Oneonta Firefighters responded this morning to a reported structure fire at 525 Main Street at the Oneonta veterinary Hospital. 3 on-duty firefighters arrived within minutes to find fire rapidly extending up the exterior wall of the building. Crews knocked down the fire, checked for extension, and searched the building to ensure the fire had not spread into the structure, off duty Firefighters were called back to assist.

State Police responded to a report of a child in distress at a swimming pool at the Binghamton Country Club on Robinson Hill Road. Upon the Troopers’ arrival, bystanders and lifeguards had already initiated lifesaving measures for an unresponsive 11-year-old boy, Troopers assisted in those efforts until the child was transported by ambulance to Wilson Medical Center and subsequently flown to Upstate University Hospital, where the child passed away. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office following further examination. No foul play is suspected at this time.

The State DOT & State Police closed I-88 between Exits 10 and 12 in both directions until further notice, A large amount of soil has eroded underneath the roadway, this is not due to a culvert collapse, but to an as yet unknown water issue. Crews from the New York State Department of Transportation are on the scene assessing the issue. Motorists are advised to follow the established detour routes on to State Route 7, Detour signage is in place to guide motorists. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available from the DOT. Motorists are urged to allow for extra travel time, and exercise caution while traveling along detour on State Route 7.

The FBI arrested 59 year old Peter Bardunias of Clifton Park, for attempting to entice a minor to engage in prohibited sexual activity. The complaint alleges that over the past 2 weeks, Bardunias, who is a Senior Vice President with the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce, sent messages to an individual he believed to be a 15 year-old girl during which he discussed violent and sadistic sexual activity, however the individual was an undercover law enforcement official. Bardunias traveled to meet the would-be minor and was taken into custody. A federal search warrant executed at Bardunias’ residence found sex toys, restraints and a knife, he was ordered held in by a Federal Court judge Tuesday pending a detention hearing set for this Friday.

24 year old Deanna Eignor of Hobart pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Criminal Possession of a Firearm, back on January 12th, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Buena Vista in Delhi for a suspicious person & drug complaint involving 2 vehicles. Eignor was observed getting out of a vehicle with a backpack that contained a firearm. Co-defendant Kenneth Dillmann, previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 3½ to 7 years in state prison, Eignor is expected to be sentenced to 1 year in jail for this conviction at a later date.
The Unadilla Fire Department was alerted to a possible structure fire in the town of Unadilla on State Route 7 near the State Police Barracks, around 12:00 AM earlier today, Unadilla Firefighters were able to make an aggressive push into the residence and contain the fire to the room of origin. Crews were back and in service by 4:45am, Unadilla was assisted by Sidney Fire Department & EMS, and the Wells Bridge, Franklin, Otego & Sidney Center Fire Departments.

State Police arrested 61 year old Frank Kovacs of Laurens after an Otsego County grand jury indictment. Kovacs has been charged with 2 counts of 1st degree Rape and 3 counts of Criminal Sexual Act. Kovacs is currently serving as the Mayor of the Village of Laurens in Otsego County. An investigation began in December of 2024 when a victim reported that over a decade ago, they had been sexually assaulted by Kovacs for several years, in multiple locations by means of forcible compulsion, intimidation and coercion when the victim was a teenager. Kovacs was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $10,000 cash, $10,000 credit or $100,000 bond.

47 year old Nicholas Cartelli of Otego pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance last week. On January 3rd, Cartelli & a co-defendant possessed 1 or more preparations, compounds, mixtures, or substances containing a narcotic, Cartelli admitted that he possessed Heroin in the Village of Sidney, he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail to await his sentencing, which is set for August 5th, he will be sentenced to 4 years in state prison and 2 years of post-release supervision.

56 year old Ronald Roof of Franklin appeared in the Delaware County Court and was sentenced for Driving While Intoxicated, Roof had previously pleaded guilty to felony DWI, he was sentenced to 5 years of felony probation, and his license was revoked, he must have an Ignition Interlock Device installed on any vehicle he owns or drives if he ever obtains a driver’s license. If he violates his probation, he is subject to being re-sentenced to 1 and 1/3 to 4 years in jail.
The Delaware County Department of Public Works will be closing CR 18 in the Town of Stamford to through traffic at 7:00 am. daily June 17th and 18th , for culvert replacement/repair work. The road will be closed between the Village Line and Red Rock Road, approximately 600 feet north of Pearl Street. The road will be opened by the end of the day each day. The traveling public should use alternate routes.
There will be a Village Election for registered voters in the Village of Oxford today from 12:00 noon to 9:00 PM at the Oxford Fire Station, on Main Street. Offices on the ballot are Mayor & 2 seats for Trustee.

