The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year-old
Lenard Cox of Masonville, who is a registered sex offender & who is accused
of failing to register 5 separate email and or internet accounts. Cox was charged with 5 counts of Sex Offender
Failure to Report a Change of Address, he was arraigned in the Town of Delhi
Court where he pled guilty to one count of Attempted Failure to Register an
Address Change, he remains in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
Governor Cuomo today announced the launch of the 3rd
round of the Energy to Lead competition with $5 million available for New York
colleges and universities to lower their carbon footprint & reduce energy
use. The competition is open to 2 or 4-year
colleges or universities that are REV Campus Challenge members and it is
administered through NYSERDA. Proposals will be accepted through February 20,
2020. Ongoing projects under previous
rounds include the Broome Community College's "Geothermal Learning
Laboratory" to install a closed loop geothermal system that uses the heat
energy stored in the earth.
Registration is now open for the 6th Annual DCMO BOCES
Mountain Mover 5K race on October 26th at 10:00 am in Norwich. The money raised
at this event directly contributes to school and career success for area
youth. The 5k is a trail run through
the woods behind the BOCES campus in Norwich.

Delaware County Sheriff Craig
DuMond and Sidney Central School District Administrators remind motorists that
passing stopped school buses is illegal & it creates a grave danger to
children that use the Busses to & from School. The Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer
assigned to the Sidney Central School received 2 complaints recently from the
School District's Transportation Director regarding motorists passing stopped
school busses. Sidney School buses are
equipped with state of the art video cameras capable of capturing images of
passing vehicles and their license plate numbers during the 2 incidents, the
drivers were identified & were ticketed.
Firefighters from Sidney Center & Surrounding
communities responded to an outdoor furnace fire at the Fieldstone House on
Wheat Hill Road in Sidney Center. The
fire was reported at about 12:30 PM, the shed was a total loss, the house
itself was untouched, and no injuries were reported.

to go back to the 250 class after racing in the 450 in previous years:

About 550 customers were without power, at about 11:00 AM, the number
was down to 100 by midafternoon, crews are working to restore power as soon as
possible.
Governor Cuomo signed legislation creating a Class E felony
for staged motor vehicle accidents when a person intentionally causes a motor
vehicle collision with the intent to commit a fraudulent insurance act. This
measure also creates a class D felony for when a person commits the same crime
and causes serious physical injury to another individual who was not a
participant in the crime. The
legislation is named after Alice Ross, who was killed when her vehicle was
struck by another vehicle, which was the result of an intentional attempt to
commit auto insurance fraud by the other driver who planned to file insurance
claims and receive a substantial settlement as a result of the crash.

Ed Curley of Sidney continues his bicycle trek across
America to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes research Foundation, the
afternoon Ed was in San Antonio Texas, with the final destination of St.
Augustine Florida, he gave WCDO News an update on his progress:

Curley said that he hopes to raise about $10,000 with this effort;
donations can be made the JDRF.org.
The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce is asking its members
to complete their annual survey. All answers by respondents will remain confidential,
the answers will help the Chamber in their efforts to ensure that the services
of the Chamber meet the needs of businesses.

completed by July 26th.
The Chenango County Planning Department, working in
conjunction with Opportunities for Chenango, is slated for a $500,000 Community
Block Grant through the New York State Office of Homes and Community Renewal.
Money will be allocated to income-eligible homeowners in need of making vital
home improvements. The plan would need
to be approved by the Chenango County Board of Supervisors before the money
could be made available to homeowners.
This year's Utica Boilermaker race was delayed for about 15
minutes Sunday, not because of any weather related issues, but because of a
homicide near the starting line. One
woman was pronounced dead at the scene &
man was taken to an area hospital with lacerations, that investigation
is ongoing.
The Delaware County Chamber of
Commerce will honor businesses at their 2019 Annual Business Awards ceremony on
Wednesday at 6:00 PM. The Chamber announced
today that the event has been moved to the Meredith Inn at 4206 Turnpike
Road, Delhi, due to the likelihood of
Showers & Thunderstorms. The
Honorees include the Delhi Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, as the 2019
Business of the Year, Stagecoach Run Art Festival, headquartered in Treadwell
and Franklin, and Table to Farm Tours of Roxbury, will receive the 2019 Tourism

seatbelts while travelling inside state parks, This year’s campaign will be
held through August 12th.

today released preliminary local unemployment rates for May. The Statewide Unemployment rate was an even
4% in May, Locally, Chenango County had 3.7% unemployment, Delaware County had
4% & Otsego County had 3.4%.

