State Attorney General Letitia James led a multi state coalition of 23 attorneys general urging the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold the government's ability to work and communicate with social media companies to address the spread of dangerous content on their platforms. The coalition filed an amicus brief, urging the Supreme Court to reverse a recent decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals that prevents the important exchange of information between the federal government and social media companies about harmful content on their platforms. Other states participating include California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, & Vermont.


The Jericho Arts Council is now accepting applications from artists who wish to participate in Regatta Row’s 10th year, which will feature Adirondack Canoe Paddle chairs, and Adirondack Canoe Paddle Rocking Chairs. The State Labor Department released their latest unemployment statistics for the month of November. The statewide unemployment rate went up .1% to 4.3 % in November, Chenango County had 3.5% unemployment, Delaware County 3.9% & Otsego County had 3.7% in November.

The Town of Oneonta has adjusted the restricted area to the public to properties close to the area around Saturday's explosion & fire at Richards Avenue in Oneonta's West End. Residents within the affected area will be allowed to secure their homes from the outside only, Town of Oneonta Code Enforcement will be on scene with NYSEG to assist residents, the Code Enforcement Office phone number is 607-432-8606. The phone number for town hall is 607-432-2900. A representative from Mobile Crises Assessment Team is at the Oneonta Town Hall today and Wednesday at starting at 10:00 AM for anyone who needs assistance, their phone number is 315-732-6228.


NYSEG is reporting over 3000 customers without power this afternoon, following the heavy wet snow over the region. Crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible. Most of the power outages were in the Middle & Eastern townships in Delaware County.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to motor vehicle complaint in the Town of Davenport November 26th, Deputies learned that a vehicle had been stolen, damaged and return to the owner’s residence. Later that day Sheriff's Deputies located where the vehicle had been involved in a property damage accident. Deputies determined that owner 23-year-old Hector Padilla of Davenport had made a false report and was the operator of the vehicle when it was involved in the accident. Deputies charged Padilla with 2 counts of Criminal Mischief, 1 count of Obstructing Governmental Administration & 1 count of Falsely Reporting an Incident, he was issued appearance tickets for Town of Davenport Court at a later date.

On Saturday at approximately 5:30 pm; The Otsego County 911 Center received multiple 911 calls reporting an explosion and residential structure fire on Richards Avenue in the Town of Oneonta. The Oneonta Fire Department and multiple mutual aid departments responded. Upon arrival, they found multiple structures with severe damage and an active structure fire. Deputies and members of various fire departments assisted residents in the immediate area with a precautionary evacuation. Once the fire was extinguished, 60 year old Desmond Moan was found deceased. A neighboring resident received medical attention for minor injuries sustained during the explosion, the initial investigation determined the cause of the fire at 18 Richards Avenue was a result of human error.


1 person has died as a result of a house fire Friday night at 72 Colfax Avenue in Binghamton, 2 dogs were also killed by the flames. Binghamton Fire fighters arrived at the scene, they found heavy flames coming from 72 Colfax spreading to 74 Colfax Ave. Firefighters removed 1 person from the house, who was transported to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.


The Unadilla Fire was dispatched to a possible structure fire in the town of Unadilla on Kilkenny Road, at about 4:15 Saturday afternoon. Additional personnel were called in from Franklin, Wells Bridge, and Sidney Fire departments, it took approximately 25 minutes to get the fire knocked down.


The Tioga County District Attorney’s Office announced that 32 year old Boyd Fenton of Athens, Pennsylvania was arraigned on a 105-count indictment for setting a fire at Tioga Downs that killed 30 horses, destroyed the barn, injured a trainer, he was indicted for arson, assault, burglary, 38 counts of criminal mischief, 30 counts of interference with or injury to domestic animals; 31 counts of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals; aggravated cruelty to animals; bail for Fenton has been set at $25,000 cash, $50,000 property and $250,000 secured bond.


Delaware County Officials are aware of a complaint filed in the Northern District of New York by The Reporter. Officials can not make any comment at this time as the matter is in pending litigation, but officials deny all claims against the County as well as any individual named as a defendant in that matter, and will vigorously defend the action. The County was sued last week by the Reporter, as they claim that the action by the Board of Supervisors to remove The Reporter as the County's official paper for the publishing of legal notices, was in retaliation for coverage of county affairs by the Reporter's staff.


Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 44 year old Laura Davis of Big Indian was indicted for Drugged Driving by the Delaware County Grand Jury on December 7th. The Indictment alleges that on March 3rd, Davis was driving in the Village of Walton while her ability to operate that motor vehicle was impaired by a stimulant, she was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Controlled Substance Outside of its Original Container.


State Senator Joseph Griffo of presented the New York State Senate Empire Awards to a few Chenango County businesses recently. Griffo announced that the awards went to Golden Artist Colors of New Berlin, Preferred Mutual Insurance Company of New Berlin, Service Pharmacy of Sherburne & The Sherburne News.

