Tomorrow is Election day, New Yorkers Statewide will be voting candidates to send to Washington, in the U.S. Senate seat currently occupied by Charles Schumer, he faces competition from Republican Joe Pinion & 3rd party candidate Diane Sare. Locally, voters in the 19th Congressional District will be choosing between a Republican Mark Molinaro of Duchess County, and Democrat Josh Riley of Tompkins county. In Delaware County, there is an election for County Judge between current District Attorney John Hubbard on the Republican line & for the Democrats, Andrew Van Buren. Hubbard told WCDO News that one of the changes he would like to enact, if elected, would be better communication between the County & Local Courts:

43 year old Ray Hyer of Unadilla was arrested in Ohio after he failed to appear in n Otsego County court earlier this year for sentencing on a criminal sexual act charge. Hyer was located in Sandusky, Ohio on October 21st, he was arrested and was extradited back to the Otsego County Jail, he faces additional charges on top of the original criminal sexual act conviction.
Broome County officials are investigating the death of an inmate in the Broome County Jail on Friday. 30 year-old Mitchell Lindow of Binghamton was being held on a murder charge when he was found deceased by Corrections officers conducting a head count, an autopsy was conducted Friday, no cause of death was determined.

State Police announced that 9 people were arrested & drugs were seized after search warrants were executed at Budget Inn Motel on Route 23 Southside in the town of Oneonta Thursday & Friday. Items seized included methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, crack cocaine, ecstasy, Suboxone strips & Packaging materials and scales, The investigation is on-going.
State Police issued 11,601 tickets and arrested 189 people for impaired driving during the special traffic enforcement detail over Halloween weekend. The initiative targeted speeding and impaired drivers, began on Friday, October 28, and continued through Tuesday, November 1.
the Internal Revenue Service reports that some New Yorkers may be getting a 2nd stimulus check from the IRS. More than 9 million people may qualify to receive stimulus payments and tax credits, these are people who did not file a tax return because their income was too low. the deadline to file for the additional stimulus money is November 17th.
The Houston Astros won the 2022 World Series, artifacts from the team are coming to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Among the items donated, the Bat used by Yordan Álvarez in Game 6 when he hit a go-ahead 3-run home run, a Jersey worn in Game 2 and wristbands worn in Game 6 by Astros manager Dusty Baker, a Ball thrown by Cristian Javier in Game 4 and signed by all 4 pitchers who combined on just the second World Series no-hitter.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday that 42 year old Jeremie Hoyt of Davenport, was sentenced to 25 Years in prison for Sexually Exploiting a Child, and Distributing and Possessing Child Pornography. Hoyt pleaded guilty to the charges in US District Court in April, he was also sentenced to a 30 year term of supervised release, Hoyt will also be required to register as a sex offender.
The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that 45 year old Chad Jackson of Binghamton was sentenced to 7 years in State Prison followed by 5 years of post release supervision in Broome County Court. Jackson was found guilty in May of 2nd degree Burglary for breaking into a motel room in March of 2020, and stealing property.
The latest Sienna Institute polling showed that the majority of New Yorkers approve of the student loan forgiveness plan announced by President Joe Biden. 56% of respondents supported the plan while 33% opposed it, also, 54% of respondents have paid off all their federal loans, while 45% still have a balance.
A Broome County Grand Jury dismissed charges against Richard Durham of Binghamton. Durham was charged with 2nd degree assault, with intent to cause serious injury to a police officer and resisting arrest. The Broome County District Attorney's office said that the Grand Jury declined to indict him, Durham only faces a charge of disorderly conduct, in connection with an 9incident with a Binghamton Police officer.
The State Health Department reports that as of today, there are a total of 3,485 confirmed monkeypox cases in New York State. 92% of the cases are in New York City, there are 2 confirmed cases in Broome County & 1 in Delaware County. Symptoms of monkeypox can include Rashes, bumps, or blisters, Flu-like symptoms, such as fever, headache, muscle aches, chills, and fatigue. These symptoms may occur before or after the rash appears, or not at all. More information is available at health.ny.gov/diseases.

The Sidney Central School District will seek voter approval on September 13th for an $8 Million dollar project, Sidney Superintendent Eben Bullock told WCDO News about the proposal.