Delaware River Policies will be held in Hancock on July 10th. Representatives from the Delaware River Basin
Commission, State DEC, The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and the DRBC
Subcommittee on Ecological Flows (SEF) will discuss new approaches to control
high water temperatures and reduce erratic water releases in the Upper Delaware
River tail waters. The meeting on July
10th will begin at 10:30 AM until 12:00 Noon at the Friends of the Upper

Announced their 2019 Don Clayton Memorial Trailside Concert Series will be held
at the Pavillion at Keith Clark Park at 6:30 PM on wednesday nights, starting
July 10th with the Sidney Community Band.

Republican primary Results have been released; Town of
Sidney Clerk Primary was won by Sheila Paul over Lisa French 134 - 112. The
Broome County District Attorney Republican Primary was won by Paul Battisti by
a slim margin over Michael Korchak, in the Republican Primary for Norwich Mayor,
Shawn Sastri handily defeats incumbent
mayor Christine Carnrike & North
Norwich Town Supervisor between Timothy Brown & Robert Wansor ended as a
tie, 51 votes each. The Republican primary for Town of Hancock Highway Superintendent
was won by Neil Emerich, Democratic Party Primaries for the Oneonta Common
Council, were won by Mark Davies in Oneonta’s 2nd ward & Katie Lapari Shue
won in the 4th Ward.
Chenango County Sheriff's Department executed a no knock
search warrant at 121 Ashcraft Road in the Town of Plymouth Tuesday. The search
warrant stemmed from an investigation involving the distribution of Crystal
Methamphetamine, Norwich Police assisted with the investigation and execution
of the search warrant. The Narcotics
Division arrested 47 year old William Johnson and 35 year old Kelli Johnson for
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug
Paraphernalia, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The Sheriff’s Office
recovered Crystal Methamphetamine, packaging material, digital scales, cash,
and several firearms. The investigation remains ongoing.

Chenango County Sheriff's Department executed a no knock
search warrant at 121 Ashcraft Road in the Town of Plymouth Tuesday. The search
warrant stemmed from an investigation involving the distribution of Crystal
Methamphetamine, Norwich Police assisted with the investigation and execution
of the search warrant. The Narcotics
Division arrested 47 year old William Johnson and 35 year old Kelli Johnson for
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug
Paraphernalia, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The Sheriff’s Office
recovered Crystal Methamphetamine, packaging material, digital scales, cash,
and several firearms. The investigation remains ongoing.

Revitalization Initiative, to support 10 additional downtown neighborhoods, 1

old Benjamin Bishop of Otselic for Criminal Contempt, 2nd degree Burglary,
& 2 counts of Criminal Mischief, after Troopers were dispatched to a
domestic dispute on April 12th in the town of Pitcher. Bishop is accused of damaging several
vehicles, and trying to break into a residence, the victim left through a fire
escape. Troopers discovered there was an
active Order of Protection against Bishop on behalf of the victim. Bishop fled before troopers arrived but he
was located on April 15th and arrested, arraigned & was remanded to the
Chenango County jail on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.

old Renee Rountree of Unadilla for Menacing, Criminal Mischief & Falsely
Reporting an Incident. Troopers were
dispatched to a residence on Lockwood Hill Road in Unadilla, when troopers
arrived, they learned that Rountree falsely reported the harassment, menaced a
victim and slashed the victim’s tires.
Rountree was arrested and later released on appearance tickets
returnable to the town of Unadilla court on Monday April 22nd.

Pennsylvania, for failing to move over & crashing into a New York State DOT
vehicle, which led to the death of DOT employee Dennis Howe. Faucett pleaded not guilty to criminally negligent
homicide for the March 13th crash.

All 4 were arraigned in the town of Afton Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $2,500 cash or $7,000 bond, pending court action on August 27th, in the town of Afton Court.

