The National Weather Service is investigating the damage reported around the State from yesterday's thunderstorms, which included a tornado watch for much of the region. Locally, significant damage was reported where a roof was torn from a barn on County Road 14 in the Village of Earlville. In Smyrna, a tree came down on a house. The National Weather Service Investigators are canvassing the region today, more results are expected to be released in the coming days.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies attempted to stop a motor vehicle on State Highway 10 in the Stamford/Hobart area, 29-year-old Wesley Eignor of Stamford failed to stop and continued on, eventually stopping in a parking lot, Eignor was taken into custody, he attempted to fight the Deputies, he was charged with Attempted Assault, 2 counts of Obstruction of Governmental Administration, plus Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle as well as for multiple vehicle and traffic offenses, Eignor was processed at the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where he was arraigned and held on bail.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 32 year old Skyler Smith of Davenport following a traffic stop. Deputies observed a vehicle being operated in the dark with no operable lights, the driver was a 16-year-old juvenile, operating with a permit. The passenger was Smith, who was actively on Probation, was intoxicated and was in possession of an open container and narcotics. Smith was arrested for 1 count each of Endangering the Welfare of a Child & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, & several traffic violations, Smith was processed and released on appearance tickets.

The Chenango County Historical Society will participate in the Path Through History Saturday, the museum is hosting special open hours from 10 am. to 4 pm. The Unadilla Flag Day Parade will be held on Main Street in Unadilla, this Sunday featuring marching bands, vintage tractors, antique vehicles, and dozens of local fire departments. The Parade starts at 3:00 PM from Unatego Elementary School to the Community House.

State Police arrested 26 year old Ryan Gregory of Coram, Wednesday following a neighbor dispute that resulted in a man shot on Houghtaling Hollow Road in the Town of Meredith, Gregory allegedly shot the victim and 2 unoccupied vehicles. A 57-year-old male from Meredith sustained non-life threatening injuries and went to A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta, he was later transported to Albany Medical Center for further treatment. Troopers located Gregory at his local residence where he was in possession of firearms and refused commands to surrender, after several hours, Gregory surrendered and was charged with Attempted Murder, Criminal Use of a Firearm & Additional charges are likely. Gregory was processed then transported to the Delaware County Jail for Arraignment.

A Troy New York man wanted as a suspect in a shooting investigation was apprehended by the Broome County Sheriff’s Strategic Response Group and taken into custody within 5 minutes of his vehicle triggering a license plate reader in the City of Binghamton. On Wednesday, local law enforcement received an Attempt to Locate bulletin from the Watervliet Police Department regarding a possibly armed male suspect and vehicle wanted in relation to a shooting investigation in Watervliet. The vehicle was located in Binghamton, a traffic stop was conducted at a fast food drive through lane the unidentified suspect was taken into custody, members of the Watervliet Police took custody of the suspect and he was returned to answer for his charges.

Attorney General Letitia James today announced that 74 year old Miles Marshall of Hamilton was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison for operating a Ponzi scheme that fraudulently stole more than $50 million from 988 investors in Madison County and other nearby counties. Marshall convinced unsuspecting clients to invest millions of dollars into his so-called "Eight Percent Fund," claiming that their funds would be primarily used for real estate investments, Instead, Marshall used the funds to pay investment returns to prior investors, cover the expenses of his other businesses, and to fund shopping trips, vacations, and restaurant visits. Marshall's scheme lasted three decades, and in April, he pleaded guilty as a result of investigation.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office and the Broome County Health Department provided the public with the latest update on the outbreak of Salmonella that hit the Broome County Correctional Facility. After 11 days, operations at Broome County Correctional Facility have largely returned to normal, Over 120 IV hydration treatments were conducted, 10 individuals were hospitalized, 8 have returned from the hospital, with 2 still receiving treatment. Broome County Health Department showed a positive result for Salmonella in sample of a chicken salad meal served on May 24th, no other meals have tested positive. The Health Department identified multiple violations related to food preparation and storage that could have led to the outbreak. Several of the violations identified are repeat violations that have previously been cited to the food vendor, particularly those involving the cooling of food, The Health Department found no issues with water quality at the Correctional Facility.

