total number of Coronavirus cases in New York State jumped up by another 5700
since Sunday, bringing the total above 20,800.
Governor Cuomo will sign an executive order to mandate that hospitals
increase capacity by 50%, and he is still asking the federal Government to
invoke a wartime law to mandate that companies make needed healthcare items
like masks, scrubs & ventilators, to stop the bidding war between the
states that are trying to acquire these items:

Tomorrow,
testing will begin on anti-malaria drugs to see if they can help lower the
number of Coronavirus cases across the state.
Otsego
County Health Department announced that they have had their first positive
Coronavirus test. The individual was in
close contact with another person who had tested positive in another county,
that person is quarantined & close contacts have been notified.
The New
York State Public High School Athletic Association announced today that they
are officially cancelling the 2020 winter state championships. The sports that
were still left to play were boys and girls basketball, bowling and ice hockey.
Plans are being developed to honor and formally recognize the students and
teams who qualified to participate in these championship events. The status of
the spring state championships will be determined on or prior to Monday, April
27th.
The New
York State Academy of Family Physicians has released a new statement linking
Tobacco use and Covid-19. New Research
indicates that Patients who use tobacco are 14 times more likely to have
Covid-19 progression; they support the total ban for Tobacco products due to
the coronavirus pandemic. Those thinking
about quitting can call the Smokers' Quitline at 1-866-697-8487
Delaware
County Board of Supervisors Chairperson Tina Mole is asking people from outside
of the county, to not visit here at this time.
Mole also reminded residents that Congregations of more than 50 persons
are a direct violation of the Governor's Executive Order & it could quickly
overwhelm the County healthcare system if there is a large influx of
coronavirus cases.
New
York State put out a call for retired healthcare professionals to enlist in the
state's Coronavirus response & they also called on qualified medical &
nursing school students to enlist.

Donald Trump has approved a major disaster declaration for New York due to the
coronavirus outbreak. The FEMA announced
federal disaster assistance is available to New York to supplement coronavirus
recovery efforts. The move makes federal
crisis counseling funds available to affected individuals in all areas of the
state.
Delaware
County received 2 new positive reports Saturday, 1 positive case do not reside
in Delaware County; the case was transferred to New York City Health
Department. Currently, Delaware County has 2 confirmed positive cases of
COVID-19, they are unrelated. Delaware County Public Health Services in
partnership with the New York State Department of Health, local hospitals and
healthcare providers is actively investigating these cases and providing
guidance on reducing the spread (i.e., quarantine, cleaning and other recommendations)
as appropriate.
Broome
County Executive Jason Garnar announced Saturday that the 1st person in Broome
County has died from the coronavirus in Lourdes Hospital. The individual was a
new case in addition to those 2 previously announced late last week; the Broome
County Health Department is trying to locate all those who came in contact with
the deceased for testing & possible quarantine.
The
Bainbridge Guilford Central School district announced that 1 member of their
staff has tested positive for the Coronavirus, they do not believe that there
was any contact at the school & there should be no risk to staff or
students at this time. The investigation
is ongoing.
The
Delaware County Clerk has announced that All Department of Motor Vehicles
Offices will be closed as of Monday March 23, 2020 until further notice. This is in compliance with the Executive
Order of Governor Cuomo on March 20, 2020.
This order supersedes the previous posting of reduced hours for
Department of Motor Vehicle Offices in Delaware County.

Cuomo announced that those who run a New York State business that collects
sales tax, that were supposed to file Quarterly tax return on Friday, will not be penalized if they didn't pay, due
to the COVID-19 crisis, which led to layoffs, & business closures.
Delaware
County officials announced that due to the Coronavirus situation, they will not
be requiring businesses to pay for occupancy tax at this time.
There
will be an emergency Red Cross Blood Drive at the Sidney Fireman's Training
Center on River Street in Sidney Today, from 10:00 Am to 3:00 PM.
The
Sidney Village Board will meet Monday at 7:00 PM; the meeting is closed to the
public but will be streamed live on Facebook.

