With extreme heat forecast in the Tri-County Region over the next few days, Cooling stations will be open at various location, in Delaware County, cooling stations will be at the Sidney Memorial Public Library, the Andes Public Library, other locations may be announced, In Chenango County, designated emergency cooling centers include the Guernsey Memorial Library at 3 Court Street, in Norwich, the Sherburne Public Library, more information may be available from the Chenango County Clerk's Office. IN Otsego County, cooling centers include the Southside Mall, The Foxcare Center as well as the greater Plains & Wilber Pools in Oneonta or the Clark Sport Center in Cooperstown, more information is available at the State Department of Health

A community-wide conversation about housing insecurity and homelessness will take center stage in Norwich next month, as leaders come together to host A Conference on Housing and Belonging. The event will take place from 9:30 am. to 2 pm. on Friday, July 17 in the Norwich High School Auditorium. The conference is free and open to the public. Registration is recommended but not required. State Police responded Tuesday Night to a crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle at State Highway 28 and County Highway 48 in the town of Oneonta. An investigation determined that 76 year old Patricia Howard of Sidney, was operating an SUV on County Highway 48 and began making a left turn onto State Highway 28 when she failed to observe a Motorcycle driven by 57 year old Gabriel Mizrahi of Syosset, he was transported to A.O Fox Hospital & was airlifted to a trauma center but succumbed to his injuries. The investigation is on-going.

State Police responded to a motorcycle crash with an injury on State Highway 7 in the town of Worcester Tuesday. 27 year old Jacob Sprague of Otego was traveling on Route 7 in the town of Worcester when he exited the roadway and struck a utility pole. Sprague was assisted by civilians in the area until EMS arrived. Sprague was transported by Lifenet to Albany Medical Center for further treatment. The investigation is on-going.

The collaboration between the Tri County Senior Center & The Delaware Valley Humane Society has resulted in a cookbook for sale, to raise money for the Shelter, Carol Allen of Tri County Senior Center & Erin Insinga of the Humane Society told WCDO News how the plan started:

The Cookbook was turned into a book by USA Custom Pad of Sidney & is available at the Senior Center and the Delaware Valley Humane Society.

The Intensive Crisis Stabilization Center is now open and it will be one of only 12 such centers in New York State, they provide on-site care for people experiencing mental health or substance use crises, offering stabilization services for up to 24 hours. The center is for residents in the Mohawk Valley area counties, including Otsego County.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Nicolas Martinez of Milford has been arrested for Offering a False Instrument for Filing. Martinez was charged following an investigation into information he provided on paperwork submitted to the Otsego County Civil Office, a background investigation in to Martinez's pistol permit application, found that he intentionally failed to disclose sensitive information required by law for the application, he was processed and released with an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced the indictments against 3 people in the case of a disabled child who consumed methamphetamine, where 3 adults were present. Indicted were 70 year old Sam Tessora, 29 year old Eric Ferguson & 39 year old Tanya Carson, all from Masonville for Reckless Endangerment & Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Disabled Child, the child was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for treatment after he was found unresponsive. The indictment accuses the defendants of acting with depraved indifference to human life which created a grave risk to the child, on March 7th in Masonville, all 3 could face up to 7 years in prison, they face arraignment on the indictment charges shortly.

36 year old Spencer Gransbury of Walton pleaded guilty to Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, in Delaware County Court Tuesday, Gransbury admitted that he downloaded a photograph of a child approximately ten years old engaged in sexual conduct. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a Cybertip of child sex abuse material being viewed with a phone, which was traced to Gransbury, he was sentenced to 10 years felony probation with sex offenders’ terms and conditions, he is banned from entering any place that children congregate, and all of his devices will also be subjected to monitoring by the Delaware County Probation Department, he will also be required to register as a sex offender for at least 20 years.

