47 year old Eric Rossman of Stamford appeared in the Town of Harpersfield Court Monday & pleaded guilty to 1 count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and 1 count of Conspiracy. In August of 2025, State Police received a report of stolen tools, at a residence located on Wood Road in Jefferson, it was determined that the stolen tools had previously been moved from a house in Harpersfield. Rossman admitted that he did not originally know that the tools were stolen, as he had put his initials on many of them, Once he was aware that they were stolen, he and one co-defendant moved to evade law enforcement. Rossman was sentenced to 1 year of incarceration to be followed by a one-year conditional discharge.

State Police arrested 64 year old Joseph Wyble of Harpersfield after an urgent rescue of animals in Delaware County. Wyble was charged with 12 counts of Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals; & failure to provide proper sustenance, The arrest stems from an investigation in partnership with the Susquehanna SPCA. One pig, three geese, five cats, three chickens and 8 domestic cats were removed from the residence on Odell Lake Road in Harpersfield. Wyble was issued appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Harpersfield Town Court on January 26, 2026.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is looking for 29 year old Charles Dieterich, he is wanted on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Harpersfield Court, for 2nd degree assault, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and resisting arrest. Dieterich is described as a male standing 6 feet tall with black hair and brown eyes. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute, in progress, in the Town of Harpersfield, Deputies arrested 35-year-old Michael Turim of Harpersfield, for Strangulation, Assault, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Mischief and Unlawful Imprisonment, Turim was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where he was held for arraignment.

A Delaware County Grand Jury returned an 8 count indictment against 45 year old Glen Merwin of Harpersfield, for Criminal Mischief, 2 Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child; and 3 counts of Harassment, Criminal Contempt, Merwin is accused of damaging another person's property, acting in a manner endangering children, and ignoring a court order. The allegations stem from incidents in December of 2024.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced that of 51-year-old Eric Dellafiora of North Blenheim, has been arrested on an Arrest Warrant issued out of Schoharie County for failing to appear on charges of Traffic Offenses, Fleeing an Officer, Weapons Offenses, and Obstruction Charges. On Sunday, a Deputy noticed a suspicious vehicle and person at a business that was closed within the Town of Harpersfield, Dellafiora was discovered to have an Arrest Warrant stemming from Schoharie County & was turned over to Schoharie County Sheriff’s Deputies to be processed on the Arrest Warrant.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Ryan Darran of Stamford, for DWI, following an investigation of a motor vehicle accident on May 17th. Deputies responded to a 1 car accident on State Highway 23 in the Town of Harpersfield, the vehicle left the roadway and entered a ditch, Deputies interviewed Darran & charged him with DWI and other lesser charges, Darran was released on appearance tickets for Town of Harpersfield Court at a later date.

Celebrate Earth Day by planting native wildflowers at Rogers Center, On Saturday, the public is invited to plant an assortment of seeds which will expand pollinator habitat around the Rogers Center Three Sisters Garden. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office responded last May to a motor vehicle roll over accident in Harpersfield. 25-year-old Isaiah Caballero of Oneonta, lost control of the vehicle, it left the roadway and struck a tree, 25 year old Nyheim Golden-Williams was killed in the crash. Deputies located cocaine & a loaded pistol that did not have a serial number. Caballero was arrested at the Ulster Correctional Facility Tuesday, he was charged with Criminal Possession of a controlled substance, Criminal Possession of a weapon and Vehicular Manslaughter, he was arraigned and was remanded back to the Ulster Correctional facility on $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies also arrested 21-year-old Alexis Lotterman of Walton for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, she was a passenger in the vehicle and was also in possession of the narcotics and firearm, she was arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 secured bond.

P.M. NEWS WEDNESDAY 10-2-24

State Police responded at about 6:45 Tuesday Morning to a fatal crash on County Highway 29 in the town of Harpersfield. The operator of the vehicle was traveling westbound when for an unknown reason left the roadway and struck a tree head on. The vehicle then became engulfed in flames. State police stated that The operator and only occupant did not survive, he has been identified as 25 year old Cameron Gaffi, of Franklin, New Jersey.