Bullock said that the project would be paid for with State Aid & A Capital Reserve fund, with no effect to District Taxpayers. Voting will be next Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM in the Jr/Sr High School cafeteria.
In the month of August, members from Troop "C" removed 42 impaired drivers off the roadways. Six of those impaired drivers also had a child under the age of 15 in the vehicle with them. State Police will be releasing the results of their Labor Day initiative shortly.
The Broome County Office of Emergency Services is reminding drivers to stop for School busses with its flashing lights on admitting or discharging students. Busses are equipped with cameras, which activate when the stop arm extends, the Stop-Arm program began in June of last year & has already recorded 3076 violations.
The Sidney Chamber of Commerce will hold their next meeting this morning, the meeting begins at 8:00 AM at the Sidney Golf Course, members & directors are urged to attend.

New York State has started mailing out homeowner tax rebate checks earlier than originally anticipated, to almost 3 million eligible homeowners. About $2.2 billion in one-time property tax rebates for low and middle-income homeowners are being sent, New Yorkers that are eligible will automatically receive a check by early July, more information is available at tax.ny.gov.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45-year-old Henry Stellato of Hamden, after Deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute. Stellato is accused barricading himself inside & not allowing family members to leave the Hamden residence June 2nd, he was armed with a shotgun and made threats to law enforcement. Stellato put down the shotgun and exited the residence, he physically resisted being taken into custody, 1 Special Response Team member was cut by a razor blade Stellato had taped between his fingers. Stellato was charged with Menacing a Police Officer, Assault, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon & 1 count of Obstructing Governmental Administration, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail.

The SUNY Oneonta Alumni Association will host the annual Alumni Weekend This Friday through Sunday. This is the first in-person weekend since 2019, due to the pandemic, 500 alumni and friends have already registered. Activities include the Cans ‘n Clams Picnic, a nature hike, a Brooks’ Barbecue lunch, and a cornhole tournament, there will be awards ceremonies for the Athletic Hall of Fame, Alumni of Distinction, and the Alumni Association Annual Award winners. Auditors issued a report in January 2020 identifying areas of improvement related to disbursements, including payroll. In a follow-up review, auditors found the village has made progress in implementing a corrective action, with 2 out of the 3 recommendations fully implemented and the 3rd partially implemented.
Governor Kathy Hochul issued a proclamation on Saturday, June 4 to schedule special elections to fill vacancies in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 19th & 23rd Districts. The special elections will be held Tuesday, August 23, on the same day as the New York Congressional Primaries. The 19th District was vacated when Antonio Delgado accepted the position of Lieutenant Governor, replacing Brian Benjamin who was arrested on federal corruption charges, the 23rd was vacated by the resignation of Tom Reed, who was accused of sexual harassment.

Broome County District Attorney's office announced that 21 year old Brandon Carlson of Endwell pleaded guilty to vehicular assault, operating a motor vehicle while impaired causing injury, attempted criminal possession of stolen property, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle & driving while ability impaired by drugs. Carlson was arrested after he stole a pickup truck and led state police on a high-speed chase, Carlson struck another vehicle that resulted in serious physical injury to the other driver. Carlson was under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of the crash. Carlson is expected to be sentenced to 2 1.3 to 7 years on prison when sentenced in September.
More than 80 people were displaced last weekend at a Norwich, after money from the Family Enrichment that paid for them to stay in a Super 8 motel, ran out. Many of the people have mental health issues, drug addictions or are registered sex offenders, The City of Norwich & Chenango County have a short-term housing plans for those displaced, a meeting of City officials was called over the weekend to finding other temporary options for those displaced.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Steven Barrows of Sidney on burglary & Grand Larceny charges, after stopping a suspected stolen vehicle from the Town of Otego. Barrows was located driving the vehicle in the Town of Oneonta, he was taken into custody at the Super 8 Motel by Deputies and State Troopers, Barrows was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are expected.
The General Clinton Canoe Regatta will have several activities at the Park in Bainbridge on Friday Night May 27th, Regatta Chairman John Harmon told WCDO News what is scheduled:

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-year-old Andrew Kreger of Oneonta, after Deputies responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Hannaford Grocery Store in Oneonta. Kreger is accused of leaving the store with $848.35 worth of merchandise without paying, he was also found to be in possession of a small quantity of LSD. Kreger was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance, he was processed and released on an appearance ticket pending future court action.
Former Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin will have his court date next January, he is accused of using his political clout to get campaign contributions. State Police arrested 27 year old Amanda-Lynn Pedlar of Cooperstown, for Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, after Troopers were dispatched to the Oneonta Walmart after employees reported that Pedlar attempted to use a counterfeit $100 bill mixed in with actual currency. Pedlar was located at the Town House Inn and arrested, she was processed and issued an appearance ticket to the Oneonta Town Court on May 17th.