Last year, Troopers arrested 132 people for DWI, issued 124 tickets for distracted driving and 5,576 tickets in total.

NYSEG is reporting that much of the power has been restored in the WCDO Listening area, Franklin still has the largest number of outages, with over 1300 earlier this afternoon, the Franklin school district was forced to cancel classes today due to the power outage.
The State DOT announced that beginning tomorrow, westbound State Route 17 in the Town of Sanford, will be closed for a culvert replacement, the project is expected to take about 2 weeks to complete. Drivers should follow the posted detour utilizing Exit 83, Broome County Route 28 westbound for half a mile, then left back onto State Route 17. Access for over-sized vehicles will be restricted throughout the duration of the closure.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Jeremy Stafford of Walton for 3rd degree burglary & and other related charges, on Sunday, Delaware County Sheriff's office was notified by the Broome County Sheriff's office that they had Stafford in custody on unrelated charges. Stafford was turned over to Delaware County & was being held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending arraignment.

NYSEG reported that about 2400 customers are without power this morning in the Tri-County Region, following last nights' high winds & heavy rains. Crews will be out trying to restore power as soon as possible, the majority of the outages are in Delaware county, with more than 1400 out.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 48 year old Scott Strain of Morris, for Dissemination of Indecent Material to Minors, Promoting a Sexual Performance of a Child and 3rd degree rape, following an investigation into a sex abuse complaint received from the New York State Child Abuse Hotline. Investigation revealed that Strain allegedly entered into a sexual relationship with a minor and did request and receive indecent material from the minor. A Search Warrant was executed Friday & Strain was taken in to custody. Strain was processed at the Sheriff’s Office and lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Arraignment. An order of protection was requested on behalf of the victim. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending.

State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Delaware County Friday. During the initiative 15 business were checked for compliance, and ALL were found to be in compliance. Businesses that complied were in Masonville, Sidney, Delhi, Walton & Franklin. State Police assigned to the New York State Fair Sunday received a call of possible shots fired between the midway and concert at Suburban Park, 3 minutes later they received a secondary call of possible shots fired at the eatery building. Troopers responded to both reports and determined that there was no evidence of shots fired or anyone being injured. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a stabbing that took place at 207 Bornt Hill Rd in the Town of Union. A suspect is in custody and the victim was transported to UHS Wilson Hospital with serious injuries. The Sheriff's Office received assistance was provided from the State Police and the Endicott Police Department, the investigation is continuing.
34 year old Jade Pittsley of Binghamton pleaded guilty Thursday in Federal Court to escaping from federal custody and possessing and intending to distribute methamphetamine. Pittsley was serving a federal term of imprisonment for a drug offense involving methamphetamine in November 2023 and at the time of the crime, she was under the supervision of a halfway house, she failed to return & law enforcement took her into custody, she faces sentencing on December 30th, Pittsley faces a minimum term of 5 years and up to life in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of at least 4 years.

The Norwich Police Department is investigating a motorcycle fatality accident that occurred on Prentice Street in the City of Norwich Wednesday evening. 66 year old Robert Vanvorst ran off the roadway into a wooded area, he succumbed to his injuries on the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and the Norwich Police Department was assisted by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team.

State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested 47 year old David Burns of Trumansburg, for 2nd degree Grand Larceny. State Police learned that a victim had entered into a contract with Burns, who owns Duramax Developers in July 2023 and didn’t complete work he was paid to do. Burns was hired to demolish an existing building and build a modular home in its place but only completed part of the job, even though the victim paid him over $400,000. Burns was processed at and was transported to the Tompkins County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.
State Police arrested 52 year old William Harris of Richmond Virginia, Harris was operating a tractor trailer with an oversized load while impaired by alcohol and in possession of an illegal weapon, he was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon & Driving While Intoxicated in a Commercial Vehicle. Harris was apprehneded after he failed to stop for a mandatory tractor trailer inspection stop on I-81 Harris failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, Police located an assault weapon in his possession, Harris was later transported to the Cortland County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.