Delaware County sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Logan Coss of Grand Gorge for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated and Obstructing Firefighter Operations. On May 25th, Deputies responded to assist the Grand Gorge Fire Department and Town of Roxbury Constable at the scene of a vehicle fire, Coss is accused of attempting to obstruct fire fighters and police who were on scene. Coss was released on appearance tickets for Town of Roxbury Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 46 year old Anthony Alessi of Walton for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Criminal possession of a controlled substance, following a traffic stop at a check point in Town of Colchester,  Alessi is accused of being impaired & was found to possess cocaine, he was processed and was released on appearance tickets for Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

Delaware County Historical Association will Unveil a Women's Suffrage Marker in Delhi on Saturday Morning at 11:15 am, adjacent to the Delaware National Bank on Delhi's Main Street. The ceremony will take place during Delhi's annual Harvest Festival on Courthouse Square. The marker recognizes the importance of this location in the local effort to allow women the legal right to vote in the early years of the last century.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office announced that a Free Child Car Seat Safety Check will be held Saturday at Visions FCU on State Highway 12 in Norwich. The event will run from 9:00 Am to 12:00 Noon.

State Police arrested 36 year old Nathanael Manwaring of Maine, for allegedly intentionally striking a victim with his pick-up truck, killing the victim. State Police responded Wednesday to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in a driveway on Lamb Road in the Town of Nanticoke. Manwaring is accused of intentionally striking 41 year old Rodney Clark of Binghamton, following a dispute. Clark was taken to Wilson Hospital by a private vehicle where he succumbed to his injuries. Manwaring has been charged with 2nd degree Murder, 1st degree Manslaughter, he was processed and transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for Arraignment.

Local government sales tax collections totaled $11.9 billion in the first half of 2025, an increase of 3.7% compared to last year, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. 86% of counties experienced a year-over-year increase in first-half collections, with Hamilton County seeing the highest growth at 14.6%, followed by the counties of Delaware (12.9%), Orleans (12.1%) and Chenango (11.7%). Nearly 75% of cities outside of New York City that impose their own sales tax experienced growth in the first half, with Norwich having the largest increase at 19.3%.

The Delaware County Department of Emergency Services announced the passing of East Branch Fire Department Assistant Chief Jason McGlone. The East Branch Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle crash, in the course of his duties, Assistant Chief McGlone suffered traumatic injuries, medical attention was rendered on scene, but he succumbed to his injuries.

State Police arrested 37 year old Jason Lagano of Port Crane, for 2nd degree Assault, Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Unlawful Possession of Noxious Matter. On May 8, Troopers were notified that a victim was seeking care at UHS Wilson Medical Center for injuries sustained at a residence in Afton, after being pepper sprayed and struck with an object which caused fractures to both of the victim’s arms. Troopers were not able to immediately locate Lagano and a warrant was issued for his arrest, he was located Thursday by the Broome County Sheriff’s Department and turned over to Troopers, he was processed & was Arraigned & released on his own recognizance, He’s scheduled to appear at Afton Town Court on July 1.

The 25th annual CHENANGO COUNTY DAIRY DAY, will be held tomorrow from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at the Chenango County Fairgrounds in Norwich. The event will include kids games, face-painting, farm machinery, farm animals & a kiddie tractor pull.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Timothy Melius of Pittsfield following a visit by the Otsego County Probation Department. Melius was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon & 3 counts of Criminal Contempt for possessing of firearms & ammunition despite having multiple court orders prohibiting him from possessing them. Melius was taken in to custody and transported to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office for processing, he was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Pittsfield Court for the above charges. The defendant was then transported to the Otsego County Probation Department where he was processed on a probation violation and arraigned in the presence of an Otsego County Court magistrate. Following arraignment, the defendant was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await further court proceedings.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office announced that the South Abington Police Department in Pennsylvania located & arrested Donald Shurock, who is being held in the Lackawanna County Jail pending his extradition back to New York. Shurock was wanted since last week, he had been located in a vehicle by a deputy, resisted arrested and fled the scene on foot, the Deputy was treated & released for injuries sustained in trying to arrest Shurock. Shurock is wanted on the initial warrant plus Assault of a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.

