The National Baseball Hall of Fame Military Classic will be held Saturday, at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown. Seven Hall of Famers and 25 big league stars will participate in the seven-inning legends game during Memorial Day Weekend festivities that will honor baseball’s longstanding connection to the military. The activities begin when gates open at 11 am., and the pregame home run hitting contest will begin at noon, followed by the 1 pm. game. An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held in Sidney Saturday from 10:00AM to 2:00 PM at the Community Cultural Center at 1 Bridge Street. Appointments can be made at redcrossblood.org, 1-800 Red Cross or with the Blood Donor App. The Blood Drive is dedicated to the memory of Madisyn Oakes, a Bainbridge Guilford Student who passed away in a car crash at 17 years of age on April 20, 2025.
This Saturday, New Berlin is hosting its First Annual Village Crawl, which is a Community Cleanup Day and emergency stabilization kickoff at the historic Harris-White House also known as the "Pink Palace" at 5050 State Highway 8, New Berlin, the event will run Saturday, from 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 54 year old Shelley Wilkerson of Worcester for Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals and failure to provide sustenance following an investigation into a report of an elderly Great Dane that was dying or deceased at Wilkerson's residence. Deputies found the Great Dane was located outside, the Investigation revealed that Wilkerson allegedly failed to provide proper veterinary care to the dog, which resulted in the dog's death. Wilkerson was arrested and was issued an Appearance Ticket to Town of Worcester Court at a later date.

Greater Opportunities of Broome and Chenango County, recently won the bid from the Norwich School District to purchase Flanagan Field on Plymouth Street in Norwich, they plan to build a $9 million multi-unit apartment project for low-income housing at the site. The sale of the parcel has to be approved by voters in the Norwich School District when they vote on the district budget on May 19th in the Norwich City School District Office, 89 Midland Drive in Norwich.

Walton Fire Department and Emergency Squad were dispatched Sunday at about 2:00 PM to a working structure fire on Fish Hollow Road in the Town of Hamden, that was called in by a passerby. Upon arriving, units found a 2 1/2 story farm house with smoke & flames showing, by 3:00 pm the fire was under control, the structure was a total loss and 1 nearby structure was saved, No injuries were reported to the 3 residents or firefighters, mutual aid was provided by several area Fire Departments.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Samantha Kilts & 44 year old Kristopher Kovacks, of Smyrna, for Trespass, Criminal Mischief, and Petit Larceny after an investigation into a trespass complaint. It is alleged that Kovack and Kilts unlawfully went on the property of the victim, stole, and damaged items. Kovack and Kilts were arrested and released on appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.

Governor Hochul has been pushing for new laws to crack down on auto insurance fraudulent claims that have been driving up the price of New York insurance Policies above what drivers in other states are paying:

Hochul said that the State Florida implemented a series of reforms to crack down on insurance fraud, knocking down insurance costs by about 20% for their driver in the last 2 years, she is urging the legislature to pass similar laws by the end of this session in June.

The development will be located at the former Flanagan Field on Plymouth Street, $8 million from the State Homes and Community Renewal Home-ARP and $1 million from a Chenango County Infrastructure Grant. The project calls for a 20-unit residential development that will be ADA compliant, Greater Opportunities will enter into a purchase agreement with the Norwich City School District to acquire the land after a survey is performed.
The State Cannabis Advisory Board and The State Office of Cannabis Management announced the launch of the second application round for the Community Reinvestment Program Grants, continuing New York's effort to reinvest adult-use cannabis tax revenue into communities disproportionately impacted by past federal and state drug policies. This grant opportunity has a minimum of $5 million to award and up to $15 million, Interested applicants can apply for the Community Reinvestment Grants at cannabis.ny.gov/reinvestment.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum today announced that artifacts from Team Venezuela, have been acquired by the Hall, after Venezuela’s 3-2 win over Team USA, to win the World Baseball Classic Tuesday night in Miami Florida. The Museum acquired Helmet worn by WBC Most Valuable Player Maikel Garcia in the championship game, Venezuela-themed shoes worn by closer Danny Palencia in the championship game, Batting gloves worn by Eugenio Suárez when he hit the game-winning double. For the entire month of March The Delaware Valley Humane Society will be having a Can & Bottle drive where people are encouraged to drop off bags of redeemable cans & bottle at the shelter, pick ups can be arranged for those within 8 miles of our shelter with 10 or more bags to pick up, call the shelter to make arrangements at (607) 563-7780. The shelter will also accept dry dog food, canned dog and cat food, cleaning supplies, such as Fabulosa and bleach, and Clorox wipes.
Delaware County Public Health recommends that pet owners take advantage of any of the free remaining rabies clinics for dogs, cats and ferrets in Delaware County. Pre-registration is suggested for all clinics, the next one will be today from 5PM-6:30PM, at the Colchester Highway Garage on River Road, Downsville, pre-register at health.ny.gov/go2clinic.