Oneonta Police Department responded last night to investigate a reported gunshot wound victim at Fox Hospital's emergency room. Officers learned that a 51-year-old male victim was transported by a 3rd party in a private vehicle, which left the scene prior to the arrival of police. The victim stated that he was on Chestnut Street when he was injured by a bullet. Police searched the location & no evidence was found. Hospital Security Staff were able to provide surveillance video of the vehicle and individual dropping the victim off at the hospital. An Otsego County Deputy located the vehicle on I-88 and initiate a traffic stop. 3 people were in the vehicle, Police discovered that the incident may have occurred on River Street between Mitchell and Wilcox, but no evidence was located, Anyone with any information should contact Oneonta Police at (607) 432-1111, or at local.nixle.com/tip/city-of-oneonta.
The Binghamton Police Department arrested a 17-year-old from Johnson City for leaving the scene of a pedestrian hit-and-run Tuesday afternoon. Binghamton Police responded at Court and Water streets for a report of a person who was crossing the road being struck by a vehicle, the victim was a 45 year old man from Binghamton, He was transported to an area hospital w& was in critical condition. Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 60 year old Eva Witteman of Binghamton pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and was sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision in Delaware County Court. On February 21, 2023, a Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputy, conducted a welfare check of a vehicle which appeared to be broke down on State Highway 17 in Hancock, Witteman had a suspended license, & was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle, & she possessed 12 grams of methamphetamine. Witteman pleaded guilty to the drug charge, she was to 5 years of felony probation supervision. if she violates probation, she could be re-sentenced to 2.5 years in state prison.

3 fire departments responded to a structure fire at 936 Houghtaling Hollow in the town of Meredith Tuesday afternoon. A family of 5 was displaced by the trailer fire. Meridale Firefighters were assisted by the Franklin & Delhi Fire Department, no injuries were reported.
A special election to pick a successor to George Santos, will be held on February 13th, according to the Governor's office. Santos was the 6th person expelled from the US House of Representatives in the country's history Former area Congressman Tom Suozzi may be the Democratic Party choice, he had served that district for 6 years before making a run from Governor. Several Republicans are vying to keep the seat Republican after Santos's ouster, he was expelled last week following a scandal-plagued tenure in Congress and a looming criminal trial.
The State Health Department reported that flu cases rose by over 25% in the last week and hospitalizations have surged by 30%. Most of the cases have been reported in Western New York, especially in Erie, Niagara, and Chautauqua Counties. In the last recorded week, there were more than 4,000 cases reported in New York State, there has also been a surge in the respiratory virus known as RSV.
The West Kortright Center announced today a grant award totaling $30,000 from the New York State Council on the Arts to support the nonprofit arts and culture sector. In addition they received a $10,000 Artist Support Grant for Adrianna Newell. The State Council has awarded over $80 million since Spring 2023 to over 1,500 artists and organizations across the state.

Law hit 13 year old Brennan Loveless with a pickup truck on January 1st 2023 while the boy was riding his bike on the shoulder of Route 7 near his home in Sanitaria Springs. Law fled the scene while Loveless, who was thrown 180 feet down the shoulder, suffering serious injuries. Law then told police he hit a deer with his truck instead. Law pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a firearm and attempted leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident.

State Police & other state agencies responded to a commercial vehicle crash at I-88 in Duanesburg, Tuesday morning. The investigation has determined a tractor-trailer traveling exited the road and traveled down a steep ravine, carrying multiple large cylinders containing compressed natural gas. The driver was removed and transported to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries and is currently listed in critical condition. I-88 was closed between exit 24 and exit 25 for the investigation & clean up, there were no home or business evacuations & there was no fire or explosion as a result of this crash. The name of the driver will not be released at this time. The investigation into the cause of this crash is ongoing.

Congressman Marc Molinaro is pushing the U.S. Department of Agriculture to address the milk carton shortage in Upstate New York. On August 25, 2022, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a cyber tip that an individual account had downloaded a sexually explicit image of a child in Franklin, records were seized from the Microsoft Corporation and on September 29, 2023, Lane was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Minor. Lane will be sentenced to a ten-year period of felony probation supervision and will be required to register as a sex offender.

48 year old John Jaromack formerly of Franklin, in Delaware County Court Friday for 2 counts of Criminal Sexual Act. Jaromack engaged in 2 or more sexual acts with a child less than 11 years old, in the town of Franklin & at least one act with a child less than 13 years old, in the town of Franklin. The sentences will run consecutively so that Jaromack will be sentenced to a total of 10 years in state prison and 10 years of post-release supervision, he will also have to register as a sex offender after he is released from state prison.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 42 year old Leslie McClennon of Walton for Obstructing Governmental Administration. On August 16th, Deputies assisted State Police and the Walton Police Department in locating a male who had numerous Arrest Warrants issued for his arrest by multiple agencies. McClennon is accused of misleading Deputies & purposely interfering and obstructing their investigation, she is also accused of assisting the wanted male in fleeing law enforcement. McClennon was released on an appearance ticket for the Town of Walton court at a later date.

