State Police were dispatched Christmas day at about 12:30 PM to assist the Oneonta City Fire Department with a fully engulfed single wide trailer at the Oneida Village Mobile Home Park on Oneida Street. Fire personnel located a deceased male in the residence. State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene, the deceased man has been identified as 50 year old Aaron Blakeslee, who resided in the trailer. Oneonta Fire Department reported that 1 dog and 2 cats also died in the fire, there were no injuries to any firefighters. Investigators are working with the City of Oneonta Fire Department and State Fire Investigators to determine the cause of the fatal fire.
The State Department of Public Service announced it has expanded its investigation into NYSEG and sister company Rochester Gas & Electric, for potential mismanagement of their utilities’ billing systems and protocols. The Department’s Consumer Advocate will host a series of public forums in affected areas starting in January to hear consumer concerns first-hand, after over 4700 customers complained of sudden spikes in their electric bills of about 60% on average earlier this year. Customers t should contact the Department’s Office of Consumer Services to file a complaint at dps.ny.gov.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a Hamden man on charges stemming from a Menacing Complaint Tuesday. Deputies responded to a reported menacing complaint, Upon arrival Deputies interviewed 49-year-old Hayes Hathaway, deputies determined that Hathaway had pushed the victim from behind, displayed an axe while verbally threatening to cause harm to the victim and then terminated the victim’s electrical supply. Deputies charged Hathaway with 1 count of each of Menacing & Harassment, & was released & ordered to appear in Town of Hamden Court at a later date.
Governor Kathy Hochul signed a legislative package to crack down on pandemic fraud. The Legislation increases the award amounts given to individuals who report fraud related to a State of Emergency. Currently, private citizens can file civil lawsuits on behalf of the government to help recover defrauded money and may be rewarded a percentage of the money recovered. With this new law, whistleblowers may be eligible to receive additional money if the fraud was perpetrated during a state of emergency.

Delaware County Emergency Services announced that crews from East Meredith, Pindars Corners, Stamford & Trout Creek Fire Departments were deployed to Erie County to assist with the disaster in Western New York. All were equipped with UTV's & brought necessary supplies for a 72 hour deployment.
The State Department of Health urges New Yorkers ages 6 months and older to get a flu shot, with the Department’s latest report showing an additional pediatric death, bringing the total to 5 so far this season. The Department's new flu surveillance report shows a total of 217,094 positive influenza cases across all 62 counties in New York have been reported to date. Outside of New York City, week-over-week lab-confirmed flu cases are up 4 percent to 36,047, the report is available at nyshc.health.ny.gov.
Cortland County Sheriff’s Officers responded to the Town of Homer for a motor vehicle accident, the driver, 20 year old Lucas Walley of Walton is accused of being intoxicated & driving off of the road. Walley was charged with Driving with .08 of 1% or More of Alcohol, Driving While Intoxicated, Driving Across Hazard Markings, he was processed and released on his own recognizance with appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Homer Court.
State Police remind motorists that they are continuing to crack down on speeders, distracted drivers, intoxicated drivers & aggressive drivers, through the Holidays. State police and local law enforcement agencies will continue to keep patrols on the roads through the New Year's holiday weekend, they also remind drivers to obey the "Move Over" Law when emergency vehicles are responding to issues on the highways.

State Police arrested 45 year old James Galarneau of Albany & 43 year old Megan Laprade of Massena, for multiple counts of Petty Larceny, Conspiracy, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Scheming to Defraud. The arrests follow the investigations into separate shoplifting complaints from businesses throughout the Capital Region and in Delaware County. The investigation determined Galarneau and Laprade worked together to steal items from businesses over 20 times beginning in June, both were arrested in Rotterdam and transported to 3 State Police troops for processing, they were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Courts on a later date and released.
Voters in the Morris Central School district approved of the $14.5 Million Dollar Project Tuesday, by a vote of 105 to 53. The project will be paid for through State Aid & A capital reserve fund, a big piece of the project calls for the replacement of the bus garage, which has been in service for 71 years. Construction is expected to begin next year.
The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that 32 year old Frank Criscitello of Binghamton was sentenced to 3 years in State prison after pleading guilty in Broome County Court to Attempted Burglary. Back on March 9th, Criscitello broke into a Binghamton residence and stole money and jewelry, Binghamton Police tracked down the stolen jewelry to Criscitello and he was arrested.
Gene Schmidt announced that he & his family will again host a free Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day at the Sidney Fire Station on River Street from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM:

Sidney Native Nancy Sue Burns passed away at the age of 85 on December 8th, Nancy Sue worked at the former Tri-Town News starting in 1975 & worked there for 43 years, rising to "Editor" of the weekly newspaper. A celebration of life for Nancy Sue will be held at a later date. In memory of Nancy Sue, donations can be made to the Chenango County Hospice in Norwich, more information is available at the CH Landers Funeral Chapel website.

