39 year old Taylor Church of Bainbridge, admitted to violating the terms and conditions of her probation sentence, and was expelled from the Delaware County Adult Treatment Court Program. Church was re-sentenced in Delaware County Court to 2.5 years in state prison to be followed by 1 year of post release supervision. Church pleaded guilty last October to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, State Police arrested Church in January of 2025, a search uncovered heroin, cocaine a scale & ammunition.

Otsego County School Districts Plastic Film Recycling challenge ends today, after Otsego County Students collected & turned in plastics like grocery bags, bread bags & bubble wrap to get them out of the waste stream, Kyle King of the Otsego County Solid waste Department explains:

King said that in recent years, the challenge has successfully recycled tons of the plastic film items, with the winning district getting the ice cream event each year of the contest.

The Arc Otsego has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Otsego County to establish its Essential Needs Fund. The grant will allow The Arc Otsego to distribute direct financial support for urgent housing-related expenses, including rent and utility bills. Assistance will be provided on a case-by-case basis following a short application process, ensuring support is fair, timely, and tailored to each individual’s situation.

The 11th Annual Hot Cocoa 5k Run and 1k Walk, Run, and Roll will take place on Sunday, in Neahwa Park in Oneonta. The 1k will start at 9:30am, and the 5k at 10:15am. Otsego County Area Candidates for public office will participate in a debate this evening at the Foothills Performing Arts Center on Market Street in Oneonta. Organizers for the annual Binghamton St. Patrick’s Day parade announced that it will be held on Saturday March 1st , it will start at 1:30 pm. at Fayette and Court Streets, a number of organizations have signed up to participate this year.

Arc Otsego is partnering with the City of Oneonta Sustainability Committee to host the 2nd Repair Café on Saturday, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at 77 Main Street, Oneonta. The initiative is aimed at reducing landfill waste by encouraging the repair of items such as electronics, furniture, jewelry and clothing, potentially preventing hundreds of pounds of waste from entering the waste stream. An Endicott man is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation into illegal cigarette sales in the Village of Endicott by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force. On February 14th, the Broome County SIU executed a search warrant at Crown Fried Chicken, in Endicott, they seized 3,204 pack of Untaxed Cigarettes, $1,936 in US Currency, 69 year old Jamshaid Ahmad of Endicott was charged with Criminal Tax Fraud, Possession/Transport for Sale of Unstamped/ Unlawfully Stamped Cigarettes, the seized cigarettes represent approximately $17,141.40 in evaded New York State taxes.

The State Department of Health issued guidance today for vaccinating children ages 5 to 11 against COVID 19. The FDA and CDC have approved Pfizer’s child-sized doses of the vaccine, which were found to be 90.7% effective against virus, There is a consent form that parents must fill out before their children can get vaccinated, at coronavirus.health.ny.gov. Otsego County Department of Health reported that New cases of COVID-19 continue to be high in Otsego County. Since September 1st there have been 408 cases of COVID reported, last week there were 3 deaths related to COVID-19. The most recent deaths occurred in individuals ages 42-78. 94% of all deaths related to COVID are in unvaccinated individuals. Vaccination clinic sites can be found at otsegocounty.com or covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov, many pharmacies are offering vaccinations.

The ARC of Delaware County is seeking to fill a variety of positions, and will be holding job fairs in the coming weeks.  Job Fairs will be held on July 9th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Saturday July 10th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Friday July 23rd from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday July 24th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at their location on State Highway 10 in Walton.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 16 new COVID cases reported Wednesday, they report 91 active cases, 11 are hospitalized, they've had 1340 total confirmed cases with 8 deaths, and 766 cases are linked to SUNY Oneonta & 71 confirmed cases linked to Hartwick College.

Broome County Health Department reported 3 more deaths from COVID 19 Wednesday, they have had 134 deaths since March; they've had 5395 cases so far, with 4693 recoveries and over 4000 are being monitored by the department.

