street, and for yelling bias obscenities regarding the men’s religion, he was released in his own recognizance & is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment in Delaware County Court on August 26th.
State Police at Troop C will be at the Spiedie Fest in Otsiningo Park. Troopers will have displays & demonstrations of their K9 unit, the Bomb Disposal Unit, drones, the Underwater Recovery Team, Collision Reconstruction Unit among many others. There is also a demonstration tentatively scheduled with the Special Operations Response Team and their Helicopter on Saturday, at noon and 2:00 pm, weather permitting. The Troop “C” Recruiter will also be there for those interested in signing up to take the State Police Exam.

Smallze was convicted of Burglary and Criminal Mischief, by a Broome County Jury in May. Smallze forcefully entered 75 Prospect Street in the City of Binghamton on January 22, 2023, where he assaulted the resident, caused property damage to the victim’s residence by hurling a brick through a window.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Stanley Kingston of Albany, following a traffic stop on July 26, in the Town of Oneonta. Kingston was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, DWI, with a previous conviction within 10 years, 2 counts of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, driving a vehicle without Ignition Interlock Device, among other charges, Kingston had a revoked license, he was released with appearance tickets for Oneonta Town court at a later date.

The Otsego County Office of Emergency Services announced that 29 year old Michael Bredin on the Town of Maryland, has been charged with 2nd degree Arson by the State Police & Otsego County District Attorney's Office. On March 31st, the Schenevus Fire Department, along with Oneonta City Firefighters, responded to a blaze at an apartment house on State Route 7, the fire was quickly knocked down, and investigators determined that the fire was deliberately set. Bredin was arraigned Friday & faces court action at a later date.
About 30 residents from Morris and surrounding towns met at the Morris Firehouse on May 23 for a follow-up to the news that Sidney Federal Credit Union intends to establish banking services in the Village of Morris. The meeting was organized by the Butternut Valley Alliance, whose task force began working to find an alternate bank when Community Bank, N.A. ended 167 years of banking services in Morris on January 19, Maggie Brenner of the Butternut Valley Alliance explains:

State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Otsego and Delaware Counties recently. 11 businesses were checked for compliance, with 1 person charged with Unlawful Sale of Alcohol to a Minor, after selling alcohol to person under the age of 21, at Betty Beavers Fuel Stop on County Road 48 in the town of Otego. The businesses that passed were in Oneonta, Laurens, Hartwick, Milford, Otego, & Davenport. During these investigations, businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth.
The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will be holding a Web Presence Seminar for Business owners and non-profit organization leaders to review their digital marketing efforts. The seminar will be held on June 4 & will be conducted by Sean Griffin of Cornerstone Services. State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Otsego and Delaware Counties recently. 11 businesses were checked for compliance, with 1 person charged with Unlawful Sale of Alcohol to a Minor, after selling alcohol to person under the age of 21, at Betty Beavers Fuel Stop on County Road 48 in the town of Otego. The businesses that passed were in Oneonta, Laurens, Hartwick, Milford, Otego, & Davenport. During these investigations, businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth.
The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will be holding a Web Presence Seminar for Business owners and non-profit organization leaders to review their digital marketing efforts. The seminar will be held on June 4 & will be conducted by Sean Griffin of Cornerstone Services. The free seminar will be held on June 4 in the meeting room at the Business Center at 5 ½ Main Street in Delhi, starting at 10:00 am. Attendance is limited and advance registration is required at DelawareCounty.org
The Sidney High School Flood Monitoring Team will be giving a special presentation for the public in the Smart Community Room at the Sidney Memorial Public Library Today at 6:00PM. Rich Townsend was a Science Teacher at Sidney at the start of the program in 2007, & is still guiding the program, he told WCDO about the presentation:
