The Luszi’s Legacy Cornhole Tournament last weekend successful, the tournament raised $1,600 that will go directly to Pet Street Station Animal Hospital fund, to assist families deal with the bills for emergency or quality of life care for their senior pets.

The State DOT announced the start of the $7 million Southside Oneonta Safety and Mobility Improvement Project, which will reduce traffic congestion and enhance pedestrian access along the State Route 23 and State Route 28 corridor. The project includes extended turning lanes, a new sidewalk and an additional pedestrian crosswalk, ADA-compliant curb ramps, plus 2 new bus stops for Oneonta Public Transit users, construction will be continuing through the fall of 2027.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Mark Andrews of Schenevus, for DWI, Refusal to take Breath Test, Failure to Keep Right, Driving on slopes and shoulders and Speed not reasonable and prudent following a 1 car property damage motor vehicle accident in the Town of Middlefield. Andrews was processed and released & will appear in Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

State Police responded Saturday at about 5:00 PM to a report of a car into a house in the town of Oneonta. An investigation at the scene revealed that a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze was traveling west at an unsafe speed while on State Highway 23 in the town of Oneonta when the vehicle went off the roadway and struck a house. The 18-year-old male operator from Schenevus was transported to A.O. Fox Hospital to be treated. Impairment was not a factor in the crash. 2 residents inside the home at the time of the crash were not injured.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old Austin Hitt of Schenevus for Arson, Burglary & Criminal Mischief, following an investigation into a reported residential fire in Schenevus. Hitt allegedly entered the residence unlawfully and intentionally set a fire inside, he was arrested and was held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending arraignment at Otsego County Central Arraignment and was later released.

A.M. NEWS MONDAY 10-6-25

State Police responded Thursday morning to a motor vehicle crash on State Route 20 in Duanesburg. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 BMW driven by an unidentified 17 year old failed to make a complete stop as it turned left onto Route 20 & collided with a minivan driven by 63 year old Barbara Bryant of Schenevus, who was taken to an area hospital & succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident. The driver and 2 passengers in the BMW, and a passenger in the minivan, 36 year old Robert Gaudino of Burlington Flats, were taken to Albany Medical Center. The driver of the BMW, was issued a traffic citation for failing to stop at a stop sign. The investigation remains ongoing.

The FBI has announced the indictment of 63 year old Henry Garcia of Vero Beach Florida for "Sending a potentially hazardous material" charge, by mailing a letter last year to the New York Attorney General's Office in Albany, containing what was believed to be a biological weapon. The suspicious white powder was not a hazardous substance, the charge filed against Garcia carries a maximum term of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Nicole Conklin of Otego for 3rd degree Assault following an investigation into a reported physical domestic dispute in the Village of Schenevus. Conklin caused physical injury to another party, she was later located and taken into custody and was then turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await arraignment, an order of protection was issued to protect the victim.

Ebert was charged with 2nd degree Assault, plus Menacing & 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, after deputies responded recently to a fight in progress in the Town of Maryland. Ebert was processed & was issued an Appearance Ticket for Maryland Town Court at a later date.

P.M. NEWS TUESDAY 5-28-24

The Otsego County Office of Emergency Services announced that 29 year old Michael Bredin on the Town of Maryland, has been charged with 2nd degree Arson by the State Police & Otsego County District Attorney's Office. On March 31st, the Schenevus Fire Department, along with Oneonta City Firefighters, responded to a blaze at an apartment house on State Route 7, the fire was quickly knocked down, and investigators determined that the fire was deliberately set. Bredin was arraigned Friday & faces court action at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 47 year old Albert Deas of Schenevus following a traffic stop in the Town of Maryland. Deas was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, speeding and operating an uninspected vehicle, he was issued uniform traffic tickets and is set to appear in court at a later date.

