Governor Hochul announced $110 million in State funding to improve emergency communications systems and dispatching capabilities through 2 programs. Through the SICG-Formula Grant Program, $90 million is being awarded to support efforts to bolster communications networks, locally, Chennago County gets $968,000, Delaware County 1.16 Million Dollars & Otsego County gets 1.2 Million dollars. Also, The PSAP Operations Grant Program provides funding to support county 911 centers, with Chenango getting $310,000, Delaware & Otsego Counties get almost $320,000 each.

State Police arrested 20 year old Isaiah Owens-Chamorro of Oneonta, for Criminal Mischief, after Troopers were dispatched to Thetford’s Auto Shop on Keith Street in the town of Oneonta. Owens-Chamorro’s vehicle had been impounded & was being stored there, he requested permission to retrieve personal belongings, instead, he drove the vehicle from the property without paying the tow bill and damaged a gate while leaving the premises. A trooper observed the vehicle on State Route 23 and conducted a traffic stop, Owens-Chamorro was taken into custody, and the vehicle was towed back to Thetford’s. Owens-Chamorro was processed and issued an appearance ticket to the Oneonta Town Court on August 4th.
The Village of Sidney announced that the Village Clerk’s office will be open starting Monday, they will operate out of the Former DMV office in the Sidney Civic Center until ceiling repairs are completed in the regular clerk’s office.

47 year old Neil Wesley was sentenced to 25 years in prison for receipt and possession of child pornography in US District Court. As part of his guilty plea, Wesley admitted he had been previously convicted of rape in New York in 2001, he also admitted that from at least December 2024 through February 2025 he received and distributed child pornography & he possessed over 200 images and 18 videos of child pornography. In addition to the 25-year imprisonment term, United States District Judge Anthony J. Brindisi imposed 15 years of supervised release, forfeiture and directed restitution to victims of the offense.

State Police were dispatched to a crash on State Route 41A in the town of Homer. When Troopers arrived, they found a male in an Amazon uniform on the shoulder of the roadway and a white van on its passenger side, off the roadway with live wires on top of the vehicle. 28 year old Abel Negash of Syracuse, had his van exit the roadway, striking a National Grid pole, he sustained a laceration to his hand and was treated by EMT's at the scene. Negash failed a Field Sobriety Test, he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, his B.A.C was .13%. He was issued appearance tickets to the Homer Town Court on June 16, 2026, and turned over to a sober third party.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced $185 million dollars in EPA funding to protect New York from exposure to lead in drinking water. 47 year old Thomas Grimsley of Oneonta man faces 20 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to predatory sexual assault for assaulting 2 children in Rensselaer County. Grimsley admitted to sexually abusing two children under the age of 11, after the children reported the abuse to State Police, he faces sentencing on July 20.

State Police arrested 40 year old Shawn Kerwin of Windsor for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger Less than 16 (Leandra’s Law). troopers were dispatched early Monday to a vehicle fire on Old Route 17 in the town of Windsor. An investigation revealed that Kerwin got a flat tire but decided to continue driving, he saw sparks coming from the tire area which ultimately caused the vehicle to catch fire. He and his passenger, a teenager, were able to safely get out of the vehicle without any injuries. Kerwin failed Field Sobriety Tests, He was processed then transported to the Broome County Jail for Arraignment.

State Police arrested 44 year old Adam Smith of Nineveh following an investigation into a stolen Pick up. Smith was charged with Possession of a Forged Instrument, Grand Larceny, Criminal Tax Fraud, Falsifying Business Records along with other similar charges, On March 12, a Trooper was dispatched to a report of a Ford Super Cab stolen from Bainbridge. Troopers spoke to Smith, he claimed he was in possession of the truck, that he purchased the truck in January & returned on March 11 to retrieve it. Troopers learned the truck was registered to both Smith and to the victim, that Smith stole the truck, illegally obtained the title and forged the owners signature, which he submitted to the DMV, Smith was transported to the Delaware County Jail for Arraignment, He is scheduled to appear at the Guilford Town Court on April 28th for 2 charges & Sidney Village Court at a later date to answer to 4 felony charges.

