Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced the unsealing of a 5 count Indictment against 34 year old John Pierre Regazzi of Delhi. Regazzi was indicted for 1st degree Rape, Criminal Sexual Act, assault, menacing & unlawful imprisonment involving the same unidentified victim.

State Police in Saratoga and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating an officer-involved shooting at the State Police location on state Route 9 in Malta at about 1:40 PM Wednesday. An unidentified individual started firing a rifle at the barracks, troopers responded & the suspect is deceased. Two troopers suffered minor injuries. The investigation is continuing.
Agri-Mark Incorporated of Vermont has recalled 189 cases of Cabot Creamery 8-ounce premium butter, Consumers should not eat or use the recalled butter, which has an expiration date of September 9th. Agri-Mark officials said that they have recovered 99.5% of the potentially contaminated lot before it was sold to consumers, it was found to contain Coliform bacteria, Cabot products are sold in several states, including in New York.

The Detail also arrested 42 year old Jesten Hyde of Conklin for a variety of drug charges, Hyde was found to possess 23 grams of methamphetamine. The initiative also resulted in drug charges against 38 year old Christopher Pierre of Endicott, for possessing cocaine, methamphetamine and a schedule 2 controlled substance.

28 year old Keisha Wright of Hancock appeared in Delaware County Court Tuesday & was sentenced to 1 year in jail for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. In October of 2023, a State Trooper located a stolen credit card in a store in Deposit they were able to identify Wright as the individual that dropped the card. The credit card was not used, & the owner had canceled it. Wright admitted in court that she possessed the stolen credit card & intended to use it. She was due to be sentenced to a 9 month prison term, but she failed to appear for sentencing, she was located, arrested & was returned Delaware County Court where Judge Hubbard imposed imposed an enhanced sentence
An Oneida County Grand Jury met Wednesday regarding the death of Midstate Correctional inmate Messiah Nantwi, who died March 1st. 15 staff members at both Midstate and Marcy Correctional are on leave or suspended in connection with the case. The Grand Jury will determine if there is evidence to indict them.

Guerrero is accused of taking the victim’s phone to prevent the victim from contacting 911 & subjecting the victim to unwanted physical contact, he was released on his own recognizance following arraignment and the issuance of an order of protection.

Joe Ermeti of Sidney announced his candidacy for Delaware County District Attorney, the position is on the ballot this year following the election of former District Attorney John Hubbard to the position of County Court Judge. Ermeti has been an attorney for more that 30 years of experience as an attorney, he has served as Town of Sidney Attorney, Village of Bainbridge Attorney, and Otsego County Assistant Public Defender, and operated his own law office in Sidney from 1993 until 2019. Ermeti will face will be running in the June 27th Primary against Acting Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith
Former Otsego County Sheriff Donald Mundy has passed away. Mundy served as the Sheriff from 1993 until 2006, he also founded the Otsego County Law Enforcement Academy in 1995 which still trains Law Enforcement Officers throughout the region, he also served as a New York State Trooper from 1963 to 1985.

On Monday night, Deputies responded to a 1 car motor vehicle accident with injuries on State Highway 206, near Davis Road in the Town of Walton. 1 vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree, Deputies made contact with the driver, 41-year-old Christine Falsetta of Sidney, she was charged with Driving while ability impaired by drugs, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator and Moving from a lane unsafely, Falsetta was released on tickets returnable to the Town of Walton Court at a later date. Falsetta was released to a third party identified as 49-year-old Shawn Smith of Sidney, a check of Smith’s driver’s license revealed his was suspended, Smith was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle as well as Failing to turn in his License to DMV and Unlicensed Operator, he was released on the uniformed traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 19 year old Savon Turrell of Binghamton, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Turrell admitted that on May 3, 2022, he illegally possessed a loaded 45 caliber pistol. Binghamton Police responded to a report of shots fired with the suspects leaving the scene in a light-colored Dodge Caliber. Police tracked the vehicle to a house on Oak Street. Turrell was located & was arrested, no one was injured in the shooting. Turrell will be sentenced to 3 ½ years in New York State prison followed by 3 years post release supervision on May 19th.
Acting Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that he will run for District Attorney this November. Smith became acting DA when previous District Attorney John Hubbard ran for and won the race for Delaware County judge in November. Smith is seeking the Republican Party nomination, he already has the endorsement from the County Conservative Party.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 19 year old Jeffrey Bullis following a complaint in the Village of Unadilla. Bullis was charged with Harassment & Trespassing on February 27th. Bullis was arraigned and released & will appear in the Town of Unadilla Court on a later date.