The Chenango County DPW announced that they will close County Route 37 between County Road 36 & Keach Road in the town of Guilford, on Tuesday May 29th. Nick Libous, the son of the late State Senator Tom Libous, announced his candidacy for the 122nd State Assembly Seat today. Libous currently resides in Deposit & is Vice President Wireless Construction Solutions in Binghamton; he is seeking the seat occupied by Republican Incumbent Assemblyman Cliff Crouch, who is seeking re-election for the seat he has held since 1995.
Both major political parties will have their convention Wednesday & Thursday of this week. Democrats are holding theirs on Long Island, as actress Cynthia Nixon tries to push her way past incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is expected to be endorsed at the convention by Hillary Clinton. Republicans are holding their convention in New York City, where Marcus Molinaro appears to be unchallenged in his party for the gubernatorial nomination.
A Chenango County Grand Jury indicted 39 year old Regina Donovan of Norwich for making a terrorist threat. Donovan is accused of making a threat against a Norwich Middle School employee on March 20th in response to the alleged bullying of her daughter at the Middle School.
The City of Oneonta Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee meeting will be held tonight at City Hall. The workshop will be held in the 2nd floor Common Council Chambers to finalize the writing of the vision statement, the meeting begins at 7:00 PM & is open to the public.
The Next Chenango County Free Rabies Clinic will be held this evening for dogs, cats & domesticated ferrets. The clinic will be held at the Columbus Town Garage on State Highway 80 from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.
The Unatego Central School District announced that the will be soliciting proposals for repurposing the former Otego Elementary School. The community-based Repurposing Committee, & the Unatego Board of Education is inviting developers and others who are interested in purchasing the property, a Request for Proposals is available online at unatego.org or at 988-5038. The Property consists of a 47,800 square foot 2-story building and 4.8 acres of land.
State Police conducted a traffic stop on I-88 in the town of Milford for a traffic violation. An investigation by Troopers and CNET resulted in the seizure of approximately 4 pounds of marihuana and approximately $3,500 cash. Troopers arrested Javice Lawrence, Ronnie Smith and Toshaun Guthrie of Albany for Criminal Possession of Marihuana, they were arraigned in the Town of Hartwick Court and remanded to the Otsego County Jail.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies, arrested 46 year old James Henderson of Walton, for Reckless Driving, Failure to keep right, moving unsafely from lane, and parking on pavement. Henderson is alleged to have not stopped his vehicle during Walton Police Department’s attempt to execute a traffic stop, after driving erratically, nearly colliding with 3 vehicles. Henderson was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond,.
State Senator Jim Seward joined officials from the Village of Cooperstown and the Friends of Doubleday Field to announce a $1 million state grant to help fund major renovations and improvements at Doubleday Field. The grant will fund a portion of a $5.8 million renovation project to Reconstruct the third base bleachers; build a multi-purpose building behind the third base bleachers with office space, press box, and public space for event rental; Pedestrian friendly entrance from Main Street, potential relocation of the Sandlot Kid statue closer to the grandstand area; Improvements to the field; & Americans With Disability Act accessibility improvements.

A Chenango County area Drug Take-Back Day has been announced for July 19th starting at 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon at the Afton Free Library at 105 Main Street, Afton. Various organizations are teaming up for the event, where people can dispose of old, expired & unused medications, in order to keep them out of the wrong hands & out of the Waste Stream.
Utica Democratic Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi already announced his intentions to run for the 22nd congressional district in November 2018, at a press conference in Utica this morning. Brindisi seeks to unseat Republican Claudia Tenney, who is only 6 months into her first term in Congress. The 22nd congressional district covers part of Chenango & Broome Counties locally. Brindisi will reschedule a press conference for Binghamton that was postponed today due to the extraordinary session of the Assembly called by Governor Cuomo for today in Albany.
Lawmakers were called back to Albany today for an Extraordinary session to deal with some left over legislation that was not dealt with before the end of the 2017 session last Wednesday. Local Assemblyman Cliff Crouch said that some of the bills really should be dealt with by the local municipalities, and not the state legislature:

