The United States Attorney’s Office announced that 33 year old Dupray Jordan of Binghamton entered a guilty plea in US District Court for possessing fentanyl and methamphetamine with the intent to sell, possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, in connection with a warrant executed in November of 2021. Jordan faces up to 20 years in prison, a series of fines, when he is sentenced on May 8, 2024 in Syracuse.
The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23-year-old Leroy Williams for unlawful dissemination or publication of an intimate image, a warrant has been issued for Williams’ arrest in the revenge porn case.
The State Court of Appeals ordered new Congressional maps be drawn for the 2024 election, the redistricting decision will ensure that all , district lines should be drawn by the Independent Redistricting Commission, and not by state lawmakers.
Bassett Healthcare Network will enter the new year with Staci Thompson taking over for Dr. Tommy Ibrahim, she told WCDO News that the recruitment efforts will continue in order to meet the goals of the organization:

The Bassett Healthcare Network board voted to appoint Thompson, who has been the Network’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, as Dr. Ibrahim’s successor, on an interim basis starting on January 1st.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies were contacted by members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office December 19th, that they had 59-year-old Eva Witteman in custody. Delaware County Deputies took Witteman into custody and transported her to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where she was arraigned & held without bail, an indictment was unsealed & she is accused of possessing methamphetamine following an investigation of an abandoned vehicle in February, she was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, she was was released on her own recognizance and directed to appear in court at a later date for these charges.

Chenango Memorial Hospital is closing the long-term care unit located on the hospital’s second floor as of January 31st. CMH will no longer be accepting new residents and, over the next 2 months, they will work closely with our residents and their families to ensure their placement in other long-term care facilities. 19 residents are currently at the facility, and employees of the facility will be transferred to other positions across the Hospital's departments. The hospital’s board and leadership team are currently exploring options for alternative uses for the second floor of the hospital.

Attorney General Letitia James today announced the takedown of a major drug trafficking ring that was distributing heroin and fentanyl, as well as powder and crack cocaine in Rensselaer, Albany, Saratoga, Schenectady, and Dutchess counties. The takedown resulted in the indictment of 25 individuals charged with 164 crimes and recovered cocaine, heroin laced with fentanyl, which have a street value of approximately $350,000 plus 4 handguns, 2 large capacity ammunition feeding devices, and the seizure of over $50,000 in cash.
A Lawsuit was filed in Broome County Supreme Court against the Vestal School District where a former Vestal High School student alleges that economics teacher Robert Carr asked her to meet him, he allegedly kissed the victim numerous times, groped her inappropriately and continued to force sexual activity upon her until she moved to the state of Texas and changed her phone number. The lawsuit claims that School Officials did not take any action against Carr after learning of the accusations.

On Tuesday, Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the US Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 22 year old Nathan Williams Jr. of Endicott, at 68 Thorp Street in the City of Binghamton. Williams was wanted by the Endicott Police Department for Murder in connection with the shooting death of 25-year-old Molique Dawson in Endicott in July. The Metro SWAT Team of the Binghamton Police Department executed the search warrant and Williams was successfully taken into custody after a 5 hour standoff, Williams was transported to the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility, arraigned at Central Arraignment and is currently being held without bail.
Congressman Marc Molinaro announced over $3.5 million in federal funding will go to 9 airports for infrastructure improvements. Locally, the Greater Binghamton Edwin Link Field Airport will get about $1,000,000, the Tri-Cities Airport in Endicott: $144,000, the Eaton Airport in Norwich: $144,000, the Sidney Municipal Airport: $144,000 & the Albert Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta: $113,000
Long time Sidney resident Les Gregory passed away at the age of 100 on Monday, Calling hours will be on Thursday from 5 to 7 pm., at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Funeral services will be at 11 am. Friday, at the Sidney United Methodist Church, 12 Liberty Street, Burial, with military honors, will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
The Oneonta City School District will hold a capital project public meeting tonight on their $30.4 million dollar project. The meeting will be held at 6:00 PM at the Oneonta High School Auditorium, voting on the project will be in December.