The New York Lottery today announced there were multiple
top-prize winning tickets sold for the Feb 9 TAKE-5 drawing. The tickets were
sold in Oneonta, Jamaica Queens, & Tonawanda. The Oneonta tickets were sold at the
Mirabito's at 167 Oneida Street, which sold 1 prize winning ticket worth
$17,859.50. Take 5 numbers are drawn
every evening at 11:21 PM, winning tickets at all prize levels may be cashed up
to one year from the date of the drawing.
22 year old Brandon Clark pleaded Guilty today in Oneida
County Court for the murder of 17-year-old Bianca Devins of Utica. Clark pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree murder, he
admitted to stabbing and killing Devins on July 14 in Utica and posting photos
of her body on social media. Clark faces 25 years to life in prison when he is
sentenced later this year.
2 proposals have been forwarded in the State Senate
regarding changes to the Daylight Savings Time system. State Senator Jim Seward introduced a bill
that would create a task force to study the impact and effects of eliminating
Daylight Saving Time in New York, while State Senator James Skoufis of the 39th
Senate District introduced a bill that would move the state to Atlantic
Standard Time, eliminating the need to turn clocks ahead or back. Both bills would have to still be passed by
the State Assembly and State Senate before being delivered to Governor Andrew
Cuomo for him to either veto or approve.
Governor Cuomo proposed to put together a task force to
study the issue of bringing High Speed rail to the state. The first high-speed rail system began
operations in Japan in 1964, with the famous “bullet train.” High speed rail is also prevalent across
China & throughout Europe, in the US, the closest to a high speed rail line
is the Acela Express, running between New York City and Washington D.C. & reaches
a top speed of 150mph, but averages only 66 miles per hour.
Attorney General Letitia James today filed a lawsuit against
the Trump Administration over a new federal policy that prohibits New Yorkers
from enrolling or reenrolling in the federal government's Trusted Traveler
Programs. The suit against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security & the
U.S. Customs and Border Protection argues that the policy change was made as a
result of an arbitrary process that poses a threat to New Yorkers' safety and
the state's economy. Economists have
estimated that border delays on the U.S./Canada border have already cost
American businesses billions of dollars & resulted in jobs loss, especially
in Western New York, where New Yorkers seeking to commute across the border
into Canada & back has been severely hampered by the Trump policy.
Lawmakers continue to work on a variety of issues in Albany,

instances of people leaving court after being freed on only an appearance
ticket, and immediately committing a crime, something that would not have
happened last year. In Delaware County,
a suspected MS-13 Gang member was released from the County Jail, Stole a County
employee's vehicle in the parking lot & was arrested in Stamford about 30
minutes later.
Fire destroyed a mobile home at 2571 Colesville Road in
Harpursville Friday night. Firefighters
responded to the 6:30 PM call & the structure was full involved, no one was
home when the fire broke out, the cause of the blaze remains under
investigation.
Samples from 22 New Yorkers have been sent to the CDC, so
far 16 have come back negative for the corona virus, 6 were pending, and there
are still no confirmed cases of the coronavirus in New York State. The State Health Department said that the
number of flu cases continues to rise, Last week 1,889 New Yorkers were
hospitalized with lab-confirmed influenza; there have been 13,460 flu-related
hospitalizations. Last week, 17,231
laboratory-confirmed flu cases were reported to the State Department of Health,
a 15% increase from the week before.
There have been a total of 89,597 lab-confirmed cases in New York State
this season, with 3 flu-associated pediatric deaths.
Spectrum announced that their service has been restored to
the entire Northeast. Spectrum officials
said a damaged fiber optic cable is what caused the outage, which affected
service in Upstate New York, Maine and New Hampshire. Frontier, Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T were
also affected.

Libous is currently the Vice President of Wireless Construction Solutions, He also serves as a board member of the Southern Tier Lyme Support Group. The 122nd Assembly district includes residents in Broome, Chenango, Delaware and Otsego County’s

