A Delaware County Grand Jury returned a 9-count indictment against 24 year old Donovan Connelly of Walton, for 6 counts of Sexual Abuse, for the alleged sexual abuse of a 17 year female co-worker while working in a position of authority. Other counts charge Connelly with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, 2 counts of Stalking. Connelly was issued a criminal order of protection, which he violated, which led to a charge of Criminal Contempt. The investigation is continuing, anyone with additional information should contact the Walton Police Department at 607-865-5400.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli has completed a study of the $277 billion Enacted Budget for the current State Fiscal Year, which has an increase of 7% from the previous State Budget. DiNapoli's report stated the largest increases in spending have been in Medicaid and School Aid, other potential issues are the the retrenchment of federal support; persistent inflation and increasing local government fiscal needs, also the state took action to preserve healthcare coverage for over a million New Yorkers, but that still resulted in 450,000 New Yorkers losing eligibility. The state has significantly increased its reserve levels at approximately $15 billion.

In addition, there is the potential for visible smoke and hazy skies across the state and New Yorkers may see temporary spikes in smoke-related pollution. The advisory will be in effect until 11:59 pm. More information is available at airnow.gov

State Police arrested 3 people following a traffic stop in Broome County. Troopers were patrolling Johnson City & observed a vehicle commit Traffic Law violations. Troopers conducted a traffic stop on Prospect Street in the town of Dickinson. The operator was identified as 51 year old Gregory Jackson of Brooklyn. The passengers were 60 year old Sircurtis King of Binghamton & 38 year old Jhenna Wood of Binghamton. Troopers with the assistance of a State Police K9, located cocaine, fentanyl, a digital scale, packaging materials and a large amount of cash. Jackson, King and Wood were each charged with 4 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 2 counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia and all 3 were processed and were transported to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
The City of Oneonta announced that a contractor working for Firstlight Fiber will be installing new underground fiber cable on Ford Avenue between the intersection of Main St. and the Community Bank driveway entrance, starting at 7:00 AM until the Work is completed. The road will be closed to one lane of traffic with flaggers and temporary no parking will be implemented for both sides of the roadway throughout construction. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Jennifer Hewitt of Cooperstown following an investigation into a fraud complaint at 2 Delaware County banks. Deputies were dispatched on March 3rd to a fraud complaint, they learned that Hewitt cashed 2 separate checks at 2 different Delaware National Bank of Delhi locations totaling more than $14,000, she did not have the funds available to cover the checks. Deputies arrested Hewitt for 2 counts of Grand Larceny among other related charges, Hewitt was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Arraignment.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced monthly weekend office hours for pistol permit processing, as well as a new Firearm Safety Course. On Saturday, April 11th, the Identification/Pistol Permit Office will begin Monthly Weekend Office Hours from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM to process pistol permit applications, plus other business for community members who are unable to visit Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Community members are also invited to register for the first Sheriff's Office Firearm Safety Course provided by their Training Division, which will also take place on Saturday, April 11, Course space is limited, register at broomecountyny.gov.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 30 year old Nicholas Kahl of Middle Island following an investigation of a larceny complaint. On March 22nd, Deputies were dispatched to a complaint in Hamden, it was discovered that Kahl allegedly stole a tractor from a property without the owner’s consent. Deputies arrested Kahl for Grand Larceny, he was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Arraignment.

Justin Valk of Davenport was sentenced to 31 years to life in prison in Delaware County Court Wednesday, 25 years to life for 2nd degree Murder, which will run consecutive to the 6 years he was previously sentenced to for Burglary. Valk was also sentenced to 20 years for Assault, and 5 Years for a 2 counts Criminal Possession of a Controlled substance, both of those sentences will run concurrent to the murder sentence. Valk caused the death of his wife, Stephanie by injecting her with multiple doses of Methamphetamine and Fentanyl over a 24 hour period, the evidence was shown to a jury of footage shot by Valk, during a trial in January of his wife suffering from seizures and convulsions.

State Police arrested 62 year old Frank Kovacs of Laurens, on a warrant for 8 counts of Rape, 3 counts of Criminal Sex Act, 3 counts of Sexual Abuse, Investigators received information pertaining to the rape and sexual assault of a child in Saratoga County from 2008 until 2011 in Clifton Park. Kovacs was arrested at his place of employment in Oneonta, and was transported to State Police in Clifton Park for processing. He was then arraigned at the Clifton Park Town Court where he was remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail, a $250,000 bond, or a $500,000 partially secured bond. In June 2025, Kovacs was arrested by State Police for rape and sex abuse charges following a Otsego County grand jury indictment, this arrest is a continuation of that investigation. Kovacs is also mayor of the village of Laurens.

