The National Weather Service is investigating the damage reported around the State from yesterday's thunderstorms, which included a tornado watch for much of the region. Locally, significant damage was reported where a roof was torn from a barn on County Road 14 in the Village of Earlville. In Smyrna, a tree came down on a house. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies attempted to stop a motor vehicle on State Highway 10 in the Stamford/Hobart area, 29-year-old Wesley Eignor of Stamford failed to stop and continued on, eventually stopping in a parking lot, Eignor was taken into custody, he attempted to fight the Deputies, he was charged with Attempted Assault, 2 counts of Obstruction of Governmental Administration, plus Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle as well as for multiple vehicle and traffic offenses, Eignor was processed at the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where he was arraigned and held on bail.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 32 year old Skyler Smith of Davenport following a traffic stop. Deputies observed a vehicle being operated in the dark with no operable lights, the driver was a 16-year-old juvenile, operating with a permit. The passenger was Smith, who was actively on Probation, was intoxicated and was in possession of an open container and narcotics. Smith was arrested for 1 count each of Endangering the Welfare of a Child & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, & several traffic violations, Smith was processed and released on appearance tickets.
The Chenango County Historical Society will participate in the Path Through History Saturday, the museum is hosting special open hours from 10 am. to 4 pm. State Police arrested 26 year old Ryan Gregory of Coram, Wednesday following a neighbor dispute that resulted in a man shot on Houghtaling Hollow Road in the Town of Meredith, Gregory allegedly shot the victim and 2 unoccupied vehicles. A 57-year-old male from Meredith sustained non-life threatening injuries and went to A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta, he was later transported to Albany Medical Center for further treatment. Troopers located Gregory at his local residence where he was in possession of firearms and refused commands to surrender, after several hours, Gregory surrendered and was charged with Attempted Murder, Criminal Use of a Firearm & Additional charges are likely. Gregory was processed then transported to the Delaware County Jail for Arraignment.

A Troy New York man wanted as a suspect in a shooting investigation was apprehended by the Broome County Sheriff’s Strategic Response Group and taken into custody within 5 minutes of his vehicle triggering a license plate reader in the City of Binghamton. On Wednesday, local law enforcement received an Attempt to Locate bulletin from the Watervliet Police Department regarding a possibly armed male suspect and vehicle wanted in relation to a shooting investigation in Watervliet. The vehicle was located in Binghamton, a traffic stop was conducted at a fast food drive through lane the unidentified suspect was taken into custody, members of the Watervliet Police took custody of the suspect and he was returned to answer for his charges.
Attorney General Letitia James today announced that 74 year old Miles Marshall of Hamilton was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison for operating a Ponzi scheme that fraudulently stole more than $50 million from 988 investors in Madison County and other nearby counties. Marshall convinced unsuspecting clients to invest millions of dollars into his so-called "Eight Percent Fund," claiming that their funds would be primarily used for real estate investments, Instead, Marshall used the funds to pay investment returns to prior investors, cover the expenses of his other businesses, and to fund shopping trips, vacations, and restaurant visits. Marshall's scheme lasted three decades, and in April, he pleaded guilty as a result of investigation.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office and the Broome County Health Department provided the public with the latest update on the outbreak of Salmonella that hit the Broome County Correctional Facility. After 11 days, operations at Broome County Correctional Facility have largely returned to normal, Over 120 IV hydration treatments were conducted, 10 individuals were hospitalized, 8 have returned from the hospital, with 2 still receiving treatment. Broome County Health Department showed a positive result for Salmonella in sample of a chicken salad meal served on May 24th, no other meals have tested positive. The Health Department identified multiple violations related to food preparation and storage that could have led to the outbreak. Several of the violations identified are repeat violations that have previously been cited to the food vendor, particularly those involving the cooling of food, The Health Department found no issues with water quality at the Correctional Facility.