33 year old Drew J. Garnier of Masonville was sentenced to a total of 30 years in prison to be followed by 15 years of post-release supervision for the killing of his pregnant wife Samantha and assaulting his 2 daughters. Garnier admitted to repeatedly stabbing his wife and children in their home on Houck Road in the Town of Masonville on September 4, 2024. Samantha and her unborn daughter died as a result of the stabbing. The children suffered significant injuries. Garnier pleaded guilty to 1st degree Manslaughter, and 2 counts of 1st degree Assault in March in Delaware County Court.
33 year old Drew J. Delaware County sheriff's office provided an update regarding the head on collision on State Highway 206 in the Town of Walton Tuesday, where 1 of the vehicles went over an embankment. 3 of the occupants escaped from their vehicles, 1 was trapped. A vehicle operated by 68-year-old Steven Wilson of Irvington, crossed over the double yellow line and collided head on with an SUV operated by 19-year-old Lauren Winans-Houck of Roscoe, her SUV exited the roadway and traveled over the embankment. A passenger of the SUV was transported to Delaware Valley Hospital and was released. Winans-Houck was transported to Wilson Hospital in Binghamton for treatment of injuries and leg fractures, Wilson, and his passenger were air-lifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, the passenger was treated for fractures & was released, Wilson remains in critical condition due to multiple fractures and internal injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
39 year old Kyle Butler of Binghamton was found guilty by a Broome County Jury for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. As a Second Felony Offender, Butler faces up to 12 years in State Prison when sentenced in Broome County Court on August 12th. Butler was arrested after a search warrant was executed by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force in November, where investigators uncovered cocaine, fentanyl, and U.S. Currency.

4 more former Marcy correctional officers appeared in Oneida County Court Wednesday for their alleged involvement in the beating death of Robert Brooks in December. Michael Fisher, Michael Mashaw, Nicholas Gentile, and David Walters appeared to answer to plea deals, Gentile accepted his deal on the charge of attempted tampering of physical evidence, he is accused of cleaning up the area where Brooks was beaten, and failing to report it to authorities.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame reported that anyone removed from Baseball’s permanently ineligible list will become eligible for Hall of Fame consideration. Major League Baseball’s decision to remove deceased individuals from the permanently ineligible list will allow for the Hall of Fame candidacy of such individuals to now be considered. The Historical Overview Committee will develop the ballot of eight names for the Classic Baseball Era Committee, to vote on when it meets next in December 2027.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's Office audited the Village of Sidney, covering the period of June 2020 to June 2022. The Audit said that the Board and Clerk-Treasurer did not properly monitor selected financial activities, so the total general fund balance for fiscal year-end 2021-22 was overstated by $571,719. For the past 5 years, the total airport operating deficits exceeded $293,000, Delinquent taxes totaling $575,182 date back to fiscal year 2011-12 and officials cannot identify which taxpayers owe $60,452 of that total. General fund assets were overstated by $288,510 and liabilities by $434,929 in fiscal year 2021-22. 2 capital project funds and 3 community development funds have negative fund balances. The Audit's Recommendations were to determine whether revenues are adequate to cover expenditures, Collect delinquent real property taxes & Maintain proper accounting records, Village officials generally agreed and indicated corrective actions would be taken.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that 50 year old Michael Seaman was sentenced to 4 years in New York State prison followed by 5 years post-release supervision after pleading guilty to felony Attempted Assault. Seaman admitted that on October 18, 2022, in the Town of Fenton, he attempted to cause serious injury to an 18-year-old male by stabbing him in the leg with a knife during a road rage altercation. The victim was hospitalized and required surgery. Seaman was located in Chenango County later that day.