Yogurt sales top $8 billion dollars a year currently in the US.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies & local EMT’s responded to a 1 car roll-over accident with entrapment, at approximately 2:00 PM Tuesday on State Highway 28 in the Town of Middletown. 78 year old Doris Hubar of Margaretville was extricated from the overturned vehicle & was transported to Margaretville Memorial Hospital and was transferred to Albany Medical Center for further treatment. Hubar may have experienced a medical emergency while driving, causing her to lose control & flip her vehicle after striking a tree. No tickets have been issued, the investigation is continuing.
The Guernsey Library of Norwich will host a “Movies Under the Stars” event tonight with a showing of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” in conjunction with the Norwich Merchants Association. The movie will start at about 8:30 PM; movie goers are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs & blankets for tonight’s presentation.
The Tri-Town Coalition On Substance Abuse Prevention meeting will be this evening at 6:00 pm in the Sidney Middle School Cafeteria-Gym. The agenda for the meeting will be action planning for the upcoming 2017/2018 coalition year. This meeting will be led by the Prevention Resource Center and the National Guard Counterdrug Task Force.

The hearing will begin at 3:00 PM at the Delaware County Office Building on Main Street in Delhi. Delaware County Chamber staff will present cost-saving initiatives to those who have been tasked with presenting ideas to the Governor's office. Governor Andrew Cuomo has encouraged municipalities to come up with ways to share services to save taxpayer dollars.

Governor Cuomo announced that flags on state government buildings will be flown at half-staff today, in remembrance of the nearly 3,000 men, women and children who lost their lives in the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City.
State Police arrested 62-year-old Jeffrey Kennedy of Eaton, for aggravated DWI with a B.A.C. result of .21% and other traffic violations. The arrest occurred after Kennedy was observed failing to keep right on State Route 12 in the Town of North Norwich. Kennedy was issued tickets returnable to the Town of North Norwich Court on September 23rd

A SUNY Delhi freshman from Wappingers Falls was found dead in a wooded area near the campus Tuesday. The unidentified student was found unresponsive by friends, he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Delaware County Medical Examiner's office. No foul Play is suspected; a memorial service for the student is planned on September 25th in Hopewell Junction.
State Police are investigating a burglary to a home on Grove Street in Windsor, which occurred sometime during the overnight between August 2nd & 3rd. Police said that burglars took a small black Sentry Model safe, which contained a large amount of US currency. Anyone with information about this crime is encouraged to contact SP Binghamton at 607-775-1241.
Thursday's Primary Day elections have been tabulated, In Delaware County; The Democratic Party Town of Middletown Supervisor Primary was won by Marjorie Miller. The Republican Party Primary had Delaware County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jim Eisel winning for the Harpersfield Town Supervisors position. In the Primary for Town of Walton Supervisor, Charles Gregory defeats Bruce Dolph. In Chenango County, District Attorney Joe McBride wins the Republican primary, in the city of Norwich; Christine Carnrike won The Republican Primary for Mayor over incumbent Joe Mauirano.
The Delaware County Industrial Development Agency recently completed a renovation project at the Sidney Industrial Park to ensure the continued growth of Gravity Ciders. The company outgrew their Walton facility; they were looking for a new production and warehousing facility to keep up with the demand of their Awestruck Premium Hard Ciders. In the Primary for Town of Walton Supervisor, Charles Gregory defeats Bruce Dolph. In Chenango County, District Attorney Joe McBride wins the Republican primary, in the city of Norwich; Christine Carnrike won The Republican Primary for Mayor over incumbent Joe Mauirano.
The Delaware County Industrial Development Agency recently completed a renovation project at the Sidney Industrial Park to ensure the continued growth of Gravity Ciders. The company outgrew their Walton facility; they were looking for a new production and warehousing facility to keep up with the demand of their Awestruck Premium Hard Ciders. A 2nd rally against a proposed pipeline and compressor in Franklin is planned for Saturday, at 10:00 AM in front of 483 Van Tassel Road in Franklin. The rally is close to the location of the proposed compressor station.

The Bainbridge Rotary Club is sponsoring the Bill Denman Memorial River Ride tomorrow for interested cyclists. The first loop will begin at 9:00 AM and the 2nd at 11:00 AM both loops begin at General Clinton Park in Bainbridge.
The Delaware county department of corrections will hold the 5th Annual Andrew Brown Memorial Golf Tournament tomorrow, at the Hardwood Hills Golf Course in Masonville. Registration is at 7:30 AM, shotgun start is at 8:30 AM, and money raised will assist Delaware county residents being cared for by Catskill Hospice & Palliative care.