The Chenango County Health Department announced that a flu shot clinic will be held Friday November 18th at the Chenango County Office Building in Norwich. The Flu Clinic is free for those 10 years of age & older who have no or limited coverage insurance, per-registration is requested at 337-1660.

Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 41 year old Billie Jo Browning of Unadilla, after Deputies responded on October 28th, to a 2-car property damage motor vehicle accident on State Highway 28 in the Town of Meredith. Deputies arrested Browning for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, she will appear in the Town of Meredith court at a later date.
The Chenango County Historical Society announced that they are celebrating the 100th anniversary of The Raymond Corporation, at their annual Membership dinner at 5:00 PM tonight at Raymond in Greene. In 51st State Senate District, Incumbent Peter Oberacker faces Democratic Challenger Eric Ball. In State Assembly District 121, incumbent Republican Joe Angelino is unopposed. The new 101st District covers Otego, Laurens, Morris, & Franklin locally, the candidates are Democrat Matthew Mackey & Republican Brian Maher, in the new 122nd District, covering Oneonta, Milford, Hartwick, Burlington, & New Lisbon locally, Democrat Dan Butterman, Republican Brian Miller & Working Families Party candidate Colton Mennig are running for the seat.
43 year old Ray Hyer of Unadilla was arrested in Ohio after he failed to appear in n Otsego County court earlier this year for sentencing on a criminal sexual act charge. Hyer was located in Sandusky, Ohio on October 21st, he was arrested and was extradited back to the Otsego County Jail, he faces additional charges on top of the original criminal sexual act conviction.
Broome County officials are investigating the death of an inmate in the Broome County Jail on Friday. 30 year-old Mitchell Lindow of Binghamton was being held on a murder charge when he was found deceased by Corrections officers conducting a head count, an autopsy was conducted Friday, no cause of death was determined.

The State Labor Department released their local unemployment rates for September. Locally, Chenango County reported 2.7%, Delaware County, 3.1%, Otsego County 2.8% & Broome County 3.3%. The State wide Unemployment rate was 4.3% in September.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced applications are now being accepted from small businesses that have successfully completed the pre-screening process to become certified for the COVID-19 Capital Costs Tax Credit Program. The refundable tax relief program targets COVID-19-related expenses such as disinfectants, HVAC equipment, Expenses related to increased outdoor activity and outdoor space expansions & Machinery and equipment to facilitate contactless sales. Delaware County District Attorney John Hubbard has announced the start of his campaign for Delaware County Judge in the 2022 election. The position will be on the 2022 ballot following the announcement of retirement by Judge Richard Northrup. Hubbard was elected District Attorney in November 2016 and was re-elected in 2020, he previously served as Chief Assistant District Attorney under Northrup for 10 years, after first joining the office in 2000 as an Assistant D.A.
The US Attorney's office announced that 35 year old Matthew Bormann of Sherburne pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography, in federal court this week. Bormann admitted that on March 12th, during a visit at his home from his United States Probation Officer, he possessed at least 3500 images and video files of child pornography on a cellular telephone he was prohibited from possessing under the conditions of his supervised release, following a 2014 federal conviction for possession of child pornography. Bormann will be sentenced for this 2nd conviction & for violating the terms of his probation on March 2nd 2022.