State Police at Norwich arrested 62 year old Thomas Brick of Chenango Forks, on 2 counts of Grand Larceny, Troopers were contacted by a victim who had made an agreement with Brick to complete home renovations but no work had been completed. The contract was made in May and the victim paid Brick $18-thousand but called the State Police after several months of no work. Brick was arrested and processed at SP Norwich. He was arraigned and scheduled for his next court date in the Greene Village Court on January 5.
The State Health Department reported the COVID 19 continues to be a concern, along with influenza variants this winter. Over 65,000 tests were conducted State Wide from Saturday through Monday, with over 4500 positive tests, or 5.3%, Patient hospitalizations are over 3500, with almost 1300 in an ICU bed & 138 on ventilators, there were 98 deaths reported over the 3 day [period.
The Unadilla Valley Central School District is proposing a capital project totaling $17.8 million, with voting scheduled for today. The renovations and improvements would be funded through state aid and an allocation from the district’s reserve funds, with no affect on taxpayers. Voting will be from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 PM in the Storm Alley.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 50 year old Andrew Frank Jr and 49 year old Rena Jones of Sherburne following a lengthy investigation & the execution of a search warrant. Frank and Jones were arrested on numerous counts of 3rd Degree Burglary and Criminal Mischief, for allegedly breaking into local businesses and stealing money and damaging property. Frank was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility with no bail. Jones was released on an appearance ticket for Village of Sherburne Court on a later date. The investigation is still on going and more charges are pending.
Voters in the Bainbridge Guilford School district approved of their Capital Project Wednesday. Voters approved by a 140-71 vote in favor of the project, a big portion of the project will improve the Athletic Fields and construct a parking lot next to the Football Field with 102 parking spaces.
The next legislative session in Albany will begin in January, local Assemblyman Joe Angelino told WCDO news that he will be watching what happens with the recently passed Environmental Bond Act:

Delaware County is announcing the opening of the Delaware County Resiliency and Income Loss Grant, which is a $941,175 grant from the CARES Act, Evan Bowker of the Delaware County Department of Economic Development explains the 2 categories that County Businesses can get funding for regarding how COVID affected their business:

Destination Oneonta will be hosting the annual Tree Lighting later today In Muller Plaza. The tree lighting is scheduled for 5:30 PM, & is open to the public.
A Recruitment Event is being held at the Norwich CDO Workforce today, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at 1 O'Hara Drive. The Raymond Corporation & T-Squared Custom Millwork are recruiting, interested workers are asked to Call the CDO Workforce Center at 607-334-2201, ext. 127 to schedule an interview time.
The Town of Sidney will hold a public meeting today at 6:30 PM, to discuss amending the Town zoning laws. The meeting will be held at The Town Building located at 44 Grand Street.

Otsego County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a property damage accident on Springfield Hill Road in the Town of Middlefield November 18th. 30 year old Katy Cole of Middlefield, is accused of fleeing the scene of the accident on foot, Deputies were able to track Cole down using the police canine, Cole was arrested & was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal of breath screening test, Leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Failure to keep right & Failure to notify DMV of an address change, she was held at the Otsego County Jail for arraignment.
The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce and Delaware Opportunities will be asking people to donate toys for the annual Toys for Tots Campaign for another week, Chamber President Ray Pucci explains:

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a trespass complaint in the Town of Davenport last week. 73 year old George Sydlar is accused of cutting his neighbors barbed wire fence that was dividing their 2 properties. Sydlar was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief. He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Davenport Court at a later date.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested Nathan Clements of Chenango County following a traffic stop in the Town of Laurens. Clemens was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle, No distinctive plate, Failure to notify DMV of an address change & Disobeying a traffic control device, he was issued appearance tickets for Laurens Court at a later date.

The Chenango County Health Department is urging everyone six months and older to receive a flu vaccine as cases of influenza rise across the state. Statistics show that the flu season is ramping up early, with flu hospitalizations higher at this point in the season than they have been in a decade. Flu is also spreading at the same time as other respiratory illnesses, including RSV and COVID-19. Over 81,000 were tests were conducted with 7,110 new positive cases, for a 7.86% positivity rate, Patient Hospitalization increased to 3,293, with more than 300 patients since Friday, there were 288 Patients in an ICU bed & 115 on ventilators, and there were 18 more deaths attributed to the virus Tuesday in Hospitals & nursing homes.