The Otsego County Board of Elections announced that Early Voting for the November 5 General Election will begin October 26 through November 3 at the Foothills Performing Arts Center, on Market Street in Oneonta & at The Meadows Office Complex, at 140 County Highway 33W in Cooperstown. Polls will be open from 9 am. to 5 pm. on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Polls will be open from 12 to 8 pm. on Tuesday and Thursday. The Delaware County Board of Supervisors will have an official ribbon cutting ceremony at the new DPW Administration Building at 2 Bridge Street in Delhi at 12:00 PM Today. The new office building houses the DPW administrative staff along with the Planning and Watershed Affairs offices. Remaining on Page Avenue in Delhi is the DPW material storage yard, the fueling station, the bridge fabrication shop and the salt shed. The new patrol building in Bloomville will allow for greater access to roads in the northern part of the county for maintenance and snow removal. The new mechanics facility in the Town of Walton will be for car and heavy equipment repair.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 41 year old Benjamin Bishop of Otselic for reckless endangerment, two counts of unlawful fleeing, and one count of resisting arrest. The Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a road rage incident after a caller reported that Bishop's Van ran a vehicle off the road in Sherburne, additional calls described Bishop cutting off and tailgating other vehicles, he was located in Norwich, deputies attempted a traffic stop, he failed to comply, struck multiple vehicles and his vehicle became disabled, he fled on foot but was taken into custody after a taser was deployed. Bishop was also charged with numerous traffic citations & faces court action at a later date.

23 year old Nalya Jimenez of Sidney pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court Tuesday to 1 count of Welfare Fraud, she was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge. Jimenez admitted to providing false information while applying for SNAP, she failed to report recurring income from several sources - including a full-time position that would have rendered her ineligible to receive the benefits. Jimenez improperly received $5,679 in public benefits, she has agreed to pay the entirety of $5,679 in 30 days of sentence. If she fails to pay, she could face a year in jail.

The Delaware County Historical Association is accepting nominations for their Annual Awards of Merit. Nominations should be for individuals or Groups who have made significant contributions for the preservation of local history, the awards will be presented at the Associations Annual Meeting on November 3rd. Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond was recently elected President of the New York State Sheriff's Association, he told WCDO News that it is a humbling experience:

Sheriff DuMond said that Governor Hochul was at the ceremony last week and she was promising to be tougher on crime in 2024, and he hoped that the new position will give him a seat at the table when discussing future legislation.

The State Department of Labor released preliminary local area unemployment rates for December. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.3% in November to 4.5% in December, Locally, Chenango County had 4.2%, Delaware County 4.7% & Otsego County also had 4.7% unemployment.

The Chenango County Historical Society recently announced grant awards totaling $49,500 from the State Council on the Arts to support the recovery of the nonprofit arts and culture sector. The State Council has awarded more than $80 million since spring 2023 to more than 1,500 artists and organizations. The numbers are in for the Laurens Central School Coaches vs Cancer Basketball event this past Saturday, where they were able to raise $5,467 for the American Cancer Society through a Zumbathon, basket raffles and admission donations. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Thomas Harris of Masonville for making a Terroristic Threat. On January 10th, Deputies received a complaint that an individual had made threats of arson towards a local business, it was determined that Harris did make the threat to “burn down” the business’s headquarters on a recorded line while talking to the business’s after-hours dispatch center. Harris was charged with Aggravated Harassment and Making a Terroristic Threat, he was transported to and held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await centralized arraignment.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 22 year old Devon Kupris of Davenport after Deputies responded Saturday to a motor vehicle accident on State Highway 23 in Davenport, Kupris’s driving privileges were revoked for 3 speeding violations or misdemeanors in 18 months. Kupris was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated, Aggravated DWI .18% or higher, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator & Leaving the Scene of a Property Damaged Accident, he was released on appearance tickets returnable at an later date to the Town of Kortright Court.