Delaware County 911 received call Sunday from the operator of tractor trailer stating that he had traveled off the roadway and had rolled over on State Highway 23 in the Town of Kortright. Delaware County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the scene along with members of the Davenport Fire Department, Stamford Fire Department, Bovina Fire Department, Headwaters EMS and NYS DEC Spill Response team. 61 year old Michael Rowe of Sidney was taken to Fox Hospital for minor injuries and was released. The investigation into the crash is continuing and tickets are pending.

Lisa Barnes of Johnson City was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Deadly Crash after the crash on August 11th in Clinton Township, Franklin Pauler was unresponsive and suffering from a severe bleeding injury to his head, Barnes turned herself in the following day, claiming that she was lost & her GPS was not working, Pauler had died from his injuries at an area hospital the day after the accident.

The pilot was 72 year old Ron Galuppo of Texas, the passenger was his son, 22 year old Nathan Galuppo, of Texas. Delaware County 911 was alerted by Air Traffic Control in Boston Massachusetts about a mayday transmission from a plane experiencing engine failure, they also received a call about a small plane crashing near a residence in Franklin. Both men crashed while attempting to fly home to Texas from Maine, they were taken to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton after they were able to escape the wreckage of their plane, they suffered only minor injuries, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Federal Aviation Administration with the investigation.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, the Otsego County Sheriff's Office & The Oneonta Police Department announced the arrests of 3 people of Phinaliz Communications LLC, who are accused of operating a long-running scheme to steal over $1 million from the Medicaid program. The 3 defendants were identified as 46 year old Philip Mtui of Mechanicsville, who owns the company, operations manager Mbaga Kaiza, and Dispatcher & Driver Tony Taylor, who were arrested last Thursday. Over a 4-year period, Mtui and Kaiza defrauded the Medicaid program by claiming payment for rides that never occurred, and double, triple, or quadruple billing for rides that did occur. Mtui and Kaiza were arraigned in Oneonta City Court for 1st degree Grand Larceny, both were held on $250,000 bail. Taylor was arrested on 1 count of conspiracy, he will be arraigned on September 19th, more arrests are expected.

Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a check the welfare on Interstate 88 in the Town of Sidney, for a man climbing on the bridge. Deputies subsequently located 43 year old Arthur Cotton of Sidney, who was wanted on an active arrest warrant out of Chenango County, for Sexual Misconduct. Cotton was arrested and turned over to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.

4 arrests were made during an Underage Drinking Initiative in Troop “C” in Delaware County Tuesday. During the initiative, 26 businesses were checked, the 4 who were not in compliance were Carroll and Carver Wine & Spirits, Sidney, Breakey’s Liquor Store in Walton, Mirabito Quickway in Franklin & The Country Store in Roxbury. The clerk at each of the business that sold alcohol was issued an appearance ticket for the Alcohol Beverage Control Law violation of Unlawful Sale of Alcohol to a Minor.

Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced that $6.3 million in federal funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Lead-Based Paint Hazard Reduction Program will be used for remediation of lead-based paint hazards in at least 180 qualifying privately-owned pre-1978 homes across Broome County. Estimates suggest that over 13,000 homes in Broome County built decades ago may still contain lead paint.

58 year old Phillip Peterson was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury on 2 counts of attempted assault, for allegedly attacking his wife in the town of Franklin by punching her in the chest after open heart surgery & by throwing a TV at her in April. Peterson will be arraigned on the charges on July 10th.
31-year-old Dylan Cole of Norwich was charged with 1st-degree assault after allegedly beating another man with a baseball bat, causing severe injuries. Norwich Police responded to Clinton Street, Cole allegedly approached a 35-year-old male with a BB gun and metal baseball bat and struck the man’s face multiple times with the bat, the victims suffered multiple fractures & lost teeth, he was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital & was later transported him to SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse to receive multiple surgeries. Pope was charged with 3 counts of Aggravated DWI for allegedly having a Child Less Than 16 Years Old in the vehicle, plus DWI, Operating a Vehicle with a BAC of .08% or higher, 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child & Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent The 3 children in pope's vehicle sustained minor injuries in the accident and were treated and released at the scene by EMS, Pope was released on an Appearance ticket and for Town of Morris Court at a later date.

