Church was re-sentenced in Delaware County Court to 2.5 years in state prison to be followed by 1 year of post release supervision. Otsego County School Districts Plastic Film Recycling challenge ends today, after Otsego County Students collected & turned in plastics like grocery bags, bread bags & bubble wrap to get them out of the waste stream, Kyle King of the Otsego County Solid waste Department explains:

On February 14th, the Broome County SIU executed a search warrant at Crown Fried Chicken, in Endicott, they seized 3,204 pack of Untaxed Cigarettes, $1,936 in US Currency, 69 year old Jamshaid Ahmad of Endicott was charged with Criminal Tax Fraud, Possession/Transport for Sale of Unstamped/ Unlawfully Stamped Cigarettes, the seized cigarettes represent approximately $17,141.40 in evaded New York State taxes.

The FDA and CDC have approved Pfizer’s child-sized doses of the vaccine, which were found to be 90.7% effective against virus, There is a consent form that parents must fill out before their children can get vaccinated, at coronavirus.health.ny.gov. Governor Cuomo announced that Hospitalizations from COVID 19 have dropped to 576, the lowest number since March 17th. The number of patients on respirators has dropped to 70; there were 5 deaths from the virus Thursday statewide, the death toll is up to 25,150. 644 people tested positive Thursday, about .9% of all tested, bringing the Statewide Total to 415,014.

The State Health Department reports that the total number of Coronavirus cases is 391,220 after 805 new positive tests on Thursday, there were 14 deaths attributed to the virus, the state death toll since March is 24,814. The number of hospitalizations dropped below 1,000 Wednesday, for the first time since March 18, the highest total was 18,825 hospitalizations on April 12th.
The death of 37-year-old Casie Weese of Glen Aubrey back in March has been ruled accidental. Weese died of hypothermia, there was no trauma or sexual assault, Weese went missing March 1st, after she left her husband behind after their vehicle suffered a flat tire, she was found March 5th in a wooded area near I-86 & State route 434 near the Broome-Tioga County line.

the epicenter of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Cuomo said that the number of positive cases statewide is 66,497, the

number of ICU Beds occupied is 2352, & the number discharged from hospitals
is now 4202. The statistics also showed

4.7 million people, reflecting an increase of more than 435,000 people from
2018. NY State of Health focused
increased marketing and outreach efforts in areas with higher uninsured rates,
which contributed to enrollment gains across all program types. Counties with
the Highest Percentage Increase in Combined Qualified Health Plan &
Essential Plan Enrollment between 2018 and 2019 included Broome County with a
12% increase & Delaware County with a 10% increase.

Department of Labor has been awarded up to $5.59 million in federal grants to
help provide new skills to workers, including new entrants to the workforce,
who have been or are being impacted by the opioid crisis. Additionally, the funds
will be used for workforce development in professions that address or prevent
problems related to opioids across the state, such as addiction treatment
service providers, pain management and therapy service providers, and mental
health treatment providers. The initiative complements ongoing efforts
by the state Health Department and the Office of Alcoholism and Substance
Abuse services to train peers in recovery to work with hospitals, assisting individuals
with substance use disorder in accessing treatment.

will be used for workforce development in professions that address or prevent
problems related to opioids across the state, such as addiction treatment
service providers, pain management and therapy service providers, and mental
health treatment providers. The initiative complements ongoing efforts
by the state Health Department and the Office of Alcoholism and Substance
Abuse services to train peers in recovery to work with hospitals, assisting individuals
with substance use disorder in accessing treatment.

right and moving from a lane unsafely, after a traffic stop in the Town of
Middletown. Lor was released & will
appear in the Town of Middletown Court at a later date.

Oneonta, tomorrow from 11:00 am to 2:00 PM.

Otsego County Sheriff's department arrested 36 year old Ryan Biggs of Gloversville following an accident in Worcester Sunday. Biggs is accused of driving mentally & physically disabled people in an ARC vehicle while intoxicated, he was charged with DWI & endangering the welfare of an incompetent or disable person, he was released & faces court action at a later date.
A Cortland man was found guilty by an Otsego County Jury for selling heroin & cocaine in the city of Oneonta recently. 34 year old Jason Chase was found guilty after the jury deliberated for about 40 minute, he was returned to the Otsego County Jail pending sentencing on August 3rd on 2 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
State Police at Oneonta arrested 28 year old Kevin Matthews of Worcester for Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle. Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle that was taken without the owner’s permission, Matthews allegedly took the vehicle on July 4th, another vehicle in that driveway sustained damage. Troopers observed the vehicle on I-88 in Richmondville, they arrested Matthews for Driving while Ability Impaired by Drugs and other charges. Matthews was later turned over to troopers at SP Oneonta where he was arrested for Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle. He was arraigned in the Decatur Town Court and remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $1000 cash bail or $2500 bond.
State Senator Jim Seward joined officials from local domestic violence prevention programs Monday to announce state grants totaling $45,000 to help support key community services. The Arc Otsego is accepting artwork submissions for its 14th Annual Voice event, which will be held July 27th through August 10th in the Fine Arts Building at SUNY Oneonta. Oneonta Police Detectives arrested a 52- year-old man from New Rochelle Thursday afternoon following a 2-month investigation into narcotics trafficking. Search warrants were obtained for the suspect's person and for an 85 Ford Avenue. The suspect was transported to the City's Public Safety Building. A 2nd warrant was served that permitted officers to conduct a body search, the suspect became combative, officers observed that the suspect placed a substance believed to be cocaine in his mouth, which was swallowed after a struggle with 4 officers. EMT’s responded, the suspect was taken to Fox Hospital in Oneonta, where he died at 7:40 PM. The body was taken to Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton for an autopsy and toxicology screening. The suspect's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The incident remains under investigation by the Oneonta Police Department under the supervision of the Otsego County District Attorney's Office.

Oneonta Police conducted 3 no-knock search warrants this past weekend, resulting in the arrests of 2 men on drug charges. Police seized crack cocaine, marijuana, packets of heroin & cash, 34 year old Terrell Ford of Wilson North Carolina was charged with 2 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, 25-year-old Damien Ortiz of Queens, was charged with 2 counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance. Delaware County Sheriff’s Department Investigators and County Probation Officers searched a residence in the Town of Davenport in June, which resulted in the seizure of Marijuana, allegedly belonging to 20-year-old Rumael Soler, who was not home at the time. The Town of Davenport Court issued an Arrest Warrant for Soler, who was arrested Tuesday when he appeared in town of Davenport Court on an unrelated matter. Soler was charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana, & Harassment in connection with a separate incident. Soler was arraigned in the Town of Davenport Court on both charges, and released on his own recognizance, to re-appear in that Court at a later time.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office Investigators have arrested 29-year-old Jason Lagano of Erin New York, on a Delaware County Grand Jury Sealed Indictment Warrant issued earlier this year as a part of a narcotics investigation. Lagano was arrested at the Susquehanna County Jail in Montrose, Pennsylvania, where he has been held as a Fugitive from Justice. Couse was already being held in the Otsego County jail on a previously charge, with Couse's bail set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond, Conklin was jailed on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond, pending future court action.

The State DOT will hold a public open house meeting on Thursday, March 23 to discuss plans to replace a bridge on State Route 7 in the village of Afton.