Otsego County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a property damage accident on Springfield Hill Road in the Town of Middlefield November 18th. 30 year old Katy Cole of Middlefield, is accused of fleeing the scene of the accident on foot, Deputies were able to track Cole down using the police canine, Cole was arrested & was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal of breath screening test, Leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Failure to keep right & Failure to notify DMV of an address change, she was held at the Otsego County Jail for arraignment.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a trespass complaint in the Town of Davenport last week. 73 year old George Sydlar is accused of cutting his neighbors barbed wire fence that was dividing their 2 properties. Sydlar was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief. He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Davenport Court at a later date.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested Nathan Clements of Chenango County following a traffic stop in the Town of Laurens. Clemens was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle, No distinctive plate, Failure to notify DMV of an address change & Disobeying a traffic control device, he was issued appearance tickets for Laurens Court at a later date.

The Chenango County Health Department is urging everyone six months and older to receive a flu vaccine as cases of influenza rise across the state. Statistics show that the flu season is ramping up early, with flu hospitalizations higher at this point in the season than they have been in a decade. Flu is also spreading at the same time as other respiratory illnesses, including RSV and COVID-19. The State Health Department reports increases in COVID 19 cases Tuesday. Over 81,000 were tests were conducted with 7,110 new positive cases, for a 7.86% positivity rate, Patient Hospitalization increased to 3,293, with more than 300 patients since Friday, there were 288 Patients in an ICU bed & 115 on ventilators, and there were 18 more deaths attributed to the virus Tuesday in Hospitals & nursing homes.

Ganesh Ramsaran of New Berlin will be granted a new murder trial soon in Chenango County Court, the decision follows the claim that Ramsaran received incompetent counsel from his attorney Gil Garcia, who had inflated his litigation experience & was eventually censured by the Supreme Court of New Jersey. In 2014 Ramsaran was found guilty of killing his estranged wife Jennifer in December 2012 & was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison, he has been appealing his conviction & sentence for 8 years.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced that a new VA clinic will be opening soon at the Foxcare Center in Oneonta, replacing the one that has been in Bainbridge for several years, Peter Potter of the Albany Veterans Affairs office said that the clinics usage is examined every 5 years, and usage of the Bainbridge clinic was down:

The State Department of Health today released its County Opioid Quarterly Report for October 2022, showing a 14% increase in 2021 overdose deaths involving opioids over the prior year. The Governor's Office & the state DMV announced that hundreds of people received tickets during the recent seasonal crackdown on Fake ID's used to purchase alcoholic beverages. 580 fake documents were seized and a total of 505 tickets were issued, with an additional 46 tickets issued for violations of the Alcohol Beverage and Control Law.

The International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers Local #1529 voted on Saturday to strike against Amphenol in Sidney following the latest 3 year contract proposal. The vote was held Saturday morning at the Sidney School District, picket lines have been set up at the Amphenol plants. The Union's Website stated that the 700 striking workers are looking for a contract that improves healthcare and paid sick leave benefits, and eliminated the two-tier wage system currently in place.
Attorney General Letitia James today announced that 88 firearms were turned in to law enforcement at a gun buyback event hosted by her office and the Binghamton Police Department. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) accepts, working and non-working, unloaded firearms in exchange for compensation on site. To date, Attorney General James has taken more than 3,600 firearms out of communities through gun buyback events since 2019.
State tax receipts totaled $58.4 billion through the first half of State Fiscal Year, exceeding the latest projections from the 1st Quarterly Update, according to the September State Cash Report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Personal income tax receipts totaled $33.2 billion and were $2.4 billion above the state Division of the Budget’s latest financial plan projections through September 30.

Only 1 case of polio has been identified, but ongoing wastewater surveillance provides evidence of repeated polio-virus detections in sewage samples throughout the state. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Christopher Lacey of Downsville for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident on October 5th on River Road in the Town of Colchester. Deputies reported that the driver left the scene, Walton Police located Lacey, who's driving privileges were revoked for refusing to submit to a chemical test. Lacey was issued an appearance ticket for the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

With residential energy costs expected to rise nationwide this winter, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling for emergency supplemental funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program or "LIHEAP":