Matviak said that residents in each village should call their Village Clerk's office to get their individual village's email requirement, the email information that residents will submit will not be used for other purposes, a test run will go out this Thursday and the email blasts will go out every Thursday starting February 6th.
Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 46 year old Matthew Rolley of Norwich following an investigation into a 911 hang-up call of a man with a gun at a residence in the Town of Norwich. Rolley is accused of displaying a firearm in front of 3 people; one of victims was under the age of 17. Rolley was arrested, arraigned and released on his own recognizance. An order of protection was issued on behalf of the child involved; Rolley is scheduled to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
The New York Association of Counties announced that County Officials will convene in Albany for the next 3 days for Legislative Conferences at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center. Workshops at the conference will cover a range of issues including drinking water safety, criminal justice reform, the opioid epidemic, early intervention, health insurance, the growing hemp economy, and more than a dozen more.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 51 year old William Macy of Bainbridge on 1 count of DWI, following a traffic stop on Sunset Avenue in the Village of Sidney. Macy was also charged with improper right turn at intersection, and moving from a lane unsafely. Macy was released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to re-appear in the Village of Sidney Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 22 year old Joseph Bifaro of Walton on an Arrest Warrant issued by the Town of Walton Court for Criminal Contempt and Harassment. Bifaro is accused of disorderly behavior during a court session at the Hamden Town Court, he was arraigned in the Village of Walton Court and released on his own recognizance, and he will appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 22 year old Joseph Bifaro of Walton on an Arrest Warrant issued by the Town of Walton Court for Criminal Contempt and Harassment. Bifaro is accused of disorderly behavior during a court session at the Hamden Town Court, he was arraigned in the Village of Walton Court and released on his own recognizance, and he will appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

Police in Troy have released the names of the 4 victims in a quadruple homicide in a basement apartment. Police reported that the bodies of 5-year-old Shanise Myers, 11-year-old Jeremiah Myers, their mother 36 year old Shanta Myers and 22 year old Brandi Mells were found dead Tuesday afternoon, Police are trying to determine when the murders occurred and who committed the murders. Troy Police are receiving assistance from the State Police.

Governor Cuomo announced a new statewide initiative to examine cancer patterns and the potential causes of cancer in 4 regions across the state that have a higher incidence of certain cancers. The Department of Health will be reviewing cancer data, potential demographic and occupational factors, and will consult with the DEC on environmental factors contributing to the cancer clusters.
New York State today filed a notice of intent to sue the Environmental Protection Agency for violating the federal Clean Air Act by failing to curb ground-level ozone pollution that blows into New York from upwind states. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said that at least 1 in 3 New Yorkers breathe air with unhealthy levels of smog pollution. The EPA's own studies demonstrate that pollution from states upwind of New York contributes substantially to the state's dangerous smog problem.
The Oneonta Police Department is asking the local public for assistance, following possible acts of vandalism. The Police Department announced that the bathrooms at Neahwa and Wilber Parks sustained damage within the last few days. New York residents stand to lose more than $72 billion in reported deductions for income and property taxes if proposals to change the federal tax code are implemented, according to a report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Among the deductions the administration has targeted are those for state and local taxes, New Yorkers reported more than $72 billion in such federal deductions in 2015, including $51.7 billion for income taxes and $20.9 billion for property taxes.

State Police arrested 34 year old Michael Graziano of Oneonta, for Grand Larceny and Falsifying Business Records, after troopers were advised of a theft by an employee that had occurred at Springbrook in the Town of Milford. Graziano allegedly falsified business records to steal over $7,000 in pay; he was arraigned in the Town of Milford Court and was release on his own recognizance. His next court date is on December 12th.
State Senator Fred Akshar, & Assembly Members Donna Lupardo and Cliff Crouch will hold a public Town Hall Meeting today, to discuss the ongoing repurposing of the Broome Developmental Center to provide substance abuse treatment to individuals struggling with addiction. Officials from the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, Syracuse Behavioral Health, Broome County Department of Social Services and the Broome County Health Department will answer questions and address concerns related to the repurposing project. The event will run from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Chenango Valley High School.

The funds are awarded through New York State Homes and Community Renewal's Affordable Home Ownership Development Program, administered by the Affordable Housing Corporation. In the Southern Tier, a $600,000 grant will go to Delaware Opportunities for the acquisition and rehabilitation of approximately 15 homes located on scattered sites in Delaware County. $290,000 grant to M-ARK Project, for the acquisition and rehabilitation of approximately 10 homes located in Delaware County.