The Broome County Sheriff's office arrested 61 year old MD Omar Faruk and 39 year old Mohammad Rahman for Criminal Tax Fraud, Possession or Transport of Unstamped or Unlawfully Stamped Cigarettes following an investigation into the illegal sales of cigarettes, vapes and marijuana in the Town of Colesville. On February 12th, the Sheriff’s Office, the Special Investigations Unit Task Force & the Broome County Health Department conducted a flavored nicotine vape compliance check at the Empire Plaza gas station, a search warrant uncovered illicit flavored nicotine vapes, marijuana products, untaxed cigarettes and $18,346 in Cash. Faruk was released with an appearance ticket to the Town of Colesville Court, Rahman was turned over to U.S. Border Patrol, as he had failed to appear for immigration proceedings.

36 year old John Pierre Regazzi of Delhi pleaded guilty to Assault, Forcible Touching and Criminal Contempt in Delaware County Court Wednesday, where he appeared for his scheduled pre-trial hearings. A jury trial was scheduled to commence on February 9, but Regazzi decided to enter a guilty plea, he will be sentenced to 5 years in state prison, to be followed by 3 years of post-release supervision, he will also be required to register as a sex offender for at least 20 years upon his release from state prison, and there will be a final order of protection in favor of the female victim. After pleading guilty, Judge Rosa remanded Regazzi back to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending sentencing on April 1.

Chobani announced that they awarded $400,000 in grants to 40 nonprofit groups through the eighth annual Community Impact Fund. The grants will go to organizations in Central New York, Idaho, Philadelphia and Muskegon Michigan. Locally, the Afton Central Schools will use the funds to build a greenhouse for agricultural education and to supply fresh produce for the FFA Food Pantry. The Food Bank of Central New York will support its Senior Grocery Program, the Norwich City School District will expand its backpack program, the Oneonta Middle School will provide grocery gift cards to families throughout the year, and the Cooperstown Food Pantry will use its grant to offer year-round farmers market vouchers, SNAP matching and CSA shares from regional farms.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Jacob Roman of Walton with 2 counts of Grand Larceny, and 1 count of Burglary, On October 18th, Deputies were dispatched to Benton Avenue in the Village of Walton for a reported Burglary in Progress where they located, identified and arrested Roman. On November 21st, Deputies located and arrested Roman on new charges after it was alleged that he had taken the victim’s credit card and made numerous purchases on the card which amounted to over $1,500 without authorization. Roman was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Green was sentenced to a 19 year prison term, concurrent 3 and 5-year terms of post-release supervision, and a money judgment of over $185,000 of unrecovered proceeds from his drug trafficking. Co-conspirator Michael Jacobs of Endicott, was previously sentenced to 10 years and 10 months term of imprisonment & 5 years of post-release supervision.

21 year old Joziah Worthington was sentenced following his convictions after trial in Broome County Court, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd & 3rd Degree, to 9 years in a State Correctional Facility with 5 years of post-release supervision for 1 charge, and 7 years in prison with 3 years of post-release supervision for other charge, to run concurrently. Worthington was arrested by state Police in 2024 in Johnson City, for illegally possessing a firearm as well as a large capacity ammunition feeding device capable of accepting 31 rounds, loaded with 25 rounds, Worthington’s DNA being found on the firearm.
Chobani announced that at the East Park Bandstand in Norwich last Saturday, following the 30th annual Norwich Parade of Lights, More than 30 Chobani volunteers distributed 3,000 cases of Chobani products, to thank the community. Chobani will also participate in the annual tree-lighting ceremony at Hyde Park in New Berlin on December 6th, employees plan to give out over 200 cases of yogurt to local families.
NBT Bank presented the United Way of Mid Rural New York with a check for $190,000 to help fund programs that provide financial stability, education and health resources for individuals and families in Chenango, Delaware, Madison and Otsego counties. NBT Bank employees donated $95,000 to the United Way’s annual campaign through personal contributions, and the company matched that amount with an additional $95,000.