New York had one of the steepest drops of any state in international tourism in 2025, due to the federal Tariffs, with a loss of 176,000 visitors, 2nd only to California, according to an analysis by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The report showed that as fewer visitors means less spending, which led to a smaller number of jobs in hotels and restaurants. The impact was most acute for the North Country & western New York near the Canadian border, where travel from Canada fell by more than 21%.

The State Department of Motor Vehicles announced that their department helped New Yorkers recover more than $13.6 million in stolen vehicles, titles, parts and services during 2025. The department reported that 384 Stolen Vehicles were Recovered in 2025 Worth $10.4 Million, and an Additional $3.2 Million Recouped in Titles, Repairs and Refunds, That number is an increase from $11 million recovered in 2024.

The State DMV is urging New York Vehicle Owners to check their vehicles for safety recalls as part of Vehicle Safety Recalls Week this week through March 8th. State Department of Motor Vehicles officials stated that 1 out of every 5 cars on the road had an open recall, which amounts to about 2 million vehicles in New York, go to dmv.ny.gov to see if your vehicle has a recall.

The Grand Union grocery store on East Main Street in Norwich is closing On March 7th, leaving many city without its only local grocery option within walking distance of Downtown. City officials are working with state & federal representatives to try to bring a centrally located grocery store to downtown Norwich. The Grand Union in Hartwick Seminary is also schedule to close permanently this week.

State Forest Rangers & the Otsego County Sheriff's Office conducted a Wilderness Search On December 25 at 6:18 pm., the Sheriff’s Office called for assistance in the search for a patient who jumped out of an ambulance. The ambulance was transporting the 47-year-old unidentified Unadilla resident from Fox Hospital to Bassett Medical Center, Ambulance personnel pursued the patient but lost sight near Walnut and Linden Streets, they searched a wooded area, about 5 hours later, a civilian notified Rangers that someone was pounding on the front door of a house on Linden Street, a Deputy found the patient sitting at the bus stop shelter and drove the patient to the hospital.

Existing companies have until the end of the year to file, while any new LLC's formed on or after January 1, 2026, January 1 have to submit the information within 30 days of formation.

38 year old Duprey Range of Binghamton pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Criminal Possession of a Weapon and will be sentenced to 7½ years in State Prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision. Range also pleaded guilty to Attempted Aggravated Harassment of an Employee by an Inmate, in exchange for a sentence of ½ to 3 years in State Prison, to be served concurrently with the sentence on the weapons conviction. Sentencing is scheduled for March 25, 2026, in Broome County Court.
The State Department of Motor Vehicles reported that New York State saw a drop in the number of fatal crashes in 2025 compared to 2024. From January 2025 to October 2025, there were 681 recorded motor vehicle fatalities, a decrease from the 766 deaths reported during the same time frame in 2024. In the upstate counties, the number of fatalities fell from 490 in 2024 to 420. Fatal motorcycle crashes also dropped in 2025, from 157 to 134.

State Police issued a total of 12,062 tickets statewide during the Memorial Day Weekend enforcement campaign, that ran from Friday May 23rd to Monday, May 26th. Troopers arrested 245 people for DWI and investigated 774 crashes, with three fatal crashes reported. Locally, Troopers reported 15 DWI arrests, 299 Speeding tickets, 26 Distracted Driving tickets, 126 Seat Belt violations and 31 move over law violators.