State Police are searching for 16-year-old Emily Clapper who was reported missing on October 2nd, she is described as 5 foot 4 inches tall, 120 pounds with red hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt with “OLD FORGE” in white letters and gray sweatpants, she may be in the city of Oneonta area. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 37 year old Ashley Brooker of Walton for driving with a suspended Driver’s license following a motor vehicle accident. On Friday September 28th, Deputies responded to a 1 car accident where a vehicle went over an embankment and overturned. Brooker fled the scene and attempted to have the vehicle removed by a tow company without reporting the accident. Brooker was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Unsafe Tires, Speed not Reasonable and Prudent, moving from a lane unsafely, Failure to keep right, along with various lesser charges, she will appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for Molock Dixon on an outstanding warrant for a Sex Offender Registration Violation. On Wednesday, State Police Traffic Incident Management Unit issued a total of 25 tickets in Broome County during an “Operation Hard Hat” detail. Troopers monitored traffic on State Route 17 in the town of Sanford where road crews were doing bridge work. Of the 25 tickets issued, 9 were for speeding, 6 for seatbelt violations & the rest for a variety of offenses.

Broome County Sheriff's Deputies responded Monday in the Town of Fenton for a Burglary complaint. The homeowner had found an unknown man in a 2nd floor room around 1:30 AM, the intruder left on foot, a laptop computer and several other electronics were missing from his residence, a downstairs window was left ajar with the screen ripped out. Deputies apprehended an individual with the stolen items in a drawstring bag, 24 year old Mitchell Paul of Binghamton, was charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property & Criminal Mischief, he was taken to Central Arraignment and is currently being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility. Later that morning Deputies responded to a separate Burglary complaint in the Town of Fenton, where various items were stolen, they discovered that those items were in Mitchell Paul's drawstring bag, he was additionally charged with Burglary.

Delaware County Public Health will be holding a free Car Seat Safety Event at The Cullman Center in Sidney today from 3:30PM-5:30PM. 41 year old Paul Thayer of Utica was sentenced in Delaware County Court for his conviction of Attempted Dissemination of Indecent Materials to a Minor. On May 2nd, Thayer drove from Utica to the Village of Walton to meet a person he believed to be a 14 year old boy after sending the boy numerous text messages soliciting sexual acts. Thayer admitted he believed the boy was 14, the boy was actually a fictitious entity controlled by an organization dedicated to catching sexual predators, Judge Hubbard sentenced him to a 3-year term of probation supervision, which will include specific sex offender terms and conditions.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Bobbi Jo Worden of Oneonta for allegedly for throwing toilet bowl contents onto corrections officers 2 separate times while incarcerated at the Otsego County Jail. Worden was charged with Aggravated Harassment of an Employee by an Inmate . The officers were treated at Bassett Hospital and released. Worden was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Middlefield Town Court at a later date.

The Chenango County Health Department has lifted the BOIL WATER ORDER issued for the Village of Afton, issued Saturday. State Police arrested 48 year old Theresa Price of Utica for 3rd degree Grand Larceny. Troopers were advised last week that Price took a used vehicle for a test drive from a car dealership, told them she’d like the vehicle checked out by her mechanic but never returned. An investigation revealed that on September 15, the vehicle was traveling on Interstate 90. Price and the vehicle were located at a truck stop in the town of Pembroke. She was arrested and was processed and was turned over to the Otsego County Jail for Arraignment.

Broome County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop Saturday on Court Street in Binghamton. The Deputy stopped 28 year old Matin Avdel of Johnson City, the Deputy noticed a clear plastic bag filled with pills and powder in a fanny pack Avdel was wearing, he admitted to possessing illegal substances on both his person and in the vehicle he was driving. Avdel also identified a weapon hidden in his hoodie pocket. Avdel was charged with Criminal Possession of a Loaded Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 4 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Deputies recovered Oxycodone, MDMA, Amphetamines, A loaded pistol, Avdel was taken into custody and arraigned in Binghamton City Court. He is currently being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

24 year old Zachary Rowe of Harpursville appeared for arraignment on August 7th, on a 3-count indictment in Delaware County Court. Rowe was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance for possessing Fentanyl & Methamphetamine with intent to sell, the drugs were in the presence of a 4 year old child. The case is scheduled for a conference in Delaware County Court on August 21, 2023.