Broome County Sheriff's Office & area firefighters responded Friday to the report of a car crashing into a house in the Town of Union. Responding deputies found that the driver, an 82-year-old female, was attempting to back out of a residential driveway and mistakenly accelerated forward off the driveway and into the adjacent house, rupturing a natural gas line. NYSEG was alerted and the gas line was turned off, nearby residents were temporarily evacuated, The driver was transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center for minor injuries. No charges were filed.
Last week was Crash Responder Safety Week, and State Troopers joined the State DOT to focus on Move Over Law violations. Troopers from the Troop C Traffic Incident Management Unit teamed up with DOT crews on I-81 in Cortland County and I-88 in the town of Otego. On November 20th, Troopers issued 30 tickets on I-81 in Cortland County and 9 tickets on I-88 in the town of Otego, on November 21, Troopers issued 39 tickets on I-81 in Cortland County. New York State implemented the Move Over Law in 2010 to reduce crashes involving emergency responders stopped along the roadway. The law later expanded to include hazard vehicles, tow trucks, and highway workers. In 2023, the law expanded again, requiring drivers to slow down and move over for any vehicle stopped on the roadway.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute, in progress, in the Town of Harpersfield, Deputies arrested 35-year-old Michael Turim of Harpersfield, for Strangulation, Assault, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Mischief and Unlawful Imprisonment, Turim was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where he was held for arraignment.

Delaware County Historical Association will Unveil a Women's Suffrage Marker in Delhi on Saturday Morning at 11:15 am, adjacent to the Delaware National Bank on Delhi's Main Street. The ceremony will take place during Delhi's annual Harvest Festival on Courthouse Square. The marker recognizes the importance of this location in the local effort to allow women the legal right to vote in the early years of the last century.

State Police arrested 36 year old Nathanael Manwaring of Maine, for allegedly intentionally striking a victim with his pick-up truck, killing the victim. State Police responded Wednesday to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in a driveway on Lamb Road in the Town of Nanticoke. Manwaring is accused of intentionally striking 41 year old Rodney Clark of Binghamton, following a dispute. Clark was taken to Wilson Hospital by a private vehicle where he succumbed to his injuries. Manwaring has been charged with 2nd degree Murder, 1st degree Manslaughter, he was processed and transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for Arraignment.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 51 year old Thendara Hartwell of Plymouth for Making a Terroristic Threat and Falsely Reporting an Incident. On August 5th, the County's 911 Center received a call from Community Bank in Norwich stating that they received a bomb threat from an anonymous phone number. The Sheriff’s Office responded & evacuated multiple businesses, a State Police Explosives Detection Canine and bomb technician conducted a search of the entire premises and did not locate any signs of explosive devices & the businesses re-opened. After an investigation and execution of a search warrant, it was found that Hartwell made the threatening phone call from a blocked phone number and caused public alarm and inconvenience. Hartwell was taken into custody today & was arraigned & she was
remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $1,250 bail.

Deputies arrested Quackenbush following a report of a stolen vehicle, Deputies were able to locate the stolen vehicle in the City of Norwich, they initiated a traffic stop and Quackenbush failed to comply and led Deputies on a pursuit through the City and into the Town of New Berlin. Quackenbush stopped in South New Berlin where he was taken into custody, he was transported back to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office for processing and was arraigned & he was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 bail.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and State Police responded and secured the scene, a State Police Explosives Detection Canine conducted a thorough search of the entire premises and did not locate any signs of any explosive devices, it was determined that there was no threat to the public and the businesses were back open at approximately 4:00 pm. The investigation to who made the threat is still ongoing.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced over $20 million in awards for the Green Innovation Grant Program and the Wastewater Infrastructure Engineering Planning Grants. A Wastewater Infrastructure Engineering Planning Grant Award includes the City of Oneonta, where they will receive $100,000 to investigate sources of inflow and infiltration in the City’s sanitary sewer system to protect water quality in the Susquehanna River.
52 year-old Terrell Heyward was sentenced to 21 years to life in prison today in Broome County Court. On January 11th, Heyward shot 54 year-old Sarah Hauer in the back of the head at the Woodburn Court apartment building on Exchange Street. The District Attorney's Office contended that Heyward was frustrated that his girlfriend, who was a friend of Hauer’s, wouldn’t see him. When Hauer told Heyward that his girlfriend was unavailable, he shot Hauer and fled these, leaving her to die.
State Police are warning the public after recently receiving an increasing number of complaints from victims of computer and phone scams, including a victim that reported to Investigators in Sidney that they got a pop-up alert on their computer, it appeared to be from Apple, with a phone number to dial for help. When the victim called it, the scammer told the victim that their account was linked to child pornography, that the victim’s identity was compromised and that their personal information was on the dark web, the victim was told to call another number which was allegedly from the U.S Department of Treasury, the scammers sent a “courier” to the victim’s house to pick up payment to allegedly fix the problem. Police remind people to Never share personal information with someone that you don't know.

