State Police are asking the public’s help in locating 29-year-old Anthony Masi after an assault in Oneonta. State Police were called to the Budget Inn on State Route 23 Thursday evening for a report of a woman bleeding, Troopers found a victim bleeding heavily from a large cut on her nose, from a machete-type knife during an argument. The victim was taken to Bassett Hospital, and transferred to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse to undergo surgery, Anyone with information about Masi or his location is asked to contact State Police at 607-561-7400.

The Village of Sidney Police Department with the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, executed an arrest warrant Monday stemming from a domestic violence investigation from November. 40 year old Donald Craw was charged with Criminal contempt, 3rd degree Assault & Criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, Craw was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail.
Sidney Police responded Sunday to a 1 car property damage accident on Steiner Road, where a vehicle had struck a fence, causing considerable damage. 36 year old Jayson Fulton of Sidney was charged with DWI & Aggravated DWI, for allegedly operating the vehicle while impaired, he was released on appearance tickets for Sidney Court at a later date.
The Chenango County Bureau of Fire and Emergency Services will distribute of KN-95 masks from the state throughout the County. Masks will be distributed to high volume locations like the Norwich YMCA, county offices, non-profit organizations, schools, and other municipalities. The State has been delivering masks for people to have free of charge in order to try to slow down the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID 19.

Oneonta Police Department is continuing the investigation into the bank robbery that occurred at the NBT Bank on Wall Street in Oneonta, Wednesday. Police believe that the suspect was aided by another person that drove him to the scene in a small four door sedan, possibly red in color with New York State blue and gold plates, which was parked in the municipal parking lot at Wall and Dietz Streets. Anyone with surveillance cameras downtown that may have captured video of traffic on Main Street from 10:40 am to 11:10 am is asked to contact the Oneonta Police Detective Division, at (607) 432-1111.
Several New Laws go into effect in 2022 in New York state. Officials in towns, villages, and cities across the state have until the end of the day today to opt-out of allowing marijuana sales within their jurisdictions. There will be an increase in the minimum wage, with different wages around the state, the new Paid Family Leave Act clarifies the number of leave days eligible employees can take and a Solitary Confinement Act restricts the use of solitary confinement in state prisons to no more than 15 consecutive days. Also, New York’s ban on single-use Styrofoam food and beverage containers, as well as ‘packing peanuts,’ takes effect tomorrow.
First Night Oneonta will have a New Year's Eve Festival of Lights event at Neahwa Park this evening from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Food & Entertainment & a 150 foot long sparkling pedestrian archway will be among the highlights to the event, which is free to the public.

Former Assembly Republican Minority Leader Brian Kolb pleaded guilty Monday to driving while ability impaired, relating to an incident on New Year's Eve 2019 in Ontario County. Police reported that Kolb was behind the wheel when he crashed his state-issued vehicle went into a ditch, he blamed the crash on his wife. Kolb stepped down from the position of Assembly Minority Leader days later, he did not seek re-election to the Assembly in November 2020.
On Wednesday, October 27th, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a male subject acting irrational and driving at an extremely high rate of speed on State Highway 30 in the Middletown/Andes area. Responding Deputies located 29-year old James Lor of Margaretville, who is accused of operating the vehicle while in an intoxicated condition. Lor’s Driver’s license was revoked due to numerous previous DWI related suspensions. Lor was also found to be in possession of a small quantity of Cocaine. Lor was charged with Felony DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, along with several other charges, Lor was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court and was released on his own recognizance, pending court action at the Town of Middletown Court at a later date.