The State Health Department tested over 158,000 people Saturday, with more than 6700 positive tests reported.  Patient Hospitalization is up to 3,372, the Number in an ICU bed is up to 667 & those on Ventilators are at 326.  There were 55 Deaths; the Total number of Deaths statewide is 26,690.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 27 cases reported Thursday & Friday & 22 cases reported over the weekend, past 2 days.  Otsego County is up to 1295 total confirmed cases with 97 active cases,  4 are hospitalized there have been 8 deaths,  764 cases are linked to SUNY Oneonta & 71 confirmed cases linked to Hartwick College

Governor Cuomo announced that Hospitalizations from COVID 19 have dropped to 576, the lowest number since March 17th.  The number of patients on respirators has dropped to 70; there were 5 deaths from the virus Thursday statewide, the death toll is up to 25,150. 644 people tested positive Thursday, about .9% of all tested, bringing the Statewide Total to 415,014.

Chenango County Public Health announced that they have had 206 total confirmed cases of COVID 19 since March, with 162 Active Quarantines, 1 current Hospitalization, 7 deaths, and over 16,200 Tests have been performed.

The Arc Otsego presented Golden Artist Colors as 1 of the statewide recipients of The Arc New York 2020 Employer Recognition Award. Golden Artist Colors produces paints used by artists worldwide, there are 2 individuals who have intellectual or other developmental disabilities currently employed, and Golden Artists have been employing individuals with disabilities from The Arc Otsego since 2000.

Otsego County Department of Health announced that they will have a testing site today from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, at the Exeter Town Barn on State Highway 28 in Schuyler Lake.  The testing site is limited to people who are NOT sick, but want to be tested for the Coronavirus, The testing will be by a nasal swab.  The testing site will be drive up only, individuals are required to stay in their vehicle & wear a face mask.  Pre-Registration is required at 547-4279.

The State Health Department reports that the total number of Coronavirus cases is 391,220 after 805 new positive tests on Thursday, there were 14 deaths attributed to the virus, the state death toll since March is 24,814. The number of hospitalizations dropped below 1,000 Wednesday, for the first time since March 18, the highest total was 18,825 hospitalizations on April 12th.

The death of 37-year-old Casie Weese of Glen Aubrey back in March has been ruled accidental.  Weese died of hypothermia, there was no trauma or sexual assault, Weese went missing March 1st, after she left her husband behind after their vehicle suffered a flat tire, she was found March 5th in a wooded area near I-86 & State route 434 near the Broome-Tioga County line.

The Arc Otsego has been awarded $60,000 in grants from the Trustee Management Board of NYSARC Trust Services to support The Arc Otsego’s guardianship* and recreation programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who would not otherwise have a legal guardian or advocate. Otsego County Department of Health reported one new positive COVID 19 test Thursday, bringing their total to 75 confirmed cases.  Currently there are no hospitalizations, 67 have recovered, there were 5 deaths, 16 people are quarantined, and 5,158 tests were performed.

Governor Cuomo welcomed the Floating Naval Hospital to New
York City today, giving the city added help for its beleaguered Hospitals at
the epicenter of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Cuomo said that the number of positive cases statewide is 66,497, the
number of deaths jumped to 1,218, the number Hospitalized is now over 9500, the
number of ICU Beds occupied is 2352, & the number discharged from hospitals
is now 4202.  The statistics also showed
that the rate of increase is slowing down:

Governor Cuomo also said that too many people are treating
the "Stay At Home" mandate like it was optional:

Local officials have expressed concern that too many people
are leaving the most affected areas and are coming to Otsego & Delaware
Counties to wait it out, and they could be driving up the local numbers &
threatening the local population and healthcare systems.

Chenango County Health Department announced this morning that they have 14 positive cases of the Coronavirus, with 10 more positives over the weekend.  Otsego County also had 14 Positives with 1 death, Delaware County Had 12; Broome County has 29, with 3 deaths.

The Community Foundation for
South Central New York has released $110,000 in grants to organizations
providing services during the COVID-19 Crisis in the region. The Friends of Recovery
Delaware/Otsego will receive $5,000, the Food Bank of the Southern Tier will
get $7,500 for meal delivery programs, Delaware Opportunities receives $15,000
for meal delivery programs, Chenango United Way gets $15,000 for their
community response, Opportunities for Otsego receives $15,000 for their
community response to COVID-19, & ARC of Delaware County receives $2,500
for the Walton Food Pantry.  More

Governor Cuomo stated yesterday that there were 59,573 cases
of the Corona Virus in the State, with 965 deaths, over 8500 are in Hospitals,
2037 were in ICU Beds, & 3572 have been discharged.   The Governor talked about the heroism of all

Governor Cuomo announced all New York on Pause functions
will be extended for the next 2 weeks; the state nonessential workforce will
continue to work from home for an additional two weeks through April 15th.
Executive Orders regarding the closing of restaurants and bars, gyms, movie
theaters, casinos; local government workforces, school districts; malls, public
amusement facilities; barber shops & salons are also extended until April
15th.

