The Broome County Sheriff’s Office concluded the death investigation in the Town of Conklin that has been ruled a murder-suicide stemming from an ongoing family dispute. On Friday, August 22nd, 65 year old Michael Shuta of Conklin was found deceased in Montrose, Pennsylvania, Shuta’s death was ruled a suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Police in Pennsylvania and New York believe that Shuta shot his nephew, 41 year old Matthew Slavetskas of Conklin, who was found dead by Officers at his Brady Hill Road residence. Detectives reported that both pistols used in the murder and the suicide were registered to Shuta.

36 year old Jason Gerhard of Montrose Pennsylvania was found guilty in Broome County Court today for Criminal Possession of a Weapon. State Police responded to a home on Patch Road in the Town of Chenango last February, where Gerhard entered a residence without permission, he was in possession of an illegal handgun & was arrested, at that time, Gerhard was on probation for illegal possession of a .38 caliber revolver. Gerhard could spend 3½ to 7 years in State prison when he is sentenced on April 20th.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a shooting during a home invasion in the town of Maine at around 8:30 PM Sunday. 23 year-old Jakev Jackson, had been receiving threatening messages while at home, then 25 year-old Brandon Sena-Bruzek of Montrose Pennsylvania & 23 year old Kenneth Hughes of Greene kicked down the door, armed with guns, Jackson was also armed with a shotgun. Investigators believe that Hughes pointed a handgun at Jackson, who fired and hit Hughes in the stomach, seriously injuring him. Hughes and Sena-Bruzek then fled the residence but were apprehended by Deputies, Hughes was taken to Wilson Hospital and Sena-Bruzek was arrested without incident. The investigation is ongoing & various felony charges will be filed.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to a tractor trailer accident on I-88 in the Town of Fenton that was transporting compressed Methane Gas. 52 year old Jeffrey Lind of Hallstead Pennsylvania was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased, deputies & local fire departments evacuated all homes & schools located within a ¼ mile of the scene. Lind was operating the tractor trailer owned by Xpress Natural Gas of Montrose, the preliminary investigation and eyewitness accounts indicated that Lind swerved to avoid a deer, lost control, struck the concrete barrier, overturned & slid across the highway into a concrete barrier. Crews removed the remaining gas from the scene, the evacuation remained in effect and surrounding roadways were closed into the afternoon hours, the cleanup and investigation continued into the afternoon hours.

State Police arrested 22 year old Kody Kemp of Friendsville Pennsylvania for Criminal Possession of a Weapon & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 30 year old Scott Maxey of Montrose Pennsylvania for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, after Troopers observed their vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Colesville Road in the town of Kirkwood. Troopers located a loaded gun in the vehicle and drug paraphernalia. Both were remanded to the Broome County Jail pending future court action.

State Police attempted to stop a Geo Tracker in Binghamton for multiple traffic violations, the operator of the vehicle failed to comply and a pursuit began to Windsor. The occupants threw auto parts into the path of pursuing law enforcement vehicles, their vehicle was eventually stopped with the use of tire deflation devices on Main Street in the village of Windsor, when the two occupants fled on foot & were arrested after a short chase. The vehicle operator was 23 year old Aaron Vogel of Hallstead, Pennsylvania, he was charged with the felony of Reckless Endangerment, Driving a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, and multiple traffic violations. The passenger, 20 year old Dylan Thompson of Montrose, Pennsylvania was charged with Reckless Endangerment and Resisting Arrest. They were arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office Investigators have arrested 29-year-old Jason Lagano of Erin New York, on a Delaware County Grand Jury Sealed Indictment Warrant issued earlier this year as a part of a narcotics investigation. Lagano was arrested at the Susquehanna County Jail in Montrose, Pennsylvania, where he has been held as a Fugitive from Justice. Lagano is accused of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, for allegedly selling methamphetamine in the Town of Deposit earlier this year Lagano was transported back to Delaware County Tuesday, he was arraigned in Delaware County Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail pending further court action.

The Broome County District Attorney’s Office & Tunkhannock Police are searching for 2 fugitives, wanted on felony warrants for Escape, Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Escape, and other related charges. 27-year-old Chelsea Robinson of Montrose Pennsylvania escaped from the custody of Wyoming County Adult Probation officers at the courthouse on May 5th. Robinson's boyfriend, 32-year-old Shane Macnamee assisted in her escape. ROBINSON and MACNAMEE may be in Binghamton or the Town of Chenango in Broome County, possibly operating a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Pennsylvania License plate of HKF-4361. State Police in Binghamton are looking for information that may lead to the whereabouts of a Binghamton man who fled from troopers in a reported stolen vehicle. On Tuesday, December 27th, state troopers pulled over 28 year old Ryan Markoff of Binghamton, in the town of Kirkwood, after he was observed driving a vehicle that was reported stolen. Markoff drove off as troopers were interviewing him and headed north into the city of Binghamton. State Police pursued Markoff through the city, and terminated the pursuit shortly after he entered Pennsylvania. Markoff was last seen driving a blue 2011 Kia Sorento, New York registration FPX 4416. He may have possibly traveled to Montrose, Pennsylvania and is known to frequent the Windsor and Hancock areas. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, State Police and the Massachusetts DEA Task Force today announced the indictment of more than 2 dozen people for their roles in an alleged national heroin smuggling ring. The investigation, seized more than 33 kilos of heroin and 2 kilos of Fentanyl worth about $13 Million dollars, plus weapons & vehicles, The operation netted alleged dealers and traffickers in New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and New Jersey, it is one of the largest heroin seizures ever in New York and is the single largest single seizure in the 46-year history of the state's Organized Crime Task Force.

39 year old Aaron Powell of Binghamton was brought back to Broome County Tuesday afternoon, he was charged with 2 counts of 2nd degree murder for the killing of his estranged wife Christina and 24 year old Mario Masciarelli of Binghamton. Both bodies were found at Christina Powell’s residence, Aaron Powell was apprehended in Montrose Pennsylvania Tuesday afternoon and was returned to the Broome County. Powell was arraigned and was sent to the Broome County Jail without bail pending future court action.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Department announced that the Susquehanna County Sheriff's Office has 39-year-old Aaron Powell in custody. Powell is the 'person of interest' in the double homicide in Powell’s house in the Town of Binghamton. An autopsy ruled that the deaths of 35 year old Christina Powell, and 24 year old Mario Masciarelli were homicides, their bodies were found Friday at 4185 Lisi Lane Binghamton. Powell was taken into custody at a store in the Montrose Pennsylvania.