State Police, the Delhi Police Department, and the State University Police at Delhi responded to a fight Sunday at a large college party off campus on Scotch Mountain Road in Delhi. One person sustained stab wounds and was ultimately transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment. 3 others were treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The incident is still under investigation but appears to be an isolated incident. Anyone who may have witnessed the altercation is asked to call New York State Police at (607)432-3934.
Delaware County Public Health reported 1 more COVID 19 death in their report covering last Thursday & Friday, bringing their total to 64. The County had a positivity rate of 4.86%, more than twice the state average, they had 39 new cases, 108 active cases & 6 hospitalized and 125 quarantined. 52.1% of eligible Delaware County Residents were vaccinated against COVID 19.
UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital will be hosting two upcoming vaccination clinics for eligible individuals looking to receive a booster or third dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. The clinics will be held from 8 am. to 2 pm. on both Saturday, November 6 and Saturday, November 13 in UHS Cardiology Norwich, located on the hospital’s first floor. On October 28, 2021, Troopers monitored traffic in the active work zone on State Route 17 east to Interstate 81 north in the city of Binghamton. Road crews were replacing concrete pavement. During the detail, a trooper blends in with the workers and watches for risky and unsafe behavior. 5 Tickets were issued for speeding, 4 for cellphone use while driving, 2 for violating seat belt laws & 5 for other assorted violations.
Local sales tax collections totaled $5.2 billion in the third quarter (July-September of 2021), up $861 million (20%) from the same period last year and continuing the trend of exceeding pre-pandemic levels, according to a report released today from State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Statewide, every region saw solid growth in sales tax collections during the third quarter compared to the same period last year. Outside of New York City, the July-September period marked the fifth consecutive quarter that county and city sales tax receipts met or exceeded pre-pandemic levels. Statewide local sales tax collections in the third quarter of 2021 grew 8.6% ($409 million) over the pre-pandemic third quarter of 2019.

The Otsego County Health Department reported 1 more COVID 19 death Thursday, bringing their total of deaths from COVID for this year to 48 & 67 deaths since the pandemic began. The Department reported 20 new cases Thursday with 173 active cases, 7 hospitalized & 5267 total cases since March of 2020.
The State Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, September 22 at 5:30 PM, to present the design plans for improvements to pavement, sidewalks and drainage on State Route 7 in the Village of Otego. The project will enhance bicycle and pedestrian safety and improve resiliency along Main Street from the I-88 ramps to the Otsdawa Creek Bridge. The in-person event will take place at the Otego Fire Department at 5 River Street in Otego. Beginning October 24, in the 607 area, callers must dial 10-digits, the area code + telephone number, for all local calls, those who only dial the 7 digit phone number will not have their call completed, and a recording will remind the caller to hang up and dial again using the area code and the 7-digit number.
The Otsego County Health Department reported that a bat has tested positive for Rabies on Thursday in Cooperstown. Officials said that there was no human exposure; more information about rabies is available at 547-4230.

State Police are investigating the intentional burning of a pride flag outside of a home in Gilbertsville. The flag was hanging on the front porch of the home on Spring Street when it was set on fire sometime between September 9 and September 12. The fire also caused minor damage to the paint on the front porch. The homeowner also reported that another pride flag and a “Keep it Kind” lawn sign were stolen from the same property several weeks ago. It is unknown at this time if the incidents are related. Anyone with information is asked to New York State Police at (607) 561-7400.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced that $200 Million dollars in additional food assistance through the SNAP program will be available through the end of September. All SNAP Recipients Will Receive Maximum Food Benefits for the Month, Governor Hochul also directed the state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance to continue working with the federal government to ensure these supplemental benefits will reach households in need throughout the fall.
The 6th annual Friends of Rogers Wild Goose Chase 5k Trail Run/Walk will be both virtually and on-site at the Rogers Center in Sherburne on Saturday. Village of Sidney Police Department responded to a complaint of a burglary in progress on River Street Wednesday. Officers responded to the area and arrested 29 year old Bradly Falkenmeyer of Sidney for 3rd degree Burglary, Criminal mischief & Petty larceny. Falkenmeyer was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail with no option of bail.
State Senator Peter Oberacker announced that community libraries throughout the 51st senatorial district have been awarded a total of nearly $300,000 in public library construction grant funds. The grants are from $14 million in capital funds for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects provided in the current state budget. Locally, the Edmeston Free Library will receive over $92,000 for 3 projects, the Kinney Memorial Library in Hartwick will receive $9,000 for a roofing project, & the Sidney Memorial Public Library will receive over $32,000 to renovate the parking lot.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that the Great New York State Fair will return in 2022 as a 13-day event, running from Wednesday, August 24 to Labor Day, Monday, September 5. The return to a 13-day event will allow for greater participation of fairgoers and vendors at not only the New York State Fair, but also at a number of the State's county fairs that had coinciding schedules. The Governor also seeks a Review of Opportunities to improve Youth and Agricultural Programming; Marketing and Promotion for County Fairs; and the State Fair's Smoking Policy.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that New York will delay the requirement that state employees get vaccinated against COVID 19 or undergo weekly tests to October 12th, which is the same day telecommuting workers are scheduled to return to their offices. Governor Hochul said that Workers in hospitals and nursing homes must get their first dose by September 27th, and employees at home care agencies, hospices and adult care facilities have until October 7th to get the first shot. SUNY and CUNY students are also mandated to show proof of vaccination by Sept. 27 to remain enrolled in classes. Some medical exemptions will be accepted.