State Police Superintendent Steven James announced that a meeting was held at Troop A in Batavia regarding human trafficking & other security issues at the Northern Border. State Police officials met with those from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, the Buffalo Police Department, Erie County Sheriff's Office, Niagara Falls Police Department, and the New York State Park Police. The meeting was held in light of more trafficking issues coming across the Canadian border into the US in increasing numbers.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 47 year old Eric Bormann of Laurens, on 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Possession of a Firearm and Harassment. Deputies responded to a domestic dispute in the Town of Laurens, Bormann was also found to be in possession of a semi-automatic handgun without a State Pistol Permit, he was issued an Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Laurens Town Court at a later date.
State Police reported that 3 people were transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center after a serious crash in the town of Nanticoke, at about 3:00 PM Sunday. Troopers were dispatched to Nanticoke Road and Henry M. Baldwin Street in the town of Nanticoke for an accident with injuries. An initial investigation indicates that an SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed struck a pick-up truck that was turning left onto Nanticoke Road. The SUV continued off the roadway and overturned. All three occupants of the SUV were transported by ambulance to UHS Wilson Medical Center for serious injuries. The occupant of pick-up truck was not injured. The investigation is on-going.
The State DMV is warning customers to be aware of the latest phishing scam, where bad actors seek to gain access to personal information by pretending to be from the DMV. This is the latest in a series of text message phishing schemes that DMV has warned New Yorkers to avoid. Previous scams have claimed that E-ZPass accounts were about to be suspended. DMV provides information on these phishing attacks on its website at dmv.ny.gov.

State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs increased over the month by 5,600, to 8,464,400 in March. New York State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 4.3% in February to 4.2% in March, The statewide labor force participation rate held steady at 60.9% in March 2025.

Last year, for the 1st time, more than 50% of New Yorkers had registered to become organ and tissue donors through New York’s Organ Donor Registry. More than 80% enroll in the registry do so through the DMV. Currently there are 7,917 New Yorkers awaiting an organ transplant, almost 500 New Yorkers each year, die while waiting for a transplant.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 19 year old Kenyon Pickens of Guilford for reckless Endangerment, following an investigation into a 3 car accident on April 11th. Pickens is accused of attempting to avoid being stopped by a marked patrol unit, by accelerating his vehicle and driving in a reckless manner, Pickens failed to stop at a stop sign, resulting in a 3-car motor-vehicle accident at the intersection of State Highway 8 and County Road 37. Pickens was processed and was released on an appearance ticket for Town of Guilford Court at a later date.

The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that Jeremy Lewis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was found guilty by a jury for possessing a loaded and defaced handgun. Lewis faces 15 years in State Prison as a Second time Felony Offender, in October 2023, the Endicott Police Department were called to a residence for a report of a disturbance, they found Lewis was in possession of a loaded firearm, which was identified as a 22 Caliber Semi-Automatic handgun which had been defaced.
Governor Kathy Hochul launched the ConnectALL Deployment Program Request for Applications, or RFA, to secure internet service to unserved locations across New York State. ConnectALL will accept applications from April 15 through May 5 to fund projects deploying traditional fiber optic, cable, hybrid fiber-coaxial, licensed fixed wireless broadband service, and federally designated alternative technologies such as unlicensed fixed wireless and low-earth orbit satellite services. New York State is investing $1 billion to the program.
Tax collections for State Fiscal Year 2024-25 totaled $117.5 billion, $2.1 billion higher than forecast by the Division of the Budget in the Executive Budget Financial Plan, according to State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. Tax collections were higher due, in part, to increased personal income tax receipts resulting from financial market growth. All Funds spending totaled $241.5 billion, 2.8%, higher than last year. State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's auditors found that New York state bought hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of medical equipment at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, that now sits unused in storage facilities. To compete for the purchase of the medical equipment at the start of the pandemic, Then Governor Cuomo took emergency steps to accelerate the procurement process, inconsistent with Office of General Services guidance. DiNapoli's auditors determined the state paid $452.8 million to purchase 247,343 Medical items & machines, only 324 of those items were distributed, the audit recommends that the state distribute the items to hospitals & medical providers who may be able to use them, and stop paying for excessive storage fees for those items.