Governor Hochul today announced the launch of Round 13 of the Regional Economic Development Council Initiative, which will include core capital grant and tax-credit funding combined with a wide range of programs from 10 State agencies, including $150 million in grant funds from Empire State Development. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded May 10th to the Town of Meredith to assist US Homeland Security Units with the apprehension of 48 year old Charles Bodie of Meredith, who was wanted on an active US Federal Court Warrant for the Sexual Exploitation of a Child. Deputies and Homeland Security conducted surveillance of property in Meredith where Bodie had been living, on May 11th, they arrested Bodie on the warrant, he was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility, where he was to be held indefinitely. Bodie was scheduled to be transported to the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York at a later date for arraignment on the Sexual Exploitation of a Child charge, if found guilty, Bodie could face 15 to 30 years in prison.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office announced that a stolen vehicle traffic stop in the Town of Kirkwood led to an arrest on multiple felony drug charges last week. On May 7th, a deputy identified a vehicle as stolen from Binghamton, after stopping the vehicle and confirming its status, Officers seized 11.3 grams of cocaine, a digital scale and $1,423 in cash, 38 year old Jorge Cortina of Binghamton was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, he was processed and issued an appearance ticket to answer for his charges on June 7, 2023 in the Town of Kirkwood Court.

Delaware County Public Health announced that a Skunk tested positive for rabies in the Village of Deposit. An unvaccinated dog and 1 person were exposed to the rabid skunk, the dog had to be euthanized because it had not been vaccinated. The individual exposed to the skunk is receiving post exposure prophylaxis. A Broome County judge on Friday has sentenced Jason Johnson of Nineveh to 60 years in jail for the attempted murder of Trooper Rebecca Seager in June 2021, Johnson was found guilty on a number of felony counts last year in Broome County Court for shooting Trooper Seager in the hip in the Town of Colesville, Johnson was taken into custody following a 21-hour manhunt.
The Chenango County Department of Public Works announced the closure of Church Hill Road in the town of North Norwich today. The road will be closed between Bryant Road and Ellison Road for the replacement of a bridge deck. Local traffic will be allowed, more information is available at 337-1710.

New York State has been awarded $501.5 million in federal funds through the State Small Business Credit Initiative, which was reauthorized and expanded as part of the American Rescue Plan Act. Governor Kathy Hochul today announced $10 million available to all 57 counties to support the development of Threat Assessment and Management Teams, as required under Executive Order 18, that was issued by the Governor following the Buffalo attack in May, to fight the surge in domestic terrorism and violent extremism planned on and posted on social media platforms and internet forums. State Police arrested 39 year old Adam Bright of East Meredith for Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Aggravated Vehicular Assault, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Driving While Impaired by Drugs & Reckless Driving, after an investigation into a head-on crash on May 26th, on State Highway 23 in Davenport. Bright's minivan collided with a tractor trailer driven by 53 year old Michael Lutz of Oneonta. Bright was airlifted to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, his passenger, 43 year old Stacey Stachow of Meredith died at the scene, Lutz suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at a local hospital. Bright was located by Troopers Wednesday, he was arraigned at the Hamden Town Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail.
Delaware County Public Health Services has confirmed its first monkeypox case in Delaware County. The person had traveled outside of Delaware County and contact tracing efforts are underway. Monkeypox spreads through close, physical contact between people. The Delaware County Public Health Services advises those who experience symptoms, such as rashes or lesions, to contact their healthcare provider, this includes anyone who has traveled to countries and areas where monkeypox cases have been reported, for more information, go to health.ny.gov/diseases.