Senator Gillibrand said that over 1 million New York households get LIHEAP support to heat their homes, but additional funding is needed with the rising prices. Gillibrand said she favors the idea for the state to go back to a program where families that received help through SNAP, would automatically get LIHEAP assistance, without extra paperwork or bureaucracy.
Firefighters from Windsor, West Windsor, Five Mile Point and Kirkwood responded to a structure fire at 24 Riley Road this morning just before 6:00 AM. 1 occupant safely escaped the fire, the investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced nearly $7.9 million is being awarded through the Climate Resilient Farming Grant Program to help over 70 farms across the state reduce their environmental footprints and prepare for extreme weather events related to climate change. Locally, in the Southern Tier, a Total Award, of more than $693,000 will distributed, the Delaware Soil & Water Conservation District was awarded $159,160 to assist three farms.
State Police will be participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics, starting tomorrow. The mission of the Law Enforcement Torch Run is to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics movement. This year, Troop B will be running in Plattsburgh, tomorrow morning starting at 11:00 AM.

Numerous animals were removed & were taken to the Susquehanna SPCA for evaluation & treatment, so far, no charges have been announced against the owner of the animals.

State Police arrested 56 year old Francesco Carotenuto of Schenevus for 1st degree rape, he was previously arrested on charges for Promoting Sexual Performance by a Child and Possessing Sexual Performance by a Child on September 8, 2022. After a further investigation, Investigators learned that Carotenuto forcibly engaged in sexual intercourse with a victim several years ago. Carotenuto was in jail for the previous charges, he was processed and returned to jail.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 68 year old Peter Maguire of East Meredith following a trespass investigation in Walton. On August 11th, Deputies responded to a report of a male entering onto and trespassing on several properties in the Village of Walton. After the investigation, the Village of Walton Court issued a criminal summons to Maguire for trespassing, he was arrested September 10th he was released and was ordered to appear in Walton Village Court at a later date..

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the theft of a 30-foot camper from a Case Hill Road residence in the Town of Franklin. The camper was last seen on August 13th or August 14th and was reported stolen on August 27th, it is described as beige & gray colored, Keystone Ultralite Camper with New Jersey plates TXP17X. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office at 607-832-5555.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 68 year old Peter Maguire of East Meredith following a trespass investigation in Walton. On August 11th, Deputies responded to a report of a male entering onto and trespassing on several properties in the Village of Walton. After the investigation, the Village of Walton Court issued a criminal summons to Maguire for trespassing, he was arrested September 10th he was released and was ordered to appear in Walton Village Court at a later date..

The Broome County DPW will host a public information session today about the Colesville Road Safety Improvement project. Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that 31 year-old James Lynch will spend 3 ½ to 3 years in prison after pleading guilty to 3rd degree attempted robbery, in Broome County Court. Lynch forcibly stole cash from a cab driver in Binghamton in January 28, The driver reported the robbery to Binghamton Police, who located Lynch & arrested him.
The Community Arts Network will bring back the City of the Hills Art Festival, on Saturday, from 12:00 Noon into the night hours. Activities include a mural unveiling, a downtown art walk, & over 40 artists & vendors are expected, plus over 20 musical performances are scheduled, more information is available at cityofthehillsfest.org.

The Bainbridge-Guilford Board of Education voted to honor former soccer coach and technology teacher, Peter Feltham, by naming the soccer field after him, BG Superintendent Tim Ryan said that there will be a dedication tonight to the coach, and he expects a large turnout:

Governor Hochul announced that masks in New York will be "options" in some places that had previously been required. Masks are still required at healthcare facilities, nursing homes, correction facilities and domestic violence shelters. Local municipalities may chose to impllement masks rules in areas where the rate of transmission is higher.
The 28th annual Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival will be held this Saturday & Sunday in Norwich, Colorscape Chenango Vice President Laura Parker explained what makes this arts & music festival special:

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded on September 3rd to Domestic Dispute in the Town of Hamden, between Christopher Yeary and a victim that had an Order of Protection against him. Yeary left the scene & Deputies located him a short time later, he physically obstructed uniformed police officers attempting to take him into custody, he was charged with Criminal Contempt and Obstructing Governmental Administration. Yeary was arraigned in the Town of Hamden and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $40,000 cash bail or $80,000 bond, pending future court action..

The announcement follows the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's recommendation to use updated COVID-19 boosters from Pfizer for anyone age 12 or older and from Moderna for those 18 or older. The State Health Department reported that the 7 day rolling average for those tested for COVID was just under 6%, with over 2200 hundred hospitalized, 235 were in an ICU bed, with 88 on ventilators.

On October 11th last year, Carlson stole a truck and led New York State Troopers on a high-speed chase, which ended when Carlson struck a car that caused a serious physical injury to the other driver, Carlson was found under the influence of methamphetamine during the incident.