The Otsego County Department of Health reported that a bat found in the town of Unadilla has tested positive for rabies. The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Nathan Smith of Windsor for Burglary, Assault, Criminal Possession of a controlled substance, and Endangerment the welfare of a child charges, Smith is accused of breaking into a house & attacking a victim in front of children, on August 2nd. Deputies took Smith into custody, he was found with a small amount of methamphetamine, Smith was arraigned at central arraignment and released. He is due to appear in the Town of Windsor Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 62 year old Kathleen Hibbard of Delhi after an investigation of a Motor Vehicle Accident. Deputies responded August 3rd to a Motor Vehicle Accident on State Highway 28 in the Town of Delhi. Hibbard was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a B.A.C of .08 or higher and moving from lane unsafely, she was ordered to appear in Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 24 year old Amir Robinson of Binghamton for Unlawful Imprisonment, Tampering with Evidence, Menacing and Harassment, following a dispute with a firearm in the town of Dickinson on August 2nd. Deputies responded to a report of a male with a firearm who would not leave a room at the Econo Lodge on Old Front Street, he allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim and threatened to kill her. Upon arrival at the scene, responding deputies located Robinson in the nearby vicinity and detained him without incident. Robinson was arraigned at central arraignment and remains in custody pending future court action.

59 year old Valerie Alexander of Delhi, appeared in Delaware County Court, she pleaded guilty to Welfare Fraud and was sentenced to 9 months incarceration. Alexander admitted that she stole public assistance benefits totaling $2,530, she was ordered to pay restitution to the Delaware County Department of Social Services.

The Greater Oneonta Historical Society will hold a walking tour of Main Street this afternoon, starting at 5:00 PM, the tour is by donation & will leave from the History Center on Main Street.

The Chenango County Health Department announced that a flu shot clinic will be held Friday November 18th at the Chenango County Office Building in Norwich. The Flu Clinic is free for those 10 years of age & older who have no or limited coverage insurance, per-registration is requested at 337-1660.

The Otsego County Solid Waste Department and the Otsego County Conservation Association are teaming up once again to promote the Otsego County Schools Plastic Film Recycling Challenge. The challenge promotes recycling of film plastics and is open to all public and private k-12 school buildings located in Otsego County. State Police announced that the body of Frederick Mayock of Springfield Massachusetts was found in Canadarago Lake in Otsego County yesterday. Mayock was reported missing after he went kayaking October 22nd.

Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 41 year old Billie Jo Browning of Unadilla, after Deputies responded on October 28th, to a 2-car property damage motor vehicle accident on State Highway 28 in the Town of Meredith. Deputies arrested Browning for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, she will appear in the Town of Meredith court at a later date.

The Chenango County Historical Society announced that they are celebrating the 100th anniversary of The Raymond Corporation, at their annual Membership dinner at 5:00 PM tonight at Raymond in Greene. The event combines the annual Society membership meeting with an exclusive viewing of The Raymond Corporation’s recently unveiled centennial exhibit.

State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for August. The State's unemployment rate increased from 4.3% in July to 4.7% in August, locally, Delaware County had 3.7% unemployment, Chenango County 3.3% and Otsego County 3.4% in August.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the theft of a 30-foot camper from a Case Hill Road residence in the Town of Franklin. The camper was last seen on August 13th or August 14th and was reported stolen on August 27th, it is described as beige & gray colored, Keystone Ultralite Camper with New Jersey plates TXP17X. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 68 year old Peter Maguire of East Meredith following a trespass investigation in Walton. On August 11th, Deputies responded to a report of a male entering onto and trespassing on several properties in the Village of Walton. After the investigation, the Village of Walton Court issued a criminal summons to Maguire for trespassing, he was arrested September 10th he was released and was ordered to appear in Walton Village Court at a later date..