US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced the passage of the Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence Act, following the rise in Fentanyl overdoses & deaths, the bill increases the ability to go after the drug traffickers and seizing their assets:

Broome County Sheriff's Office announced that 23 year old Souley Pertilla-Camara of Binghamton was arrested in Orlando, Florida. Pertilla-Camara was wanted by Binghamton City Police for the shooting of Lamont Weaver on June 17, 2023, where Weaver sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and survived, he was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Pertilla-Camara will be returned to Broome County shortly.

The Rochester Police Department identified the two victims of a crash initiated by Michael Avery of Syracuse, as 28-year-old Justina Hughes of Geneva and 29-year-old Joshua Orr of Webster. Police stated that Avery bought gasoline several gasoline containers and crashed rental car in outside the Kodak Center parking lot in Rochester, Avery died at an area hospital, 9 people were injured Police working traffic detail said that Avery appeared to be speeding toward a crowd of people in a crosswalk before he hit the ride share vehicle containing Hughes and Orr. The investigation is continuing.

Several Area Fire companies responded to a fire this afternoon at 2050 State Route 206, in Masonville. The Fire was reported shortly before 1:00 PM & was fully engulfed when the first firefighters arrived. Fire Companies from Masonville, Sidney, Sidney Center, Bainbridge, Deposit, Trout Creek, Hancock, Walton, Unadilla & The Franklin FAST team were called in to the structure, which was located right near the intersection of 206 & State Route 8. Sidney Village Elections are being held today at the Sidney Civic Center 1st Floor Board Room, Deputy Mayor Vic Tartaglia & Sidney EMS Director Ray Baker are seeking to replace Andy Matviak, who is not seeking re-election after serving as Sidney Mayor for 12 years. Village elections are being performed throughout the state, polling places will be open until 9:00 PM.

A.O. Fox Hospital and Bassett Healthcare Network announced that FoxCare Fitness in Oneonta will be closing permanently as of June 1 for Gym memberships, Spokesperson Gabby Argo told WCDO News that the pandemic made things harder for the facility to remain open as a Gym:

Argo said that Bassett has been discussing a possible collaboration with the Oneonta YMCA but so far no agreement has been reached. The last day of operations at FoxCare Fitness will be May 31.

A Recruitment Event is being held at the Norwich CDO Workforce this Thursday, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at 1 O'Hara Drive. State Police arrested 73 year old Brooks Anderson of Albany for Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle. Anderson was observed traveling at a high rate of speed by a trooper on I-88 in Worcester, the trooper attempted a traffic stop but Anderson fled into the town of Oneonta, where he was boxed in by Police vehicles and then refused to exit the vehicle. Anderson was ultimately taken into custody and was processed, he will appear in the Town of Worcester Town Court on December 20th.

The new Oneonta VA Clinic at Foxcare opens today, with full service beginning tomorrow, Peter Potter of the Albany VA clinic told WCDO News that a Doctor will be there on an interim basis until a permanent Doctor is named:

The VA clinic replaces the Bainbridge VA clinic which had experienced a 76% decline in visitations in recent years.

The Bainbridge American Legion VA Clinic will be closing on December 1st, & Area Veterans can go to the Binghamton VA Clinic at 203 Court Street, or the the new VA Clinic located at the Fox Care Center, in Oneonta. Peter Potter of the Stratton VA Center in Albany said that the new Oneonta location is a better alternative:

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced that a new VA clinic will be opening soon at the Foxcare Center in Oneonta, replacing the one that has been in Bainbridge for several years, Peter Potter of the Albany Veterans Affairs office said that the clinics usage is examined every 5 years, and usage of the Bainbridge clinic was down:

Potter said that the opening date for the new VA Clinic at Foxcare will likely be early December, and the Bainbridge office will remain open until the Friday before the Oneonta Office opens.

The Centers for Disease Control confirm that Sullivan County is the latest New York county to test positive for Polio, Sullivan County has a 62.33% polio vaccination rate, their residents are urged to get vaccinated. New York State reported the first polio case in the United States since 2014, when an unvaccinated Rockland County man was hospitalized after traveling in Europe in July. The CDC began testing Rockland County residents and water samples, polio has also been found in Orange County and New York City wastewater, and testing is continuing.
