Sholtes said that 23 of the 1976 4th Graders will be there Saturday, after the parade from the Unatego Elementary School to the Community House, The Time Capsule will be opened at 12:00 Noon. A new Tricentennial time capsule for 2076 is being organized by the Rotary Club of Unadilla. Anyone is invited to contribute an item to be opened on July 4, 2076.

The Unadilla Fire Department announced an update on the I-88 Closure between Exit 10 and Exit 12. I-88 is currently closed westbound at Exit 12, to Exit 10, also the Route 357 bridge over the Susquehanna River is closed at this time, due to tractor trailers being unable to safely navigate the detour turn on to State Route 7. Motorists are urged to allow for extra travel time, and exercise caution while traveling along the detour on State Route 7.

Unadilla will unearth & open a time capsule this July 4th that was buried on July 4th 1976 as part of the nation's Bicentennial Celebrations, Unadilla Mayor Jake Cotten told WCDO News about the big day:

Cotten said that the Unadilla Rotary Club plans to place a number of items in a time capsule & bury it the same day, to have it opened 50 years later, to keep the tradition going.

The Rotary Club of Bainbridge is holding their annual Election Day Pancake event at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Bainbridge. the event runs from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM and again from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.

The Unadilla Chamber of Commerce will hold their next meeting this morning. The Meeting will be held at the Bauer Community Center on Main Street, Unadilla at 8:00.

Les Gregory of Sidney will turn 100 years old on Sunday, there will be Celebration for Gregory on Saturday at the Sidney Fire Station, Mr. Gregory told WCDO News of how he made it to 100 yeas of age & how he is humbled by all the attention he has received:

Halbert said that Gregory served in the Army Air Core, which turned into the Air force, over 28 years, he operated his own insurance business, volunteered in the Sidney & other Fire Departments for over 70 years, he created the Delaware County Arson Task Force and is a long time Sidney Rotary member. Halbert said that every Sidney household will get a copy of the Walton Reporter this week, which spotlights Les Gregory's life. Insinga said that the Unadilla House had become problematic with squatters and drug users damaging the property in recent years, the squatters have left and they are now hoping to turn that around, re-open the business & fix the apartments.

Delaware County Public Health announced that a 53rd death from COVID 19 complications, they have had 100 new positive cases in the last week, there are 118 active cases, 4 hospitalized and 170 are quarantined.  The CDC & Delaware County Public Health recommends everyone should wear a mask indoors in public places.  Vaccine clinic sites at can be found at covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov.  Currently, 49.4% of the Delaware County population is vaccinated, 77% of the positive cases are unvaccinated, 23% of the positive cases are vaccinated & 2.5% of positive cases are college students/employees.

The Sidney Rotary Club & the Cullman Child Development Center will hold a "Family of Heroes" Event for area Children on Sunday at the Sidney Veteran's Memorial Park, according to spokesman Larry Halbert:

Halbert said that the Event was scheduled in July & was postponed due to the weather, the event on the 12th runs from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.

The Unadilla Valley Central School District will host a 5K run/walk at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, July 17, for 14 year old Cooper Hine, who is a Unadilla Valley 8th Grader, who was seriously injured in an ATV crash in New Berlin recently.  Another fundraising chicken barbecue and Chinese auction will follow at the South New Berlin Fire Department on July 17th.  Hine is hospitalized at the Upstate Medical center in Syracuse.

State Police arrested 55 year old
Robert Horan of Unadilla for Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Forcible
Touching, after an investigation of an incident in Unadilla in January.  Horan is a case worker with Otsego County,
the incident did not occur as a part of Horan’s official work duties;  he was arraigned & was released on his
own recognizance and is due back in court on April 13th.

State Police responded to Betty Beavers Gas Mart on County
Road 48 in the town of Otego early this morning for a report of a vehicle that
crashed into a concrete wall.   Troopers
reported that an unidentified 27-year-old woman from Unadilla was operating a
2015 Kia at a high rate of speed on State Highway 991J, she traveled through
the intersection of County Road 48, through the parking lot of Betty Beavers
Gas Mart and into the wall.  Troopers
pulled the woman out of the vehicle and life saving measures were performed by
Otego EMS personnel but were unsuccessful.
The body was transported to Lourdes Hospital for an autopsy & the
investigation is continuing.

The village of Unadilla will be holding their annual metal
pick-up today between hours of 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.  NO RUBBER, PLASTIC, GLASS, OIL, PAINT OR
OTHER LIQUID WASTE WILL BE PICKED-UP & that includes Freon which would be
in refrigerators, or air conditioners. Metals must be placed at curb by 7:00

The Sidney Rotary Club will hold their next Membership night

The Village of Unadilla
announced that crews repaired a small water main break, at Cone Lane & Old
Village Lane this morning.  Service
affected about 12 to 15 customers, customers should let the water run until it
is clear.

61-year-old Phillip Stein of Binghamton was charged with 3rd
degree attempted robbery in connection with Thursday's Bank robbery at
Citizen's bank in Binghamton.   Stein is
accused of entering the Bank at 10:25 AM and gave a bank teller a note that
demanded cash, he ran before taking any money.
Stein was apprehended near the bank in the area of Glenwood Avenue, he
was also charged with violation of parole.

State police are asking for the public's help in locating 39 year old James Sitts of Oneonta, who is wanted in connection with a grand larceny investigation. Sitts is described as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 165 pounds with brown hair, blue eyes and a beard, he has several distinctive tattoos on his neck and right arm, his last known address was in the Lantern Hill Trailer Park in Oneonta. Anyone with information is asked to call state police at (607) 561-7400.

