Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Gerald Johnson of Oneonta on an Sealed Indictment Arrest Warrant issued by the Delaware County Grand Jury. On April 16th, the Delaware County Criminal Investigations Unit and Road Patrol division, Otsego County Sheriff’s Office and State Police responded to a residence in the Town of Oneonta, Johnson was located and arrested in Lantern Hill Mobile Home Park in the Town of Oneonta. Johnson was charged with 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, 2 counts of Grand Larceny, and 1 count of Petty Larceny, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $30,000.00 cash bail Or $100,000.00 secured bond. Johnson is scheduled to appear in the Delaware County Court at a later date.


The Broome County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in identifying a white truck regarding 2 separate burglaries to a barn on Bryce Road in the Town of Sanford. Video of the truck in question can be viewed at the Broome County Sheriff's You Tube page. On March 19th, a rust-colored 1930 Farmall tractor was stolen, on April 10th, an orange Moped, Blue Yamaha dirt bike and various tools were stolen, the same white truck was at both burglaries. Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 45 year old Hayes Cutting of Bainbridge pleaded guilty to 1 Count of Aggravated Family Offense in Delaware County Court Monday. Cutting admitted that on January 28, 2023, in the Village of Sidney, he intentionally choked an 18-year-old female, he will be sentenced to a state prison for 1.5 to 3 years, he is currently serving a 5-year state prison sentence for unrelated assault charges.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 28 year old Jessica Lopez of Sidney was convicted of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Delaware County Court Monday. Lopez appeared in Delaware County Court for an arraignment on drug related charges, she pleaded guilt after she admitted that she possessed fentanyl in the Village of Sidney on February 27, she intended to sell. Lopez will be sentenced to 6.5 years in state prison, and 2 years of post-release supervision on June 10th.


38 year old Tristan Skeete of Brooklyn was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury, on one count of Assault, On February 20, Skeete allegedly caused physical injury to another inmate at the Delaware County Correctional Facility, where he was being held as a federal inmate for violating the terms of his post-release supervision. Skeete can face up to 7 years in state prison.


Dave Johnson of Unadilla has organized a meeting in Unadilla tonight called “Introduction to Preparing for the Inevitable”, with a series of experts on what to do before your final days, Johnson told WCDO who the speakers will be:

Craig Ross Jr. pleaded guilty Wednesday to 1st-degree kidnapping and predatory sexual assault of a child, according to the Saratoga County district attorney, and faces 47 years to life in prison. Ross abducted 9 year old Charlotte Sena on September 30th from Moreau Lake State Park, as she was riding her bicycle while picnicking with her family, she disappeared and a search led to Ross 2 days later when state police troopers and an FBI SWAT team stormed a camper Ross was staying in. Rescuers found the girl alive in a cabinet. The guilty plea comes prior to a trial that was scheduled in April, Ross will be sentenced on April 17.

The case of Ganesh "Remy" Ramsaran of New Berlin will go national tonight on NBC's Dateline. Ramsaran pleaded guilty last year to a reduced charge of Manslaughter fro the 2012 killing of his wife Jennifer Ramsaran. Karim Dobson of Johnson City pleaded guilty as a second felony offender to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Broome County Court. On October 17, Dobson was found in possession of more than 4 ounces of fentanyl following a traffic stop on I-81 in the Town of Kirkwood. Dobson admitted to possession with the intent to sell, he is due back for sentencing on May 12, where he is expected to be sentenced to 6 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision.

State Police responded Wednesday night to a 1-vehicle crash on County Road 39 in the town of Bainbridge. 39 year old Naqwain Johnson of Schenectady drove his vehicle off the roadway and struck a tree, Sidney EMS responded however, Johnson did not survive, the passenger, 38 year old Shelly Courcelle of Schenectady, was transported to an area Hospital, The investigation is on-going.


28 year old Devon Ireland of Unadilla appeared in Delaware County Court today and was arraigned on a sealed indictment. Ireland was charged with Attempting to endanger the welfare of a child, plus 1st & 2nd degree Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors & Ireland is a registered sex offender, he was accused of engaging in a sexually explicit online conversation with a person that he believed to be a 14-year-old child, with the intent to engage in sexual activity with the child, he attempted to meet the 14 year old in Masonville, and discovered that the child was actually an adult male using a “decoy” account. Ireland was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000.00 cash bail. The case is scheduled for a conference on October 23, 2023, at 1:00 P.M.