The State Health Department reminds New Yorkers about the availability of bivalent COVID-19 vaccine boosters from Pfizer, for anyone age 12 or older and from Moderna for those 18 or older. State Police responded to a shooting in the town of Union Monday night. New York State's COVID 19 numbers have been trending back up over the last week, after Test Results were reported Saturday. Over 156,000 were tested with 5078 testing positive, for a 3.25% positivity rate. Patient Hospitalization are back up over 1900, patients in an ICU bed was just under 400, and those on ventilators were back up to 216, there were 29 deaths in hospitals & nursing homes Saturday from COVID.

Delaware County Public Health added 54 more COVID 19 cases Thursday & Friday, with a positivity rate of 8.5%. They reported 248 active cases, 13 hospitalized, 354 quarantined. Delaware County Public Health will be conducting a COVID-19 Pfizer 5-11 year old vaccination clinic on Saturday November 20th at the DCMO BOCES- Harrold Campus from 10AM-1PM. ALL children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, to register go to apps2.health.ny.gov. J&J vaccine will be available for walk-ins over the age of 18. Delaware County Public Health reported 18 NEW COVID Positives tests Tuesday, they have 8 hospitalized, 121 active cases & 278 quarantined.

The Sidney Central School District reported positive COVID Tests for a 4th, 5th, 6th, 10th and 11th grade student. The cases in grades 4, 6, 10 and 11 will not require any contact tracing as they have not been on campus since Thursday, March 11th. The Delaware County Health Department has conducted an investigation. There will be no change to the instructional model.

State Police are investigating an attempted bank robbery in Cherry Valley Monday at around 2:00 PM at the NBT Bank at 16 Main Street in Cherry Valley. The suspect is described as a white male, 30 to 40 years of age and is approximately 5’5” – 5’7” in height. He was last seen walking on Lancaster Street in Cherry Valley. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Cameron Hart of Middletown earlier this month. Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at an excessive speed on March 5th in the town of Colchester, Deputies stopped the vehicle, a routine DMV inquiry revealed that Hart’s driving privileges were suspended. Hart was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation & speeding at 76 miles an hour in a 55 zone. Hart was released and directed to appear in the Town of Colchester Court on a later date to answer the charges.

New York State Electric & Gas announced that crews recently started proactive tree trimming work in the towns of Chenango and Maine in Broome County to protect the electrical system from hazards caused by fallen branches and vegetation overgrowth. The trimming activity will extend 67.23 miles along Airport Drive, Bringham Road and Commercial Drive in the Town of Maine. In the Town of Chenango, crews will be working along Castle Creek Road, Dunham Hill Road, Kolb Road and W. Chenango Road. Trimming work is expected to be completed by April 1st.

State & Local Health Departments are seeing a rapid increase in COVID 19 cases in the last month, with a state wide increase in Hospitalizations of about 350% since November 1st.  Heather Warner of Delaware County Public Health told WCDO news of the latest trends that they are finding with COVID 19 positive cases:

Warner said that people need to remember to wash their hands, wear their facemasks correctly, socially distance by 6 feet and avoid large gatherings or event get together with a small number of people in one residence or location.

Chenango County Public Health announced their 11th death from the COVID 19 virus today.  They report 51 active cases, 4 hospitalizations, 268 are quarantined & they are up to 652 cases since the Spring with 588 recoveries.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Wednesday morning to a tractor trailer rollover on County Highway 16 in the Town of Delhi.  Deputies located a pick-up truck and flatbed trailer  carrying a farm tractor that had overturned while navigating a sharp curve, the driver 76 year old Donald Hebbard of Franklin, was not injured,  diesel fuel was spilled from the farm tractor & the DEC Spill Team responded to the scene for evaluation and clean-up.  Hebbard was issued a ticket for speed not reasonable and prudent.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 16 new COVID cases reported Wednesday, they report 91 active cases, 11 are hospitalized, they've had 1340 total confirmed cases with 8 deaths, and 766 cases are linked to SUNY Oneonta & 71 confirmed cases linked to Hartwick College.