The Otsego County Coronavirus Task Force is asking
Individuals who are traveling to Otsego County from the New York City and other
areas hard hit by COVID-19, to notify the Otsego County Department of Health
upon their arrival by phone and self-isolate for 14 days. During the 14-day
period, you should monitor all household members for signs and symptoms of
COVID-19. These include fever, cough and shortness of breath.

The Otsego County Department of Solid Waste & the Arc
Otsego ReUse Center announced the opening of a polystyrene recycling facility
now available to county residents.  The
facility is located at the ReUse Center, 23 Duane Street in Oneonta.  Material must be delivered in a clear plastic

The Center for Agricultural Development and Entrepreneurship
and SUNY Cobleskill will offer a free legal workshop On Wednesday, March 6th
from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in Oneonta, for farms and food businesses on the important

NY State of Health released
county-level enrollment statistics showing that overall enrollment increased in
each of New York’s 62 counties. Total enrollment in the Marketplace is now over
4.7 million people, reflecting an increase of more than 435,000 people from
2018.  NY State of Health focused
increased marketing and outreach efforts in areas with higher uninsured rates,
which contributed to enrollment gains across all program types. Counties with
the Highest Percentage Increase in Combined Qualified Health Plan &
Essential Plan Enrollment between 2018 and 2019 included Broome County with a
12% increase & Delaware County with a 10% increase.

Governor Cuomo today announced that the New York State
Department of Labor has been awarded up to $5.59 million in federal grants to
help provide new skills to workers, including new entrants to the workforce,
who have been or are being impacted by the opioid crisis. Additionally, the funds
will be used for workforce development in professions that address or prevent
problems related to opioids across the state, such as addiction treatment
service providers, pain management and therapy service providers, and mental
health treatment providers. The initiative complements ongoing efforts
by the state Health Department and the Office of Alcoholism and Substance
Abuse services to train peers in recovery to work with hospitals, assisting individuals
with substance use disorder in accessing treatment.

Delaware County Sheriff’s
Deputies arrested 28-year-old Michael Lor of Schenectady, for DWI, failure to keep
right and moving from a lane unsafely, after a traffic stop in the Town of
Middletown.  Lor was released & will
appear in the Town of Middletown Court at a later date.

A HEALTHCARE JOB FAIR will be held at the FOXCARE Center in
Oneonta, tomorrow from 11:00 am to 2:00 PM.
Participants include Bassett Healthcare, Family Planning of South
Central NY, UHS Hospitals, The ARC of Delaware County, The ARC of Otsego
County, AO Fox Hospital, Pathfinder Village & the State Veteran’s Home in
Oxford.

Judge John Lambert ordered tenants of 195 Main Street in
Oneonta out by this afternoon, after the Owner Melania Pervu failed to meet
deadlines to get safety violations taken care of, that were established by the
City of Oneonta.  Pervu had until January
11th to comply with the city's building codes, and failed to do so, the retail
spaces on the 1st floor will be allowed to remain; Judge Lambert declared that
anyone left in the building after 4:30 this afternoon will be removed by Otsego
County Sheriff's deputies.

Otsego Express announced that Route 9 operated by The Arc
Otsego will be canceled for today.

Otsego County Sheriff's department arrested 36 year old Ryan Biggs of Gloversville following an accident in Worcester Sunday. Biggs is accused of driving mentally & physically disabled people in an ARC vehicle while intoxicated, he was charged with DWI & endangering the welfare of an incompetent or disable person, he was released & faces court action at a later date.