The State Health Department released the statistics for COVID 19 testing on Sunday, with over 101,000 tests administered & a positivity rate jumping up to 3.75%, the majority of those were of the Delta Variant among people who were not vaccinated. Patient Hospitalizations went back over 2,000 Sunday, ICU patients are just over 400 and those on ventilators are up to 188, there were 29 deaths from COVID Sunday, and over 29,000 Vaccine Doses were administered.
The Chenango United Way will be merging with the Delaware & Otsego Counties United Way soon; Chenango United Way Executive Director Elizabeth Monaco told WCDO News that the pandemic made the situation difficult for many not-for-profit organizations:

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Friday to a custody dispute in the Town of Middletown, Upon arrival, Deputies learned that the suspect, 30-year old Jeremey Aubry of Margaretville, had taken an 8-year old child from a birthday party on a dirt bike and operated the dirt bike through the Village of Margaretville without helmets. Aubry was charged with endangering the welfare of a child & was released on an appearance ticket for Middletown Court on a later date.

Governor Cuomo declared a State of Emergency on for more than half the counties in the state, including all of the local counties, as Hurricane Henri was aiming for Long Island Sunday. The Governor's declaration of a state of emergency ensures resources which are assigned for State use only are provided to local governments to help protect citizens and infrastructure. Governor Cuomo activated 500 National Guard troops for deployment to help localities with storm response efforts. A Flash Flood watch remains in effect through 8:00 PM tonight.

The State Labor Department Statewide Unemployment rate decreased 1/10th of 1% in July from 7.7% to 7.6%. Outside of New York City, the unemployment rate decreased from 5.5% to 5.4%. The State Economy added over 43,800 jobs in July, bringing the private sector Job Count to just under 7.5 million, it had dropped to 6.9 million following the shutdown from the pandemic, prior to that the job count was more than 8.2 million.
New York Lottery Announced the Launch of Additional Powerball Drawings on Monday Nights, starting August 23rd, with sales beginning on Sunday, August 22nd. The new drawing joins the lineup of Powerball drawings currently held Wednesday and Saturday evenings. More information is available at nylottery.ny.gov.
Governor Cuomo signed legislation requiring banking institutions that maintain checking accounts to pay checks in the order they are received. If a bank receives a check for a greater amount of money than the balance in the account, it may decline to pay the check. However, the banking institution must honor any smaller checks that can be paid with the existing account balance. Previously, if a banking institution receives a check for a larger amount of money than the funds in the account, it will not only dishonor that check, but all subsequent checks, even if there are sufficient funds in the account to pay them.
Commerce Chenango announced that the effort to strengthen broadband across Chenango County will be getting a $1.9 million assist from the New York State Office of Community Renewal. The Chenango County Board of Supervisors accepted the Community Development Block Grant recently through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, or "CARES" Act. Funds will be used to bolster wireless internet in the City of Norwich and the Town of New Berlin, plans call for the installation of wireless antennas atop already existing tall structures within the municipalities.
Sidney Police Department responded early this morning to the area of Great American for a report of a person causing a disturbance. Upon arrival officers located 38 year old Bobbi Worden, who is alleged to have caused damage to a vehicle, she became combative when officers attempted to take her into custody. Worden was charged with Criminal mischief, Resisting arrest, Obstruction of governmental administration, she was released on an appearance ticket for Village of Sidney Court at a later date.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Joseph Henahan of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court yesterday, to 10 years in State Prison followed by 15 years of post-release supervision, after being found guilty of 1st degree attempted rape , for trying to arrange a sexual encounter with an 8 year old through social media. The FBI & State Police assisted with the investigation.
The Chenango Blues Festival begins tonight in the East Park in Downtown Norwich with a free show starting at 7:00 PM tonight, with Friday Night's concert at the Chenango County Fair Grounds in Norwich, the Friday show is Free to all but unvaccinated individuals should wear a mask and social distance. The Sherburne EMS Squad received a gift from Chobani, a $150,000 ambulance. The new Ambulance was unveiled Tuesday at the Chobani plant, Sherburne Mayor Bill Acee told WCDO News recently that the old ambulance had numerous problems that would cost about $10,000 to repair, and fundraising efforts were underway to get a new ambulance, which will cover the Village of Sherburne and the Fire Departments that protects 3 adjacent townships.

