Camp Forget Me Not is a camp for children from Helios Care, to help them deal with their grief from the loss of a loved one, program organizer Inda Fitch comments:

Helios Care will have a support group meeting for area caregivers today from 1:00 to 2:30 PM at their main office at 297 River street in Oneonta. Those who would like to join can register by calling 432-5525.

Helios Care has been awarded a grant of $195,000, from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation to support its Choices program, for those in Delaware, Otsego, and Schoharie counties. Through the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, Helios Care can serve certain patients at no cost to them and their families. This funding advances Helios Care’s mission of providing compassion, choices, and dignity for all patients and their families. Mirabito Cares announce the launch of its March 2026 Round Up at the Register campaign, a month-long community giving initiative dedicated to improving access to pediatric healthcare for children and families across Mirabito’s service areas. From March 2 through March 31, customers at all 112 Mirabito Convenience Store locations will be invited to round up their in-store purchases to the nearest dollar. Proceeds from the campaign will benefit Friends of Bassett supporting School-Based Health Program and the Upstate Foundation supporting vital patient care, education and research at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.

Congressman Josh Riley's team will be in Walton today to meet with constituents who need help with Medicare, Social Security, veterans' benefits or any other issue involving a federal agency. Bassett Healthcare Network’s board of directors has announced that Staci Thompson has been named President and CEO of Bassett Healthcare Network,she told WCDO News that she is excited to continue the work started by her predecessor Dr. Tommy Ibrahim:

Thompson has been serving as interim President and CEO since January 1, 2024, after succeeding Dr. Ibrahim, Her tenure as President and CEO of Bassett Healthcare Network begins immediately. Thompson arrived at Bassett Healthcare Network in 2023 after serving at The Guthrie Clinic for more than 28 years, where she held several executive leadership positions.

An 11-month-old at the center of an Amber Alert out of New York has died in Schenectady. Halo Branton had been reported missing, she was found in the area of the General Electric campus & was taken to a hospital where she passed Sunday, the investigation is continuing.

Helios Care announced a fundraiser coming up on February 23 from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. The Dine Out For a Cause event will be held at the Feel Good Smoothie Bar and Cafe, 4 Clinton Plaza Drive, Oneonta, a percentage of the proceeds will go to raise awareness and support for Helios Care. Otsego County Sheriff's Office & Cooperstown Police Department announced that a deceased male was found Friday morning in the Susquehanna River, the deceased was identified as Matthew Sisson of Otego, who was missing for 7 days. Sisson left Bassett Hospital Friday January 26th, where he had been transferred from Fox Hospital in Oneonta with Appendix issues.

Bassett Healthcare Network and Helios Care recently announced a collaboration to provide hospice and palliative care to patients in Central New York. Helios Care President & CEO Dan Ayres visited WCDO this morning & explained that there has been confusion about the arrangement, and the Helios Care remains as a separate entity from Bassett:

Ayres said that the State Department of Health has given approval for Helios Care to expand their services to include Herkimer and Chenango Counties to better line up with the Bassett Healthcare Network coverage area, more information regarding donations or job openings are available at helioscare.org or by calling 6070432-6773

Bassett Healthcare Network and Helios Care are collaborating to provide hospice and palliative care to patients in Central New York. The State Department of Health has given approval for Helios Care to expand their services to include Herkimer and Chenango Counties to better serve within the Bassett Healthcare Network. Currently, Helios Care serves Otsego, Delaware, and Schoharie Counties.

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar & Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced that after a comprehensive review of the medical provider at the Broome County Correctional Facility, they have rectified over $250,000 in Broome County taxpayer-funded overpayments. The investigation revealed that PrimeCare did not routinely provide the Broome County Sheriff’s Office with the costs incurred for services rendered as part of their monthly invoices as required, The net value of services not rendered by PrimeCare totaled $257,874; and The staffing matrix did not reasonably reflect the mix of nursing hours actually being provided. Sheriff Akshar & Executive Garnar said that Prime Care agreed to make all the corrections, they would meet the staffing requirements listed in the contract; provide monthly itemized invoices & would repay the outstanding $257,874 by crediting deductions in its monthly invoices over a 12-month period.

The Oxtober Festival will take place from 10 am. to 4 pm. on Sunday, October 22, at LaFayette Park in Oxford. Activities include pumpkin carvings, a scarecrow contest, music from the Nate Gross Band, food trucks, a kid zone, vendors and more. The New York State Cannabis Control Board provisionally approved 99 more Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary licenses, increasing New York's total to 165. 2 of the new dispenaries will be in the Southern Tier.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the availability of $2.2 million through the state's Opioid Settlement Fund to help connect New Yorkers to addiction services. The "Connections to Care" initiative will provide up to 11 grants for eligible providers to connect individuals in high-need and under served populations to long-term recovery.