The Appellate Division of the State Supreme Court has ordered a New Trial of Scott Mawhiney of Deposit, who was previously convicted for shooting State Trooper Ryan Thorpe in 2021. Mawhiney's attorney argued that excluding a Psychiatrist testimony in the case regarding Mawhiney's anti-anxiety prescription led to an unjust conviction, a new trial date has not yet been announced.


Sidney Fire Fighters responded this morning to the report of a trailer fire at 50 East Main Street at about 6:00 AM. The trailer was fully involved, all occupants escaped, WCDO News will have more details as they become available.


The process for the new nickname at the Sidney Central School District is in the next phase. The 2nd survey, which allows people to submit their favorite nickname, is now open. Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced a new emergency order that prevents New York City residents from using housing vouchers in Broome County. County officials said the vouchers are part of a New York City program which provides a housing allowance to eligible city families in a shelter or who are homeless. Garnar previously issued an executive order earlier this year that allowed for law enforcement to order busses with migrants to turn back around & not stop in Broome County, as the County was facing its own housing issues.

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar and Undersheriff Sam Davis welcomed K9 Raven to the Sheriff's Office today. K9 Raven and her partner and handler, Deputy Thomas Holden have undergone extensive training at Cedar Creek Kennels in Illinois over the past few weeks and are set to conclude their training this month. Raven is a female German Shepherd trained in tracking, protection, drug detection and other skills needed for law enforcement K-9 units.


A new survey on school safety has been released that places New York State near the bottom, ranking 45th out of 50 for overall student safety. New York ranked 1st in school safety plans, but ranked poorly for weapons in schools, exposure to illegal drugs, & for students feeling safe at school. State Police issued a total of 13,471 tickets statewide during the Memorial Day Weekend enforcement campaign. Troopers arrested 194 people for DWI and investigated 839 crashes, including 130 personal injury crashes. No fatal crashes were reported. Troopers charged over 3800 for speeding, 373 for distracted driving, over 3000 for seat belt violations & 122 for the Move Over law.


27 year old Alexander Schwarz of Roxbury, was sentenced to a 4-month term of incarceration in the County Jail for violating the conditions of his probation supervision. Schwarz was convicted in Greene County for Attempted Sexual Abuse and was sentenced to a 10-year term of probation supervision. On March 19th, he violated the terms of his probation imposed by the Greene County Court by using an unauthorized device to view pornographic material, Schwarz appeared in Delaware County Court this week & admitted to the violation, he was sentenced to 4 months in the Delaware County Jail, then he will be required to complete his 10-year term of probation supervision.


Helios Care is offering 2 free instructional workshops throughout the months of June & July as a part of the Healing Grief Workshop series. Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force seized a handgun during a search warrant on Wednesday on a vehicle and at 11 Pine Street in Binghamton. Investigators located A loaded handgun, ammunition, $764.00 in suspected drug proceeds & Items used for packaging and weighing narcotics, 45 year old Grady Hunter of Binghamton, was arrested on 2 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, and he was transported to the Binghamton Police Department for processing,

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35 year old Tadd Sherwood of Morris following the investigation of a physical Domestic Dispute that took place May 26th in Morris. A Bench Warrant had been issued by the Otsego County Supreme Court based on this information as the Defendant had been previously charged and released on bail for Criminal Mischief, Assault, Criminal Contempt & other charges. Sherwood was arraigned at the Otsego County Supreme Court regarding this Bench Warrant and was charged with Criminal Contempt, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Imprisonment, Assault, Criminal Mischief & Disobeying a Court Mandate, he was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $5000 cash bail or $50,000 secured bond.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 30 year old Scott Conrad of Walton pleaded guilty to 3rd Degree Burglary & Aggravated Harassment. Conrad admitted that he kicked down the door of his ex-girlfriend’s home and after an altercation & spat on her. A child was present during the Burglary, he will be sentenced to 6 months of incarceration in the County Jail and a 5-year term of felony probationary supervision.

19 year old Payton Gendron of Conklin is expected to plead guilty Monday in Erie County Court, for fatally shooting 10 people & injuring 3 others, in a racist attack on a buffalo Tops Supermarket in a predominantly Black Neighborhood May 14th. Gendron was charged in federal and state courts with multiple counts of murder and hate crimes, he is being held pending the court appearances.


The Village of Sidney Police Department arrested 36 year old Thomas Wright of Oxford and 36 year old Troy Dibble of Oxford, on Burglary & Grand Larceny Charges, following an investigation of a burglary of a house on Patterson Street in Sidney. A car trailer, 2 ATV's & a number of Tools were taken from the property, it was located in the town of Oxford and the 2 men were arrested. Wright was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court, he was released on $2000 bail to appear back in court at a later date, Dibble was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court, he was released on his own recognizance to appear back in court at a later date. Sidney Police Department were assisted by the Chenango County Sheriff's Office & State Police.