A Cortland man was found guilty by an Otsego County Jury for selling heroin & cocaine in the city of Oneonta recently. 34 year old Jason Chase was found guilty after the jury deliberated for about 40 minute, he was returned to the Otsego County Jail pending sentencing on August 3rd on 2 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

State Police at Oneonta arrested 28 year old Kevin Matthews of Worcester for Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle. Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle that was taken without the owner’s permission, Matthews allegedly took the vehicle on July 4th, another vehicle in that driveway sustained damage. Troopers observed the vehicle on I-88 in Richmondville, they arrested Matthews for Driving while Ability Impaired by Drugs and other charges. Matthews was later turned over to troopers at SP Oneonta where he was arrested for Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle. He was arraigned in the Decatur Town Court and remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $1000 cash bail or $2500 bond.

State Senator Jim Seward joined officials from local domestic violence prevention programs Monday to announce state grants totaling $45,000 to help support key community services. The funding awards included: Opportunities for Otsego - $15,000; Catholic Charities of Delaware, Otsego & Schoharie Counties - $15,000; Delaware Opportunities - $7,500 & Liberty Resources in Chenango County - $7,500.

The Arc Otsego is accepting artwork submissions for its 14th Annual Voice event, which will be held July 27th through August 10th in the Fine Arts Building at SUNY Oneonta. The opening reception will be held on July 27th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, anyone living in New York State who is 18 years of age or older and has an intellectual and/or other developmental disability may submit artwork for consideration. The State Department of Labor released preliminary local unemployment rates for April. The number of private sector jobs in the State was 8,155,700 while the State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.6% in April. Locally, Chenango County's unemployment rate was 5.6%, Delaware County was 6% & Otsego County was at 5.1%

55 Year Old John Morrissette of Otego was arrested by the Otsego County Sheriff's department for several charges; including felony DWI aggravated operating a motor vehicle with 0.18 percent BAC, following a traffic stop on Chestnut Street in Oneonta Sunday. NYSEG President & CEO Carl Taylor announced a $400,000 economic development grant for Binghamton University this afternoon. The latest award brings the total up to $1.2 million in funding which NYSEG has granted to the university, to help support 3 projects under the company’s economic development electric infrastructure programs. The goal is to help offset electric-related infrastructure improvements as well as to research, develop and promote energy-efficient systems.

The Arc Otsego, in partnership with Family Resource Network will be hosting a Family Forum presented by LIFEPlan CCO today from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Pm at the Holiday Inn Oneonta. The Forum will include a presentation by LIFEPlan CCO on how Medicaid Service Coordination will transition to Care Coordination on July 1st, & what individuals and families need to know about the CCO and enrollment process. 27-year-old Anderson Lee is now facing 40 counts of unlawful surveillance, for allegedly spying on co-workers at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown with hidden cameras. Lee is being held in the Otsego County Jail on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond pending future court action.

Oneonta Police Detectives arrested a 52- year-old man from New Rochelle Thursday afternoon following a 2-month investigation into narcotics trafficking. Search warrants were obtained for the suspect's person and for an 85 Ford Avenue. The suspect was transported to the City's Public Safety Building. A 2nd warrant was served that permitted officers to conduct a body search, the suspect became combative, officers observed that the suspect placed a substance believed to be cocaine in his mouth, which was swallowed after a struggle with 4 officers. EMT’s responded, the suspect was taken to Fox Hospital in Oneonta, where he died at 7:40 PM. The body was taken to Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton for an autopsy and toxicology screening. The suspect's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The incident remains under investigation by the Oneonta Police Department under the supervision of the Otsego County District Attorney's Office.

Oneonta Police conducted 3 no-knock search warrants this past weekend, resulting in the arrests of 2 men on drug charges. Police seized crack cocaine, marijuana, packets of heroin & cash, 34 year old Terrell Ford of Wilson North Carolina was charged with 2 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, 25-year-old Damien Ortiz of Queens, was charged with 2 counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance. Both were being held pending court action in the City of Oneonta Court.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 1-car motor vehicle accident on County Route 23 in the Town of Walton. Deputies arrested 25-Year-old Anthony Masi, of Unadilla; he is accused of possessing a vehicle that was reported stolen out of the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office earlier in the day. Masi was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, plus Aggravated DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation as well as other Traffic Violations. Masi was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court; he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Faculty in lieu of $20,000 cash bail pending future court action.

