The State Department of Labor announced today that the number of private sector jobs increased by 24,200, from October to November to over 7.6 Million, the highest numbers since before the pandemic began to affect the state 22 months ago. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 6.9% to 6.6% in November 2021.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of an Inmate of the Delaware County Correction Facility, on a warrant issued by the Chenango County Family Court. 42-Year-Old Timothy Byrne had just completed his sentence on unrelated charges, & he was turned over to Chenango County for a violation of the New York State Family Court Act & faces court action shortly.
The American Red Cross continues to need eligible donors to give blood this holiday season, as they are seeing increased demand at a time with the lowest Holiday donation rates in the last 10 years, Meg Rossman of the American Red Cross comments:

State Police at Troop C in Sidney announced today that during the month of November, 55 impaired drivers were taken off the roadways of Troop C. State Police & other law enforcement agencies throughout the state will increase patrols targeting impaired driving during the holiday travel season, as the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative begins tomorrow & runs through January 1st, to reduce impaired driving over the holidays.
The State Minimum Wage will increase for some workers on December 31st. Workers in the upstate Counties will be paid a minimum wage rate of $13.20 per hour, up from $12.50 an hour. Earlier this year, the minimum wage for individuals working at fast food establishments anywhere in the Statewas established at $15.00 per hour, there will be no further increase for them on December 31st.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies stopped a vehicle Sunday for speeding, and made contact with the driver, 62-year-old Edmund McNamara of Norwich. McNamara’s driver’s license was suspended, he was arrested for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Unlicensed Operator and Speeding, McNamara is scheduled to appear before the Town of Masonville Court at a later date to answer the charges.
Delaware County Department of Public Works reported today that the Corbett Road Bridge over the East Branch of the Delaware River and the Covered Bridge in Downsville have been re-opened to traffic this afternoon.
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced over $136 Million Dollars in federal funding for 59 airports across New York State. The funding was allocated through the recently enacted Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and can be used for a variety of infrastructure improvements. Locally, the Albert S. Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta & the Sidney Municipal airport will receive $159,000.

Delaware County Public Health reported 71 new cases of COVID 19 on Tuesday & Wednesday, 9.1% of those tested being positive. There are 296 active cases, 14 hospitalized and 482 quarantined. Delaware County Public Health will be conducting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for people 18 and older today at 97 Main Street, Delhi. Moderna 1st or 2nd doses will only be available from 2:00 to 4:00 PM for walk-ins only, while Moderna boosters will be available from 2:00 to 4:00 PM with pre-registration required at apps2.health.ny.gov. Individuals receiving boosters, need to bring a copy of previous shot records to prove eligibility, for more information, call Delaware County Public Health at 607-832-5200.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the award of $216.2 million in enhanced assistance for 88 local governments to rehabilitate and replace bridges and culverts in every region of the State. This funding, provided through the State's BRIDGE NY initiative, supports projects that reduce the risk of flooding, improve resiliency of structures, facilitate regional economic competitiveness and prioritize projects that benefit environmental justice communities. The Southern Tier region will be funded for 9 bridges & 3 culverts in this latest round of funding.

Chenango County Health Department confirmed their 92nd Resident death attributed to COVID-19 infection. Chenango County reports 321 active cases, 25% of them are fully vaccinated, there are 710 quarantined, 8 hospitalized. The United Way of Delaware and Otsego Counties’ campaign has reached 50% of its $50,000 goal. The Office of General Services has set up drop-off locations across the state , local drop off points will be the Binghamton State Office Building, 44 Hawley Street, & the Homer Folks Facility, 28 Hill Street, Oneonta.

The State Health Department reported 2 more Omicron variant cases Tuesday, in Broome and Westchester Counties. Over 149,000 were tested for COVID with 8210 positives, for a positivity rate of 5.5%, Patient Hospitalization continue to sharply increase, they are up to 3,401, with 631 Patients in an ICU and 352 on ventilators, there were 52 deaths from COVID in hospitals & Nursing Homes Tuesday.
Delhi Police arrested 28-year-old Andrew Kreger of Delhi for 6 counts of Petty Larceny, 6 counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, 6 counts of Criminal Possession of Forged Instrument and 3 counts of Forgery, follow a recent investigation. Kreger was arraigned in Delhi Town Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $25,000 secured bond.