New York State residents are reminded to learn about the different types of driver’s licenses, available through the Department of Motor Vehicles. A REAL ID will be required for domestic air travel and access to certain federal buildings starting May 7th, an Enhanced Driver's License serves as a REAL ID compliant document that allows for land and sea travel to Canada, Mexico, and Caribbean without the need for a passport. A Standard License is still available but can’t be used for domestic air travel or entry into certain federal buildings after May 7th. The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that Patrick Proefriedt of Colesville, pleaded guilty to 2nd degree Murder in Broome County Court. On June 26th, 2023, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office was called to 2208 Route 41 in the Town of Colesville for a report of a shooting, it was discovered that Proefriedt had shot his wife and newborn daughter with a crossbow. The child was pronounced dead at the scene and his wife was released from the hospital later that day with non-life-threatening injuries, Proefiedt faces a sentence up to life in prison when sentenced at a later date.
State Police at Norwich were dispatched by the Chenango County 911 Center to State Route 12 in Oxford for a report of a vehicle on fire at about 1:20 AM Saturday. When Troopers arrived on scene, members of the Oxford Fire Department were extinguishing the fire and discovered the driver of the vehicle was deceased. An investigation determined that while northbound on State Route 12, the Nissan SUV went off the roadway, struck a guiderail then hit a tree and caught on fire. The driver and only occupant, is identified as 25 year old Christopher Ojuro of New Hartford.

State Police responded Saturday to the State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision to the report of a deceased inmate at the facility in Marcy. 22 year old Messiah Nantwi was pronounced deceased at Wynn Hospital in Utica, the circumstances surrounding his death are part of an ongoing investigation by State Police & the Department of Corrections Special Investigations.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 29 year old David Piskacek of Margaretville following a DMV records check, Piskacek’s driving privileges were suspended and revoked 25 times and he was actively on probation supervision. Deputies released Piskacek at the time and directed him to respond to Delaware County Probation at a later date. On February 19th, while at Delaware County Probation, Piskacek was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operator, operating a motor vehicle without a court ordered interlock device, and unlicensed operator. Piskacek was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on a probation violation and was directed to appear at the Town of Middletown Court at a later date.

The State Office of Cannabis Management announced that over 300 licensed adult-use cannabis dispensaries are open for business. Since launching legal sales in December 2022, New York's cannabis industry has generated over $1.06 billion in total retail sales, created more than 5,000 jobs statewide, One month into 2025, retail sales have exceeded $110 million, with dispensaries averaging $381,000 in monthly sales throughout 2024. State Police announced that On November 9th, 18 year old Dariel Vasquez of Pomona, who was an employee of the State Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Department, was killed while battling a forest fire at Sterling Forest in Greenwood Lake. The State Police updated this story this afternoon, the investigation revealed that Vasquez was struck by a tree while battling the forest fire and succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The advisory comes after a rise in stolen vehicles, including cars with altered ID numbers and forged titles. Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar welcomed K9 Cash and his partner and handler, Deputy Chuck Louden today, they recently completed an extensive, 10-week, 450-hour K9 handler training at Cedar Creek Kennels in Illinois and have concluded their final training and state certification in our community this week. Later this month, Broome County residents will begin to see Cash be out in the community as a member of the Road Patrol division. K9 Cash is a male German Shepherd just under two years old. He and his partner Deputy Louden have been trained and certified in tracking, handler protection, locating individuals, explosives detection and other skills needed for law enforcement K9 units

Peck pleaded guilty, She admitted to possessing a narcotic drug with the intention of selling it in the Village of Delhi on March 13, 2024. Judge Hubbard sentenced her to 5 years in state prison, to be followed by 2 years of post-release supervision.

The State Senate has approved the confirmation of Steven James as the new State Police Superintendent. James has more than 32 years in Law Enforcement, he becomes the 18th Superintendent in State Police history.
Governor Hochul announced a four-year project to revamp the technology at the State Department of Motor Vehicles. The state is contracting a with a new software company to upgrade the agency’s aging technology systems, which was found to be lacking as they re-opened following the COVID 19 pandemic. Fast Enterprises will be tasked with upgrading the DMV systems in 2 phases over the next 4 years, Fast Enterprises software is being used in 15 other states.

