Springbrook will receive $5 million from Tom Golisano as part of a $360 million donation to over 80 nonprofit organizations. In 2010, Golisano provided funds to establish the Golisano School, which expanded services for children with autism. In 2012, the organization completed the $22.5 million Coming Home Campaign, opening the Tom Golisano Center for Autism, a state-of-the-art facility offering specialized care and support for people with autism.
23 year old Nalya Jimenez of Sidney pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court Tuesday to 1 count of Welfare Fraud, she was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge. Jimenez admitted to providing false information while applying for SNAP, she failed to report recurring income from several sources - including a full-time position that would have rendered her ineligible to receive the benefits. Jimenez improperly received $5,679 in public benefits, she has agreed to pay the entirety of $5,679 in 30 days of sentence. If she fails to pay, she could face a year in jail.
The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will have their annual dinner & Awards Ceremony starting at 5:30 pm today at the Meredith Inn at Stonewall. ACCO Brands announced to their employees last week that they will be closing their Sidney manufacturing and distribution plant late next year. Kori Reed the Director of Communication at ACCO Brands in Ohio told WCDO News that there is no firm timeline for the closure, the process will take most of next year to fully execute.
The City of Norwich Police Department announced that their phone lines and internet are down at the Police station today Wednesday, and possibly tomorrow. They hope to have the services restored as soon as possible.
The storm which hit the region Sunday & Monday has claimed the lives of 4 New Yorkers so far. State Police said that an elderly woman in Catskill had her vehicle submerged in flood waters Monday, & she could not be reached by first responders due to the raging flood waters.

Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 5.1% in November compared to the same month in 2022, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Overall, local collections totaled $1.81 billion, up $88.6 million compared to the same time last year. County and city collections outside of New York City totaled $887 million, an increase of 4.4%, 55 out of 57 counties experienced year-over-year increases.

New York State has started mailing out homeowner tax rebate checks earlier than originally anticipated, to almost 3 million eligible homeowners. About $2.2 billion in one-time property tax rebates for low and middle-income homeowners are being sent, New Yorkers that are eligible will automatically receive a check by early July, more information is available at tax.ny.gov.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced a follow up to an audit of the Village of Delhi. Auditors issued a report in January 2020 identifying areas of improvement related to disbursements, including payroll. In a follow-up review, auditors found the village has made progress in implementing a corrective action, with 2 out of the 3 recommendations fully implemented and the 3rd partially implemented.
Governor Kathy Hochul issued a proclamation on Saturday, June 4 to schedule special elections to fill vacancies in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 19th & 23rd Districts. The special elections will be held Tuesday, August 23, on the same day as the New York Congressional Primaries. The 19th District was vacated when Antonio Delgado accepted the position of Lieutenant Governor, replacing Brian Benjamin who was arrested on federal corruption charges, the 23rd was vacated by the resignation of Tom Reed, who was accused of sexual harassment.

Yesterday was Election Day, The Delaware County Board of Elections did not announce a winner for the Sidney Town Supervisor’s race, between write-in candidates Eric Wilson & Kevin Greene, Officials told WCDO News it will take days or maybe even weeks to count & certify all of the write in votes across all 19 towns from this year's elections, there were 552 write in Votes Tuesday in Sidney Town Supervisors race. The winners for the Sidney Town board were Frank Selleck & Bill Heath, in the Town of Meredith, Town Council winners were John Janiszewski & David Briggs, the Town of Franklin Board seats go to Garret Sitts & Heather Ross, the town of Middletown Supervisor Will be Patrick Davis, the Town of Tompkins Clerk was Michelle Phoenix, in the Town Of Delhi, the supervisor will be Mark Tuttle, the Town Council winners were Margaret Baldwin & Matthew Kryston & the Walton Town Supervisor will be Joseph Cetta. In Chenango County, Sheriff Ernest Cutting was re-elected, The County Clerk winner is Brian Wessels, & the winners for the Norwich City Council are Fred Gee, William Loomis, Tom Revoir & Barry Christopherson. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 21 year old Timothy Reed of Johnson City for DWI following a personal injury motor vehicle accident on County Highway 23 in the Town of Walton. Deputies responded at about 2:30 AM on May 30th, to a 911 report of a motor vehicle accident on County Highway 23, near the intersection of Woodlawn Road, Reed was identified as the driver of the vehicle & charged, he faces court action at a later date.

Binghamton police have identified the body found Sunday along the Susquehanna River, as 72-year-old Susan Wayman of Binghamton & formerly from Sidney. Wayman was reported missing about a month ago, the death has been ruled non-criminal; Wayman was identified following an autopsy, she graduated froom Sidney High School in 1965.