Blood donations are desperately needed now to meet the needs of accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease. The Village of Sidney announced that the demolition of a fire damaged building will begin today. 14 East Main Street was damaged by fire a couple of years ago, the structure at the corner of East Main & Chestnut will be demolished, the project is expected to last between 3 & 5 days.
The Otsego County Health Department announced another COVID 19 death in their most recent report released Tuesday. The County had 48 new cases, 208 active cases, 8 are hospitalized, and the 7 day rolling average for positivity rate was 8.5%. Otsego County has had 878 COVID deaths since the pandemic started, 66 of them this year.
Former Broome District Attorney Steve Cornwell's case will be handled by a special prosecutor, instead of by current DA Michael Korchak. The 2 indictments accuse the former DA of public corruption and larceny during his 4-year term in office, Korchak spent 4 years as the chief assistant DA under Cornwell before taking office in January 2020 after a heated election between the 2 prosecutors.
The Former Fire House on East Main Street in Sidney will become "The Wakeman Coffee Company” soon, it will be a coffee shop & roastery, partners Sage McKinley & Jesse Wakeman told WCDO News how this business venture started, and what renovations have been done:

Gillibrand said that the price increase for milk producers would have little affect on Milk prices in the upstate counties, as most people have their dairy supplied from farms close to their hometowns, plus farmers only receive pennies on the dollar for their role in milk priduction.

The 3rd Annual Staff Works Save a Life fundraising campaign for the Delaware Valley Humane Society begins today, where donations made to the shelter will be matched by Staffworks, Humane Society Director Erin Insinga explains:

Chenango County Public Health confirmed 4 more COVID-19 attributed deaths in the county from COVID 19, bringing their total number of deaths to 91 spokesman Isaiah Sutton comments:

Chenango County continues to have COVID 19 numbers as high, or higher than the numbers they were getting in January of this year, there are 238 active cases, 1/3 of which are fully vaccinated, 5 are hospitalized and 582 are quarantined.
Bassett Healthcare Network announced that they are now offering COVID-19 vaccines to everyone aged 5 and older. Vaccines are available for children ages 5 to 11 in pediatric clinics and school-based health centers across the region, parents should make an appointment by calling the child’s practitioner. In the first year of the pandemic, WIC providers reported a 2.5% increase in WIC participation, and more than 360,000 low-income New Yorkers continue relying on this social safety net to feed themselves and their families. To keep up with the growing need, Gillibrand’s bill would codify 2 waivers granted through the Families First Coronavirus Response Act that simplified user access to WIC benefits by offering remote services, and it would also invest $60 million to modernize the critical safety net program.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that over $81 million has been awarded to support 97 priority projects across New York State through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative. The State Department of Labor released preliminary local unemployment rates for October, the State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 7.1% in September to 6.9% in October 2021. Locally, Chenango County had 3.7% unemployment, Delaware & Otsego Counties both had 3.9% unemployment in October.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that all New Yorkers enrolled in the SNAP will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for November. All households participating in SNAP will receive a supplemental allotment later this month, bringing in roughly $230 million in federal funding into the state's economy. Struggling New Yorkers continue to rely heavily on SNAP as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, as of September, there were more than 2.77 million SNAP recipients throughout the state.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a trespass in progress Monday at a residence in the Village of Walton. Deputies determined that no trespass had occurred, and that the initial report was the result of a domestic dispute, they determined that 35-year-old Katrina Stanton of Deposit had driven her vehicle to the scene, & Stanton’s Driver’s License was suspended for failure to answer a previous a summons in the Town of Franklin. Senator Gillibrand said today that the program was created to alleviate student loan debt for individuals committed to public service careers for at least 10 years, but in recent years a small percentage actually received the delivered promise:

Senator Gillibrand is pushing for passage of the What You Can Do for Your Country Act, which would expand PSLF eligibility so that every type of federal loan and repayment plan is included in the program and would provide a partial forgiveness benefit after five years. Gillibrand said that 1 out of every 14 participants denied loan forgiveness lives in New York, only 1.2% of New York participants have had their loans forgiven.
State Police arrested Chenango County Sheriff Candidate Debra Cubbedge of Norwich on Tuesday, along with 21 year old Kymani Frazer of Yonkers, they were both arrested for 2nd degree criminal trespass, after Troopers were dispatched to a dispute at a residence on County Road 44 in the town of Plymouth. State Police said that Frazer and Cubbedge entered the residence without permission and remained inside unlawfully; they left prior to the trooper’s arrival and were located in the City of Norwich. Cubbedge & Frazer were released, and will return to Plymouth Town Court on October 27.