Currently, the law requires brand label registrations to be filed by certified mail, registered mail or overnight mail. Under the bill the Alcoholic Beverage Control Law will permit brand label registration applications to be submitted electronically and filed every three years, rather than every year. The bill also permits the Authority, or third party, to charge a processing fee for electronic submissions.
Delaware County Public Health will be sponsoring a free EPA Certified Lead Renovator 8-Hr. Training Course today at the Walton Town Hall. ConTrax, LLC is conducting the class. The class is sponsored by Delaware County Public Health; it will include all course materials, manual, refreshments, lunch and certificate of completion. Delaware County Sheriff's Office Investigators have arrested 29-year-old Jason Lagano of Erin New York, on a Delaware County Grand Jury Sealed Indictment Warrant issued earlier this year as a part of a narcotics investigation. Lagano was arrested at the Susquehanna County Jail in Montrose, Pennsylvania, where he has been held as a Fugitive from Justice. Lagano is accused of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, for allegedly selling methamphetamine in the Town of Deposit earlier this year Lagano was transported back to Delaware County Tuesday, he was arraigned in Delaware County Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail pending further court action.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Department arrested 2 County residents on Drug charges. Deputies arrested Chauncey Couse of Oneonta and Nichole Conklin of Laurens, for 2 counts each of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, for allegedly selling heroin in the City of Oneonta. Couse was already being held in the Otsego County jail on a previously charge, with Couse's bail set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond, Conklin was jailed on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond, pending future court action.

The application for the Excelsior Scholarship opened on Wednesday, where SUNY students whose families make up to $125,000, can apply for tuition-free college. Students must be New York State residents, plan to attend a SUNY or CUNY 2 or 4-year college, take 30 credits per year, and graduate on time with an Associate’s Degree in 2 years or a Bachelor’s Degree in 4 years. Recipients must also plan to live in New York State equal to the length of time they received the award. Applications are available at hesc.ny.gov/excelsior; they will be accepted through Friday, July 21st. Over 3,300 students applied on the 1st day Wednesday.

Previously, a child could get married at 14 in the state if approved by the parents & a judge, that has now been raised to 17. Governor Cuomo will sign the bill as soon as it reaches his desk.
New York lawmakers held a hearing Wednesday on the effectiveness of state services for victims of human trafficking. Government officials and representatives of advocacy groups and community service providers testified Wednesday, earlier this year the Assembly passed a package of bills addressing human trafficking, those bills have not yet been addressed by the full Senate.
State Police were alerted to an alleged threat on Facebook that 2 students at Harpursville High School were going to "shoot up the school". The alleged perpetrators were 2 subjects that came into the State Police barracks in Kirkwood to report what was posted. State Police and Harpursville School District administrators determined that there was no credible threat and that the posting was done by a third party. State Police arrested a 15-year-old student and they were charged with making a terroristic threat. The student was released to the custody of their parent and will appear in Family Court at a later date.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman today announced the indictment of 12 members of a criminal theft and fencing ring in New York and 27 other states. A 41-count indictment, unsealed in New York Supreme Court today, charged the 12 alleged co-conspirators with enterprise corruption, money laundering, criminal possession of stolen property and conspiracy. During "Operation Sticky Fingers," State Police & other law enforcement agencies seized more than 5,300 stolen electronics and ink cartridges from the enterprise's alleged kingpin, Richard Rimbaugh; and from various members of his crew. millions of dollars in merchandise was stolen from Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, and other retailers, investigators also seized more than $7.7 million dollars from the defendants' homes, financial institutions, and their Amazon and Pay Pal accounts.

A fire at Munson's Building Supplies on Oneonta's East End was extinguished quickly this morning. The fire was electrical in nature and only minimal damage was reported. Fire fighters from Oneonta, Pindars Corners, Otego & Milford responded.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced that Securities industry profitability rose by 21%, while the average bonus paid to employees in New York City’s securities industry increased by 1% to $138,210. Pretax profits for the broker/dealer operations of New York Stock Exchange member firms, totaled $17.3 billion in 2016, the highest level in four years. The industry added 2,800 jobs in 2014 and 4,500 jobs in 2015.
1 person was killed & 8 people escaped from the Skylark Motel Fire in Vestal Tuesday Morning. Officials said that fire fighters were slowed down getting to the scene by the winter storm; the name of the deceased has not yet been released. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
17 year old Kyle Jaramillo of Oneonta was arrested by City police after they allegedly found drugs and stolen goods in his apartment. Jaramillo was charged with 2nd degree burglary. Grand larceny, criminal mischief, criminal possession of a controlled substance & endangering the welfare of a Minor, Police seized heroin, televisions, stereo speakers, an air rifle and sneakers that were reported stolen recently for an Oneonta residence. Female lawmakers in New York say early voting would make it easier for all New Yorkers - and particularly women - to cast a ballot. Several legislators on Monday urged Governor Cuomo and legislative leaders to include early voting and automatic voter registration in the state budget expected to be approved by April 1. Compared to other states New York has low voter turnout rates and is one of a minority of states that still doesn't allow early voting.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman today announced the indictment of 12 members of a criminal theft and fencing ring in New York and 27 other states. A 41-count indictment, unsealed in New York Supreme Court today, charged the 12 alleged co-conspirators with enterprise corruption, money laundering, criminal possession of stolen property and conspiracy. During "Operation Sticky Fingers," State Police & other law enforcement agencies seized more than 5,300 stolen electronics and ink cartridges from the enterprise's alleged kingpin, Richard Rimbaugh; and from various members of his crew. millions of dollars in merchandise was stolen from Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, and other retailers, investigators also seized more than $7.7 million dollars from the defendants' homes, financial institutions, and their Amazon and Pay Pal accounts.