Haidar was charged with Predatory Sexual Assault, plus multiple counts of 1st degree & 3rd degree Rape, 1st & 3rd degree Criminal Sexual Act, Assault, Stalking, Labor Trafficking, unlawful inprisonment, Strangulation, Criminal possession of a weapon & Overdriving, torturing, failure to provide proper sustenance for animals. Investigators were contacted by victims who reported sustaining severe abuse for several years while living with Haidar, where they were forced to live at the residence and submit to extreme abuse which often resulted in serious physical injury. Haidar was taken in to custody without incident, a search warrant was executed & evidence was seized. The Susquehanna SPCA removed numerous animals. Haidar was processed and was lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Arraignment, the investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending. 35 year old Natasha Reed of Hamden was indicted on 2 counts by a Delaware County Grand Jury for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Reed allegedly possessed over 500 milligrams of cocaine, on November 26, 2024, Deputies conducted a traffic stop and found Reed to have a suspended license, officers seized cocaine and drug paraphernalia from the vehicle.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli’s Office of Unclaimed Funds reminds New Yorkers to check to see if the state has any of their money, from utility deposits, trust funds, old bank accounts, uncashed checks or unused gift cards. In January, the Office began mailing checks for newly reported accounts of $250 or less to eligible individuals, plus staff members from the State Comptroller’s office attend community events across the state to provide assistance with the search process. Chenango Memorial Hospital announced that area students will have an opportunity to explore careers in healthcare through their "Career Days camp", The program is a two-day, hands-on career exploration program for students entering grades 8 through 12. Broome County District Attorney F. Paul Battisti announced the allocation of $52,500 in funding to support enhanced summer traffic safety & community policing patrols throughout the County. The Chenango County Department of Public works will close County Road 39 between Old Gifford Road and State Route 206 in Bainbridge, starting Tuesday for the replacement of a large culvert. The road closure is expected to last 1 to 3 days, depending on weather conditions.

A search warrant was executed on April 4th, Banks was found to be in possession of images consistent with child sexual exploitation. During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that 38 year old Mark Banks of Nineveh sexually abused a dairy cow while employed at a farm in the town of Colesville. Banks was charged with Sexual Misconduct, both were issued appearance tickets to the Colesville Town Court on April 24th.

Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force arrested 57 year old Bruce Hines of the town of Union after they executed a search warrant Thursday, Hines resisted officers and had to be detained after a brief struggle. Officers confiscated Methamphetamine, Fentanyl, Digital Scales, Packaging Material and $304 in cash, Hines was charged with multiple Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and 2 Counts Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, plus Obstructing Governmental Administration & Resisting Arrest, he was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.
Utica University has announced its commencement speaker for the undergraduate ceremony in 2025 will be Hamdi Ulukaya, the founder and CEO of Chobani, Ulukaya will receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from Utica University, he emigrated from his native Turkey in 1994 to the US, he purchased a closed factory in Edmeston in 2007 with a small business loan, Chobani became he biggest seller of Greek Yogurt in the world by 2012. The undergraduate ceremony is set for May 9th at The Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

State Police responded late last night to a residence on Houck Road in the town of Masonville for a reported domestic dispute. 32 year old Drew Garnier of Masonville, was charged with 2nd degree Murder and 2 counts of attempted Murder. Garnier allegedly stabbed his pregnant wife, 29 year old Samantha Garnier & their 2 children. Troopers and Sheriff’s Deputies rendered aid to Samantha prior to EMT’s arrival, she was airlifted to Wilson Medical Center where she later succumbed to her injuries. 1 child was taken to Wilson Medical Center but later transferred to Upstate Medical Center. A second child was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center. Both children are expected to survive. Garnier was arrested on scene and taken to A.O Fox Hospital and upon release, he was processed at Troop C in Sidney & was transported to the Delaware Correctional Facility where he was remanded without bail.