Governor Kathy Hochul says New York will appeal Judge David Hurd's decision to continue to allow religious exemptions to the state’s vaccine mandate for health care workers. Judge Hurd blocked the state from enforcing the mandate, Governor Hochul said Wednesday she is working with the state attorney general’s office to appeal the decision in the second circuit Court of Appeals.

Gillibrand said that she told top Military Brass this week that mental health issues can no longer be swept under the rug:

The American Red Cross continues to ask for eligible people to donate blood, as blood supplies are at their lowest since the summer of 2015 locally. Blood Drives are being held locally today in Morris from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Zion Episcopal Church, at 162 Main Street, and in South Kortright from 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM at the South Kortright Central School on State Highway 10. State Police were dispatched to State Route 28 in Andes for a State DOT truck struck by a vehicle. An investigation at the scene revealed that 4 DOT workers were in a truck retrieving cones in a work zone. 2 of the occupants of the DOT truck exited the vehicle when a 43-year-old male rear ended it. The 43-year-old male was not injured. The driver of the DOT truck, a 53-year-old male sustained a shoulder injury, A 24-year-old male passenger in the DOT truck was not injured, the 2 DOT workers that had stepped out were injured after they jumped over the guiderail; one had a minor Knee injury, the other sustained a laceration to the arm, he was transported to O’Connor Hospital for further medical care. Impairment was not a factor in the crash.

A new study conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture appears to indicate white-tailed deer can carry the COVID-19 virus, but health officials say the chances of a human getting infected by a COVID-positive deer are low, but they still urge hunters to take precautions. The study analyzed serum samples from free-ranging white-tailed deer in four states, New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Illinois, 40% of deer tested were positive for antibodies, meaning they had been exposed to the virus at some point. The New York Department of Environmental Conservation said that the risk of animals spreading COVID-19 to people is low.

The American Red Cross continues to ask for eligible people to donate blood, as blood supplies are at their lowest since the summer of 2015 locally. Blood Drives are being held locally today in Morris from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Zion Episcopal Church, at 162 Main Street, and in South Kortright from 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM at the South Kortright Central School on State Highway 10. State Police were dispatched to State Route 28 in Andes for a State DOT truck struck by a vehicle. An investigation at the scene revealed that 4 DOT workers were in a truck retrieving cones in a work zone. 2 of the occupants of the DOT truck exited the vehicle when a 43-year-old male rear ended it. The 43-year-old male was not injured. The driver of the DOT truck, a 53-year-old male sustained a shoulder injury, A 24-year-old male passenger in the DOT truck was not injured, the 2 DOT workers that had stepped out were injured after they jumped over the guiderail; one had a minor Knee injury, the other sustained a laceration to the arm, he was transported to O’Connor Hospital for further medical care. Impairment was not a factor in the crash.

A new study conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture appears to indicate white-tailed deer can carry the COVID-19 virus, but health officials say the chances of a human getting infected by a COVID-positive deer are low, but they still urge hunters to take precautions. The study analyzed serum samples from free-ranging white-tailed deer in four states, New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Illinois, 40% of deer tested were positive for antibodies, meaning they had been exposed to the virus at some point. The New York Department of Environmental Conservation said that the risk of animals spreading COVID-19 to people is low.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced Ubiquity Solar will establish its U.S. solar photovoltaic manufacturing operations at the former IBM site in Endicott. The company expects to repurpose 800,000 square-feet of space at the former campus, representing an approximately $61 million investment, Ubiquity Solar expects to create up to 150 highly skilled jobs, they expect to be fully operational at the Endicott campus by the end of 2022.