Broome County DA's office announced that 40 year old Quintin Wilson of Binghamton was convicted in Broome County Court in connection with a daytime Binghamton home invasion during which 2 people terrorized a 29-year-old woman. Wilson was found guilty for 2 counts of burglary, obstructing governmental administration and endangering the welfare of a child on March 5th 2021. Wilson will be sentenced on June 9.
The Town of Unadilla announced that they will be closing the Town Court tonight, due to the impending Winter Weather.
The General Clinton Canoe Regatta meeting originally scheduled for tonight has been canceled due to the Weather, the next meeting will be Monday, April 3rd @ 6:30 pm in the backroom @ Galaxy Bowl.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 41 year old Joshua Condon of Hartwick was sentenced to 20 year in prison for sexually abusing an 8 year old child. The sentences will be followed by 10 years of Post Release Supervision, and he will be required to register as a sex offender.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 41 year old Joshua Condon of Hartwick was sentenced to 20 year in prison for sexually abusing an 8 year old child. The sentences will be followed by 10 years of Post Release Supervision, and he will be required to register as a sex offender.
Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 49 year old Lyman McCann of Delhi was arraigned on a 3 county Indictments in Delaware County Court last week. McCann was charged with failure to register a change of address, criminal possession of a weapon and Offering a False Instrument for filing . McCann is accused of failing to notify Law enforcement of a change of address, failing to register as a sex offender and possessing a billy club in October of last year, he was sent to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000 Cash Bail or $10,000 bond.
19th District Congressman Marc Molinaro will host town halls in Otsego & Delaware Counties today, The Otsego County Town Hall will be held at 11:00am at the Oneonta Town Hall in West Oneonta, followed by the Delaware County Town Hall at 1:00 PM at the Walton Fire House.

NYSEG & Rochester Gas and Electric announced plans to increase rates, in order to continue to switch over to clean energy resources and update their facilities. The “Reliable Energy NY” plan proposes a rate structure that would add $10-18 to the average electric or gas residential customer’s monthly, which is a 13 to 22% increase on each bill. The new rates are proposed to into effect on May 1, 2023, they must get approval from the Department of Public Service before implementing a rate increase.

Sidney Police Department arrested a Springfield Center woman for several charges during a traffic stop, after an officer observed a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker. The officer attempted a traffic stop, before the officer could exit the vehicle, the suspect took off. The officer pursued the vehicle onto I-88, the suspect stopped, put the vehicle in reverse and backed into the officer's vehicle, & left again. A 2nd officer joined the pursuit, & eventually, police arrested 19 year old Isabella Lepetich, who was charged with Driving while ability impaired by drugs, Operating without inspection, Illegal signal from parked position & Failure to obey a police officer. Lepetich was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court & was released & was ordered to appear in court at a later date. The investigation is still on going and more charges are expected to be filed.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that the State Liquor Authority is now accepting applications for new permits to allow craft beverage manufacturing businesses the ability to manufacture and sell alcoholic beverages while their liquor license is pending. These new permits can generally be processed and approved in less than 30 days, compared to applications for new licenses that currently take an average of six months, expediting the time it takes to open a new craft beverage manufacturing businesses throughout the state.

The Joint Commission on Public Ethics passed a motion Friday that orders former governor Andrew Cuomo to repay royalties from his book deal. The move is the second time the commission has ordered Cuomo to repay his earnings from the book, “American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic.” JCOPE gave Cuomo approval to write the book in July 2020, he earned $5.1 million from the book, but an investigation by the State Assembly found that the book was written in part by state employees during their off-hours. Following the investigation, JCOPE rescinded the book’s approval. Cuomo’s team denied the allegations.
Beginning April 1st, the State DEC will be adopting changes to fishing regulations that will make fishing easier for New Yorkers. Changes include year-round fishing for Atlantic salmon as well as other lake and pond fish. Ice fishing will also be permitted on all waters, except for a few limitations. 21 year old Brandon Clark of Cicero was released from a
Utica Area Hospital & has officially been charged with 2nd degree murder,
for the death of 17 year old Bianca Devins of Utica last weekend. Clark was remanded to the Oneida County Jail,

following the execution of a search warrant.

