40 year old David Tyner pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Broome County Court, in exchange for a sentence of 5 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision. On July 31, 2024, in Binghamton, Tyner was found in possession of methamphetamine with the intent to sell, the discovery occurred after Tyner was stopped by Binghamton Police for violating Traffic Laws while operating a motorized bicycle.

Initial results are in for yesterday's elections, in The Town of Sidney Eric Wilson wins re-election for Town Supervisor, the 2 seats on the Sidney Town Board, go to Andrew Hinkley & Frank Selleck. The Sidney Town Justice winner is Jennifer Ruling. In Area Town Supervisor races, in Guilford Gilda Ward is the winner, in Unadilla George Denys wins easily, in the town of Colchester, the winner is Robert Hafele, in the town of Oneonta, the winner is William Rivera Jr.. The Cities of Norwich and Oneonta will have new Mayors, Robert Jeffery will be Norwich’s next mayor, in Oneonta the winner is Dan Butterman. In the race for Delaware County Treasurer, the winner is Carli Pinner.

The City of Oneonta is accepting applications for a firefighter civil service exam to be held on January 10, 2026. The application deadline is December 10, Applications can be submitted in person or by mail to the Oneonta Civil Service Commission at City Hall at 258 Main Street and the starting salary for 2026 hires is $52,000. Unofficial results were released today regarding Tuesday's Primary Elections. In the Delaware County Republican Primary for the Treasurer's race, Carli Pinner defeated Ronda Williams with 56% of the vote, in the Town of Colchester, Robert Hafele will be the Republican candidate for Colchester Town Supervisor, David Rubera win the nomination in the Hancock town Supervisors race, James Ellis wins the nod in the Meredith Town Supervisors race, In the town of Sidney Board race, the nominees will be Frank Selleck & Andrew Hinkley, and for the Walton town board, the nominees will be Luis Rodriguez-Betancourt and Kevin Armstrong. In Chenango County, Ronald Sherman & Joel Lawrence won the Republican Party Nomination for Afton Town Board.

A Chenango County Grand Jury indicted 50-year-old Andrew Frank Jr. on several charges for a series of commercial break-ins in downtown Sherburne in November & December of last year. Frank and 49-year-old Rena Jones were arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff's Office on December 7, Frank was indicted on 3 counts of 3rd degree burglary, 3 counts of criminal mischief, & 1 count of attempt burglary, and 3 counts of petty larceny. Jones has been indicted with for 3rd degree burglary, for her role in 1 of the burglaries. Frank was arraigned in court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility with no bail. Rena was released on an appearance ticket for Village of Sherburne Court.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 50 year old Andrew Frank Jr and 49 year old Rena Jones of Sherburne following a lengthy investigation & the execution of a search warrant. Frank and Jones were arrested on numerous counts of 3rd Degree Burglary and Criminal Mischief, for allegedly breaking into local businesses and stealing money and damaging property. Frank was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility with no bail. Jones was released on an appearance ticket for Village of Sherburne Court on a later date. The investigation is still on going and more charges are pending.

In the town of Sidney, 2 candidates are seeking to be elected Supervisor, and both are Write-In Candidates following the deaths of Sidney Town Supervisor Gene Pigford a few months ago. Attorney General Letitia James declared her candidacy for governor on Friday; she will face current Governor Kathy Hochul in Democratic primary next year. James help to bring down former Governor Andrew Cuomo following an investigation by her department into sexual harassment claims made by several women against Cuomo.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that she will fire individuals who allegedly contributed to a culture that allowed for sexual harassment under former Governor Andrew Cuomo who resigned this week after the the report by Attorney General Letitia James alleged that Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women. Former Cuomo Staffer Melissa DeRosa & Linda Lacewell have already resigned, Governor Hochul said that she would finish assembling her team within 45 days of her inauguration.

The State Department of Transportation announced that State Route 28 near Frank Slawson and Epps roads in the town of Franklin will close September 7th, for a culvert replacement over Knapp Brook. DOT Officials stated that motorists on State Route 28 will be detoured to take state Route 23 to Davenport Center and then take county Highway 10 to Meridale to connect back to state Route 28, the project is expected to be completed on September 22nd.

Governor Kathy Hochul has directed the State Department of Health to institute a universal mask requirement in all public & private schools, as determined necessary at the discretion of the Commissioner. The Department of Health will issue the requirement through regulatory action established by the Public Health and Health Planning Council. Governor Hochul will also pursue options to mandate vaccines for school employees or require weekly testing in the absence of vaccines and will continue to work with the Department of Health and the Legislature on establishing the mandate.