Governor Kathy Hochul said today that she will challenge a court order issued by a federal judge in Utica Tuesday, which temporarily bars the enforcement of the state's medical worker vaccine mandate for those seeking religious exemptions in New York. The original mandate requires most medical workers statewide to get the first COVID-19 vaccine dose by September 27th, or risk losing their jobs. On Tuesday U.S. Northern District Justice David Hurd issued the restraining order after 17 Christian medical professionals sued state officials Monday, Judge Hurd gave state officials until September 22nd to respond to the lawsuit and set a court hearing for September 28th.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand continues to push for the implementation of the Health Force, a multibillion-dollar public health legislation passed in the American Rescue Plan earlier this year:

Gillibrand successfully secured nearly $8 billion for her Health Force legislation, to create a public health workforce to aid vaccine distribution and mobilize community leaders to improve health outcomes in their communities. Gillibrand said that New York is projected to lose about 39,000 nursing jobs by 2030.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced a series of universal mask requirements that applies to New York State Office of Children and Family Services-licensed and -registered child care centers, home-based group family and family child care programs, after-school child care programs and enrolled legally exempt group programs during operational hours. New masking requirements will also apply to congregate programs and facilities licensed, registered, operated, certified or approved by the Office of Mental Health, the Office of Addiction Services and Supports, the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities, Office of Children and Family Services and the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.
The Village of Sidney Clerk's office is temporarily closed until further notice at the Sidney Civic Center, starting today. The drop box on their office door at the 1st floor Village office can be utilized; residents can also call 561-2339.
The State DEC announced that the Berry Hill fire tower in the town of McDonough is now open to the public for recreation. About $125,000 was spent on upgrades to enhance safety and accessibility for the 59 foot tower which was originally erected in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps for fire protection.

Chobani is helping families affected by Hurricane Ida and evacuees from Afghanistan, housed on U.S. military bases, by donating and delivering nearly 300,000 products. In the wake of Hurricane Ida, and to assist our troops who are caring for refugees evacuated from Afghanistan, Chobani is dispatching trucks full of food from the company's Chenango County plant to the New York City area, Louisiana, Virginia and New Jersey.
On September 13th, shortly before 8:00 PM, State Police at Oneonta responded to a report of a physical domestic dispute at a residence on State Highway 28 in the town of Meredith. During the physical dispute, one person was stabbed and later flown to Albany Medical Center where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The incident remains under investigation.

The latest report shows that as of August 31, more than 6.3 million individuals; or 1 in 3 New Yorkers, are enrolled in health coverage through the Marketplace, Enrollment has increased across all marketplace programs since April when the state began implementing the changes. State Police arrested 45 year old Jeremy Barcoski of Lincoln Park, New Jersey for Petty Larceny, after Troopers were dispatched to a report of man who stole items from Speedway on State Route 8 in Unadilla and left in a vehicle. Troopers were able to locate the vehicle, troopers learned that Barcoski used a Lottery machine inside the store and it didn’t give him back the appropriate change, so he stole items from the store. Barcoski was arrested & he was released on an appearance ticket to the Unadilla Town Court on October 18th.

The State Health Department reports that 95% of Recent COVID Positive tests are linked to the Delta Variant. So far, More Than 23 Million Vaccine Shots have been delivered Statewide, with over 52,000 Vaccine Doses Administered Over the most recent 24 Hour period. Over 156,000 people were tested for COVID Tuesday. With over 4700, or just over 3% testing positive. 75 more New Yorkers were hospitalized bring the total close to 1900, over 380 patients are in ICU Beds, 157 are on ventilators. There were 20 COVID deaths reported.
New York State 1st Responders & Law Enforcement Agencies Are Gearing up For action that may be necessary due to the heavy downpours that may come from Tropical Storm Fred. The State Department of Transportation will be patrolling areas susceptible to flooding. State Police has instructed all Troopers to remain vigilant and closely monitor conditions for any problems. Additional personnel will be deployed to affected areas as needed, including in the Southern Tier, Central New York. All four-wheel drive vehicles and all specialty vehicles, including Utility Terrain Vehicles, are in-service. Utility companies are urged to be ready to respond for issues masticated with flash flooding as well as downed trees & power lines.
Governor Andrew Cuomo is now being investigated for alleged sexual harassment by the Manhattan & Westchester District Attorney's offices, in addition to the investigation already underway by the Albany County Sheriff’s Department. The findings of the State Assembly Impeachment investigation are being turned over to all who are investigating Cuomo's alleged improprieties.
Following the United States Department of Agriculture’s announcement that up to $500 million in American Rescue Plan emergency rural health care funding will be newly available, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is encouraging all eligible New York entities to apply ahead of the deadline. Applicants may apply for Impact Grants by October 12th, and Recovery Grants on a continual basis until funds are expended.