The State Department of Health Bureau of Tobacco Control is releasing 3 new reports that point to the effectiveness of ongoing tobacco control policies adopted in the State over the last few years. The New York Youth Tobacco Survey of middle and high school students, found a decrease in cigarette smoking from 27.1% in 2000 to an all-time low of 2.1% among high school students. A 2nd report showed a decrease from 14.1% to 12.0% between 2017 and 2021. A 3rd report found that flavored vaping product sales and use decreased across the State following the implementation of a ban on flavored vaping products and new limits on the legal age to purchase other products.
The State Board of Elections has announced the release of Online Voter Registration website, which allows State residents to register to vote for the 1st time or update their voter registration, including their name, address or party affiliation. State Police at Sidney responded to a crash involving a tractor trailer and SUV on State Route 8 near County Road 35 in the town of Guilford. An investigation at the scene revealed that the SUV was on State Route 35 when the vehicle entered the intersection and collided with a tractor trailer that had been traveling on State Route 8. The driver of the SUV, 27 year old Erin Hazen of South New Berlin was transported to A.O Fox Hospital - Tri Town. A passenger in the vehicle, a 3-year-old male was not injured. The driver of the tractor trailer, 51 year old Sergei Maliutin of Cohoes, did not report any injury.
Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 33 year old Christopher Snyder of West Winfield for driving with a suspended New York State Driver’s license. On Saturday afternoon, May 27th, 2023, Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 206 in the Town of Walton, at 75 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. Upon conducting a traffic stop, Snyder's driving privileges were suspended, he was arrested and was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, speeding and failing to surrender NYS License to DMV, Snyder released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

After further investigation, deputies identified the one of the drivers of the vehicle as 66 year-old Terence Gebler of Walton, whose driver’s license was suspended. Deputies arrested Gebler for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Failure to turn in license to DMV, & Failure to yield while entering an intersection, Gebler was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Tompkins Court at a later date.

State Police & other Law Enforcement Agencies are reminding New Yorkers to follow the "Move Over" law, which requires drivers to change lanes away from emergency responders, tow trucks & police vehicles responding to emergencies on the state's highway. The message was announced again after a driver slammed into the back an a van assisting a motorist in the Hudson valley, flipping another vehicle into the air, there were no injuries according to DMV officials. The Move Over Law has been in effect since 2012 in New York State.

State Police and local law enforcement will increase patrols to combat drunk, impaired and reckless driving as St. Patrick's Day celebrations get underway starting this weekend. This special traffic enforcement detail, which is funded by the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee, begins on Friday and runs through Sunday. Drivers can expect to encounter additional DWI patrols and sobriety checkpoints during the enforcement period. State Police will also be ticketing distracted drivers who are using handheld electronic devices and will conduct checks at retail establishments targeting underage drinking and unlawful sales to minors during the campaign.
Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 19 year old Savon Turrell of Binghamton, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Turrell admitted that on May 3, 2022, he illegally possessed a loaded 45 caliber pistol. Binghamton Police responded to a report of shots fired with the suspects leaving the scene in a light-colored Dodge Caliber. Police tracked the vehicle to a house on Oak Street. Turrell was located & was arrested, no one was injured in the shooting. Turrell will be sentenced to 3 ½ years in New York State prison followed by 3 years post release supervision on May 19th.