A fire at Munson's Building Supplies on Oneonta's East End was extinguished quickly this morning. The fire was electrical in nature and only minimal damage was reported. Fire fighters from Oneonta, Pindars Corners, Otego & Milford responded.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced that Securities industry profitability rose by 21%, while the average bonus paid to employees in New York City’s securities industry increased by 1% to $138,210. Pretax profits for the broker/dealer operations of New York Stock Exchange member firms, totaled $17.3 billion in 2016, the highest level in four years. The industry added 2,800 jobs in 2014 and 4,500 jobs in 2015.
1 person was killed & 8 people escaped from the Skylark Motel Fire in Vestal Tuesday Morning. Officials said that fire fighters were slowed down getting to the scene by the winter storm; the name of the deceased has not yet been released. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
17 year old Kyle Jaramillo of Oneonta was arrested by City police after they allegedly found drugs and stolen goods in his apartment. Jaramillo was charged with 2nd degree burglary. Grand larceny, criminal mischief, criminal possession of a controlled substance & endangering the welfare of a Minor, Police seized heroin, televisions, stereo speakers, an air rifle and sneakers that were reported stolen recently for an Oneonta residence. Female lawmakers in New York say early voting would make it easier for all New Yorkers - and particularly women - to cast a ballot. Several legislators on Monday urged Governor Cuomo and legislative leaders to include early voting and automatic voter registration in the state budget expected to be approved by April 1. Compared to other states New York has low voter turnout rates and is one of a minority of states that still doesn't allow early voting.

On the eve of another Election, retiring congressman Richard Hanna reiterated to reporters that he is not going to run for governor of the state, after he recently declined to seek another term in Congress. Hanna and another outgoing congressman Chris Gibson have both been the topic of speculation that they would run for the Republican nomination for Governor, Gibson went as far as forming an exploratory committee & then decided to go into teaching instead, and Hanna has business concerns in the Mohawk Valley.
Governor Cuomo signed legislation that secures New York's place on the list of states that have joined National Popular Vote compact. The bill modifies legislation signed by Governor Cuomo in 2014 that added New York to an interstate agreement in which member states commit to award their electoral votes for president to the candidate that receives a majority of the national popular vote. The original legislation required that New York be removed from the compact at the end of 2018 if the agreement had not been adopted nationally, the new measure removed the expiration date and keeps New York on the list of states supporting the National Popular Vote indefinitely.
Shortly after midnight Friday, Delaware County Deputies investigated a 1 car fatal motor vehicle accident on County Highway 33 in Bloomville. A 17 year old female lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway, the vehicle continued over the embankment, rolled over and struck a tree. The driver of the vehicle died at the scene as a result of injuries suffered in the crash. There is no indication at this time that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, a blood sample was secured from the driver for toxicology analysis. The accident remains under investigation.
Last Wednesday afternoon, Oneonta Police investigated possible drug activity at 14 ½ Baker Street; Police arrested 23 year old Kwame Wilson of Utica for Criminal possession of a controlled substance & Unlawful possession of marijuana. Police recovered 23 individual packets of cocaine, $246 cash, a small quantity of marihuana, Wilson was held pending arraignment in the City of Oneonta court.
On Friday, The Broome County Sheriff’s department responded to a Motel in the town of Dickinson following a call for a medical emergency of a patient who stopped breathing an adjacent room. Deputies found 30 year old Brett Seymour unresponsive, administered Narcan, eventually EMS responded & declared that Seymour was deceased. In the room, Police found crack, cocaine, heroin; they arrested Rayshawn Thompson of Binghamton, Nicole Mills of Windsor, & Tessa Rivera of Elmira on a variety of charges. The Broome County Sheriff’s department has set up a tip line at 778-1196.