State Police and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 2800 block of State Highway 268 in the town of Hancock for a report of a shooting Wednesday Morning. A 32-year-old man was shot in the upper arm and airlifted to Albany Medical Center, with a non-life-threatening injury. 60 year old Robert Trago Jr., of Hancock, was charged with Attempted Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, he was located just before 3:00 pm., in the Margaretville area and taken into custody. Trago Jr. was taken to Delhi where he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $100,000 cash, $200,000 credit, $400,000 bond.
The Delaware County Planning Board announced that they plan to develop a Strategic Comprehensive Plan, to guide future growth, development, and preservation in the County. Fisher Associates will lead the planning process and public engagement efforts. Public Input Sessions will be on Monday, September 16, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Hobart Community Center & Tuesday, September 17 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Walton Fire Hall, on West Street. The 1st accident occurred when 28 year old Singh Simran of Calgary, Alberta went off the roadway into the grassy median & attempted to bring the tractor trailer back into the roadway but overturned, blocking both lanes, 19 year old Danial Kirmani struck the cab with his car, 2nd tractor trailer operated by 67 year old Mykola Khudyk of Quebec collided with the trailer portion of the first tractor trailer, Kirmani was transported to Wilson Hospital for minor injuries. in the 2nd accident, in the town of Marathon, 31 year old Nicholas Espino of Bronx, failed to observe another tractor trailer slowing down, driven by 34 year old Gregory Wilson of Mexicao New York, & rear ended it, No injuries were reported. The portion of I-81 from Marathon to Lisle was closed for several hours due to the dense fog, clean up & the investigation of both crashes, The highway was reopened at 8:30 Wednesday Morning.

Gardepe has been charged with 1st degree Rape, Criminal Sexual Act, Kidnapping, Sexual Abuse, Aggravated Sexual Abuse, Unlawful Imprisonment, Menacing & Criminal Mischief, An investigation revealed that Gardepe menaced and threatened a victim, prevented the victim from leaving, calling 911 and forced unwanted sexual acts. Gardepe was processed and arraigned, he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail.

State Police arrested 22 year old Zachary Hoffman Kowatch, of Arkville for Reckless Endangerment as a Hate Crime, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation. On May 9, Hoffman Kowatch was in a vehicle on Main Street in the village of Fleischmanns when he began yelling anti-semitic remarks at a teenager who was riding a bicycle, he attempted to intentionally strike the teenager and an adult with his vehicle while yelling obscenities and making anti-Semitic remarks before fleeing the scene. Hoffman Kowatch was located at his residence in Arkville and arrested, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on no bail.
Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 1.5% in April compared to the same month in 2023, according to data released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Overall, local collections totaled $1.76 billion, up $26.1 million from the same time last year. New York City's collections increased 3.9%, County and city collections in the rest of the state decreased -0.5%. 25 of 57 counties experienced year-over-year decreases.
Governor Hochul announced the launch of Round 14 of the Regional Economic Development Council Initiative, which includes $445 million in grant and tax-credit funding combined with a wide range of programs from 8 state agencies, Empire State Development is launching the Capital Improvement Grants for Pro-Housing Communities Program and the Small Manufacturer Modernization Grants Program. A 2nd round of the Not-for-Profit Capital Grant Program will make up to $5 million available for organizations that can assist with facility improvements and upgrades.

On Friday, a 3rd Robbery occurred at a gas station in Greene, Loomis was located on Route 12 in the Town of Chenango, A Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Loomis resisted, a Taser was deployed but Loomis drove off, Tire deflation devices were set up, Loomis damaged his tires but continued to flee, eventually leaving the vehicle on foot, he was apprehended. Loomis was wanted on a warrant, & was charged with Robbery, Obstructing governmental administration, reckless endangerment, unlawfully fleeing Police, Resisting arrest & 26 traffic violations, he was being held for arraignment.

Governor Hochul announced the opening of the application period for $50 million in funding for law enforcement agencies across New York State. The funding will allow police departments and sheriffs’ offices outside of New York City to purchase new technology and equipment to modernize their operations, More information is available at criminaljustice.ny.gov. 33 year old Corey Koch of Deposit was sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision for his conviction of Attempted Burglary. Koch appeared in Delaware County Court, he illegally entered the First Baptist Church in Deposit, where he stole property and damaged a filing cabinet. Judge Hubbard additionally sentenced Koch to pay restitution to the Baptist Church, he was ordered to provide a sample of his DNA for inclusion in the State’s DNA data-bank, if he violates the terms and conditions of his probation, he faces the potential of being re-sentenced to 1 and 1/3 to 4 years in state prison. Koch still faces un-related charges in Broome County which are still pending.
43 year old Misty Cintron of Sidney was sentenced to state prison, for pleading guilty for selling illegal drugs in the Village of Sidney. Judge Hubbard sentenced Cintron to serve 3 1/2 years in prison and 1 year of post release supervision for each of her convictions, which will run concurrently, she was also ordered to forfeit $1,116.00 dollars that was seized at the time of arrest, she was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to begin serving her sentence.

