Several law enforcement agencies commented at a press conference in Binghamton today regarding the Fire at the Knight's Inn of Endwell June 22nd, State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Captain Lucas Anthony discussed the investigation & released the names of those deceased in Monday's Fire:

State Police arrested 24 year old Tyler Russell of Endwell, Monday for 6 counts of 2nd degree Manslaughter & 1 count of Arson, he is being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility without bail pending Grand Jury action.


Norwich Police Department executed a search warrant at 41 Cortland Street following an investigation into the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics. 39 year old Shawn Utter of Norwich, & 24 year old Brittany Cox were charged with several Counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Nuisance & Conspiracy, Officers seized cash from suspected drug sales, drug measuring equipment, methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, marijuana, various pills, & weapons, The Village of Sidney Police Department assisted on scene with their drug detecting K9 unit, Utter was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail pending further proceedings. Cox was processed and arraigned in Norwich City Court, where she was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail.


The FBI & the Johnson City Police Department arrested 69 year old Robert Randesi of Johnson City on federal drug & weapons charges after the execution of search warrant at a warehouse style building in Johnson City. Officers located over 20 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, quantities of marijuana, approximately $24,000 in cash, several firearms including AR-15 style rifles, ghost guns, firearm parts and ammunition, plus machinist tools and metal fabricating equipment consistent with tools used to construct or mill firearms & their parts. Randesi is currently in the Broome County Jail, He faces court action for both state and federal charges.


The State DOT announced the start of the $7 million Southside Oneonta Safety and Mobility Improvement Project, which will reduce traffic congestion and enhance pedestrian access along the State Route 23 and State Route 28 corridor. The project includes extended turning lanes, a new sidewalk and an additional pedestrian crosswalk, ADA-compliant curb ramps, plus 2 new bus stops for Oneonta Public Transit users, construction will be continuing through the fall of 2027.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Mark Andrews of Schenevus, for DWI, Refusal to take Breath Test, Failure to Keep Right, Driving on slopes and shoulders and Speed not reasonable and prudent following a 1 car property damage motor vehicle accident in the Town of Middlefield. Andrews was processed and released & will appear in Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.


State Police arrested 41 year old Donatello Lazarati of Baldwinsville for Grand Larceny, after an investigation revealed that Lazarati was working with the Assigned Counsel Program in Chenango County, Lazarati submitted duplicate billing to Chenango County for the same legal services and accepted payment. Chenango County sustained a financial loss of approximately $4,700. Lazarati was arrested was arrested, and was turned over to members of Troop C, he was processed & then transported to the Chenango County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.


38 year old Ronald Boerner of Andes pleaded guilty in the Town of Andes Court to Driving While Impaired by Drugs and was sentenced to a 1-year conditional discharge, he will be required to attend a Victim Impact Panel, Impaired Driver’s Program and his license will be revoked for at least six months., if he violates any terms or conditions of his conditional discharge, he could be re-sentenced to 1 year in jail. On October 15, 2025, State Police responded to a 2 car accident in Andes, they found that a vehicle was rear-ended when turning into a parking lot, Boerner failed Field Sobriety Tests and was arrested.


The Chenango County Historical Society is collaborating with Commerce Chenango to host the annual Summer Barn Party from 5 to 7 pm. on June 25 at 43 Rexford Street. Historical Society Executive Director Jessica Moquin said that they will also be trying to raise funds during the events:

The National Weather Service is investigating the damage reported around the State from yesterday's thunderstorms, which included a tornado watch for much of the region. Locally, significant damage was reported where a roof was torn from a barn on County Road 14 in the Village of Earlville. In Smyrna, a tree came down on a house. The National Weather Service Investigators are canvassing the region today, more results are expected to be released in the coming days.


Oneonta is going “Four for the Fourth.” with a long weekend of activities to celebrate America 250, July 2 through July 5 at several sites across the city. Oneonta City Historian Mark Simonson told WCDO News that a few more activities have been added to Thursday July 2nd:

UHS Chenango Memorial will host their career exploration program again this year, where Area students will once again have an opportunity to explore careers in healthcare through a summer program hosted on Thursday, August 6 and Friday, August 7. The program is free of charge, but space is limited. Interested students must submit an application and a short essay by Thursday, July 2 to be considered. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies attempted to stop a motor vehicle on State Highway 10 in the Stamford/Hobart area, 29-year-old Wesley Eignor of Stamford failed to stop and continued on, eventually stopping in a parking lot, Eignor was taken into custody, he attempted to fight the Deputies, he was charged with Attempted Assault, 2 counts of Obstruction of Governmental Administration, plus Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle as well as for multiple vehicle and traffic offenses, Eignor was processed at the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where he was arraigned and held on bail.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 32 year old Skyler Smith of Davenport following a traffic stop. Deputies observed a vehicle being operated in the dark with no operable lights, the driver was a 16-year-old juvenile, operating with a permit. The passenger was Smith, who was actively on Probation, was intoxicated and was in possession of an open container and narcotics. Smith was arrested for 1 count each of Endangering the Welfare of a Child & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, & several traffic violations, Smith was processed and released on appearance tickets.