The Sidney Veteran's Memorial Park fundraiser at East Main Lanes in Sidney the last 2 weekends was a big success, Park President Doug Barnard told WCDO how much they raised:

36 year old Justin Baker of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Thursday, and was arraigned on a sealed indictment. The Indictment accuses Baker of possessing approximately $6,000.00 in fentanyl and methamphetamine with the intent to sell in the Village of Sidney on September 11th. Baker pleaded not guilty to the indictment & he was released from custody & was placed under the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department, he could face up to 9 years in state prison if convicted on the top count.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced that they are receiving many items used in this year's World Series, won for the 1st time by the Texas Rangers. Artifacts donated by the Rangers include a Cap worn by manager Bruce Bochy; a Batting helmet worn by World Series MVP Corey Seager, & the glove worn by Pitcher Josh Sborz, & the Bat used by Adolis García in Game 1 when he hit the game-winning home run, Items donated by the Arizona Diamondbacks will include a Bat used by Ketel Marte when he extended his postseason hitting streak to a record 20 games. State Police responded Wednesday night to a 1-vehicle crash on County Road 39 in the town of Bainbridge. 39 year old Naqwain Johnson of Schenectady drove his vehicle off the roadway and struck a tree, Sidney EMS responded however, Johnson did not survive, the passenger, 38 year old Shelly Courcelle of Schenectady, was transported to an area Hospital, The investigation is on-going.


28 year old Devon Ireland of Unadilla appeared in Delaware County Court today and was arraigned on a sealed indictment. Ireland was charged with Attempting to endanger the welfare of a child, plus 1st & 2nd degree Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors & Ireland is a registered sex offender, he was accused of engaging in a sexually explicit online conversation with a person that he believed to be a 14-year-old child, with the intent to engage in sexual activity with the child, he attempted to meet the 14 year old in Masonville, and discovered that the child was actually an adult male using a “decoy” account. Ireland was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000.00 cash bail. The case is scheduled for a conference on October 23, 2023, at 1:00 P.M.


The Appellate Division of the State Supreme Court has ordered a New Trial of Scott Mawhiney of Deposit, who was previously convicted for shooting State Trooper Ryan Thorpe in 2021. Mawhiney's attorney argued that excluding a Psychiatrist testimony in the case regarding Mawhiney's anti-anxiety prescription led to an unjust conviction, a new trial date has not yet been announced.


Sidney Fire Fighters responded this morning to the report of a trailer fire at 50 East Main Street at about 6:00 AM. The trailer was fully involved, all occupants escaped, WCDO News will have more details as they become available.

26 year old Simon Wysong of Delhi was indicted Thursday in Delaware County Court, he is accused of Driving While Impaired by Amphetamines, Methamphetamines, and Fentanyl in the Town of Davenport on July 26, 2022. Wysong was driving at a high rate of speed on County Highway 10 when he failed to stop at a stop sign, crossed onto State Highway 23 & collided with another vehicle. Wysong's passenger was killed, the driver of the other vehicle suffered serious physical injuries. The Grand Jury indicted Wysong for Vehicular Manslaughter, Assault, 2nd degree Manslaughter & Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, he faces up to 8 1/3rd to 25 years in state prison if he is convicted of the most serious charge. Wysong will be arraigned on the indictment in Delaware County Court on October 23rd.


2 people were arrested following a traffic stop in Norwich regarding a stolen motorcycle, that led to a chase that ended in Unadilla. Norwich Police had attempted a traffic stop, the driver, Cody McCrady of Chenango Forks & passenger, Nichole Wiggins of Greene, fled. The pair were taken into custody in Unadilla. The investigation revealed that the Motorcycle was stolen from Manlius and the license plates were reported stolen from Johnson City. McCrady was charged with Reckless Endangerment, Criminal possession of stolen property, & criminal possess of a controlled substance, Wiggins was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Wiggins was released on an appearance ticket, McCrady was being for arraignment.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies received a complaint regarding a group of students from Walton High School who received a message via a social media app, which contained threats to bomb the Walton School and cause harm to other students. Deputies responded to Walton and interviewed multiple students and it was determined that the threat was made after school hours and that an 18 year-old student of Walton High School did make threats to “bomb” the Walton High School. The juvenile was charged with Making a Terroristic Threat and was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.


Commerce Chenango announced that 3 local museums are participating in the "MUSEUMS & MORE" event tomorrow. The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that a plea deal was given to 35-year-old Bradley Law of Harpursville. Law admitted to operating the vehicle in a hit & run Crash that killed 13 year old Brennan Loveless as he was riding hid Bicycle along Route 7 near his home in Sanitaria Springs back on New Year’s Day. Law was sentenced to 1 1/3rd to 4 years in prison for leaving the scene of a fatal accident and a weapons charge.


