Broome County 911 Center received multiple reports of a fire at the Knights Inn, at 2603 East Main Street in Endwell, at about 6:00 AM today, a total of 6 fatalities have been confirmed. Additional information, including the identities of the victims, will be released at a later time, 2 others were taken to Wilson Medical Center. over 70 residents have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. A temporary shelter has been set up at the Vestal United Methodist Church. Endwell Fire Department arrived to find heavy black smoke in the front of the building and flames showing from the rear of the building. The fire spread rapidly, and multiple Fire Departments, ambulance crews and police agencies arrived on scene to assist. The New York State Office of Fire, the Broome County Office of Emergency Services, Broome County Mobile Crisis Response Team is on scene, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

State Attorney General Letitia James today released guidance to help New Yorkers understand their health insurance options and avoid scams as major changes to New York's Essential Plan take effect. Beginning July 1, 2026, New Yorkers enrolled in the Essential Plan with household incomes over 200 percent of the federal poverty level will no longer be eligible for that coverage, which translates to approximately 450,000 New Yorkers who are set to lose Essential Plan coverage. New Yorkers who enrolled in health insurance through New York State of Health can get free help renewing or changing coverage from New York State of Health-certified enrollment assistors by visiting nystateofhealth.ny.gov or calling 1-855-355-5777. Anyone who believes they have been misled, scammed, or improperly enrolled in a health insurance plan is encouraged to contact OAG's Health Care Helpline for assistance.

Tomorrow is is Primary Election day around the State. Democrats will vote statewide for the Comptroller candidate between long time incumbent Tom DiNapoli and challengers Drew Warshaw and Raj Goyle. Locally Democrats in the 102nd Assembly District will decide between 3 candidates, Thomas Boomhower, Janet Tweed & Mary Finneran. In the Republican Primaries locally, Peter Oberacker & Alexander Portelli are seeking the nomination to be on the ballot for the 19th Congressional District, in the 51st State Senate District, the Republican candidates are Chris Tague & Terry Bernardo, for Otsego County Sheriff, Incumbent Rich Devlin faces a challenge from Mike Stalter, In Afton, Jason Wicks is challenging long time Town Supervisor John Lawrence.

State Police arrested 56 year old Joel Salinas of Bainbridge following a traffic stop on Chenango County Road 35 last Tuesday. Troopers observed a vehicle committing multiple violations, initiated a traffic stop, Troopers observed a sawed-off shot gun and other illegal weapons, Salinas was driving to sell the shotgun, the investigation resulted in the seizure of several other illegally possessed weapons. Salinas was charged with multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Sale of a Firearm, he was processed & transported to the Chenango County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

State Police have identified the woman who drive into a pong in Richfield Springs earlier this week as 39 year old Rachel Galesky of Richfield Springs. State Police were dispatched Tuesday Morning to the site of a pond at Skinner Road & US Route 20 after a passerby called 911 after observing what appeared to be a portion of a vehicle submerged in the pond. Troopers located the vehicle and discovered Galesky inside, they determined that she failed to stop at a stop sign and drove into the pond, The investigation is continuing.

The Village of Sidney announced the flushing of hydrants beginning Wednesday November 12th, between 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM. If your water becomes roily let your cold water run until the water is clear. In response to the local State of Emergency Declaration issued by the County of Otsego on October 28, 2024, the County has chosen to extend the local Emergency Orders for an additional 5 day period, beginning today until November 12, at 12:00 PM. The Order follows the issue of dry conditions & low water levels that creates a public safety hazard of wildfires spreading out of control quickly.

The Broome County Corrections Academy will hold its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2023 at the Holiday Inn in Downtown Binghamton, starting at 11:30 this morning. 25 graduates will officially earn the rank of Officer, after 3 months of training, learning defense tactics, studying law, Several recruits will also be recognized with individual awards.