The Norwich Downtown Revitalization Initiative Local Planning Committee will be holding a meeting today from 3:30-5:30 PM in the Norwich High School Cafeteria, they will be reviewing proposed DRI projects to be potentially included in Norwich’s Strategic Investment Plan. The meeting is open to the public, with time reserved at the end for public comment. A public workshop will also be held at 6:30 PM in the Norwich High School Cafeteria, where the public is invited to learn about the proposed projects being considered for DRI funding and to participate in a session to provide feedback.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested of 31 year old Lisa Rosengrant of Hancock for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle. On May 3rd on State Highway 10 in the Town of Tompkins, Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, a traffic stop was conducted and it was learned that Rosengrant’s operating privileges were suspended. Rosengrant was also issued Tickets for Operating without a license and Speeding, she was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Tompkins Court at a later date.
On May 4th, Delaware County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to a reported domestic dispute, they arrested 57-year-old Brett Shepler of Harpersfield, for allegedly obstructing the breathing of the victim and damaging property. Deputies arrested and charged Shepler Friday with Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Mischief, he was arraigned in the Town of Harpersfield Court and released on his own recognizance & he was ordered to return at a later date.
Schenevus fire department responded to a reported brush fire shortly after 11:30 Wednesday Morning, near the intersection of State Highway 7 & Stone House Road in the Town of Maryland. Dry conditions, wind and steep terrain were contributing factors while firefighters from 18 different departments fought the blaze. An additional 8 departments were on standby. The Fire was under control at approximately 5:00 PM. Otsego County EMS reminds area residents that the statewide burn ban through May 14.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Steven Barrows of Sidney on burglary & Grand Larceny charges, after stopping a suspected stolen vehicle from the Town of Otego. Barrows was located driving the vehicle in the Town of Oneonta, he was taken into custody at the Super 8 Motel by Deputies and State Troopers, Barrows was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are expected.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-year-old Andrew Kreger of Oneonta, after Deputies responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Hannaford Grocery Store in Oneonta. Kreger is accused of leaving the store with $848.35 worth of merchandise without paying, he was also found to be in possession of a small quantity of LSD. Kreger was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance, he was processed and released on an appearance ticket pending future court action.

Norwich City Police arrested 42 year old Todd Jackson of Norwich for allegedly setting a dumpster on fire at a Norwich senior living facility in the early morning hours on Saturday, April 30th. The fire damaged the dumpster & surrounding fences, The Norwich Fire department quickly extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported. Jackson was arrested Thursday for 2nd & 3rd degree criminal mischief and 5th degree arson, he was arraigned in Norwich City Court and held on $10,000 bail.

27 year old Vincent Cavalieri was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge in Oneida County Court for injuring 2 people in a Camden Restaurant when he accidentally discharged his firearm. Cavalieri pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment, in additional to the conditional discharge, he will be resigning from the Cooperstown Police Department, he will have his pistol license suspended for a year.
The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 45 year old Chad Jackson of Binghamton, was found guilty of 2nd degree burglary, On March 28, 2020, Jackson broke into a room at the Del Motel on Upper Court Street in Kirkwood and stole items from a person inside. He is facing up to 15 years in prison and faces sentencing August 8th.