State Police responded to a 1 vehicle rollover collision on Hoben Road in the Town of Oxford. The Investigation revealed that a pickup truck operated by 18 year old Ayden Strong of Norwich, failed to negotiate a sharp corner on Hoben Road and overturned, 18 year old Taylor Demuth of Norwich was partially ejected and pronounced deceased on scene. Two other occupants of the vehicle received minor, non-life-threatening injuries. State Police reported that the vehicle was uninsured, unregistered, and Strong was not licensed. The investigation is continuing.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 28 in the Town of Delhi, crossing over the double yellow line’s multiple times, they conducted a traffic stop, they identified the driver as 30-year-old Carmine Yonnone of Delhi, whose driver’s license was suspended. Yonnone was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Failing to Turn in License to DMV, Moving from a lane unsafely, Unauthorized Sticker and Possession of an open alcoholic Container within a motor vehicle, he will appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.
State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 21 year old Judy Benjamin of Nineveh, she was last seen at her residence on Thorn Hill Road in Nineveh on February 5, She was wearing a green sweatshirt and sweatpants. Benjamin is white, 5’4” and weighs approximately 100 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. Anyone with information is asked to contact New York State Police at (607) 561-7400.
State Police investigated a three vehicle collision involving a State Police vehicle in the Town of Middletown on State Highway 30. The Trooper and one vehicle operator were treated for minor injuries. The third vehicle operator was not injured. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced $100 million in State funding has been released to support the renewal of State roadways impacted by extreme weather. The funding supports repaving projects at 64 locations, totaling almost 520 lane miles of pavement. Payton Gendron of Conklin will appear in a federal court room in Buffalo next Thursday, February 16th. Gendron was arrested after allegedly fatally shooting 10 people and injuring 3 others in a mass shooting at a Buffalo Tops Supermarket last May. Gendron is scheduled to be sentenced on state charges of murder as a hate crime and domestic act of terrorism motivated by hate on February 15th. Gendron could be sentenced to death if convicted on the federal charges.

The State DMV announced that the annual inspection stickers will be changing. Several area Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at 440 St. John Road in Afton early this morning. The fire was mainly confined to the 1st floor, there was smoke & heat damage to parts of the 2nd floor, 1 unconscious occupant was removed & was taken to Wilson Hospital. Firefighters from Afton, Harpursville, Greene, Bainbridge & Coventry Responded, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Saturday night, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the Town of Colchester, Deputies identified the driver of the vehicle as 44-year-old Tyrece Williams of Syracuse, who's vehicle registration was suspended, due to an Insurance Lapse. Williams was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended/Revoked Registration, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, Failing to turn in license plates into DMV, among other charges, Williams was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 206 in the Town of Walton Saturday Night, the vehicle had failed to maintain operation within its designated lane of travel, by crossing over the center roadway markings multiple times. Deputies identified the driver of the vehicle as 22-year-old Paul Akinware of New York, A check of Akinware’s driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended in the State of New York. Deputies subsequently arrested Akinware For Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failing to Turn in License to DMV, Unlicensed Operator, Moving from lane unsafely and No/Inadequate Lights, Akinware was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

State Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation released its report on the death of Paul Weeden in Walton. On October 4th 2021, Weeden called 911 and said he was going to hurt himself & needed a police officer sent to 14 Griswold Street, A Walton Police Officer responded who requested back up from the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, a deputy met the Walton officer at Weeden's residence. Weeden called the officer to come inside, he was covered by a blanket, and asked the officer to come closer. The officer asked Weeden to take his hands out from under the blanket, Weeden was holding a gun, the officer retreated out the front door, urging Weeden to drop the weapon, Weeden moved to the front door with his gun pointed at the officer, and the officer fired his service weapon, Weeden fell, but then raised the gun, and the officer fired again. Weeden was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers recovered a pellet gun at the scene, there were no markings on The gun that distinguished it from a firearm. The Attorney General's Office determined that criminal charges could not be pursued against the officer.
Several Fire Companies were assisting Bainbridge this morning for a structure fire at State route 206 and Butts Road. that was called in at about 4:00 AM. WCDO news will have more details as they become available.

McComas admitted that in January of 2022, he stole a 2020 Ford F-150 truck from Hallstead, Pennsylvania and drove it to Best Buy in Vestal, where he stole a $300+ television, he pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession, he is a repeat offender who was convicted of Grand Larceny in 2018.