The numbers are in for the Laurens Central School Coaches vs Cancer Basketball event this past Saturday, where they were able to raise $5,467 for the American Cancer Society through a Zumbathon, basket raffles and admission donations. WCDO Sports Director Nate Lull reported that the Schenevus Coaches vs Cancer event was postponed tonight due to the weather and will be made up at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Thomas Harris of Masonville for making a Terroristic Threat. On January 10th, Deputies received a complaint that an individual had made threats of arson towards a local business, it was determined that Harris did make the threat to “burn down” the business’s headquarters on a recorded line while talking to the business’s after-hours dispatch center. Harris was charged with Aggravated Harassment and Making a Terroristic Threat, he was transported to and held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await centralized arraignment.

An Otsego County ambulance was at the scene of a motor vehicle accident on I-88 Sunday in Schenevus when the ambulance was struck by a passing vehicle. The ambulance was parked on the shoulder of the roadway with its Emergency lighting activated. The crew was treating a patient from a previous accident in the rear of the ambulance when they were struck. Both providers were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

State Police were asked to check the welfare of a student at Schenevus Central School, The student left the school after speaking with school staff and was interviewed at home by Investigators. It was determined that the student was suffering from a mental health crisis and did have a firearm in his possession while at school. The student did not make any direct threats or display a weapon at any time. The juvenile was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Criminal Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds and appeared before a judge in Otsego County Supreme Court - Youth Part. Investigators applied for an Extreme Risk Protection Order and the juvenile was transported for a mental health evaluation.

State Police at Troop C conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Otsego County on December 21st. 14 businesses were found to be in compliance, in Worcester, Schenevus & Oneonta. During the Underage Drinking Initiative, retail establishments are checked using a trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operative(s) who cannot lie about their age or give a fake date of birth (if asked). When asked for ID, they must show their real ID. All New York State driver’s licenses are horizontal if the license holder is over the age of 21; if the license holder is under the age of 21, they are vertical.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office is continuing with an investigation into animal cruelty at a farm in the town of Butternuts earlier this week. Numerous animals were removed & were taken to the Susquehanna SPCA for evaluation & treatment, so far, no charges have been announced against the owner of the animals.

State Police arrested 56 year old Francesco Carotenuto of Schenevus for 1st degree rape, he was previously arrested on charges for Promoting Sexual Performance by a Child and Possessing Sexual Performance by a Child on September 8, 2022. After a further investigation, Investigators learned that Carotenuto forcibly engaged in sexual intercourse with a victim several years ago. Carotenuto was in jail for the previous charges, he was processed and returned to jail.

State Police arrested 56 year old Francesco Carotenuto of Schenevus for Promoting Sexual Performance by a Child and Possessing Sexual Performance by a Child. An investigation revealed that Carotenuto was in possession of and promoting images consistent with child sexual exploitation via the internet. While at Carotenuto’s residence, Troopers observed seven adult dogs who did not have adequate food, water or shelter. The dogs were turned over to the care of the Otsego County SPCA. He was additionally charged with New York Agriculture and Market Law of Overdriving, Torturing, and Injuring Animals, a misdemeanor. Carotenuto was arraigned at Otsego County Central Arraignment and Processing and remanded to the jail on $20,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled at the Maryland Town Court on September 13, 2022.

The Broome County Department of Public Works' Engineering Division will host a public information session on September 20th, about the Colesville Road Safety Improvement project. The project calls for the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Colesville Road, North Road, and Sanitaria Springs Road, the meeting was called to get input from local residents about the proposal. The meeting will be September 20th at 7:00 PM at 780 Welton Street, Harpursville.

Dresser has been charged with several counts of Auto Stripping, Grand Larceny, & Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, 1 count of Criminal Mischief for allegedly cutting off & stealing Catalytic converters from vehicles from numerous locations. Dresser was released on appearance tickets for 3 town courts in the coming weeks.

Wolle is accused of performing a lewd act in the presence of minors, he was sent to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await arraignment at a later date.