State Police arrested 39 year old Adam Bright of East Meredith for Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Aggravated Vehicular Assault, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Driving While Impaired by Drugs & Reckless Driving, after an investigation into a head-on crash on May 26th, on State Highway 23 in Davenport. Bright's minivan collided with a tractor trailer driven by 53 year old Michael Lutz of Oneonta. Bright was airlifted to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, his passenger, 43 year old Stacey Stachow of Meredith died at the scene, Lutz suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at a local hospital. Bright was located by Troopers Wednesday, he was arraigned at the Hamden Town Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail.
Delaware County Public Health Services has confirmed its first monkeypox case in Delaware County. The person had traveled outside of Delaware County and contact tracing efforts are underway. Monkeypox spreads through close, physical contact between people. The Delaware County Public Health Services advises those who experience symptoms, such as rashes or lesions, to contact their healthcare provider, this includes anyone who has traveled to countries and areas where monkeypox cases have been reported, for more information, go to health.ny.gov/diseases.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that the State Liquor Authority is now accepting applications for new permits to allow craft beverage manufacturing businesses the ability to manufacture and sell alcoholic beverages while their liquor license is pending. These new permits can generally be processed and approved in less than 30 days, compared to applications for new licenses that currently take an average of six months, expediting the time it takes to open a new craft beverage manufacturing businesses throughout the state.
The State Health Department is warning New Yorkers about a potentially deadly virus found in ticks in New York State. This year, Ticks may carry the Heartland virus, which causes symptoms in humans such as fever, nausea, diarrhea, joint pain, and low white blood cells. The State Health Department reports that in tick-infested areas, avoid contact with soil, leaf litter and vegetation, Wear light-colored clothing with a tight weave, Wear enclosed shoes, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. Consider using insect repellent, Avoid contacting vegetation & Avoid sitting directly on the ground or on stone walls.
The Joint Commission on Public Ethics passed a motion Friday that orders former governor Andrew Cuomo to repay royalties from his book deal. The move is the second time the commission has ordered Cuomo to repay his earnings from the book, “American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic.” JCOPE gave Cuomo approval to write the book in July 2020, he earned $5.1 million from the book, but an investigation by the State Assembly found that the book was written in part by state employees during their off-hours. Following the investigation, JCOPE rescinded the book’s approval. Cuomo’s team denied the allegations.
Beginning April 1st, the State DEC will be adopting changes to fishing regulations that will make fishing easier for New Yorkers. Changes include year-round fishing for Atlantic salmon as well as other lake and pond fish. Ice fishing will also be permitted on all waters, except for a few limitations. The Chenango County District Attorney's Office announced that Cody Coleman of Smithville Flats was sentenced to 20 years in prison & 5 years post-release Supervision as part of a plea deal for 1st-degree manslaughter for the death of 16 year old Amelia Wakefield 2 years ago. Coleman pleaded guilty for the fatal shooting of Wakefield with a shotgun on May 3rd, 2019 at his residence in Smithville Flats.
State Police and multiple agencies responded Sunday Afternoon at about 4:35 PM to a 1 vehicle crash off Interstate 81 south at the exit 1 off ramp in Kirkwood. The driver, 40-year-old Andrew Morley of Windsor, was transported to Wilson Hospital with serious injuries. A 14-year-old male passenger of Windsor was pronounced deceased after being transported from the scene & a 12-year-old female passenger of Windsor, was eventually taken to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse with serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand visited the Center of Excellence at Binghamton University to announce her bipartisan "Made in America Manufacturing Communities Act of 2022" , which incentivizes private-public partnerships by empowering the Secretary of Commerce to designate “Manufacturing Communities,” which would be eligible for federal financial and technical assistance. The bill would also help strengthen the U.S. manufacturing base and help local businesses cut through bureaucratic red tape to address ongoing pandemic-related supply chain disruptions.
Governor Hochul signed an executive order forbidding New York Businesses from doing business with Russia, including canceling its investments there. The state will not permit its own investment activity to aid Russia as it attacks Ukraine, Governor Hochul also said New York will welcome Ukrainian refugees in response to Russia’s invasion. New York is home to the largest Ukrainian population in the United States.

The number of children testing positive for COVID is declining to levels not seen since before students returned from summer break; in the past six weeks, the State established 261 #VaxForKids sites, and distributed 4.8 million COVID test kits to schools.
The Governor's Office & the State Health Department reported that the downward trend in COVID positivity rates declined on Saturday. Over 97,000 people were tested, with 1671 Total Positives, for a positivity rate of 1.71%. Patients hospitalization were down to 1,911, Patients in ICU were down to 342, the number on ventilators was 191, there were 20 new deaths reported by healthcare facilities Saturday.

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital's New Emergency Room configuration officially opens at 2:00 AM Tuesday morning, following a $30 Million dollar renovation, CMH Head of Nursing Dave Finney told WCDO News about the project:

Finney said that the Emergency Department had not been renovated in more than 30 years & needed to be upgraded to handle the current needs of the Greater Chenango County Area residents for Health Care. Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to an attempted armed robbery at the Mirabito's Gas Station in the Town of South New Berlin Sunday. The employee stated that a male walked into the store and demanded money, when the suspect was unsuccessful in getting the money, he fled the scene. A State Police Unit came into contact with the vehicle that was reported in the crime, on State Highway 320 in the Town of Norwich with the assistance from the Norwich City Police Department. 28 year old Jesey Smith of Spencer was charged with Attempted Robbery, he was arraigned in the Town of New Berlin Court & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail. Smith is scheduled to re-appear back in the New Berlin Court at a later date. The occupants of the Smith vehicle have not been charged and the case is still under investigation.
New York would extend the option to request an absentee ballot through the rest of 2022 under a bill that passed in the State Senate and Assembly. The bill will allow voters to request absentee ballots if they are concerned about voting in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The bill heads to Governor Hochul’s desk for her consideration.
New York sportsbooks took more than $600 million worth of bets from phones or computers in the first two weeks of the activity becoming legal earlier this month. The New York State Gaming Commission reported that the 4 operating mobile books; FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars and Rush Street Interactive, handled more than $603 million worth of bets for the weeks ending Jan. 9 and 16, an additional $8.5 million in bets were made at in-person sportsbooks, bringing the total to $611.5 million.