Chenango County Jury convicted Ernest Franklin of Guilford
for 2nd-degree murder, 3rd-degree arson, and tampering with physical evidence
in connection with the 2017 murder of his 16-year-old adopted son Jeffrey. The Jury believed that Franklin killed Jeffrey
& set fire to the family home to cover up the murder, his wife Heather’s
trial will be held in Chenango County court later this year.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 19 year old Justin Reed of Downsville, with 2nd degree Rape and Criminal Sex Act. Reed is accused of engaging in sexual acts with a child under the age of 15 in the Town of Walton earlier this month. Reed was arraigned at Walton Town Court and was released on his own recognizance pending his appearance in the Walton Town Court on a later date to answer the charges.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Department has issued an Amber Alert for Central New York, following a reported Child abduction in Sodus about 9:48AM on Wednesday. The child is 1 year old Owen Hidalgo-Calderon, a Hispanic Male, with short brown hair and brown eyes, about 2 feet long and about 30 pounds& may require asthma medication. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a narcotics search warrant at the home of 43-year-old Robert Brady of Binghamton Thursday. Police seized 100 bags of heroin, Illegally possessed prescription pills, Drug packaging materials, and $12,816 in cash from suspected drug sales. Brady was charged with several counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminally using drug paraphernalia.

State Police arrested 38 year old Michael Sullivan of Agawam, Massachusetts & 30 year old Gabrielle Graham of Pittsfield, Massachusetts for criminal possession of a controlled substance, Sullivan was additionally charged with Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. Troopers received a complaint of a disabled vehicle on I-88 in the town of Afton; they located marijuana and a smoking pipe with residue. Sullivan and Graham were arraigned in the town of Afton Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond. Their next court date is scheduled for April 23, 2018 in the town of Afton Court.
Johnson City Police Department announced that 29-year-old Corey Robinson is being detained in Marietta, Georgia, he is suspected of murdering 46 year old Erika Smith Cunningham, who was found dead at 92 Crocker Avenue Sunday morning. An arrest warrant was issued on Thursday and Robinson was taken into custody a few hours later. Robinson will be charged with 2nd degree murder, Extradition proceedings have begun, Robinson is expected to be returned to Broome County in about a week.
The controversial NG Advantage natural gas compressor station project in Port Crane is being scrapped by the company, even after they received approval for the project by the Town of Fenton planning board a year ago. NG sold some of the property already to Carrier Services Corporation of Ohio; they are expected to request a rezoning of the property for commercial or industrial activity.

Binghamton police are investigating the shooting of 40 year old Grady Hunter on Sunday, Hunter was hospitalized with life threatening injuries, Police reported that Hunter was sitting in his car outside a Deli at 121 Susquehanna Street at around 12:00 Noon Sunday. Governor Cuomo today issued a Travel Advisory for all areas east of I-81 as well as a travel ban on tractor trailers on certain roads beginning at 8:00 AM, due to the winter weather conditions. Once the advisory and ban go into effect, all tractor trailers, tandem trailers, buses, box trucks, and other high profile vehicles will be restricted from entering: I-88 from Binghamton to Albany, I-81 from Pennsylvania line to the New York State Thruway, & Route 17 Binghamton to I-84.
State Police arrested 23 year old Mark Allen of Fenton for Criminal Possession Marihuana. Allen was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by troopers for numerous traffic violations in the town of Windsor. An investigation revealed that Allen had approximately 100 grams of marijuana in his possession. Allen was released on tickets returnable to the town of Windsor Court on March 6, 2018.
New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard Ball warns consumers not to consume The Maiden’s Creamery “Wild Meadow” raw goat milk cheese made by Mark Harvey, of South New Berlin, due to possible Listeria contamination. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this product, the label shows plant number 36-1315, with a code of 101. This product was sold at the Cooperstown Farmers’ Market, in late December and early January and at the Sunflower Natural Foods Market, Woodstock, starting on January 10th. Tuesday's Amber Alert in Western New York was cancelled, as 12 year old McKenzie Wilson of Lyndon was found safe, and 18 year old Joshua Monette & 16 year old John Harvey were charged with unlawful imprisonment, criminal possession of a weapon, grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, Monette was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child. The 2 are accused of kidnapping 12-year-old McKenzie Wilson from her home early Tuesday Morning & left in a stolen Pick Up Truck. Wilson was found safe in Farmersville Tuesday night.

Officials with The Spiedie Fest in Binghamton announced that Dennis DeYoung & the music of Styx, Blue Oyster Cult and Eddie Money will headline this year's Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally. The festival will be held August 4th through the 6th this year, at Otsiningo Park in Binghamton.
A new Sienna College poll finds Governor Cuomo is at his highest approval rating in 3 years. 61% of voters now say they view him favorably overall, and just over half 51% like the job he’s doing in office. Sienna officials said that Cuomo's rise in popularity has steadily increased since President Trump’s inauguration on January 20th. The governor rated positively for higher education and human rights, but Cuomo needs to work on taxes, infrastructure and the economy.