Carman was taken into custody and charged with Sexual Misconduct with an Animal & Animal Cruelty, Carman was also arrested on a warrant for violation of probation and was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Tyler Clark of Unadilla following an investigation into a report of sexual abuse allegations. Clark was charged with 2nd degree Rape & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, for allegedly performing sexual acts with a minor under the age of 17, Clark was taken to the Otsego County Correctional Facility and was released after arraignment, an order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.
46 year old Kellie Sanderson of Walton, appeared in Delaware County Court & was sentenced for her conviction of Welfare Fraud. Sanderson previously pleaded guilty to Felony Welfare Fraud was was sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision, she must pay restitution to the Delaware County Department of Social Services & she must submit a DNA sample to the State DNA data bank and pay the $50.00 DNA fee. Sanderson is also disqualified from applying for or receiving temporary assistance for 18 months & disqualified from SNAP for 24 months, Sanderson previously was found guilty of Welfare Fraud in 2014.

Delaware County Sheriff''s Office arrested 43 year old Misty Cintron of Sidney on a Bench Warrant issued by the Delaware County Court, for failure to appear to answer to several counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, tampering with physical evidence, and criminally using drug paraphernalia. Investigators received information that Cintron was living in an apartment in the Village of Sidney, Sheriff's Office Investigators & the Village of Sidney Police Department were able to locate Cintron and take her into custody without incident. Cintron was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail.

The Delaware County Toys for Tots Campaign collected 1300 Items and many Cash Donations, which will support Nearly 300 Delaware County Families and 600 Children this Christmas season. This year's campaign was a joint effort from the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce & Delaware Opportunities, with collection boxes at over 20 businesses.

New York’s decline in local government employment is in contrast to the nation, which saw a 2% increase in the number of full-time employees over this 15-year period. Local government workforce levels were most impacted by two key events during this time – the Great Recession of 2007-09 and the COVID-19 pandemic. School districts were the largest local government employer in 2022, Counties were second, followed by cities and villages and towns.

Congressman Marc Molinaro is pushing the U.S. Department of Agriculture to address the milk carton shortage in Upstate New York. Supply chain problems at 1 of the 2 major milk carton manufacturers has caused schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and other institutions in to forgo serving milk. This milk carton shortage may also force dairy farmers to dump milk if the issue is not rectified quickly.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli released a new report that confirmed, that taxpayers moved out of New York State reached its peak in 2020, when the state was the 1st to have outbreaks of the COVID 19 virus. Net-out migration Declined Significantly in 2021, But Still Exceeded Pre-pandemic Levels, the report found more than one of every 100 resident personal income tax filers left New York state in 2020, with net out-migration 400% higher in 2020 compared to 2019. On August 25, 2022, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a cyber tip that an individual account had downloaded a sexually explicit image of a child in Franklin, records were seized from the Microsoft Corporation and on September 29, 2023, Lane was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Minor. Lane will be sentenced to a ten-year period of felony probation supervision and will be required to register as a sex offender.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 43 year old Jeremie Hoyt of Davenport was sentenced to 20 years in state prison for his conviction of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child. Between January and August of 2019, Hoyt engaged in at least 2 sexual acts with a child under 13 years old, he was sentenced to 20 years of in jail followed by 10 years of post-release supervision, he was also ordered to submit a DNA sample to the State DNA data-bank, he was ordered to pay a $1,000 crime victim’s fee & he must register as a sex offender after he is released from prison.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to a small plane crash near Norwich Sunday afternoon. The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene & was the only occupant of the plane, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office said the pilot was the only occupant of the plane. They were pronounced dead the scene. The investigation has been turned over to the National Safety Transportation Board.
The Delaware County DPW announced road work on county Routes 16 and 21 will take place in the coming weeks. Pavement rehabilitation work began today on county Route 21, from at the Walton village line heading north about 6 1/2 miles, that project will be complete by June 30. The department will begin work on county Route 16 on Monday, June 5, starting in Treadwell and progressing to state Route 10 in Fraser. that project should be completed by June 15. Drivers should expect extended delays during this work. Alternate routes are suggested.

Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation released its report on the death of Roger Lynch on August 6, 2021 in Franklin, which included review of radio transmissions, body-worn camera footage, and interviews. The investigation determined that a prosecutor would not be able to disprove justification beyond a reasonable doubt at trial & criminal charges against the State Trooper who shot Lynch are not warranted. On the evening of August 5th, members of several police agencies responded to a residence on Bob Holloway Road in Delhi, following reports that an individual had been shot, they learned that Lynch had shot multiple times at 1of the residents before driving away, Lynch was found at his house, he came out with a gun aimed under his chin. When the sergeant told him not to shoot himself, Lynch then leveled his shotgun on his shoulder and took aim at a trooper & 1 of the troopers fired his rifle at Lynch, who fell back into the house, where he was pronounced dead.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 22 year old Clarence Vanier of Laurens after a search warrant was executed at a residence in the Town of Laurens. Vanier was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance for a Hallucinogen, among other charges. Deputies were assisting the Oneonta Police Department with a search warrant at which time a large amount of Psilocybin mushrooms were located in the residence. Vanier was being held at the Otsego County Jail pending Central Arraignment.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded May 10th to the Town of Meredith to assist US Homeland Security Units with the apprehension of 48 year old Charles Bodie of Meredith, who was wanted on an active US Federal Court Warrant for the Sexual Exploitation of a Child. Deputies and Homeland Security conducted surveillance of property in Meredith where Bodie had been living, on May 11th, they arrested Bodie on the warrant, he was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility, where he was to be held indefinitely. Bodie was scheduled to be transported to the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York at a later date for arraignment on the Sexual Exploitation of a Child charge, if found guilty, Bodie could face 15 to 30 years in prison.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office announced that a stolen vehicle traffic stop in the Town of Kirkwood led to an arrest on multiple felony drug charges last week. On May 7th, a deputy identified a vehicle as stolen from Binghamton, after stopping the vehicle and confirming its status, Officers seized 11.3 grams of cocaine, a digital scale and $1,423 in cash, 38 year old Jorge Cortina of Binghamton was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, he was processed and issued an appearance ticket to answer for his charges on June 7, 2023 in the Town of Kirkwood Court.

The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that Joel Valdes-Pica of Binghamton was sentenced to 6 years in New York State prison after pleading guilty to Attempted Robbery in the 2nd Degree. In December of 2021, Valdes-Pica assaulted someone making a deposit at the M&T Bank ATM on Exchange Street and stole over $1,000, he also has a prior felony conviction for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree from 2014.

State Police are warning New Yorkers of a computer scam. Police report that when logging on to a computer, a message is displayed on the screen that states to contact Microsoft due to a virus, the victim then contacts the phone number provided and speaks with a person who identifies themselves as a representative of Microsoft’s Security Office. The victim is then told their bank account information has been compromised. Anyone who receives a message to reach out to "Microsoft" support should not call & should never provide any personal information as it can be used to steal personal information.