The Arc New York announced the availability of scholarships to individuals pursuing degrees in special education, physical or occupational therapy, or a field related to intellectual or other developmental disabilities. Delaware County Sheriff’s Department Investigators and County Probation Officers searched a residence in the Town of Davenport in June, which resulted in the seizure of Marijuana, allegedly belonging to 20-year-old Rumael Soler, who was not home at the time. The Town of Davenport Court issued an Arrest Warrant for Soler, who was arrested Tuesday when he appeared in town of Davenport Court on an unrelated matter. Soler was charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana, & Harassment in connection with a separate incident. Soler was arraigned in the Town of Davenport Court on both charges, and released on his own recognizance, to re-appear in that Court at a later time.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Department Investigators and K-9 Ozzie assisted Delaware County Probation Officers with the search of a residence in Walton Monday. 18-year-old Dylan Campbell, who is currently on probation, was arrested, and charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, & Violation of Probation. Campbell was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail, he will appear in the Village of Walton Court at a later time.

The Arc Otsego will host a career fair today from 2:00 to 7:00 PM, at The Arc Otsego at 35 Academy Street in Oneonta. The agency is currently hiring for a variety of positions, including direct support professionals, community service providers, bus drivers, home managers, individual program coordinators and more. Otsego County Sheriff's deputies arrested 21-year-old Tristen Caballer of Worcester on a warrant after a motor vehicle pursuit in East Worcester. Caballer was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana, aggravated harassment, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations, he was located by a deputy in East Worcester, a pursuit followed to a trailer park in Worcester, where Caballer abandoned his vehicle, fled on foot & was tracked by Police Dogs to a nearby residence, he faces court action shortly.

The Arc Otsego will host a career fair on September 13th from 2:00 to 7:00 PM. The fair will be held at The Arc Otsego at 35 Academy Street in Oneonta. Delaware County Sheriff's Office Investigators have arrested 29-year-old Jason Lagano of Erin New York, on a Delaware County Grand Jury Sealed Indictment Warrant issued earlier this year as a part of a narcotics investigation. Lagano was arrested at the Susquehanna County Jail in Montrose, Pennsylvania, where he has been held as a Fugitive from Justice. Lagano is accused of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, for allegedly selling methamphetamine in the Town of Deposit earlier this year Lagano was transported back to Delaware County Tuesday, he was arraigned in Delaware County Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail pending further court action.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Department arrested 2 County residents on Drug charges. Deputies arrested Chauncey Couse of Oneonta and Nichole Conklin of Laurens, for 2 counts each of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, for allegedly selling heroin in the City of Oneonta. Couse was already being held in the Otsego County jail on a previously charge, with Couse's bail set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond, Conklin was jailed on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond, pending future court action.

The Arc Otsego will hold its Annual Membership Meeting and Awards Banquet on June 15, 2017, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Foothills Performing Arts Center in Oneonta. The State Labor Department today released the Unemployment statistics for the month of March. Statewide, the rate dropped one tenth to 4.3%, locally, Chenango County had 5.6% unemployment, Delaware County had 5.7% & Otsego County had 5.1% for March.

The Arc Otsego will host a free Self-Direction Information Session on Thursday, April 27, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at 35 Academy Street in Oneonta. The informational session will be led by Cynthia Spann and Vanessa Smith, from The Broome Developmental Disabilities Regional Office, they will discuss what self-direction is, what can be included in self-directed supports and services, and provides an overview of the process of becoming truly self-directed. The State DOT will hold a public open house meeting on Thursday, March 23 to discuss plans to replace a bridge on State Route 7 in the village of Afton. The meeting will be held at the Afton Town Hall, from 5:30-7:00 pm. The bridge in question was built in 1922 and carries State Route 7 over Kelsey Brook. The bridge is safe for continued travel and is regularly inspected.

Governor Cuomo, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Members of the New York Congressional Delegation today announced over $5 million in federal Homeland Security grant funding for local governments across the state to bolster counter terrorism initiatives and strengthen public safety efforts. Funding will support local law enforcement tactical teams, technical search and rescue operations, and explosive detection canine units, while also safeguarding critical infrastructure across New York.

The Delaware County Department of Economic Development announced the acceptance of applications under the County’s 3rd-year Agricultural Microenterprise Program, which will make matching grants available up to $30,000 to eligible ag-based businesses. The Department of Economic Development will hold an application workshop, at the County eCenter in Delhi on Thursday, March 16th at 6:00 PM.