A man whose name was synonymous with the General Clinton Canoe Regatta has died at the age of 78. Dick Davies died on Saturday; he was a 1970 Regatta champion, served for many years on the Regatta Committee and was instrumental in the development of the Regatta Museum & Hall of Fame. Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 35 year old Brian Bennett of Stamford, on an arrest warrant issued by Stamford Town Court for criminal mischief. The arrest is follows an investigation into an assault in a parking lot on January 19th, where Bennett allegedly attempted to assault Stamford Firemen on the scene & damaged the windshield of a Stamford Fireman’s personal vehicle, causing damage of more than $250 dollars. Bennet was remanded back to the Delaware County Jail on $10,000 cash bail.
US Senator Chuck Schumer wants the National Transportation Safety Board to conduct an investigation of small plane crashes, following 2 more crashes last month and at 18 crashes in New York State last year. Schumer cited a February 19th crash of a single-engine plane that took off from Long Island and crashed into a neighborhood in Bayonne, New Jersey, as well as a February 26th crash of a plane being used for practice at another Long Island airport, where 2 people were killed.

37 year old Robert Stutzer of Stamford has been charged with arson & criminal Mischief in connection with an alleged arson at 2630 State Highway 7 in the town of Unadilla last Thursday. State Police reported that Stutzer was arrested shortly after the report of a fire at that location on February 16th, the investigation is continuing.

New York placed seventh nationally in the percentage of public high school graduates succeeding on Advanced Placement exams in 2016, moving up from eighth the year before, according to a College Board report released Wednesday. New York, which in 2008 led the nation and in 2012 was second, trailed other states that have surged ahead — including Massachusetts, which ranked No. 1 for the first time, with 31% of their high school graduates scoring a "3" or higher on last year's AP exam. Maryland ranked 2nd, followed by Connecticut, Florida, California & Virginia & then New York.

Oneonta Police announced that 17-year-old Kobe Kimble and 17-year-old Gabriel Perez were arrested in connection to the knifepoint robbery of a SUNY Oneonta student in December. The teens were charged with Robbery, 4th degree Grand Larceny, Kimble was also charged with Criminal possession of a weapon, Menacing, & Petty Larceny. Perez was also charged with Petty Larceny and Harassment. Both were arraigned in & were held on $15,000 bail or $30,000 bond and remanded to the custody of the Otsego County Sheriff Department.
Sidney village police arrested 23-year-old Shane Fallon of Norwich for 1 count of 1st degree sexual abuse for allegedly abusing a child under the age of 11. Fallon was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000 cash bail pending future court action. Norwich Police, The Otsego County Sheriff’s Department & the Otsego County department of Social Services, assisted Sidney Police in the investigation.

State Police arrested 35 year old Tyson Haskins of Deposit, for Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia. The arrest occurred after a Trooper checked on an occupied vehicle that was stopped on Michigan Hollow Road in the Town of Deposit. Haskins was found to unlawfully possess needles, drug paraphernalia, an electronic scale, and about 1.75 grams of methamphetamine. Haskins was arraigned in the Town of Deposit Court and was remanded to the Broome County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 property Bond.
Governor Cuomo today announced the first-in-the-nation cyber security regulation to protect New York's financial services industry and consumers from the ever-growing threat of cyber-attacks would take effect on March 1, 2017. The final regulation requires banks, insurance companies, and other financial services institutions regulated by the Department of Financial Services to establish and maintain a cybersecurity program designed to protect consumers' private data and ensure the safety and soundness of New York's financial services industry. The regulation will be become effective upon publication in the New York State Register on March 1, 2017.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's office released audits of 2 area towns this week. The audit for the Town of Colchester shows that the Board does not have a written fund balance policy that addresses reasonable levels to be maintained, also the Board underestimated revenues by 7 percent and overestimated expenditures by 18 percent, on average, in the general fund. The Town of Greene's audit shows that the Board did not develop realistic budgets for its four major operating funds, Town officials have not developed a policy for acceptable levels of fund balance to maintain & Town officials have not developed long-term financial and capital plans.
State Police arrested 27 year old Tina Keirnan of Unadilla for 2 counts of Criminal Mischief & 2nd degree Harassment & 26 year old Ashley Mellio of Mastic, New York for 3rd degree assault. Troopers repsonded to the report of a fight, where Keirnan had struck Mellio in the face and would not let her call the police for help, both women were arrested. Keirnan & Mellio were issued tickets to the Town of Unadilla Court later this month.
State Police arrested 44 year old Peter Provenzano of Westford for 3rd degree Assault & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, after troopers responded to a dispute in the Town of Westford. Troopers determined that during an argument Provenzano punched a child in the face causing an injury. The victim was treated at a local hospital & was released. Provenzano was arraigned and was released, he faces court action on February 22nd.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of a snowmobile accident in the Town of Stamford & the discharge of gunshots by a property owner during an argument with snowmobiler. Deputies accuse 37 years old Willem Joosse of Hobart intentionally drove a snowmobile into a horse enclosure, until the property owners confronted him. Joose allegedly threatened to run over the owners, 57-year-old Joseph Laskowski retrieved a shotgun, and fired shots into the air. Deputies arrested Joosse for snowmobiling while intoxicated, criminal mischief, menacing, trespassing and operating an unregistered & uninsured snowmobile. Deputies also charged Laskowski with Menacing, both subjects were issued appearance tickets and were released, they will return to Town of Stamford Court at a later date.

