Morris Fire Fighters responded to a blaze at a vacant house at 50 South Broad Street Saturday at around 5:15 pm. Mutual aid was received from fire fighters in West Laurens, South New Berlin, Gilbertsville, Pittsfield, Edmeston, Unadilla and Otego, the cause of the fire is under investigation, no injuries were reported.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 25 year old Alexis Damulis of Burlington following a traffic stop on February 7th in the Town of Edmeston. Damulis was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a suspended or revoked registration, Failure to comply & Driving on the shoulder among other charges, Damulis is accused of failing to stop for police, she was taken into custody after pulling into a driveway, she faces court action in the Town of Edmeston court at a later date.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Tristan Buss of Utica following a traffic stop on February 2, 2023 in the Town of Edmeston. Buss was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, Forged Inspection among other charges, He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Edmeston Court on a later date.

Payton Gendron of Conklin will be sentenced today on state charges of Murder & domestic terrorism motivated by hate, for the May 2022 mass shooting at a Buffalo Tops Supermarket that killed 10 and injured 3, all of the victims were black. Tomorrow Gendron faces an appearance in a federal courtroom, he could face the death penalty on the state charges foe the same crime.
Truth Pharm will be holding a free Narcan training at the Afton Free Library, at 105 Main Street in Afton, at 10:00 AM today The training is open to the Chenango County and surrounding communities, and will teach participants the science of substance abuse and addiction, as well as how to recognize an overdose, and how to respond to an overdose using Narcan.

State Senator Peter Oberacker announced that community libraries throughout the 51st senatorial district have been awarded a total of nearly $300,000 in public library construction grant funds. The grants are from $14 million in capital funds for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects provided in the current state budget. Locally, the Edmeston Free Library will receive over $92,000 for 3 projects, the Kinney Memorial Library in Hartwick will receive $9,000 for a roofing project, & the Sidney Memorial Public Library will receive over $32,000 to renovate the parking lot.

Fire fighters from New Berlin, Norwich North Norwich Sherburne, Edmeston Garrettsville & Mount Upton responded to a fire at the Ken Tuttle Jr. farm on Balcom road early Wednesday morning. Fire investigators believe that the fire started due to an electrical short. Livestock was removed, no injurious were reported.
The 2nd annual "Glow Run" Benefit will be held this Saturday in Bainbridge, to raise funds though a 5K walk or run, and through the sale of t-shirts, for Mindy Ives Natoli of Oxford. Cancer Survivor & Sidney native Heather Bucalos organized the event, which is free to enter; she told WCDO that there will also be tables set up with information about cancer:

The Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross and Preferred Mutual will be hosting a Home Fire Preparedness canvassing event in Norwich. American Red Cross staff and Preferred Mutual volunteers will be visiting residents on Conkey Avenue, Sheldon Street, and Canasawacta Street, installing free smoke detectors for those homes in need.