The Sherburne EMS Squad received a gift from Chobani, a $150,000 ambulance. The new Ambulance was unveiled Tuesday at the Chobani plant, Sherburne Mayor Bill Acee told WCDO News recently that the old ambulance had numerous problems that would cost about $10,000 to repair, and fundraising efforts were underway to get a new ambulance, which will cover the Village of Sherburne and the Fire Departments that protects 3 adjacent townships.

New York Attorney General Letitia James today issued an alert to New Yorkers, warning them about the "Boss Scam," a common text and email scam in which fraudsters pose as a consumer's employer and request gift cards due to a purported work emergency. This scam may be on the rise during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic since many employees are working remotely. New Yorkers who have been targeted by this scam are urged to file a complaint by completing and submitting a Consumer Frauds and Protection Bureau online complaint form or by calling (800) 771-7755.
Due to an increased spread of COVID-19, Chenango County is requiring mandatory face masks in all County Buildings and Offices at the start of business on Monday, August 16, 2021. It is also at this time recommended that Chenango County businesses, organizations and schools immediately implement a face mask requirement for their vaccinated and unvaccinated employees, patrons and students. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested of 33-year-old Brad Wenk of Lakewood, Pennsylvania, on State Highway 268 in the Town of Tompkins for traveling at a high rate of speed. Deputies determined that Wenk was operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, he is charged with aggravated DWI & Wenk will appear in the Tompkins Town Court on a later date.

State Police responded to a crash involving 2 vehicles at the intersection of State Route 28 and James F. Lettis Highway in the town of Oneonta at about noon on Sunday July 4th. A motorcycle operated by 29 year old Anthony Masi of Otego was on State Highway 28 when he struck a Chevy Traverse that was on James F. Lettis Highway. Masi was transported to A.O Fox Memorial Hospital & was later transported by LifeNet to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The operator of the Traverse was not injured. State Police revealed that Masi's motorcycle was recently reported as stolen. The investigation is on-going.
The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the "Grand Re-Opening" of businesses after the recent removal of COVID pandemic restrictions, with a series of ceremonial ribbon cuttings all over the County, Chamber President Ray Pucci told WCDO News that they will be on Main Street in Sidney tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM:

Chenango County Public Health announced that their next COVID vaccination clinic will be on July 14th at Seeber's Tavern in Smithville Flats from 3:00 to 6:00pm, then on July 15th a 1st dose Pfizer for 12 years and older clinic will be held at the former Label Shopper Store, in the South Plaza, in Norwich from 4:00 to 6:00pm. 61.7 % of the 18 plus County population has had one dose of vaccine; more information is available at 337-1660.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's office reported that Chenango County's local sales tax collections were up over 21% in the first 5 months of 2021, following similar good News about Delaware County. Sales tax collections across the state were up significantly in the first 2 quarters, New Yorkers as a whole were making home improvements, spending more with local merchants, and the state is collecting a growing amount of tax collections from online retailers and at the gas pumps.