State Police arrested 23-Year-Old Daniel Baker of Oneonta, for Aggravated DWI with a BAC result of .22%, plus unlawful possession of marihuana. This arrest occurred after a trooper observed Baker driving the wrong way on State Route 28 in the Town of Oneonta. Baker was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Oneonta court on October 11th.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 40-year-old Ian Lyle of Unadilla, on 1 count of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated following an investigation of 1car motor vehicle accident in May in the Town of Sidney. Lyle is accused of driving with a BAC of .20% following results of a Toxicology report. Lyle was released on a traffic ticket returnable to Sidney Town Court at a later date.
36-year-old Chamell Hampton pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to 2nd degree Rape, Hampton admitted engaging in sexual contact with an adult female who was incapable of consent by reason of being physically helpless. Hampton was a Broome County Sheriff’s Correction Officer at the time of the September 2014 attack, Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell announced that Hampton would serve 4 years in New York State Prison, with 3 years post-release supervision, when he is sentenced on December 13th.

The city of Oneonta has contracted with an outside firm to replace drainage & water utilities at the intersection of Chestnut Street & West Street. The Chenango County Sheriff's department announced the arrest of 2 people in connection with the murder of 58-year-old David Green in Oxford last weekend. 42-year-old Melissa Crispell of Oxford & 46 year old Jeremy Coates of Norwich were charged with Green's Murder, both arraigned in the Town of Oxford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail, pending future court action.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Department reported that 42 year old Scott Gross of Windsor was killed when a tractor trailer hit his disabled Jeep on Route 17 in Windsor, early Thursday morning. Gross suffered traumatic injuries and died at the scene, after his vehicle was hit from behind by a tractor trailer driven by 42 year old Anthony Baker of Solvay, at about 1:30 AM Thursday, both vehicles went over an embankment. Baker was taken to Wilson Hospital for head injuries, he was released, and no tickets were issued.
State Police and local law enforcement statewide will be increasing patrols to combat drunk and impaired driving this Memorial Day weekend. Memorial Day is one of the busiest travel holidays of the year and police will be out in force to remove impaired and reckless drivers from our highways. The initiative starts today and runs until Monday. Drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols by State Police and local law enforcement agencies during this holiday weekend.