Chenango County Public reported today that they have had 42 new COVID 19 cases since Friday’s report, and 2 more residents died from COVID complications. The County now has 87 active cases, 405 are quarantined, and 5 are hospitalized. Chenango County had had 724 total cases since March, with 13 deaths, 618 recoveries & over 47,500 tests conducted.
A traffic stop in the town of Norwich led the to the arrest of a man wanted for stealing a camper from Otsego County in October then abandoning it in Binghamton. State Police arrested 46 year old Clint Payne of Beaver, Pennsylvania, for Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. On November 20th, Payne came to the State Police Norwich barracks inquiring about another matter, when he drove off a trooper observed that Payne’s vehicle had multiple vehicle and traffic infractions, he was stopped & the trooper discovered that Payne was wanted for Grand Larceny in Otsego County & he was accused of possessing of methamphetamine. Payne was processed in Oneonta, the Otsego County Central Arraignment and Processing & Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.
State Police arrested 26 year old John Flora of Windsor for allegedly burglarizing residences in the town of Windsor. An investigation by State Police BCI arrested Flora at his residence. He was charged with multiple counts of 2nd degree Burglary & was taken to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.
Village of Sidney Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative Committee has had 16 community members appointed, with Village residents, business owners, Religious leaders, Village Board members, Members of the Police Department, Delaware County Public Defender's office and Delaware County District Attorney John Hubbard. The Sidney Central School District has been notified that a student has tested positive for COVID-19. This person has not been on campus since Wednesday, December 2nd. The Delaware County Health Department is conducting the investigation and will notify anyone who they feel may have been exposed. The teachers and students impacted by the quarantine have been contacted, as they will transition to a remote learning environment.
The Walton Central School District will learn remotely today and Tuesday, after the Delaware County Health officials notified the district of a positive COVID-19 case involving a staff member, contact tracing will take place the next two days.

Delaware County Public Health announced that they had 13 new COVID 19 cases Sunday, bringing their total to 438 since spring. There are 87 active cases, 5 are hospitalized & 246 are quarantined.
Otsego County Department of Health announced that they had 14 COVID cases reported Saturday & 22 new cases Sunday. Otsego County is up to 1418 total confirmed cases, 109 are active cases, 9 are hospitalized, and there have been 8 deaths since March. Otsego County Department of Health is announcing a potential COVID 19 exposure at the American Legion 60 Main Street Cooperstown, from November 25th through November 30th, should monitor themselves for symptoms and get tested.

Dylan Robinson and Nicolas Meridy have been offered plea
bargains in Otsego County Court by Otsego County District Attorney's
office. The pair was offered 22 years
in prison to life if they plead guilty for their roles in the fatal shooting of
Robinson's father Kenneth Robinson, in his Worcester home on October 10th. Meridy & Robinson face additional court
action on March 9th.

The Otsego County Jail is expected to reopen in
mid-February. The inmates were moved out
to other jails following a roof leak in November, where the prisoners were all
being kept, while renovations were underway in another part of the jail.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced today that federal disaster assistance has been made available to New York to supplement state, and eligible tribal and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms and flooding on August 13th to August 15th. Delaware County Sheriff’s Department arrested 56 year old Raymond Champlin of Harpersfield, on 6 counts of Forcible Touching and 6 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Champlin is accused of forcibly touching a 14 year old female victim; he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond pending a return to Town of Harpersfield Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 32 year old Matthew Hubbard of Walton for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while registration suspended, and other Vehicle and Traffic law violations. The arrest occurred during the course of an investigation into a disabled vehicle on State Highway 206 in the Village of Walton. Hubbard was released on traffic tickets, and is scheduled to appear at the Village of Walton Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 2 New York City men on felony marihuana possession charges following a traffic stop on State Highway 17 in the Town of Hancock. Deputies stopped a speeding vehicle operated by 20-year-old Messiah Ortiz of New York City, a search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the seizure of 1 pound of marihuana and over $2500 cash. Deputies charged Ortiz and 26-year-old Michael Lewis of New York City, with Criminal Possession of Marihuana, they were arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court where they were remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 secured bond pending future court action.
State Police arrested 30-year-old Maxx Waters of Afton for 3rd degree Assault & harassment. Waters was arraigned in the Town of Afton Court where he was remanded to the Chenango County Court on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 property bond. His next court date is on December 8, 2016.

State Police arrested 32-year-old Amber Joy of Morris for 4th grand larceny; Joy is accused of stealing religious items from the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, on Main Street in the Village of Morris, valued at $240. Joy was arraigned in the Town of Morris Court where she was remanded to the Otsego County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 property bond. Her next court date is pending.
A City of Norwich resident was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office on a Fugitive of Justice complaint from New Jersey. 30-year-old Scott Russell was taken into custody and was brought to the Town of Norwich Court. Russell was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility with no bail. He is to reappear in the Chenango County Court at a later date.