The Trial of Nauman Hussain starts today in connection with the fatal crash of Hussain's Prestige Limo that crashed in Schoharie, killing 20 people in October 2018. Hussain is facing 20 counts of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, Jury Selection began this afternoon in Schoharie County Court.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force raided 41 Doubleday Street on Tuesday. Police seized Opioids, methamphetamine, suboxone strips, 5 long guns and 2 handguns, they arrested 47 year-old James Roberts on drug and weapons charges & 43 year-old Danielle Ashdown on weapons charges. Thursday, officers pulled over a vehicle with stolen plates in Binghamton and seized hydrocodone, ecstasy and a pair of handguns, 1 was reported stolen from Owego, they arrested 44 year-old Rondell Wright, 34 year-old Calvin Chambers, 24 year-old John Carter and 38 year-old Shauna Massey. On Thursday, officers raided 1 Lawton Avenue in Binghamton and seized meth, fentanyl and drug selling materials. Police arrested 39 year-old Robert Titus on drug charges.
On April 22, Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrol responded to motor vehicle accident at State Route 12 and 12A in the Town of Chenango, 50 year old Jennifer Chamberlain of Binghamton was talked out of the vehicle by a deputy as gas was spilling onto the pavement, fire fighters responded to the crash and leak. Chamberlain attempted to make a turn, but veered wide left, crossing lanes of traffic. Her vehicle jumped over a raised curb and continued over a mulch bed striking several signposts and bushes before coming to a stop in the gas station parking lot. The broken signposts had ruptured the vehicle’s gas tank. Chamberlain's BAC was .27%, over 3 times the legal limit, she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated DWI with a BAC of 0.18 or more, Speed Not Reasonable & Prudent, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation among other charges, she was arraigned and released on an appearance ticket for Town of Chenango Court.
Attorney General Letitia James announced that 340 firearms were turned in at a community gun buyback event hosted by her office and the Johnson City Police Department. Attorney General James' office held 9 gun buyback events statewide with more than 3,000 guns turned in, including 185 assault rifles, 1,656 handguns, and 823 long guns. In Johnson City, they received 25 assault rifles, 169 handguns, and 114 long guns.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 41 year old Clifton Kirk of Summit, pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. Kirk was operating a motor vehicle in excess of the speed limit on I-88 in Sidney on October 23rd 2021, Kirk was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury, he appeared in County Court Monday and pleaded guilty. The anticipated sentence will also require that the defendant’s license be revoked for 12 months, and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine, $300 surcharge, $125 crime victim fee, and a $50 DNA fee.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 27 year old Brandon Morse of Edmeston twice on February 7th. Morse was charged with Possession of a Forged Instrument, 3rd degree Grand Larceny & 2 counts of Petty larceny, following an investigation in to a report a stolen check that was cashed in the amount of $3,500 at a local bank, he allegedly stole the check from a business and conspired with others to cash the check. Morse is also accused of stealing the sign for the same local business which was later recovered. Morse was arrested also for Aggravated Harassment following an investigation in to a report of threatening messages being sent to another person, containing threats of harm to the victim and a family member. Morse is being held in the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending future court action in Towns of Burlington & Town of Edmeston Court
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 28 in the Town of Delhi, crossing over the double yellow line’s multiple times, they conducted a traffic stop, they identified the driver as 30-year-old Carmine Yonnone of Delhi, whose driver’s license was suspended. Yonnone was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Failing to Turn in License to DMV, Moving from a lane unsafely, Unauthorized Sticker and Possession of an open alcoholic Container within a motor vehicle, he will appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23 year old Steven Osei of Binghamton for 3rd degree Grand Larceny & other related charges for allegedly getting cash by depositing fraudulent checks at an ATM. Osei was processed & issued an appearance ticket for Town of Dickinson Court at a later date.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced $100 million in State funding has been released to support the renewal of State roadways impacted by extreme weather. The funding supports repaving projects at 64 locations, totaling almost 520 lane miles of pavement. In the Southern Tier Region, Projects include $1.5 million to resurface Route 12 in the Town of Chenango, $1.3 million to resurface Route 206 in the Towns of Coventry and Bainbridge, & $1.5 million to resurface Route 97 in the Towns of Fremont and Hancock.
On December 30th, Delaware County Sheriff Deputies, received a complaint of a possible animal abuse/neglect involving several dogs, in the Town of Davenport. Deputies arrested 47 year old Doreen Biasi & 24 year old Ashley Biasi for Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals; failure to provide proper sustenance, both were released on appearance tickets for Town of Davenport Court at a later date.

The Chenango County Board of Supervisors and the Civil Service Employees Association reached an agreement on a contract for County Employees through the end of 2024. The contract allows for wage increases up to $2.00 an hour, the contract extension kicks in on October 1.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that police agencies have removed 6,007 illegal guns from communities across New York State during the first 7 months of the year, a 20% increase over 2021. State Police seized 1,468 guns from August 2021 to July 2022: a 140% increase when compared to August 2020 to July 2021, The State's budget contains $227 million to fund programs implemented by law enforcement agencies and community-based organizations.

The state has returned over $234 million in lost or forgotten money, so far this year, unclaimed funds usually come from old bank accounts, utility deposits, uncashed checks, insurance claims, stocks and other sources that have been dormant, dating as far back as the 1940s. Broome County Executive Jason Garner announced that the County has its 1st confirmed case of Monkeypox. Health Department officials stated that some groups may be at heightened risk for severe outcomes if they contract the disease.