Delaware County sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Logan Coss of Grand Gorge for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated and Obstructing Firefighter Operations. On May 25th, Deputies responded to assist the Grand Gorge Fire Department and Town of Roxbury Constable at the scene of a vehicle fire, Coss is accused of attempting to obstruct fire fighters and police who were on scene. Coss was released on appearance tickets for Town of Roxbury Court at a later date.

Delaware County Historical Association will Unveil a Women's Suffrage Marker in Delhi on Saturday Morning at 11:15 am, adjacent to the Delaware National Bank on Delhi's Main Street. The ceremony will take place during Delhi's annual Harvest Festival on Courthouse Square. The marker recognizes the importance of this location in the local effort to allow women the legal right to vote in the early years of the last century.

State Police responded Wednesday to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in a driveway on Lamb Road in the Town of Nanticoke. Manwaring is accused of intentionally striking 41 year old Rodney Clark of Binghamton, following a dispute. Clark was taken to Wilson Hospital by a private vehicle where he succumbed to his injuries. Manwaring has been charged with 2nd degree Murder, 1st degree Manslaughter, he was processed and transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for Arraignment.

Local government sales tax collections totaled $11.9 billion in the first half of 2025, an increase of 3.7% compared to last year, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. 86% of counties experienced a year-over-year increase in first-half collections, with Hamilton County seeing the highest growth at 14.6%, followed by the counties of Delaware (12.9%), Orleans (12.1%) and Chenango (11.7%). Nearly 75% of cities outside of New York City that impose their own sales tax experienced growth in the first half, with Norwich having the largest increase at 19.3%.

The Delaware County Department of Emergency Services announced the passing of East Branch Fire Department Assistant Chief Jason McGlone. The East Branch Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle crash, in the course of his duties, Assistant Chief McGlone suffered traumatic injuries, medical attention was rendered on scene, but he succumbed to his injuries.

State Police arrested 37 year old Jason Lagano of Port Crane, for 2nd degree Assault, Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Unlawful Possession of Noxious Matter. On May 8, Troopers were notified that a victim was seeking care at UHS Wilson Medical Center for injuries sustained at a residence in Afton, after being pepper sprayed and struck with an object which caused fractures to both of the victim’s arms. Troopers were not able to immediately locate Lagano and a warrant was issued for his arrest, he was located Thursday by the Broome County Sheriff’s Department and turned over to Troopers, he was processed & was Arraigned & released on his own recognizance, He’s scheduled to appear at Afton Town Court on July 1.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Timothy Melius of Pittsfield following a visit by the Otsego County Probation Department. The Chenango County Sheriff's Office announced that the South Abington Police Department in Pennsylvania located & arrested Donald Shurock, who is being held in the Lackawanna County Jail pending his extradition back to New York. Shurock was wanted since last week, he had been located in a vehicle by a deputy, resisted arrested and fled the scene on foot, the Deputy was treated & released for injuries sustained in trying to arrest Shurock. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 41 year old Benjamin Bishop of Otselic for reckless endangerment, two counts of unlawful fleeing, and one count of resisting arrest. The Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a road rage incident after a caller reported that Bishop's Van ran a vehicle off the road in Sherburne, additional calls described Bishop cutting off and tailgating other vehicles, he was located in Norwich, deputies attempted a traffic stop, he failed to comply, struck multiple vehicles and his vehicle became disabled, he fled on foot but was taken into custody after a taser was deployed. Bishop was also charged with numerous traffic citations & faces court action at a later date.

23 year old Nalya Jimenez of Sidney pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court Tuesday to 1 count of Welfare Fraud, she was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge. Jimenez admitted to providing false information while applying for SNAP, she failed to report recurring income from several sources - including a full-time position that would have rendered her ineligible to receive the benefits. Jimenez improperly received $5,679 in public benefits, she has agreed to pay the entirety of $5,679 in 30 days of sentence. If she fails to pay, she could face a year in jail.