State Police reported that 16 year old Emily Clapper was located in good health in the city of Oneonta by Oneonta Police. Clapper was reported missing on October 2nd.

The Norwich & Vestal Walk-a-thon will be the only in-person events, the rest will be virtual, the Chenango County Child Advocacy Center in Norwich is one of the charities that will benefit from this effort. Matthews will distribute up to $150,000 to the charities based on the miles walked and the percentage of votes each charity receives during registration.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration may fine the Chicago Construction Company of Endicott about $4700 dollars in penalties after Keith Totten of Port Crane was critically injured when he was run over by a bulldozer at a job site in Binghamton. Totten sustained leg, hip and pelvis injuries in the incident, He spent 70 days in the hospital.


The Sidney Center Improvement Group will hold their 1st annual Down Home Fall Festival this Sunday, which will feature the newly installed playground & a wide variety of activities, according to Group Spokesman Mike Sellitti:

The First Judicial Department Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court has denied Donald Trump's motion to delay his fraud trial, meaning that the New York attorney general Letitia James $250 million civil trial against Trump will proceed on Monday. Earlier this month, a New York appellate judge had issued an interim stay, pending a ruling by the First Judicial Department.

The Survey Team at the National Weather Service in Binghamton confirmed that there was an EF2 tornado in Sullivan County Saturday evening, with estimated maximum wind speed of 115 mph, it had a path of nearly 10 miles and a maximum width of 300 yards. A tornado touched down north of Jeffersonville, along Callicoon Center Road, damaging trees, it moved north, where with damage to trees & structures, including a 180 foot truss tower that collapsed, The tornado continued north to the Roscoe area with uprooted trees, & some damage to structures along Dutch Hill Road, it lifted as it approached Rockland. Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 61 year old Fredrick Hallstead of McDonough for Criminal Mischief and Harassment. Deputies responded on March 12th, in the Town of Walton for a Domestic Incident in progress, where Hallstead is accused of making physical contact with a female victim, in an effort to prevent her from calling 911. Deputies subsequently located Hallstead recently and issued a summons to appear at Town of Walton Court at a later date.

Delsa McEwan, the mother of Anielle "AK" McEwan Lomnicki, has filed a lawsuit In Delaware County Supreme Court, against a number of people in relation to the February 15th incident where the 14 year old was run down by a car allegedly driven by Courtni Baker in Sidney. The lawsuit is filed against Baker, Baker's mother Theresa Baker who owned the vehicle, plus Ermeti's Community Lounge, owner Joe Ermeti and bar manager Laura Huntley. The Lawsuit claims that Community Lounge Staff should have stopped serving Courtni Baker that day, That Theresa Baker should not have allowed her daughter to operate the car while intoxicated, and against Baker for driving the vehicle into the Sidney Teenager. The case was filed on April 18th.


Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 31 year old Kyle Oakley of South Kortright for Criminal Mischief & Burglary. Deputies were dispatched to a Burglary Report in the Town of Stamford, between the dates of February 23rd and March 8th, someone had forced entry into a residence and intentionally damaged property, Deputies recovered evidence which was sent to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Deputies later received a positive DNA match with Oakley, an arrest warrant was issued & Oakley was located & was taken into custody last week, Oakley was arraigned in the Town of Middletown Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 in secured bond.


The Delaware County Department of Public Works will be closing County Route 16 in the Town of Delhi to through traffic beginning at 7:00 This morning to replace a culvert pipe between the two intersections with Fleming Road. On Wednesday, the road will be closed in the Town of Franklin between the northern intersection with Fleming Road and Douglas Hall Road. The traveling public should seek alternate routes.


The American Red Cross is holding 2 local blood drives today, as blood supplies remain critically low. In Sidney, a blood drive will be held from 1:00 to 6:00 PM at the Sidney Elks Lodge at 104 River Street. A blood drive is also being held in Delhi from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM at the SUNY Delhi Farrell Student & Community Center, at 454 Delhi Drive. State Police were called Tuesday afternoon to Castle Creek Road in the town of Chenango for a report of a car versus motorcycle fatal accident. The preliminary investigation determined that 31 year old Joseph Portorsnok of Binghamton, was turning left onto Castle Creek Road when he entered the path of a motorcycle, driven by 20 year old Kaitlynn Eaton of Castle Creek, who collided into Portorsnok. Police said that Eaton died at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.


The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that 38 year old Jeremiah Raub of New Milford Pennsylvania was released on $150,000 bail. Raub was charged with murder and arson in connection with a fatal house fire on Milford Street in Binghamton in 2011 that killed 17 year old Jeffrey Aissa, he was arrested by Binghamton Police last Month. Raub was placed on a pre-release program and will be monitored by Broome County Probation through a GPS ankle monitor, His next court date is scheduled for May 15th, the investigation into the fire remains active.


