Locally, significant damage was reported where a roof was torn from a barn on County Road 14 in the Village of Earlville. In Smyrna, a tree came down on a house. The National Weather Service Investigators are canvassing the region today, more results are expected to be released in the coming days.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office and the Broome County Health Department provided an update on the response to the outbreak of Salmonella that hit the Broome County Correctional Facility earlier this week. Over 300 incarcerated individuals reporting gastrointestinal illness since Monday, 10 were hospitalized, Dozens of medical and healthcare workers responded, hundreds of bottles of water were sent, antibiotics were provided, After it was determined that Salmonella was what affected the inmates, On Thursday, Servpro completed a deep cleaning of all kitchen, programming areas, hallways and common areas within the Correctional Facility. All laundry and linens have been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Today, regular schedules resumed, visitation hours return on Monday morning.

Deputies responded to a call of a missing vulnerable adult in the Town of Edmeston, Deputies quickly initiated a coordinated search & they deployed a Sheriff’s Office Unmanned Aerial System equipped with thermal imaging technology, Using the drone’s advanced capabilities, deputies successfully located the individual in a field. The K-9 team and responding deputies found the missing person, who was suffering from hypothermia and complaining of hip pain. The victim was taken to Bassett Medical Center for further evaluation.

Lunsford allegedly punched the victim & struck the victim in the head with a glass bottle, the fight was broken up by a 3rd party, Lunsford left the scene & was located in Norwich and arrested & was transported to the Chenango County Jail for Arraignment.

State Police are continuing the investigation into a shooting on the SUNY Morrisville Campus Monday, where a 20 year old man who was not a student was shot in the neck. The victim was taken to a Syracuse area Hospital, no arrests have been made, The preliminary investigation into the shooting has determined that this was an isolated dispute between people who were familiar with each other. The investigation remains active, and State Police are working closely with our state and local law enforcement partners.

Norwich Police arrested 27 year old Caleb Alexander of Columbus Ohio for Criminal Impersonation following an investigation into an adult who was using foul language and disrespecting staff at the Norwich YMCA. Alexander was using a number of incorrect identifications, detectives learned that Alexander later went to Norwich High School, where he allegedly used a false name, date of birth, and address in an attempt to enroll and gain access to the school. Detectives located Alexander a short time later, and he was taken into custody without incident. Alexander was wanted on a parole/probation warrant from Ohio for robbery and impersonating a police officer. Ohio authorities have confirmed that they intend to extradite Alexander to face those charges. Norwich Police stated that no children were harmed, and the suspect never made it beyond the high school office. Alexander is currently being held pending an extradition hearing in Chenango County Court.

White was arrested by outside agencies on unrelated charges and remanded to several different correctional facilities. Investigation revealed that the victim was attempting to help an uninvolved friend move out of a residence in the Town of Unadilla when 32 year old Ryley Decker of Unadilla, intentionally discharged a round from a shotgun at the victim, who was taken to the Fire Department, & then was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Decker was located at his place of employment and taken in to custody by the State Police without incident. A search warrant for the residence was aquired which revealed additional evidence of the crime. Decker was processed and lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment, an order of protection will be issued on behalf of the victim. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending.

Norwich Police Department concluded a five-month long investigation into the sexual desecration of a deceased woman in the City of Norwich. 45 Year Old Mark Randall of Norwich was charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence & Sexual Misconduct, On May 1st, 2024, the Norwich Police Department responded to 12 Columbia Street for the unattended death of a 71-year-old female, Norwich Police Detectives, along with the State Police Forensic Investigation Unit collected evidence from the residence, they accuse Randall of performing sexual acts on the deceased woman multiple times, over a period of several hours. Randall is a Level 3 Sex Offender, he was arraigned at Norwich City Court and held on $25,000 bail to reappear at a later date.

36 year old Richard Hayes of Oneonta appeared in Delaware County Court & was arraigned on a sealed indictment for Aggravated Sexual Abuse, Failure to Register or Verify as a Sex Offender, for inappropriately touching a female child less than 11 years old, causing physical injury to the child, Hayes is also accused failing to register with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office as he was required by law. After being arraigned, Hayes pleaded not guilty to the indictment, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail pending future court action.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29 year old Elizabeth Gajdzis of New Berlin for 2nd degree Burglary, 3rd & 4th degree Grand Larceny, Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. On March 30th, The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division received a complaint of a stolen vehicle from a residence in the Town of New Berlin. Gajdzis is accused of stealing the vehicle, On April 1, she contacted a member of the Detectives Division regarding a separate matter and agreed to meet the Detective, she was arrested, was processed, arraigned & was remanded back to the correctional on cash bail and is scheduled to reappear in the Town of New Berlin Court at a later date.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant Tuesday at 373 Prospect Street in the Town of Dickinson. Police arrested 39 year old Andrew Fuller of Binghamton for multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & criminally using drug Paraphernalia and 45 year old Betty Hobbs of Binghamton for multiple Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Officers seized Methamphetamine, Suboxone, Oxycodone & other narcotics, ecstasy, cocaine scales & packaging materials, Fuller and Hobbs were transported to the Broome County Correctional facility for processing and arraignment.

The Indictment accuses Archer of 3 counts of Sexual Abuse, 2 counts of 1st degree Rape, as well as Criminal Sexual Act & 4 counts of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child. Attorney General Letitia James today secured an agreement with one of the nation's largest insulin manufacturers, Novo Nordisk, to cap the price of insulin at $35 per monthly prescription for uninsured New Yorkers for five years. The agreement also requires Novo Nordisk to implement a program with pharmacies to let uninsured patients know before they pay that they are eligible for the insulin cap. Today's agreement follows earlier agreements with two other large insulin makers, Eli Lilly and Sanofi, to cap insulin prices at $35 a month for uninsured New Yorkers.