Village of Sidney Police Department officers responded to a residence on River Street on June 13th for a report of an assault, officers found the victim bleeding from a laceration to his head, the suspect fled the scene, and allegedly used a shovel to attack the victim. Sidney Police Department arrested 46 year old John Hedman of Unadilla, he was charged with 2nd degree Assault & Criminal possession of a weapon, he was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court where he was released on his own recognizance to appear back in court on a later date.
The Delaware County Department of Public Works will begin oil and stone operations in the northern portion of the county Today, on county Route 3 followed by county routes 6, 41, 8, 36 and 37. The work is expected to take 3 to 4 weeks, depending on weather.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the "Grand Re-Opening" of businesses after the recent removal of COVID pandemic restrictions, with a series of ceremonial ribbon cuttings all over the County, Chamber President Ray Pucci told WCDO News that they will be on Main Street in Sidney tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM:

Pucci said that his team will visit Walton & Delhi after their Sidney Visit, they will go on Thursday to Margaretville, Fleischmann’s, Arkville & Hobart & they will conclude the series on Friday in Hancock & Andes.
Governor Cuomo announced a plan for those unable to travel to vaccination sites to receive their vaccine from the comfort of their own home. Chenango County Public Health announced that their next COVID vaccination clinic will be on July 14th at Seeber's Tavern in Smithville Flats from 3:00 to 6:00pm, then on July 15th a 1st dose Pfizer for 12 years and older clinic will be held at the former Label Shopper Store, in the South Plaza, in Norwich from 4:00 to 6:00pm. 61.7 % of the 18 plus County population has had one dose of vaccine; more information is available at 337-1660.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's office reported that Chenango County's local sales tax collections were up over 21% in the first 5 months of 2021, following similar good News about Delaware County. Sales tax collections across the state were up significantly in the first 2 quarters, New Yorkers as a whole were making home improvements, spending more with local merchants, and the state is collecting a growing amount of tax collections from online retailers and at the gas pumps.

Village of Sidney Police Department officers responded to a residence on River Street on June 13th for a report of an assault, officers found the victim bleeding from a laceration to his head, the suspect fled the scene, and allegedly used a shovel to attack the victim. Sidney Police Department arrested 46 year old John Hedman of Unadilla, he was charged with 2nd degree Assault & Criminal possession of a weapon, he was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court where he was released on his own recognizance to appear back in court on a later date.
The Delaware County Department of Public Works will begin oil and stone operations in the northern portion of the county Today, on county Route 3 followed by county routes 6, 41, 8, 36 and 37. The work is expected to take 3 to 4 weeks, depending on weather.

Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched Sunday morning to the Mirabito Gas Station in the Village of Greene where they located 31 year old Phillip Cosilmon of Smithville slumped over his steering wheel, with drugs & drug paraphernalia in plain view. Cosilmon was taken into custody and the Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division conducted a search of the vehicle and seized 2 pounds of Methamphetamine, Cocaine, Heroin, & other narcotics plus over $22,000 in cash, the narcotics seized had a street value exceeding $100,000. Cosilmon was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, he was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail, pending action in Chenango County Court on May 17th. The investigation is still ongoing, and more charges are likely.

The Unadilla Town Highway Department announced that they are paving 3 roads Tuesday. Skyline Drive, Hutchinson Hill Road & Hulbert Hill Road will be closed to traffic, on & off during the day.
The town of Bainbridge Highway Department announced that Kelly Road, between State Routes 7 & 8 will be closed tomorrow for paving. The road will be closed starting at 7:00 AM, until about 5:00 PM.
The Unatego Central School district will be asking for voter approval tomorrow on a $27.8 million dollar building project, Unatego Superintendent Dr. Dave Richards explains:

Senator Oberacker is looking to submit legislation to make it easier to someone looking to volunteers for their local emergency squad, Senator Oberacker still volunteers with the Schenevus Emergency Squad.
Local government sales tax collections in April grew by 45.7% over the same month in 2020, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Collections totaled $1.5 billion, up $464 million from April of last year, as the state was in the beginning stages of dealing with the COVID 19 pandemic & shutting down to try to curtail the spread of the virus. DiNapoli said collections last month were still strong, up by more than 10.2% when compared to April of 2019, which was well before the pandemic.
The public is invited to shop for gently-used items donated by SUNY Oneonta students following the campus' annual Move-Out Donation and Reuse collection, tomorrow at 9:00 AM at the ReUse Center, 23 Duane Street, Oneonta. The college had designated collection spaces in each of the 10 active residence halls to collect the items students no longer wanted, Off-campus students donated directly to the ReUse Center Proper mask use and social distancing will be enforced at the event. Patient Hospitalizations Drop to 1,583, ICU Patients Drop to 392, Intubations Drop to 225 & there were 33 COVID-19 Deaths in New York State Saturday.