The State Department of Agriculture & Markets announced that raw milk from the Nickol Dairy Farm in Otsego County was found to be contaminated with Listeria following an inspection. Department officials warned customers not to drink the unpasteurized raw milk, until more testing is complete. Customers who purchased milk from the farm should throw it away & are advised to contact the farm owners at 607-386-3951.

The Otsego County Solid Waste Department and the Otsego County Conservation Association are teaming up once again to promote the Otsego County Schools Plastic Film Recycling Challenge. The challenge promotes recycling of film plastics and is open to all public and private k-12 school buildings located in Otsego County. The challenge kicks off on America Recycles Day, November 15, and runs through April 14, 2023.


Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that since early January, when mobile sports wagering became available in New York, the State has collected $542 million in taxes through the week ending October 30, far surpassing every other state in the nation. An additional $200 million in licensing fees has also been collected, generating a total of more than $740 million in revenue, most of it to be used for education.

State Police announced that the body of Frederick Mayock of Springfield Massachusetts was found in Canadarago Lake in Otsego County yesterday. Mayock was reported missing after he went kayaking October 22nd.


Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 41 year old Billie Jo Browning of Unadilla, after Deputies responded on October 28th, to a 2-car property damage motor vehicle accident on State Highway 28 in the Town of Meredith. State Police responded Wednesday to an SUV Rollover accident on Frost Hill Road in the town of Plainfield, where the vehicle driven by 28 year old Amber Brown of Rome went off the roadway, struck an embankment and partially overturned. 3 year old Amina Estrada was pronounced dead at the scene, 2 adults & 4 children in the Estrada family were taken to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Utica for further medical care. The accident is still under investigation.


This Sunday would have been the 7th birthday of Trinity O'Connor of Sidney, the little girl who died from cancer earlier this year. The Trinity O'Connor Foundation will celebrate her birthday Sunday at 4:00 PM at Keith Clark Park, spokesperson Kim Ayres explains:

Attorney General Letitia James and the State Department of Taxation and Finance announced the arrest and arraignment of 60 year old Carl Carro of Walton, for failing to pay more than $75,000 in New York state taxes over the past 6 years, he was previously arrested for operating a multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme. Carro is charged with multiple counts of Criminal Tax Fraud, Offering a False Instrument for Filing and Repeated Failure to File Personal Income Tax Returns, if convicted, he faces 10 to 20 years in state prison. Carro was arraigned in the village of Sidney court and was remanded pending a bail hearing.


Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that the State Court of Appeals 3rd department upheld a rape conviction of Steven Silva of Johnson City. Silva was sentenced to 4 years in Jail followed by 10 years Post Release Supervision, plus he must register as a Sex Offender, for performing sexual acts with a 14 year old.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 64 year old Sherrie White of Deposit, following an investigation of a domestic dispute. Deputies reported that White was engaged in the dispute with a protected party of an order of protection, Deputies charged White with Criminal Contempt, White was processed and released on an appearance ticket for Town of Deposit Court at a later date.

State Senator Fred Akshar joined Broome County officials to welcome the "Hockey 4 Hope" charity event back, on 2 nights at the SUNY Broome Ice Center in Binghamton to raise money to help alleviate the financial burden associated with fighting cancer. The charity hockey game begins with "Paint the Ice" today 5:00 to 8:00 PM where attendees will be able to paint a message of hope, love, and remembrance on the ice. Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that 32 year old Zeke Wilmarth of Binghamton pleaded guilty to 2nd degree attempted murder, Criminal possession of a weapon & Strangulation, in connection with the attack on his girlfriend in July of 2021 in the town of Vestal. Wilmarth is expected to be sentenced to 15 years to life upon sentencing in June.


Governor Kathy Hochul & Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin wrote an op-ed piece in a Downstate news paper this week, they claimed that New York's Bail Reform doesn't need to be repealed, but there are changes needed to the law. Governor Hochul wrote that problems that needs to be addressed include Repeat offenders, those accused of hate crimes, judges should be allowed to set bail; even if the crime would not currently be bail-eligible. The Governor wrote that judges should be able to set bail in all felony cases involving illegal guns, including guns given or sold to minors, & in crimes involving guns, judges should be able to set more restrictive pretrial conditions