Federal law Enforcement officials arrested 41 year old Justin Hobbie of Springfield, on child pornography charges. Hobbie was working as a physical education teacher & was formerly a girls’ soccer coach in the Cooperstown School District. District officials alerted parents of the arrest this morning, they did not believe that any incident involving a Cooperstown Student occurred, the investigation is continuing.

60 year old Lynn Beilby of South New Berlin has been charged with animal abuse, for allegedly torturing an animal and failing to provide sustenance to an animal. Beilby is scheduled to appear in the Town of Morris Court on January 14th to answer to the charges.

The Village of Franklin will hold their annual Christmas celebration tomorrow. The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce announces a variety of events to be held Saturday. The highlight will be a parade starting at 5:00 PM, there will also be a library open house from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, and carolers, and after the parade be sure to go to the Episcopal Church (with red doors) for your photos with Santa.

State Police arrested 37 year old Michael Collins of Butternuts, for Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and Criminal Mischief, after Troopers were dispatched to a residence on Wilbur Hill Road in the town of Butternuts for a domestic dispute. After an investigation, troopers determined that Collins and a victim were involved in an argument that turned physical, where Collins is accused of choking, taking a phone away when the victim attempted to call for help and not allowing the victim to leave. Collins was arraigned in the town of Butternuts Court where he was released on his own recognizance. The judge issued an order of protection to the victim.

The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage and they are hosting 3 blood drives today. In Oneonta, a blood drive is being held at SUNY Oneonta from 12:00 Noon until 5:00 PM, one is being held in Cooperstown from 1:00 to 6:00 PM at the Clark's Sports Center, & another is being held in Morris from 1:00 to 6:00 PM at the Zion Episcopal Church on Main Street. Otsego County held its 20th annual Hazardous Waste Collection Day this past weekend. The satellite event in Unadilla served about 120 cars, the Meadows Office Complex collection served 522 cars dropping off hazardous materials. Pharmaceuticals and medications were collected free of charge again this year, with about 160 pounds collected for incineration.

The Sidney Rotary Club announced that Sidney Central School District Superintendent Bill Christensen will be presenting a program to Rotary Friday at St. Luke's Church, regarding updates at the District. The public is invited for Lunch at noon for $9.00 or at 12:40 for the Superintendent's presentation.

State Police arrested 30 year old Jonathan Wilcox of Unadilla for 3rd degree Assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, and Harassment, after troopers were advised of a physical dispute on July 12th in the town of Unadilla. Troopers accuse Wilcox of throwing his girlfriend to the ground and choking her. Wilcox was arraigned in the town of Unadilla court and was released without bail, he faces court action on August 14th.

Fox Hospital & Tri Town Regional Hospital President Jeff Joyner will be the guest speaker at the Sidney Rotary club today. The meeting will be held at the St. Luke’s church on West Main Street in Sidney at 12:00 Noon.

The Otsego County Board of Representatives has requested an employee file from Otsego County Sheriff Richard Devlin. The board wants to review potential violations of the county’s workplace violence prevention program & what if any disciplinary actions were taken, regarding the sheriff’s son, Corrections Officer Ross Devlin. Ed Frazier also said that during their workplace violence investigation, other information came to light regarding disciplinary procedures and treatment of inmates at the Otsego County Jail.

The Sidney High School and the Tri Town Coalition on Substance Abuse prevention will hold a substance abuse education night on Wednesday march 22nd at 6:00 PM. A 2nd Sidney Rotary Club Grant has been awarded for local efforts in combating the Heroin crisis locally. The Recovery Coach Training Grant will allow for up to 25 people to be trained to assist those recovering from addiction, according to spokesperson Lorraine Keckeisen:

Keckeisen said that the efforts to create a coalition for the tri town area has been successful, the coalition will be called "the TRI-TOWN COALITION ON SUBSTANCE ABUSE". Also, plans are being formulated to schedule Narcan Training with Joseph Filippone of Catholic Charities at the Tri-Town Regional Hospital in Sidney in the fall.

The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce will host the next 4-Chamber mixer to be held today at Highway 7 Bar & Grill in Bainbridge. The meeting will begin at 6 :00, members of the Sidney, Bainbridge, Afton & Unadilla chambers are urged to attend.

The Doors will open at 6:00 & the presentations start 6:15. Keckeisen said that they would Establish Work Groups, & set Priorities with the goal of creating a Sidney Tri-Town Area Coalition to fight the ongoing Heroin & Opioid crisis.

State Senator Jim Seward announced that community libraries throughout the 51st senatorial district have been awarded a total of $235,613 in public library construction grant funds. Locally, the Kinney Memorial Library in Hartwick will receive $25,035 to Replace old windows and add insulation, the Unadilla Public Library will receive $35,475 to Replace inefficient windows and light fixtures and interior renovations, the Village Library of Cooperstown will receive $23,327 for Interior renovations & the Worcester Free Library will get $23,606 for insulation.

State Police arrested 32-year-old Joseph Little of Sidney Aggravated DWI with a BAC result of .20%, and other traffic violations. Little was observed failing to use a designated lane on State Route 7 in the Town of Unadilla, he was arraigned in the Town of Unadilla court and was remanded to the Otsego County jail on $500 cash bail or $1,000 property bond pending future court action.

NYSEG reports a power outage this morning & this afternoon affecting 649 customers in Otsego County. Affected areas include the towns of Butternuts, Gilbertsville, Mount Upton & Unadilla, Students at the Gilbertsville Mount Upton School District were dismissed early due to the power outage, Crews hope to have the power restored as soon as possible.