41 year old James Fuller of Fulton, pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Attempted Burglary and was sentenced to 1.5 to 3 years in state prison. Fuller unlawfully entered a barn located on State Highway 10 in the Town of Harpersfield, with the intent to commit a crime, he was also charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, as a result of being found in possession of a bicycle. Fuller was also required to provide a sample of his DNA for inclusion in the State’s DNA Data Bank and to pay fines and surcharges. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Sheriff to begin serving his sentence.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 27 year old Ford Bailey-Banks of Davenport for 2nd degree Burglary, criminal trespass. On March 5th, 2024, Sheriffs Deputies received a complaint that Bailey-Banks had entered onto another’s property and into dwelling, where he stole multiple items as well a firearm, he was transported to the Delaware County Sheriffs Office to await Centralized Arraignment Processing and will be scheduled to appear at the Town of Harpersfield Court at a later date to answer for the charges.

State Police arrested 25 year old Jesse Micha-Hurlburt of Bainbridge, for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Disseminating Indecent Material of a Minor 2nd degree, Coercion and Unlawful Publication of an Intimate Image. On December 8, 2023, State Police received a report of an unknown individual requesting indecent material from a minor over text message and social media, he was arrested earlier this week, and was transported to Chenango County Jail.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced recommendations by the State Board for Historic Preservation to add 15 properties to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Locally the house at 120 Balcom Road, in Mount Vision built in 1810 was nominated, along with The Methodist Episcopal Church and the Free Church were both built in 1857 directly across the road from each other in North Harpersfield.

48-year-old Justin Valk of Davenport was convicted of 2nd degree Burglary in Delaware County Court. Valk was scheduled for a jury trial but at a pre-trial conference, he pleaded guilty. Valk admitted that he went to a seasonal home in Harpersfield, with other co-defendants & the co-defendants entered the home and committed larceny. Valk will be sentenced to 6 years in state prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision, he was sent back to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending sentencing. Valk still faces a 2nd indictment involving the death of his wife, those charges are not included in this case.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 35 year old Ashley Williams of Laurens on multiple counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, Abandonment of Animals & Failure to Provide Sustenance to Animals. On February 19th a search warrant was executed which lead to the discovery of 5 deceased dogs in trash bags. Additionally, 5 live canines were seized & were turned over to the Susquehanna SPCA for medical attention. The deceased dogs were transported to the Cornell University of Veterinary Medicine, it was determined that they starved to death and were partially cannibalized by the living dogs. Williams was found in Oneonta, where city police officers and Otsego County probation officers took the her in to custody, she was transferred to the Sheriff’s Office for processing. Additional charges are pending.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 28 year old Kenneth Dillman of Stamford for Aggravated Unlicensed Operator of a Motor Vehicle and Operation of a Motor Vehicle with an Ignition Interlock device following a traffic stop in the Town of Harpersfield. Deputies observed Dillmann operating a motor vehicle, they knew that Dillmann had 22 suspensions on his revoked license, A traffic stop was conducted, Dillmann was charged & was issued traffic tickets and Appearance Tickets for Town of Harpersfield Court at a later date.

State Comptroller’s Office announced that 2 Otsego County area businessmen have been indicted for a $1 million Medicaid transportation fraud scheme. 46-year-old Philip Mtui and 47-year-old Mbaga Kaiza were partners in Phinaliz Communications, they allegedly sought and received payments for rides that did not actually happen and billed multiple times for rides that did occur. This resulted in $1 million being stolen from Medicaid, they were charged with 1st Degree Grand Larceny & they face court action on May 6.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 45 year old Jolene Hynes of Stamford, following a domestic incident investigation. On July 1st, Deputies responded to a 911 call for a Domestic Dispute in the Town of Harpersfield, Hynes was arrested for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, she also attempted to conceal and destroy evidence by throwing away narcotics and drug paraphernalia. After Deputies received the results from the State Crime Lab, Hynes was additionally charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Evidence Tampering, she was Hynes was released on Appearance Tickets for Town of Harpersfield Court at a later date.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 46-year-old Justin Valk of Davenport was arraigned Monday, on an indictment charging him with 2 Counts of 2nd degree Burglary & 1 count of 3rd degree Burglary. Valk is accused of unlawfully entering a garage on County Route 30, in Harpersfield while displaying what appeared to be a firearm Valk pleaded not-guilty to the 3 count indictment, and he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $100,000.00 cash bail.

On May 4th, Delaware County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to a reported domestic dispute, they arrested 57-year-old Brett Shepler of Harpersfield, for allegedly obstructing the breathing of the victim and damaging property. Deputies arrested and charged Shepler Friday with Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Mischief, he was arraigned in the Town of Harpersfield Court and released on his own recognizance & he was ordered to return at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded Wednesday to a 2 car motor vehicle accident at the intersection in the Town of Harpersfield. Deputies discovered only 1 vehicle at the accident scene, the 2nd operator fled the scene. Deputies identified the operator of the fleeing vehicle as 45-year-old Wayne Swart of Hobart, whose Driver’s License was revoked on 3 separate dates. Deputies arrested Swart Sunday and charged him with Obstructing Governmental Administration, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without an Ignition Interlock Device, and several other related charges, Swart was released on appearance and traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear at the Town of Harpersfield Court at a later date.