Attorney General Letitia James along with the Department of Justice & a coalition of 8 states allege that Google has engaged in a 15-year, organized campaign so it could obtain outsized influence at all levels of the ad tech industry, and has used its power to reduce competition. Through this lawsuit, the coalition of states are seeking to have Google sell off various ad tech tools to restore a competitive balance in digital advertising, other states involved in the lawsuit include California, Colorado, Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 206 in the Town of Hancock, at 86 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. Deputies identified the driver of the vehicle as 19-year-old Jaden Whitfield of Hilton, A check of Whitfield’s driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended. Whitfield was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and failing to surrender NYS License to DMV, Unlicensed Operator, Speeding among several other lesser charges, Whitfield was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Hancock Court at a later date.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the launch of the $30 million Pre-Seed and Seed Matching Fund Program, which will offer early-stage start-up companies $50,000 to $250,000 in growth assistance which they will match with funds from private sector co-investors. The Chenango United Way and the United Way of Delaware and Otsego Counties announced that, the two organizations have officially combined as of January 1st, as the United Way of Mid Rural New York, Incorporated. Campaign dollars that are raised in each county will stay in that county, the Executive Director will be Elizabeth Monaco, who has been the Executive Director of the Chenango United Way. The Chenango United Way also affiliated with the United Way of Madison County last year, that merger process will finalize in April 2023, the Madison United Way will combine under the United Way of Mid Rural New York name. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested of 41 year-old Travis Kinch of Downsville, for driving with a suspended Driver’s license. On Monday Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 30 in the Town of Colchester with an expired inspection. Upon conducting a traffic stop, A check of Kinch’s driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended in the State of New York. Kinch was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Unlicensed Operator, Uninspected Motor Vehicle and Failure to notify DMV of an address change, Kinch was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a property damage accident on Springfield Hill Road in the Town of Middlefield November 18th. 30 year old Katy Cole of Middlefield, is accused of fleeing the scene of the accident on foot, Deputies were able to track Cole down using the police canine, Cole was arrested & was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal of breath screening test, Leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Failure to keep right & Failure to notify DMV of an address change, she was held at the Otsego County Jail for arraignment.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested Nathan Clements of Chenango County following a traffic stop in the Town of Laurens. Clemens was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle, No distinctive plate, Failure to notify DMV of an address change & Disobeying a traffic control device, he was issued appearance tickets for Laurens Court at a later date.
The Chenango County Health Department is urging everyone six months and older to receive a flu vaccine as cases of influenza rise across the state. Statistics show that the flu season is ramping up early, with flu hospitalizations higher at this point in the season than they have been in a decade. Flu is also spreading at the same time as other respiratory illnesses, including RSV and COVID-19. The State Health Department reports increases in COVID 19 cases Tuesday. Over 81,000 were tests were conducted with 7,110 new positive cases, for a 7.86% positivity rate, Patient Hospitalization increased to 3,293, with more than 300 patients since Friday, there were 288 Patients in an ICU bed & 115 on ventilators, and there were 18 more deaths attributed to the virus Tuesday in Hospitals & nursing homes.

State Police are continuing to investigate an incident where a woman showed up at Chenango Memorial Hospital Friday with a gunshot wound, the woman was later transferred to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City. Chenango Memorial Hospital & 2 area school district were locked-down at the time, there was no threat to the public & the investigation is ongoing.
Assemblyman Joe Angelino & State Senator Peter Oberacker and local officials unveiled the newly-named SP4 Richard F. Walton, Jr. Memorial Highway in Gilbertsville. A bill sponsored by the lawmakers renamed a portion of State Highway 51 after the fallen Vietnam War medic, who was raised in the Town of Butternuts, he served in the 326th Medical Battalion, 101 Airborne, American Division of the U.S. Army. On February 6 1970, Walton lost his life in a helicopter crash while serving his country as a medic.