Commerce Chenango will host "Preventing Targeted Violence to Keep Communities Safe" on April 26th at the Colonia Theatre, 35 South Broad Street, Norwich. State Police released their update on the reported abduction of Tatiana David in Ithaca Wednesday. A witness reported that David was forced into a white SUV by the suspect, 34 year old Michael Davis of Richmond, Virginia against her will. An endangered adult alert was issued by State Police, They said that the victim and the suspect were in a previous relationship and have a 4-year-old child together. At 9:25 pm, Davis's vehicle was detected crossing into the State of Virginia, Virginia State Police stopped the vehicle, at which time Davis fled the scene, leading Virginia State Police on a pursuit which ended when the suspect vehicle crashed in a wooded area at 10:05 PM. Davis began firing at Virginia State Police, who returned fire, Davis was critically wounded and was taken to an area Hospital and is in critical condition, Tatiana David was located deceased outside the vehicle at the crash location with an apparent gunshot wound, her autopsy was scheduled last night, the results will be released shortly, the investigation is continuing.


Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility announced that 26 year old Tymel Platt of Binghamton is facing 6 felony charges for smuggling Cocaine and Fentanyl within the facility. The Corrections Criminal Investigations Unit acted on information that Platt was in possession of contraband, his body was scanned which revealed an item hidden on his person, they recovered 2 smaller packages, with Cocaine & 4.1 grams of Fentanyl, which is capable of killing 205 people. Platt was charged with 4 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 2 Counts of Promoting Prison Contraband, Platt was incarcerated on assault charges, he will be arraigned at a later date in the Town of Dickinson Court.


The United Way of Mid Rural New York officially expanded into Madison County on April 1st, making the local United Way chapter a 4 county chapter. Executive Director Elizabeth Monaco told WCDO News that the move into Madison County will present different challenges than the recent expansion into Delaware & Otsego Counties did:

Monaco said that the 1st fundraising effort in Delaware & Otsego Counties, brought in almost twice the amount than the previous year, but the circumstances in Madison County will not lend itself to doubling the fundraising in the 1st full year.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced that they have located Dalton Lannon in Kirkwood. Lannon was wanted on an outstanding warrant for violating his probation for criminal mischief, the Sheriff's Office received many tips from the public after announcing that they were looking for Lannon on Wednesday.

Argo said that Basset operates the largest school based health network in New York State with 21 schools in 17 area districts participating in the program.


The New York City Department of Environmental Protection, Friends of the Upper Delaware River, and the Upper Delaware River Tailwaters Coalition will hold a public information meeting to discuss the 2023 Delaware Aqueduct shutdown. DEP officials will be discussing the details of the upcoming shutdown and repair project and how it will impact the management of the Delaware River basin reservoirs and the Upper Delaware River. The Meeting will be held on April 11th from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at the Hancock Town Hall, 661 West Main Street, Hancock, a Zoom Link can also be obtained from one of the organizing agencies.


The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 39 year old Richard Lance of Kirkwood, was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in State prison after entering a plea of guilty to Failure to Comply with the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act. During August of 2022, Lance reported to law enforcement that he was residing at an address in the Village of Johnson City, while he was actually residing at the Dell Motel on Upper Court Street. Lance was convicted of a 3rd degree Rape in 2008 in Broome County.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 24 year old Patrick Combs of Grand Gorge pleaded guilty to Grand Larceny and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, in Delaware County Court. Combs stole over $3,000.00 from the Roxbury Country Store, also, on January 15th, he operated a motor vehicle on State Highway 30, while impaired by drugs. Combs will be sentenced to 1-3 years in state prison for his conviction of Grand Larceny & 364 days in jail for driving while his ability was impaired by drugs, the sentences will run concurrently.


The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 35 year old Rex Jordan for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, DWI, Unlawful Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation & Numerous other Vehicle and Traffic violations. An Otsego County Sheriff’s deputy and State Parks Police officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on State Highway 205, Jordan failed to comply and became involved in a 1 car motor vehicle accident, he was taken to Bassett Hospital. Police discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen out Oneonta. Jordan was discharged from Bassett before charges were filed, A warrant was issued & he was located by the Oneonta City Police Department who arrested him on unrelated charges. Jordan was processed and lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility, Additional charges are pending.


The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Emario Lynch of the Bronx in the town of Morris for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia. Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Deputies stopped the vehicle a short time later and found it to have switched plates and no insurance, Lynch was also found to possess crack cocaine and MDMA. Lynch was released on an appearance ticket & is set to appear in the Town of Morris Court at a later date.


The Chenango County Department of Public Health is offering a free rabies clinic for Chenango County pet owners on Saturday, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Guilford Highway Department, located at 223 Marble Road in Guilford. The clinic is for Dogs Cats & Domesticated Ferrets.