Oneonta Police Department is investigating the death of 20-year-old male Tyler Lopresti-Castro. On Thursday at about 6:50 am, City of Oneonta employees located a male, laying on the pavement near the Silas Lane Bus Garage. Lopresti-Castro was identified by his SUNY Oneonta ID and was suffering from extended exposure to subzero temperatures, he was taken to AO Fox Hospital, video showed Lopresti-Castro emerging from a wooded area behind the garage at about 2:15 am, he may have been walking in the area of River Street-River Street Service Road, Oneida Street or Chestnut Street, Anyone with information is asked to contact Oneonta Police at (607) 432-1111 or the State University Police at Oneonta at (607) 436-3550.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 21 year-old Shawn Zimmerman, of Gloversville, for endangering the welfare of a child and forcible touching, Zimmerman is accused of inappropriately touching a juvenile female in the Village of Stamford. Zimmerman was arraigned in the Town of Harpersfield Court where he was issued a temporary order of protection prohibiting him from having contact with the victim, he was released in his own recognizance pending a future appearance in that court.

A 911 call regarding a suspicious vehicle in the Town of Harpersfield last week resulted in a Vermont man being charged with driving while intoxicated. On October 25th, Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to investigate a suspicious vehicle on Peters Road, the driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Antelmo Calvoperez of Vermont, was turned into a driveway and drove over the berm of the driveway causing his vehicle to become stuck over an embankment, he is accused of being intoxicated at the time of the accident. Calvoperez was charged with DWI and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle; he was released & was ordered to appear in the Town of Harpersfield Court on a later date.

State Police at Oneonta arrested 39 year old Daniel Merwin of Jefferson for the 1st degree Assault, plus Menacing, Criminal Mischief & 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, they also arrested 37 year old Jeremy Chase of Harpersfield for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Reckless Endangerment, Menacing & 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  Troopers and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a dispute between neighbors with a shot fired.  Merwin is accused of striking Chase with a wooden fence post & using his vehicle to damage a fence, Chase is accused shooting a firearm into the ground, and the altercation allegedly took place in the presence of children.  Merwin and Chase were processed & will appear at the town of Harpersfield court on August 24th.

State Police arrested an East
Meredith man twice last month for driving while ability impaired by drugs.   On December 8th, troopers arrested 65 year
old Peter Maguire after they were dispatched to the Mirabito Gas Station in
Bainbridge after employees observed Maguire stumble out of a vehicle and then
sit at a table and fall asleep.  On
December 14th, State Police arrested Maguire again after they were dispatched
to the report of an unconscious male parked in a gas station parking lot in the
town of Davenport, Troopers located Maguire in the driver’s seat with his keys
in the ignition, he failed sobriety tests, he was arrested & was arraigned
in the town of Harpersfield court and released on his own recognizance.  Maguire will appear in town of Bainbridge
court on January 7th.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies, State Police and Hobart
Fire Department and Emergency Squad responded to a 911 report of an overturned
car discovered in a body of water on Gun House Hill Road in the Town of
Harpersfield Tuesday.  1st responders
righted the vehicle and extricated the driver, 56 year-old Dominick Leone of
Oneida.  Leone lost control of his
vehicle, struck a culvert and earth embankment before coming to rest on the
roof in a stream.  Leone was pronounced
dead, an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, the
investigation is continuing.

from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  All Proceeds
will go to the Delaware valley Humane Society.

State Police responded to a one-car fatal motor vehicle
accident on Odell Lake Road near Peters Road in the town of Harpersfield at
approximately 10:55 last night.  The only
occupant, the driver of a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado was confirmed deceased by
emergency responders.  An investigation
reveals that the driver traveled off the roadway for an unknown reason and into
a large tree.  The roadway was closed for
approximately four hours. The investigation continues.

Leonard was charged with Criminal possession of marijuana, Unlawfully Growing Cannabis, f Criminal possession of a controlled substance, Obstructing governmental administration & Aggravated unlicensed operation, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $4,000 cash bail or $8,000 bond.

Deputies allege that Thomas failed to care for a dog over a period of time, failing to provide it with proper food, water, shelter and veterinary care. Thomas was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear at the Harpersfield Town Court at a later date.