The State Department of Labor released preliminary local area unemployment rates for December. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.3% in November to 4.5% in December, Locally, Chenango County had 4.2%, Delaware County 4.7% & Otsego County also had 4.7% unemployment.
The Chenango County Historical Society recently announced grant awards totaling $49,500 from the State Council on the Arts to support the recovery of the nonprofit arts and culture sector. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 37 year old Ashley Brooker of Walton for driving with a suspended Driver’s license following a motor vehicle accident. On Friday September 28th, Deputies responded to a 1 car accident where a vehicle went over an embankment and overturned. Brooker fled the scene and attempted to have the vehicle removed by a tow company without reporting the accident. Brooker was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Unsafe Tires, Speed not Reasonable and Prudent, moving from a lane unsafely, Failure to keep right, along with various lesser charges, she will appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

On Wednesday, State Police Traffic Incident Management Unit issued a total of 25 tickets in Broome County during an “Operation Hard Hat” detail. Troopers monitored traffic on State Route 17 in the town of Sanford where road crews were doing bridge work. Of the 25 tickets issued, 9 were for speeding, 6 for seatbelt violations & the rest for a variety of offenses.
Broome County Sheriff's Deputies responded Monday in the Town of Fenton for a Burglary complaint. The homeowner had found an unknown man in a 2nd floor room around 1:30 AM, the intruder left on foot, a laptop computer and several other electronics were missing from his residence, a downstairs window was left ajar with the screen ripped out. Deputies apprehended an individual with the stolen items in a drawstring bag, 24 year old Mitchell Paul of Binghamton, was charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property & Criminal Mischief, he was taken to Central Arraignment and is currently being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility. Later that morning Deputies responded to a separate Burglary complaint in the Town of Fenton, where various items were stolen, they discovered that those items were in Mitchell Paul's drawstring bag, he was additionally charged with Burglary.

Worden was charged with Aggravated Harassment of an Employee by an Inmate . The officers were treated at Bassett Hospital and released. Worden was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Middlefield Town Court at a later date.

He is currently being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Rowe was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance for possessing Fentanyl & Methamphetamine with intent to sell, the drugs were in the presence of a 4 year old child. Deputies responded August 3rd to a Motor Vehicle Accident on State Highway 28 in the Town of Delhi. Hibbard was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a B.A.C of .08 or higher and moving from lane unsafely, she was ordered to appear in Town of Delhi Court at a later date.
Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 24 year old Amir Robinson of Binghamton for Unlawful Imprisonment, Tampering with Evidence, Menacing and Harassment, following a dispute with a firearm in the town of Dickinson on August 2nd. Deputies responded to a report of a male with a firearm who would not leave a room at the Econo Lodge on Old Front Street, he allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim and threatened to kill her. Upon arrival at the scene, responding deputies located Robinson in the nearby vicinity and detained him without incident. Robinson was arraigned at central arraignment and remains in custody pending future court action.
59 year old Valerie Alexander of Delhi, appeared in Delaware County Court, she pleaded guilty to Welfare Fraud and was sentenced to 9 months incarceration. Alexander admitted that she stole public assistance benefits totaling $2,530, she was ordered to pay restitution to the Delaware County Department of Social Services.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Cameron Hart of Middletown earlier this month. Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at an excessive speed on March 5th in the town of Colchester, Deputies stopped the vehicle, a routine DMV inquiry revealed that Hart’s driving privileges were suspended. Hart was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation & speeding at 76 miles an hour in a 55 zone. Hart was released and directed to appear in the Town of Colchester Court on a later date to answer the charges.
New York State Electric & Gas announced that crews recently started proactive tree trimming work in the towns of Chenango and Maine in Broome County to protect the electrical system from hazards caused by fallen branches and vegetation overgrowth. The trimming activity will extend 67.23 miles along Airport Drive, Bringham Road and Commercial Drive in the Town of Maine. In the Town of Chenango, crews will be working along Castle Creek Road, Dunham Hill Road, Kolb Road and W. Chenango Road. Trimming work is expected to be completed by April 1st.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Wednesday morning to a tractor trailer rollover on County Highway 16 in the Town of Delhi.
