Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded March 18th to a 2 car accident with injuries on County Highway 26, in the Town of Colchester. 1 vehicle had left the lane of travel, crossed over the double yellow line, and struck an oncoming vehicle head on. 49-year-old Andras Kasuba of Brooklyn was charged with DWI, driving with a BAC greater than 0.08%, aggravated DWI, plus 3 counts of Assault & several other charges. The driver of the other vehicle and 1 passenger were transported by Lifenet to Albany Medical Center and a 3rd passenger was taken to Delaware Valley Hospital, Kasuba was released on tickets returnable to the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

Governor Hochul & U.S. Senators Schumer & Gillibrand announced that New York State will receive $100 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Treasury through the American Rescue Plan to expand high-speed internet. The funding will allow them to connect about 100,000 homes and families to affordable, high-speed internet across the state, more information is available at fcc.gov/acp.

Butterball has issued a recall on more than 14,000 pounds of ground turkey products after consumers complained of finding pieces of blue plastic embedded in their raw ground turkey. The items being recalled are the 2.5-pound "farm to family Butterball all-natural Ground Turkey" trays with a sell-by date of October 18th, and the 3-pound "Kroger Ground Turkey" trays with an October 17 sell-by date. The items were produced on September 28, & should be returned to the place of purchase.

The FCC has adopted rules to establish 988 as the new, nationwide, 3-digit phone number for Americans in crisis to connect with suicide prevention and mental health crisis counselors. To ensure that calls to 988 reach the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, area codes with a "988 Exchange, will need to transition to 10-digit dialing. Beginning THIS SUNDAY, in the 607 area, callers must dial 10-digits, the area code + telephone number, for all local calls, those who only dial the 7 digit phone number will not have their call completed, and a recording will remind the caller to hang up and dial again using the area code and the 7-digit number.

The FCC today authorized nearly $16.2 million in federal funding through the FCC’s Connect America Fund, over the next decade to expand broadband to 8,088 unserved rural New York homes and businesses, the second round of matching funds being provided in a partnership with the state’s New NY Broadband Program.  Providers will begin receiving funding this month.   Locally, DTC Cable will receive $2,103,935 over the next decade to expand broadband to 712 rural homes and businesses at downstream speeds of at least 100 Mbps and upstream speeds of 20 Mbps

Governor Cuomo, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, and Congressman Chris Collins announced that more than $170 million in federal funds will be returned to Upstate New York to expand broadband and high speed internet service, after the FCC reversed course on a plan and decided to keep money designated for New York in New York. According to the FCC, there were 78,245 households in Upstate NY where Verizon declined funding. Pursuant to the Order issued by the FCC, New York State will award this declined funding of $170 million over 10 years in concert with upcoming rounds of its broadband auction.

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer announced new legislation he will introduce in the Senate that would require landline and mobile carriers to offer free robocall-blocking technology to all consumers. The Act would also direct the FCC to require telephone companies to label and block calls with fraudulent caller ID, it also subjects callers to penalties, fines, or state actions to those who intentionally cause call-blocking technology to incorrectly identify callers originating from an automatic dialing system or using an artificial or prerecorded voice.

The State Attorney General’s office, along with the Attorneys General of 49 other states, the FTC, and the FCC, reached a $105 million settlement with AT&T Mobility LLC. The settlement resolves allegations that AT&T Mobility placed on consumers’ mobile telephone bills, charges for third-party services that had not been authorized by consumers, a practice known as “cramming.” The settlement requires AT&T Mobility to pay $20 million to states, including $572,960 to the State of New York and $80 million to the FTC to pay restitution to consumers. The settlement also requires AT&T Mobility to take steps to ensure it bills consumers only for third-party charges that have been authorized