Funds from the campaigns will be allocated to programs that are addressing the issues of financial stability, education and health. Awards will be determined in early February.
According to preliminary figures released today by the State Department of Labor, the number of private sector jobs in New York State increased by 45,400 to 7,667,400 in December. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 6.6% to 6.2% in December.

Once the fire was extinguished by fire crews, 2 deceased individuals were discovered, The victims have been identified as 81 year old Peter Cirba and 81 year old Stephanie Cirba, no criminal activity is suspected in the cause of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The vehicles were a Dodge Charger and Chevy Silverado SUV, All of the occupants in the Dodge Charger sustained serious injuries, with The driver and 2 passengers were taken to Wilson Medical Center, 2 other passengers were flown by LifeNet to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. The driver of the Chevy Silverado was evaluated on scene and was not hospitalized, The crash remains under investigation.

New deaths reported by healthcare facilities from COVID was 134 on Saturday.

Norwich City Police responded to the report of a gunshot Saturday Night on Broad Street, and discovered an alleged meth lab at 134 South Broad Street and arrested 27 year old Tyler Mills. Mills was charged with resisting arrest, 2nd degree obstruction of governmental administration, and criminal nuisance. A search warrant was executed at Mills residence, & the evidence of a meth lab was collected by officers, the investigation is continuing & more charges are expected.

State Police have arrested 46 year old Charles Richter of Bainbridge, who was wanted in connection with an assault during a domestic dispute in Bainbridge. The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to Wilson Hospital for treatment, Richter has been charged with Attempted Murder, 1st degree Assault, Criminal Contempt, Unlawful Imprisonment.

There were 58 deaths in hospitals & nursing homes.
Delaware County Public Health reported 77 new cases of COVID 19 for Thursday & Friday, for an 8.9% positivity rate. There were 289 active cases, 7 hospitalized and 530 quarantined, 54.3% of Delaware County Residents were fully vaccinated.

The department reported that the peak month was January of 2021 when 86 people died from the virus. Currently, there are 778 cases of COVID 19 in Broome County, with 73 hospitalized, The deadliest month was January 2021, where the county reports 86 deaths from the disease. Delaware County District Attorney John Hubbard has announced the start of his campaign for Delaware County Judge in the 2022 election. The position will be on the 2022 ballot following the announcement of retirement by Judge Richard Northrup. Hubbard was elected District Attorney in November 2016 and was re-elected in 2020, he previously served as Chief Assistant District Attorney under Northrup for 10 years, after first joining the office in 2000 as an Assistant D.A.
The Cannabis Control Board today advanced regulations for public comment that will allow for the home cultivation of medical cannabis. The regulations follow the requirements of Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act, allowing for up to three mature plants and three immature plants per person and a cap of six mature and six immature plants within any private residence. The US Attorney's office announced that 35 year old Matthew Bormann of Sherburne pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography, in federal court this week. Bormann admitted that on March 12th, during a visit at his home from his United States Probation Officer, he possessed at least 3500 images and video files of child pornography on a cellular telephone he was prohibited from possessing under the conditions of his supervised release, following a 2014 federal conviction for possession of child pornography. Bormann will be sentenced for this 2nd conviction & for violating the terms of his probation on March 2nd 2022.
Butterball has issued a recall on more than 14,000 pounds of ground turkey products after consumers complained of finding pieces of blue plastic embedded in their raw ground turkey. The items being recalled are the 2.5-pound "farm to family Butterball all-natural Ground Turkey" trays with a sell-by date of October 18th, and the 3-pound "Kroger Ground Turkey" trays with an October 17 sell-by date. The items were produced on September 28, & should be returned to the place of purchase.

Beginning THIS SUNDAY, in the 607 area, callers must dial 10-digits, the area code + telephone number, for all local calls, those who only dial the 7 digit phone number will not have their call completed, and a recording will remind the caller to hang up and dial again using the area code and the 7-digit number.