Delhi Police stopped a motor vehicle for speeding Saturday on Meredith Street, Police discovered that the occupants of the vehicle were in possession of marihuana, counterfeit money and suspected stolen property. Arrested were 20-year-old Maleik Garland of Queens, 22-year-old Chadwade Chambers, 26-year-old Michael Stevens Jr. & 22-year-old Taijih Bryant, all of Brooklyn, all 4 were arraigned, Garland was being held in the Delaware County jail pending future court action, the others were released on appearance tickets.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s department is investigating the death of a man found in a barn near Emmons that Oneonta Fire fighters responded to Monday night. The unidentified man was found in a barn at 130 Riverstone Road, where a fully-involved barn fire was reported at about 11:20 pm Monday Night. Firefighters from Schenevus, Milford and Pindars Corners assisted the Oneonta Fire department. An autopsy has been ordered & the investigation is ongoing, and Susquehanna SPCA took a dog and four horses to the shelter from the property.

Governor Cuomo today announced that up to $5 million in 2nd round census funding will be made available to nonprofits that are participating in the State Complete Count Census campaign. The funding will help fund nonprofits in their efforts to reach at-risk and hard-to-count communities and ensure they are counted during the 2020 Census. Applications may be submitted for a 30 day period that ends on March 26; nonprofits can apply for pre-qualification ny.gov/2020-census.

State Police arrested 24 year old Demario Reed of Guilford for DWI with a reported B.A.C of .17%. Troopers were dispatched to a one car crash into a guiderail on State Highway 7 in the town of Otego, where Reed was arrested; he was released and will appear in the town of Otego Court on June 21st.

Last year, billions of gallons of untreated sewage and storm water impacted more than 200 waterways in New York due to antiquated and overwhelmed sewer systems, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The report details the problems with combined sewer overflows, which commingle the water from rain and snow melt with the wastewater in combined sewer systems. There are 46 communities in New York responsible for 807 outfalls where excess untreated or partially treated wastewater is discharged from pipes directly to rivers, streams, estuaries and coastal waters when their systems are overwhelmed. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a reported theft of a road sign in the Town of Delhi that led to the recovery of numerous highway signs & Coldwell Banker/Timberland Properties real estate signs. Deputies reported that they recovered more than 30 signs and charged 18 year old Russell Storey of Andes, 18 year old Dylan Reed of Margaretville, NY, and an unidentified 17 year old Roxbury male with Grand Larceny & Criminal Mischief & they also charged 20 year old Darian Scudder of Halcottsville with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. All 4 suspects were issued appearance tickets for Town of Middletown Court at a later date.

The Ottawa Senators have announced their American Hockey League development team will be moving from Binghamton to Belleville, Ontario Canada beginning in the 2017-18 season. State Police have announced that name of the person killed in an accident in Cortland County last week. 61-year-old Ronald Reed of Cortland crossed into the opposing lane with his vehicle, he struck a tractor-trailer driven by 48-year-old Michael Gross of Norwich. Reed was declared dead at the scene, Gross was transported to Upstate Medical in Syracuse for non-life threatening injuries.
Governor Cuomo today signed legislation allowing New Yorkers to be buried with their pets at not-for-profit cemeteries. The bill will allow humans to be buried with their cremated pet with the cemetery’s written consent. Cemeteries will also be required to place all payments for the pet internment in its permanent maintenance fund and provide customers with a list of charges pertaining to the burial of the pet. This legislation will not apply to cemeteries owned or operated by religious associations or societies.

State  Troopers arrested 34-year-old Shaun Reed of Endicott, for Criminal Mischief, Disorderly Conduct and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. Reed is accused of urinating on his roommate’s laptop and damaging it, during the investigation, Reed was found to be in possession of marihuana. Reed was arraigned in the Town of Union Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail.
New York State’s short-term fiscal outlook has improved, but long-term structural balance remains a challenge, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.  DiNapoli  said that  the  state's 5-year fiscal outlook might have budget gaps of $2 billion next fiscal year and $2.9 billion in the two subsequent years, budget gaps could be as high as $6 billion if the state's revenue and spending projections aren't met.
Delaware County Deputies investigated an ATV accident on Dryden Road in the Town of Tompkins Monday.  18-year-old Antonio Ranacelli of Walton was operating an ATV when he left the roadway to enter a trail into the woods.  The ATV rolled over throwing Ranacelli from the ATV.  He was transported to Albany Medical Center by Life Net helicopter with life threatening injuries and was in serious but stable condition later on in the evening.  The investigation is still on going.