Delaware County Public Health announced that they had 8 more new cases of COVID Wednesday, they have 76 active cases, 4 are hospitalized, & 255 are quarantined.  Delaware County has had 389 total cases, with 304 recoveries and 9 deaths.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce & Delaware Opportunities have teamed up for the annual Toys for Tots campaign, Area drop off points include Delhi Telephone Company, Arc of Delaware County, Beaver Mountain Log Homes in Deposit, Mirabito Energy Products on Steiner Road in Sidney & the Sidney Airport.  The campaign runs through tomorrow when Chamber staff will pick up the toys from member businesses, more information is available at 746-1600.

Broome County Health Department reported 3 more deaths from COVID 19 Wednesday, they have had 134 deaths since March; they've had 5395 cases so far, with 4693 recoveries and over 4000 are being monitored by the department.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 64 year old John Brussell of Oxford for aggravated unlicensed operation. After conducting a traffic stop on State Highway 12 in the Town of Oxford, Brussell is accused of operating a motor vehicle without a valid New York State driver’s license. Brussell was released on an appearance ticket and is to return to the Town of Oxford Court on a later date.

Chenango County Public Health reported a 10th death from the COVID 19 virus today. Chenango County has 36 active cases, 3 people are hospitalized, 230 people are quarantined there have been 480 cases of the virus since March, with 423 recoveries, they have conducted over 40,000 tests.

Hartwick College reported no new cases of COVID-19 have been detected. There are eight active cases on campus; the total number of cases detected on campus since August 1, 2020 is 67.

Otsego County Department of Health announced that a raccoon has tested positive for rabies in the town of Hartwick on Thursday. An unvaccinated dog was exposed & will be quarantined, there was no human exposure, more information about rabies is available at 547-4230.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 6 new cases of COVID 19 Thursday, they now have 46 active cases, no one is hospitalized, there have been 1078 total confirmed cases, 8 deaths, with 756 cases linked to SUNY Oneonta & 65 confirmed cases in Hartwick College students.

Delaware County Public Health reported 4 new COVID 19 cases Thursday, with 71 active cases, 9 hospitalizations, & 222 in Quarantine. The county is up to 260 total cases, 9 deaths & 180 recoveries.

The Firemen's Association of the State of New York announced that Governor Cuomo has signed legislation addressing the growing decline in volunteer firefighters across the State. The new law creates a New York State Recruitment and Retention Task Force that will study challenges to recruiting and retaining volunteer firefighters. The prosecution rested Thursday in the
Manslaughter Trial of Kimberly Steeley in Otsego County Court.  Steeley is accused of the asphyxiation deaths
of her 2 infants 11 days apart in East Worcester in June of 2018.

As New Yorkers prepare to set their clocks
forward one hour this Sunday for Daylight Saving Time, the Firemen's
Association of the State of New York is urging everyone to change the batteries
in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Homeowners with alarms
that have sealed, non-removable batteries should test the alarms to see if they
are functional.  Batteries should be
changed twice a year, because according to the National Fire Protection
Association, almost 3 of every 5 home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes
with no smoke alarms or without working smoke alarms. Last year New York State
led the nation in home fire deaths with 126 fatalities, more information is

Beginning Saturday, the Greater Oneonta
Historical Society will present a display of the history of the local chapter
of the League of Women Voters.  There
will be an opening reception on Saturday from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the Oneonta

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will
hold their next First Friday Networking Breakfast this morning, from 8:30 to

Leddy from the Delaware County Planning Department who will be speaking about
the county's outreach efforts and importance of participation in the 2020
Census, which will begin in earnest in Mid-March.

A.O. Fox Hospital announced the
recertification of its Cardiac Rehabilitation program by the American
Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.   To earn the accreditation, Fox’s program
participated in an application process that requires extensive documentation of
the program’s practices;   A.O. Fox
Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program has been accredited by AACVPR
continuously since 2007.

