State Police responded to a report of a child in distress at a swimming pool at the Binghamton Country Club on Robinson Hill Road. Upon the Troopers’ arrival, bystanders and lifeguards had already initiated lifesaving measures for an unresponsive 11-year-old boy, Troopers assisted in those efforts until the child was transported by ambulance to Wilson Medical Center and subsequently flown to Upstate University Hospital, where the child passed away. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office following further examination. No foul play is suspected at this time.

Foothills Performing Arts & Civic Center announced today a grant award totaling $324,000 from the New York State Council on the Arts to support the organization’s goal of sound proofing their various event spaces, and to build an addition for more dressing rooms to the Production Center. This grant is part of a capital project funding announcement by NYSCA, which totals over $82 million to 132 arts and culture facilities across New York State, with the improvements, Foothills will be able to host more events simultaneously.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office received cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, they arrested 20-year-old Jose Hernandez Martinez of Oneonta on 7 counts of possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child and 32 counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child, he was also found to be in the country illegally and is originally from El Salvador. Officers found him in the Town of Oneonta and arrested him without incident. He will be held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility until he is arraigned.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced Empire AI campus partnerships between SUNY’s university centers, university colleges, technology colleges, and community colleges to advance artificial intelligence research and education for the public good. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 30-year-old Daniel Roe of Davenport, who is accused of subjecting a juvenile to sexual contact in May 2024. Roe was also alleged to have subjected another juvenile to inappropriate sexual conversations during the same time frame. Investigators arrested Roe on 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 1 count of Forcible Touching, 1 count of Sexual Abuse, Roe was arraigned & Orders of Protection were issued for the victims. Roe was later released on his own recognizance and was directed to appear at the Town of Davenport Court at a later date to answer the charges.

39 year old Tanya Carson of Masonville was convicted in Delaware County Court today to Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person in the First Degree. The investigation began when a 14-year-old disabled child was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor, the unconscious child was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where it was discovered that he had methamphetamine in his system. Carson admitted that she & 2 male individuals had been using methamphetamine in the same home as the disabled child and the child must have accessed the illicit substance, Carson will be sentenced on January 20th.

Chobani announced that the City of Rome Planning Board approved Chobani's plan to build a facility, consisting of 8 buildings. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident on I-81 in the City of Binghamton Thursday morning. Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol and emergency personnel responded to a 3-car accident on I-81 south at the off ramp of Exit 12, they found a U-Haul truck on fire with the driver entrapped in the vehicle, they attempted to extinguish the flames, the U-Haul operator was extricated and transported to Wilson Medical Center, but was was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The U-Haul was towing a vehicle, after merging from Route 17 and was approaching the off ramp of Exit 12 when an SUV attempted to merge across several lanes and struck the U-Haul, causing the operator to lose control and collide with a DOT attenuator truck. The identity of the deceased will be released pending notification of next of kin.

A Chenango County Grand Jury Indicted Zackery England for criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell (fentanyl), possession of methamphetamine, and criminal possession of a forged instrument. Prosecutors said England also attempted to discard fentanyl by throwing it into bushes during a July 23 incident in Norwich. England will appear in Chenango County Court for arraignment shortly.

A State Trooper observed a vehicle off the roadway on State Highway 30 near County Highway 8 in the town of Roxbury Sunday Morning. An investigation at the scene determined that a Jeep Cherokee was traveling west on State Highway 30 when it went off the roadway and struck an embankment. 59 year old Karen Tesi of Grand Gorge was transported to Margaretville Hospital then later air lifted by LifeNet to Albany Medical Center. Her injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
State Police arrested 26 year old Morgan Hopkins of Cortland for Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child Less than 17 years of age and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child less than 16 years of age. Hopkins is accused of promoting and possessing images consistent with child sexual exploitation. His arrest followed an investigation and the execution of a search warrant at his Cortland residence. The investigation stemmed from a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Hopkins was transported to the Cortland County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Delaware County Public Health Services was notified of a positive flock of highly pathogenic avian influenza, also known as H5N1. The flock consists of 150 chickens, geese and ducks. Federal & State agencies are on site at the farm advising on depopulating, cleaning, and disinfection activities. Contact with the flock was limited to the owner. To date, there have been no human cases of avian influenza and no detections in cattle or domestic pets; it is advisable to keep children & pets away from dead birds or animals. National surveillance of milk is currently in place in multiple states including New York.