Oneonta Fire Department responded to a fire at the Motel 88 on Chestnut Street Thursday afternoon. The fire was started in an unoccupied room, 2 adjacent rooms suffered damage, it was knocked down in less than an hour, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Edmeston Central School announced that they had over 25% of the school quarantined due to COVID-19. The Edmeston District went to remote learning Thursday & will stay remote through next Friday, in-person learning will start again on Tuesday, January 18th. All after school activities and games have been postponed.
Binghamton Police are investigation the shooting of an 18 year old Binghamton High School Male Student, near the High School Thursday morning at about 11:15. The victim was taken to an area hospital, the School district implemented lockdowns at all buildings, Binghamton Police arrested a 17 year old suspect for attempted murder & criminal use of a fire arm, the investigation is ongoing.
New Yorkers will again have the chance to apply for pandemic rental aid and temporary protection from eviction. A State Supreme Court Judge issued a preliminary injunction ordering New York to reopen its application portal at otda.ny.gov, for rent relief in 3 business days. The state stopped accepting rental assistance applications in November. The ruling protects families vulnerable to eviction when New York’s statewide moratorium expires January 15th.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli is urging New Yorkers to spend the gift cards they received this holiday season in a timely fashion, if not the money could eventually get turned over to the Office of Unclaimed Funds. In the last 7 years, the amount returned to DiNapoli’s office in unused gift cards has risen sharply from $5.8 million in 2014 to $16 million in 2021. After five years of dormancy, money from unused gift cards issued by New York businesses is turned over to the Office of Unclaimed Funds as abandoned property.
New York’s Independent Redistricting Commission met January 3 to approve new maps that would shape those districts for the next 10 years, but ended the meeting with two separate proposals. The Commission sent its 2 plans to lawmakers for consideration during the 2022 session.

State Police released more details about Wednesday arrest of 29 year old Anthony Masi of Sidney, who was wanted for 1st degree Assault in Oneonta on December 30 & also charged for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Sidney Police Department spotted Masi in a stolen vehicle and attempted to stop him, he failed to comply and fled from Sidney Police and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies on State Route 8 in the town of Masonville, Troopers attempted to stop Masi, who again failed to comply, he was stopped on State Highway 17 in Hancock and was taken into custody. Masi was processed on the Stolen Property charge, was arraigned & was released & ordered to appear in Hancock Village Court at a later date; he was then turned over to troopers, was arraigned on the Assault charge & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $50,000 bail or $500,000 bond.

Over 377,000 were tested Wednesday, with 84,202 positives, for a 22.3% positivity rate. Patient Hospitalization increased by 317 to 11,184, Patients in ICU bed were up to just over 1,400 with 695 on ventilators and 130 New deaths reported by healthcare facilities from COVID.
SUNY Oneonta will host one of the state’s 10 new COVID-19 community testing sites, which opens today, in the training room of the college’s new Emergency Services Building, located at the lower end of campus, and is open to anyone in the community who is experiencing mild to moderate COVID symptoms. Appointments are required and must be scheduled in advance. Testing, which is saliva-based, is provided at no cost to individuals. The site will be open from 8:30 am to noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. The Oneonta site is scheduled to operate through the end of February. Delaware County is 1 of 6 counties in New York State chosen to receive support from the State Health Department to conduct COVID vaccination clinics. Personnel from The State and the National Guard will support the county operated clinics beginning today in Sidney at the Sidney Elks Lodge on River Street from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, as well as on Saturday & January 28th and 29th. The second clinic will be in Stamford at the Catskill Veterans Outreach Center, from 11AM-7PM, on January 14th, 15th & February 4th and 5th. Vaccinations offered include the Pfizer and Moderna 1st, 2nd, and booster shots; Pediatric Pfizer COVID Vaccines, as well as Flu shots; the event is open to the public. In the last two days Delaware County has had a surge of positive covid-19 cases with 98 new positive cases on Tuesday & 121 Positives on Wednesday, there was 1 more COVID 19 death attributed to the virus. Delaware County Public Health announced that a limited number of COVID test kits for the public, have arrived from the State, the Office of Emergency Services is distributing the allotments to town offices. Residents are asked to Contact their town clerk's office for distribution information. Firefighters from Oneonta, Franklin & other surrounding communities responded this afternoon to a fire at the Motel 88 at 340 Chestnut Street in Oneonta. The fire was under control in a little more than an hour, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

State Police took 29 year old Anthony Masi into custody Wednesday afternoon on an arrest warrant for 1st Degree Assault. The warrant stems from a serious assault that occurred in Oneonta after Masi allegedly attacked a victim with a machete-type knife at the Budget Inn on State Route 23 on December 30th, the investigation is continuing.

Moderna 1st or 2nd doses will only be available from 2:00 to 4:00 PM for walk-ins only.