The Delaware Academy School Board has
appointed Business Manager Carey Schultz as the interim superintendent.  Schultz replaces Jason Thompson who is taking
a similar position at a larger district after 9 years in Delhi.

2020 marks the 75th anniversary of
the Delaware County Historical Association in Delhi.  Officials announced that the museum is
planning a year of special events to celebrate, including the Diamond Jubilee

State Police & Broome County Sheriff's Department announced that a high-speed chase early this morning ended with a vehicle fire on I-88 eastbound between Exits 1 and 2.  More information is expected to be released later today.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies owner John Hughes today held a
press conference regarding the potential for Major League Baseball of shutting
down about 1/4 of the minor league teams in the country, including the Rumble
Ponies.  Hughes said that NYSEG Stadium
is greatly improved & fully compliant with existing standards:

Hughes said that another factor
in closing down teams is the proximity of the team to the Major League Franchise;
obviously Binghamton is within 200 miles of Citi Field in Queens.  So far no decisions have been made, no
meetings have been held regarding this proposal & the 2020 season will be
played as scheduled.

State Police arrested 2 Pennsylvania residents following a
drug bust in Chenango County that seized thousands of dollars’ worth of
drugs.  28 year old Jordan Melendez and
24 year old Kimberly Rivas were arrested Thursday following the execution of
search warrants at multiple locations in Chenango County.  Police seized 1.5 pounds of Crystal Meth,
pure Fentanyl, 20 pounds of marihuana, 4 handguns, 16 illegally possessed long
guns Scales, Packaging materials & $3,350.00 in cash. Melendez & Rivas
were charged with Criminal possession of a controlled substance & were
arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to Chenango County Jail
with no bail. The case remains under investigation, additional charges are
possible.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested and charged
53-year-old Jason Babcock of Sidney for Driving While Ability Impaired by
Alcohol, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, following an
investigation by Delaware County Probation Officers, alleging that Babcock had
driven to his probation meeting in the Village of Delhi while under the
influence of alcohol. Babcock was released on an appearance ticket for Town of
Delhi Court at a later date.

Daylight Saving Time ends on
Sunday at 2:00 AM, as clocks will be turned back one hour.   The move means that it will get dark an hour
earlier at 5:19 PM Sunday, Standard time will be used through March 8th
2020  when clocks will “spring” forward
an hour to begin Daylight Saving Time.

Last Night’s storms left behind flooding, power outages
& closed roads.  In Chenango County,
State Highway 23 in Pharsalia is expected to be closed for an extended period
of time, Nyseg reported that about 1300 were without power in Otsego County,
about 1700 were out in Delaware County, about
800 in Chenango County and over 1100 in Broome County this afternoon.

The annual meeting of the Delaware County Historical

Norwich City Police have arrested 23 year old Damion Spicer
of Norwich for 3rd degree Grand Larceny, for allegedly stealing a Honda
recently.  Spicer was apprehended in the
Town of Guilford, The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the
investigation.  Spicer is being held
pending future court action.

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond announced the
acquisition and implementation of a new K9 Deputy and K9 Handler to the
Sheriff’s Department.  K9 “Eli”, is a
2-year-old German Shepherd from Hungary who was acquired from Shallow Creek
Kennels in Pennsylvania.  Deputy Kyle
Karcher of Hancock was selected to be K9 Eli’s handler; they will be trained in
narcotics detection, search and rescue, tracking and handler protection.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County will have a

Bail for 18 year old Cody Coleman of Smithville was set at
$600,000 cash or $1 million bond earlier this week in Chenango County
Court.  Coleman was charged with 2nd
degree murder, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon
for the May 3rd death of his 16-year-old girlfriend, Amelia Wakefield of
Oxford.   Coleman is being held at the Chenango County
Correctional Facility pending future court action.

announced that their Fall Workshops begin on Saturday September 14th through
October 19, where Rod Sutton will teach Photography to students of all levels