Former Erie County Executive Joel Giambra ended his Republican bid for Governor of New York on Thursday. Giambra may continue his efforts on the Reform Party line. Giambra’s decision leaves Syracuse area State Senator John DeFrancisco as the sole prominent Republican left in the race to challenge incumbent Andrew Cuomo.

State Police arrested 33 year old Frank Bowles of Oneonta for Criminal Mischief and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. This arrest occurred after troopers responded to a fight in progress at the Lantern Hill Trailer Park, on State Route 23, in the town of Oneonta. Bowles is accused of smashing a window of a trailer when he was denied entry; Troopers located him walking in the park with lacerations to his hand. Bowles had his injuries treated at the scene by EMS, & while being arrested for damaging the window, Bowles was found to unlawfully possess about 15 grams of marijuana on his person. Bowles was arraigned before the Oneonta Town Court and subsequently remanded to the Otsego County Jail in lieu of $250.00 bail.

After a bounce in January, Governor Andrew Cuomo’s favorability & job performance ratings all fell by double digits this month, according to a new Siena College poll of New York State registered voters. Cuomo’s favorability rating is 53%, down from 62% last month, and his job performance rating went down to 45% from 50% in January.

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro announced that he will not seek the Republican Party Nomination to run against Incumbent Democrat Andrew Cuomo for Governor this year. Molinaro is the 2nd Republican in a week to back out of the race, after Harry Wilson said that he won't run for Governor, after more consideration. Assembly Minority Republican Leader Brian Kolb said he is launching a campaign. State Senator John DeFrancisco of Syracuse, is also considering a run.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies announced that Luis Rojas will return to as manager for the 2018 season. Rojas will be joined by pitching coach Frank Viola, hitting coach Valentino Pascucci, bench coach Luis Rivera. Walton Supervisor Charles Gregory is re-elected, the Franklin Town Council winners were David Grant & Garret Sitts, Oneonta mayor Gary Herzig is re-elected, Oneonta Town Supervisor Robert Wood is re-elected, Oneonta town council Winners were Patricia Jacob & Randy Mowers, Butternuts town board Winners were Paul Irwin & Scot Lueck, for the Norwich City Council 4th Ward: Linda Kays Biviano wins, Norwich Town Council seats go to Stanley Foulds & Debra Cubbedge, the Otselic Supervisor is Marjorie Davis & Oxford Supervisor, incumbent Lawrence Wilcox wins. The proposition for all state voters: the Constitutional Convention was defeated, Cutting Public Pensions for convicted officials was approved, and allowing expansion of roads & bike paths in the Catskills & Adirondacks is too close to call. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, & the Chenango County Bureau of Fire, is investigating a fire at 108 County Road 21 in the Town of Plymouth that claimed the life of Plymouth Fire Chief Frank Fowlston Monday. The fire was reported at about 2:00 AM, it appeared to have started in the living room. Fowlston was discovered inside the residence, the autopsy was conducted at Lourdes Hospital, it was determined that Fowlston died of smoke inhalation. Fire Departments from Plymouth, Norwich, North Norwich, Smyrna, and Sherburne fought the blaze, the cause is still under investigation.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Department Investigators arrested 38-year-old Jennifer Fogliano of Masonville on a Bench Warrant from Village of Sidney Court for Failure to Appear on a Grand Larceny charge. When officers responded to Fogliano’s residence, occupants locked themselves in rooms and refused to comply. Officers eventually arrested Fogliano, 37-year-old Jarred Cutting of Masonville, 31-year-old Andrew Baker of Masonville, 22-year-old Ashley Murphy of Sidney Center for Obstructing Governmental Administration. Murphy is accused of possessing Methamphetamine, she was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. All were arraigned in the Town of Sidney Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1000 cash bail or $2000 bond. Foglianoa was also arraigned on the Bench Warrant on an additional $1000 cash bail or $2000 bond.

New Chenango county judge Frank Revoir was sworn into office Tuesday at the Chenango County Courthouse.  Revoir was sworn in as Chenango County, Family and Surrogate Court Judge, for a 10-year term.  Revoir replaces outgoing Chenango County Court Judge Howard Sullivan, who retired at the end of the year.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie released a joint statement, regarding the US House of representatives failing to go along with a senate proposal to send hurricane sandy aid to both states.  The governors said that the continued inaction and indifference by the House was inexcusable & unprecedented. Hurricane sandy pounded the jersey shore and New York City and its suburbs in late October, causing an estimated 1 billion dollars in damage.