In Delaware County, there is an election for County Judge between current District Attorney John Hubbard on the Republican line & for the Democrats, Andrew Van Buren. The winner replaces Richard Northrup, who has decided to retire after many years of service on the bench & in the District Attorney's office.

Broome County officials are investigating the death of an inmate in the Broome County Jail on Friday. 30 year-old Mitchell Lindow of Binghamton was being held on a murder charge when he was found deceased by Corrections officers conducting a head count, an autopsy was conducted Friday, no cause of death was determined.

State Police announced that 9 people were arrested & drugs were seized after search warrants were executed at Budget Inn Motel on Route 23 Southside in the town of Oneonta Thursday & Friday. Items seized included methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, crack cocaine, ecstasy, Suboxone strips & Packaging materials and scales, The investigation is on-going.

Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will hold its "3rd Friday Business & Breakfast" event this morning at the Hamden Inn. Featured speakers are Deborah Roberts and Ivana Guzy of Friends of Recovery of Delaware and Otsego Counties on ways to create recovery-friendly workplaces to eliminate barriers for those impacted by addiction. The Major's Inn Foundation in Gilbertsville announced an Open House at the Major's Inn tomorrow from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Participants can tour through the 55 room building constructed in 1897.

The tri town coalition on substance abuse prevents has 2 events this week. Tonight at the Sidney High School “Hiding the High” will be presented in an “Adults” only session, beginning at 7:00 PM. The next regular Monthly meeting of the coalition will be held Thursday night at 6:00 PM at the Sidney High School featuring Dr. Samantha Cole, regarding the unique substance abuse problems locally.

Cornell Cooperative Extension & Chobani have teamed up for a series of informational workshops regarding the financial aspects affecting the Dairy Industry. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 55 year old Kathleen Denario of Oneonta for Resisting Arrest, False Personation, Petit Larceny and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. Deputies attempted to arrest Denario on a Probation Warrant issued by Otsego County & after a complaint in the parking lot of the Hobart Inn where Denario was located. Denario was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 bond, pending action in Town of Stamford Court at a later date.

THE New York STATE CHAMPION DELHI GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM WAS HONORED IN ALBANY WEDNESDAY. THE LADY BULLDOGS WERE RECOGNIZED AT THE CAPITAL BUILDING ON THE SENATE FLOOR AND THE ASSEMBLY FLOOR BY SENATORS JAMES SEWARD, FRED AKSHAR AND JOHN BONACIC. A STATE LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION WAS PASSED CONGRATULATING THE TEAM ON winning THE CLASS-D GIRLS BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP OVER FRANKLINVILLE IN MARCH. Hall of Famers Rollie Fingers, Goose Gossage, Randy Johnson, Phil Niekro, Tim Raines and Ozzie Smith will headline Hall of Fame Classic Weekend, May 25th to the 27th in Cooperstown. The Binghamton Rumble Ponies invite fans to their annual Meet the Rumble Ponies Dinner on Tonight at the Holiday Inn in Downtown Binghamton. Tickets are on sale, at the Box Office at NYSEG Stadium. The Binghamton Mets announced that the annual "Welcome Back B-Mets" Dinner is Wednesday, April 6 at the Holiday Inn in downtown Binghamton. State Police arrested 25 year old Ian Kosciusko of Worcester for sexual abuse. The arrest occurred after troopers were advised of an incident that occurred on September 11, at the Holiday Inn on State Route 23, in the Town of Oneonta. An investigation determined that an employee had unwanted sexual contact with an adult victim, Kosciusko was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 property bond, An order of protection was issued by the court.

On Sunday, at 2:00 PM in the Overlook Park at Gilbertsville, the dedication of a National Register of Historic Places marker will take place.  The marker commemorates the placing of the entire municipality of Gilbertsville on the National Register of Historic Places in December of 1982.  The public is invited In the event of rain the ceremony and reception will be held at the Major’s Inn.  More information is available at 783-2820.