The Delaware county sheriffs department arrested 2 Walton men on drug charges following the execution of a Search Warrant Friday. Arrested were 29-year-old Cory Costello and 27-year-old Antonio Felice, deputies seized . heroin, prescription controlled substances, hypodermic instruments, marijuana and nearly $500 cash. Felice was also in possession of a Public Assistance Benefit card. Costello and Felice were each charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, more charges are expected. Both were arraigned in the Town of Walton Court & were remanded to the Delaware County Jail, Felice was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail, Costello was held on$50,000 cash bail.
Governor Cuomo announced $74.2 million in grant awards for 6 projects to transform and improve the delivery of health care in Southern Tier. The awards are being made through the Capital Restructuring Financing Program and Essential Health Care Provider Support Program. Locally, the United Health Services Hospitals will receive $14,332,500 for the STRIPPS Information Technology Infrastructure & Delaware Valley Hospital will receive $1,400,000 for the Telemedicine Project in Partnership with UHS.
The percentage of school districts initially planning to override New York’s property tax cap in 2016-17 has nearly doubled when compared to last year, but still remains relatively small, according to preliminary data filed with the office of State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. As of March 2nd, 6 percent, or 36, of the 601 school districts that reported, indicated that they would seek an override of the tax cap. Last year, 3.5 percent, indicated plans to override the tax cap. Property tax levy growth for school districts is capped at 0.12 percent above current levels for the 2016-17 fiscal year. School budgets head to voters for approval on Tuesday, May 17th.
A Town of Columbus resident was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office on an active Arrest Warrant for Grand Larceny. Deputies arrested 40 year old Shawn Loomis, following an investigation into the report of $1,600 worth of stolen equipment, Loomis is accused of possessing & selling the equipment, he was taken into custody without incident and arraigned in the Town of Columbus Court to reappear at a later date.
On Sunday, Chenango County Deputies arrested Bernt Hansen of Afton for DWI, after an investigation of a motor vehicle accident. Hansen was also issued tickets for Failure to keep right, leaving the scene of a property damage motor vehicle accident and refusal to take a breath test; he was released to a sober third party and is to appear in the Town of Greene Court at a later date.
A 20-year-old Bashiem Jenkins of Norwich was arrested Saturday for criminal possession of a controlled substance following a traffic stop in the city of Norwich. Jenkins was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on bail pending future court action.
State Police arrested 47 year old Steven Scott of Unadilla, Saturday for the felony of criminal possession of a weapon, plus petty larceny & possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle. Trooper reoponded to the report of clothing being taken from the House of Consignment on Main Street in Unadilla. Scott was located nearby in his vehicle, a search of the vehicle found that Scott unlawfully possessed a loaded .22 caliber rifle and the stolen clothing from the store. Scott is a convicted felon & is not legally allowed to possess firearms. Scott was arraigned & was remanded to the Otsego County jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 property bond pending court action on March 11th.
The Delaware County Department of Economic Development is pleased to announce the acceptance of grant applications for consideration under the County’s recently awarded Agricultural Microenterprise Program. The $200,000 federally-funded Agricultural Microenterprise Program is a continuation of the program which began in 2015 and will continue to focus on two primary components of business development: education and financial assistance. Governor Cuomo signed an executive order to expedite the freedom of information law appeals process. The order fast-tracks FOIL appeals by requiring that all state agencies file notice of an appeal, settle the record on appeal, and file a brief within 60 days, absent extraordinary circumstances outside agency control. Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded to a one-car motor vehicle accident on State Highway 28 in the Town of Meredith. Deputies arrested 28-year-old Benjamin Nobel of Meridale for driving while ability impaired by drugs and unlawful possession of marijuana, plus several traffic summons related to the accident. Nobel was arranged in the Town of Delhi Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1,000 cash bail. Noble is to re-appear in the Town of Meredith Court at a later date.
State Police arrested 25-year-old Dustin Phillips of Binghamton for criminal possession of a weapon, after troopers responded to assist an Environmental Conservation Officer who was out with three men shooting on state lands in the Town of Kirkwood. An investigation determined that Phillips and two other men where shooting shotguns at targets, Phillips is on parole and also is a convicted felon who cannot legally possess firearms; he faces court action on Tuesday.

State Police arrested 19-year-old Elizabeth Grace of Palm Beach, Florida for 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and Possessing a Controlled Substance in a Non-Original Container. The arrest followed a traffic stop for speeding, at about 110 mph, on I-88 in the Town of Maryland. Grace is accused of unlawfully possessing Amphetamine pills, Adderall pills, Ritalin pills, marihuana cigarettes and other drug related items, she was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on bail pending future court action.

The State Environmental Facilities Corporation & the State Department of Health announced that $50 million in water infrastructure grants is now available for local governments for critical water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades. Broome County fire investigators have released the names of the 4 family members who died in a house fire on State Line Road in the town of Vestal Thursday morning. 33-year-old Nicole Tarbox, her son, 13-year old Evyn, and her two daughters, 9-year-old Mya, and 3-year old Mariah were killed, 15 year old Shawn Tarbox survived after he jumped out of a 2nd floor window. Investigators believe that the fire originated in the first floor kitchen near a stairway, which trapped family members inside.