Armstrong was charged with two counts of Criminal mischief, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and attempted burglary as well as numerous lesser charges, he faces court action shortly.

19-year-old Thomas Schmiedel, of Prattsville has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and vehicular assault for allegedly driving drunk, and causing a head on collision that killed 71-year-old Elvira Vogt of Jefferson on Sunday in the town of Roxbury. Schmiedel was charged with DWI, on Monday, during the early part of the investigation into the crash on State Route 23. Vogt was pronounced dead at the scene, her passenger, 71-year-old Robert Vogt of Jefferson, suffered a broken arm and several other injuries; he was transported to Albany Medical Center. Schmiedel’s passenger, 18-year-old Tyler Hoyt of Maplecrest, was not injured. Schmiedel was arraigned at the Town of Roxbury Court and was released; he faces court action on July 1st.
The State Assembly passed legislation to name a Town of Chenango bridge after fallen State Trooper Christopher Skinner. The Assembly unanimously passed the bill, sponsored by area Assembly members Cliff Crouch & Donna Lupardo, it passed in the Senate a few days earlier. The legislation has now been sent to the governor to be signed into law. Trooper Skinner was intentionally run down while conducting a traffic stop on I-81 between Exits 6 and 7 in Chenango in May of 2014, Almond Upton of Florida is facing multiple charges for Trooper Skinners death.
State Police at Norwich arrested 22-year-old Michael Verry of Greene for 3rd degree Assault, after Troopers responded to a Chenango County 911 report of a dispute at a residence on Crestmont Drive in the Village of Greene. Verry is accused of punching a female victim in the face, causing a jaw injury. Verry was arraigned in the Village of Greene Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail in lieu of a $5,000.00 cash bail. The court issued an order of protection against him.
Governor Cuomo today unveiled the newest license plates in the I LOVE NY Adventure Custom Plates series, which will make available for motorcycles nine designs that include hunting, fishing, and parks insignia. The motorcycle class plates are available to anyone holding a valid Department of Environmental Conservation sporting License or Parks Empire Passport, & can be ordered by mail, MV 414 form, which is available online. The program provides checkbooks to low-income New Yorkers age 60 and older to purchase $20 worth of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables from local farmers' markets. In upstate communities, checks will be available for eligible seniors starting June 17 at county Agencies on Aging.

Both subjects remain in DCCF custody on the unrelated charges and will be arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court at a later time.

Governor Cuomo has tied ethics reforms for lawmakers to the budget this year, the assembly leadership is going along with the Governors reforms, the State Senate leadership might also agree in the coming days. The governor made the reforms his top priority following the arrest in February of then-Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver on federal corruption charges.
A “Protect Our Schools” demonstration will be held in Oneonta Tomorrow afternoon as part of a campaign by parents & teachers regarding state mandates on schools, excessive testing of students and the possible closing of schools or consolidating school districts. Kjersti Van Slyke-Briggs is an area parent that co-founded the "Oneonta Area for Public Education" group, she is one of the co-organizers of Thursday’s event in Oneonta & she told WCDO News that there are a list of concerns parents have in addition to the controversial common core curriculum:

Governor Cuomo today announced that nearly 300 restaurants across the state have taken the Pride of New York Pledge, almost tripling the number of restaurants actively supporting New York State agricultural products and beverages since last year. The Pledge is part of the Governor’s Taste NY initiative and was created to increase the sourcing, marketing and education of New York State grown and made products. Jim's text: A free college degree option was the topic of discussion at a parent orientation meeting held at Unatego Central School recently. The Unatego District and Tompkins Cortland Community College have teamed up & high school students will have the opportunity to take SUNY courses without cost, towards a Business Administration Associate’s Degree. A publication explaining the program is available at the DCMO BOCES website at www.learnatboces.com.
Family Planning of South Central New York announced a new service, Long Acting Reversible Contraception, is now available at their Norwich Health Center at 5 Cortland Street. An informational forum will be offered at the Health Center on Friday, from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. The public is invited to attend and light refreshments will be served.