A 2nd Fundraiser has been scheduled for Luszi's Legacy Saving Senior Paws. Their 1st fundraiser raised $4,000 in a fund for a Norwich Area veterinary clinic, to be used to help people deal with the cost of treating an elderly pet, program founder Anett Slater told WCDO News about the Cornhole Tournament in June 20th in Norwich:

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office and the Broome County Health Department provided an update on the response to the outbreak of Salmonella that hit the Broome County Correctional Facility earlier this week. Over 300 incarcerated individuals reporting gastrointestinal illness since Monday, 10 were hospitalized, Dozens of medical and healthcare workers responded, hundreds of bottles of water were sent, antibiotics were provided, After it was determined that Salmonella was what affected the inmates, On Thursday, Servpro completed a deep cleaning of all kitchen, programming areas, hallways and common areas within the Correctional Facility. All laundry and linens have been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Today, regular schedules resumed, visitation hours return on Monday morning.


State Police today announced that they issued a total of 11,104 tickets statewide during the Memorial Day Weekend enforcement campaign. Troopers arrested 211 people for DWI and investigated 693 crashes, with four fatal crashes reported. In Troop C, there were 894 tickets issued, 12 for DWI, 254 for speeding, 195 seat belts violations & 52 violators of the Move Over Law.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old Alexander Gutierrez of Milford & 28 year old Jordan Gutierrez-Champen for Introducing dangerous contraband in to prison & Conspiracy, following an investigation into suspicious activity in the Otsego County Jail in 2025. Investigators were notified by corrections staff that they had intercepted a letter hidden in a bible which detailed the receipt of contraband by mail to an inmate, they obtained a search warrant for Gutierrez-Champen’s mail, a page had been saturated with a controlled substance later identified as a synthetic cannabis known as “K2.” On Wednesday, deputies located Alexander Gutierrez in the Town of Otego and took him in to custody, he was processed and released. On Thursday deputies responded to the Lakeview Correctional Facility in Chautauqua County and took Jordan Gutierrez-Champen in to custody, he was transported to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office where he was held for Arraignment.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced the successful use of Thermal Imaging Drone Aids in Locating Missing Person Sunday night. Deputies responded to a call of a missing vulnerable adult in the Town of Edmeston, Deputies quickly initiated a coordinated search & they deployed a Sheriff’s Office Unmanned Aerial System equipped with thermal imaging technology, Using the drone’s advanced capabilities, deputies successfully located the individual in a field. The K-9 team and responding deputies found the missing person, who was suffering from hypothermia and complaining of hip pain. The victim was taken to Bassett Medical Center for further evaluation.


Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 30 year old Johnathon Brezinsky of Sidney for Promoting prison contraband at the Delaware County Correctional Facility. Investigators were notified by Correctional Facility Staff that an Inmate was found to be in possession of dangerous contraband within the Facility, Brezinsky was arrested, arraigned and was remanded back to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 dollars cash bail, $20,000 dollars partially secured bond, and he faces court action shortly.


State Police arrested 39 year old Joshua Skobern of Johnson City after an investigation into an arson at self-service car wash in Endicott. Skobern was charged with Criminal Mischief, 5th degree Arson after Troopers responded to Enviro Auto Wash on Watson Boulevard for damage that occurred on April 12, to a car wash payment kiosk. An investigation determined that Skobern punched the payment kiosk then struck it with a spray wand and then used a lighter to burn the face-plate, causing damage. Troopers located Skobern at his residence. He was taken into custody and was processed and was issued appearance tickets to the Union Town Court on April 28.


Delaware Opportunities is contracted to run the County Senior meals program at 6 locations, plus with deliveries, funded through state and federal subsidies, during contract negotiations with the County, officials determined that the program is not sustainable at the current costs, on Tuesday, the County Board of Supervisors Office for the Aging oversight committee moved to provide for a pro-rated contract with Delaware Opportunities to expire on December 31, then in 2027 the Senior Meals program would be administered through the county rather than a 3rd party. If Delaware Opportunities ceases operation immediately, Delaware County would continue the service without interruption as a County-run program, through the Office for the Aging, with no change to site or staff.


UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital, in partnership with the Norwich Family YMCA, will host a free educational program tonight focused on helping baseball and softball players stay strong, and injury-free throughout the season. UHS Spokesperson Melissa Stagnaro explains:

Norwich Police executed a search warrant Friday on East Main Street & Arrested 52 year old Delf King, following a Chenango County Court indictment. King was charged with 3 counts of Burglary, Attempted Robbery, and 2nd & 3rd degree Assault. King was arraigned on the charges & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $40,000 bail, pending future court action.


The online auction for the Grand Union Plaza at 54 East Main Street in Norwich, began Monday, with a starting bid of $500,000. Norwich Mayor Robert Jeffrey told WCDO News that they are talking to grocery industry people & federal & state lawmakers to try to get interest in the site:

The grocery store at that location closed with little advance warning recently, leaving downtown Norwich without easy access to groceries, and adding to the unemployment rate in the region when all of the workers were let go.


The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced that 10 projects and individuals have been recognized with 2026 New York State Historic Preservation Awards. Locally, the MARK Project of Arkville, will receive the Joan K. Davidson Award, They have spent over 40 years advancing community revitalization in the central Catskills through collaborative, locally driven initiatives and becoming a model for community-based revitalization, uniting local leaders, residents, and funding partners, through initiatives in affordable housing, economic development, local MARK PROJECTfood systems, tourism, farming, civic planning, and downtown revitalization.


The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce announced their 2026 Annual Award Winners, the Business of the Year is Unalam, the Eugene A. State Police arrested 30 year old Mark Lunsford of Norwich for Attempted Assault & Criminal Mischief after Troopers were dispatched to a domestic dispute on County Road in the Town of Plymouth. Lunsford allegedly punched the victim & struck the victim in the head with a glass bottle, the fight was broken up by a 3rd party, Lunsford left the scene & was located in Norwich and arrested & was transported to the Chenango County Jail for Arraignment.


SFCU announced a $500,000 pledge in Impact Project loans this year, to help that non-profit help people with various repairs to their homes that they may not be able to afford, SFCU President Jim Reynolds told WCDO news about the loans & additional funding for the Impact Project:

Reynolds said that SFCU will assist a different non profit each quarter this year to address a variety of issues that area residents & their members may be dealing with. The Impact Project was started by Jim Willard in Greene over 20 years ago to assist people in the Southern Tier make crucial home repairs that they couldn't afford:

State Police announced today that troopers issued 8,263 tickets during a special STOP-DWI traffic enforcement initiative conducted over Super Bowl weekend. The campaign ran from Friday, through Sunday, State Police increased patrols statewide. During the enforcement period, State Troopers arrested 177 drivers for DWI and investigated 822 crashes, including one fatal crash statewide. In the Southern Tier there were 11 DWI, 194 for speeding, 11 for Distracted driving, 27 for child restraint & seat belts violation, and 9 for the Move Over Law.


lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado announced that he has decided to end his campaign for Governor today. Delgado polled poorly among Democrats in the recent Sienna Poll against incumbent Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul by almost a 6 to 1 margin, Hochul replaced Delgado on the gubernatorial race tickets with Former New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 43 year old Leon Marriott of Utica following a traffic stop in the Town of Edmeston. Deputies conducted a traffic stop, Marriott fled the scene & Deputies took him into custody after a brief chase, Marriott was charged with a number of traffic violations, plus unlawfully fleeing a Police Officer, Criminal possession of a Controlled substance, for the possession of Methamphetamine, he was was processed and later released with an Appearance Ticket for Town of Edmeston Court at a later date.


Otsego County Sheriff's office & State Police are investigating the deaths of 2 people in Roseboom. On February 1, deputies & State Police responded to the scene after Otsego County 911 received a report that two individuals were discovered unresponsive by a neighbor. The deceased were determined to be a 70-year-old female and a 77-year-old male, there was no evidence of a crime, the investigation is continuing.


The Susquehanna SPCA responded to the call of farm animals left abandoned in Guilford, the owners left the farm, with dogs, a cat, chickens, a pig, a horse, a mini horse, and a ram, were left without food & sustenance, the animals were removed the the SPCA farm in Cooperstown, after the owners surrendered the animals.