Police in Deposit arrested 73 year old Jo Stanton and her son, 49 year old Patrick Stanton after they conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle with incorrect license plates. Police seized brass knuckles, heroin, methamphetamine, hydrocodone, and suboxone. The Stantons were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, Patrick Stanton was additionally charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, more charges are anticipated, The investigation is ongoing.
27 year old Chad Underwood of Sherburne was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff's Office for Menacing, Aggravated Harassment and Making Terroristic Threats. The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 34 year old Bayso Vannavongso pleaded guilty to 3 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, he admitted that on July 26, 2022, he illegally possessed a loaded .38 revolver, a 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun and a semi-automatic rifle, in the Town of Binghamton. Police responded to the Vestal Hills Country Club in the Town of Binghamton to a report of a man shot with a crossbow. Vannavongsa was shot by Carson Vanco after a dispute, where Vannavongsa fired shots at Vanco from the revolver but missed, he recovered from being shot with the arrow.

37 year old Ronald Bodden of Binghamton was sentenced to 2 to 4 years in State prison for smuggling methamphetamines into the Broome County Jail. Bodden possessed a quantity of methamphetamine while being booked into the jail on an unrelated charge, he pleaded guilty to Promoting Prison Contraband according to Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak.

35-year-old Bruice Jeffrey of North Norwich was arrested by Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies Sunday after allegedly stealing more than $130,000 from an elderly person. The arrest followed an investigation into Jeffrey started by a claim from the Chenango County Social Services Department, he is accused of stealing from an elderly person's account for 7 years. Jeffrey was charged with 3 counts of grand larceny and petty larceny, he was released with an appearance ticket and is due back in court at a later date.

Randolph was caught with large quantities of methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl when police raided his motel room in Endicott in August of 2021, he was on parole from a previous conviction for selling methamphetamine. Randolph was sentenced to 5 years in state prison followed by 2 years of post-release supervision.

59-year-old Norman O’Neil of Endwell died Friday after he fell through the ice when he and 1 other man were ice fishing in Tioga County. Tioga County Sheriff's Office and area EMT's & Firefighters responded, The sheriff’s office reported that the other man fell through the ice but pulled himself out but was unable to save O'Neill, First responders pulled O’Neil out, he was not responsive attempts to resuscitate O’Neil, he died from the injuries he sustained. The unidentified companion was taken to an area hospital & was treated and released.

Unadilla Fire Department responded Monday Night at about 10:45 PM to a reported structure fire in the area of Buckhorn Lake Road and State Highway 7. Responding Firefighters discovered a working fire on the 2nd floor rear of the residence. Unadilla crews along with Wells Bridge crews were able to gain entry and knock the fire down. No injuries were reported, other Fire Departments assisting included Franklin, Sidney Sidney Center & Otego, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

State Police arrested 24 year old Robert Henness of Otego Monday for Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. An investigation revealed that on multiple occasions, Henness inappropriately touched a child who is less than 13-years-old. Henness was processed at SP Oneonta and then transported to the Otsego County Jail for Centralized Arraignment and Processing. He was remanded to the Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
The State Health Department reports a steady increase has been continuing in COVID 19 cases, along with many cases of various flu strains. From the period of Saturday through Monday, there were over 48,000 New Yorkers tested for COVID with 4438 positive tests, for an 8% positivety rate. Patient Hospitalization have increased to just under 3800, there were 363 ICU Patients & 153 on Ventilators, there were 94 deaths reported in Hospitals & Nursing homes. Governor Kathy Hochul joined Acting Superintendent Steven Nigrelli in honoring 218 new New York State Troopers as they graduated today from the 211th session of the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy. The ceremony was held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. Today's graduation increases the State Police ranks to 4,742 sworn members. 29 of the new Troopers will report to Troop C in Sidney.
Delaware County Deputies were dispatched On April 29th to a report of a burglary at Herman’s Trailer Sales in the Town of Walton, followed by additional reports of larceny and burglary from the same location, The Investigation revealed that rare antiques and jewelry stolen from the Herman's property were sold for cash at a pawn Shop in Utica. The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 48 year old Wayne Brostek of Schenevus following a traffic stop in the Town of Milford on October 5th. Brostek was charged with Operate out of interlock restriction, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Operating Without Insurance among several other similar charges, Brostek was issued uniform traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Milford Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 23 year old Anna Genao of Franklin for Aggravated Unlicensed Operator charges as well as other violations following an investigation of a motor vehicle accident involving property damage and personal injury in Davenport on October 13th. Genao & other occupants were transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, after an investigation, Deputies arrested Genao, she was processed and released, & will appear in Town of Davenport Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 59 year old David Spry of South Kortright for DWI & moving from a lane unsafely, after an investigation of a 1 car motor vehicle accident in the Town of Stamford October 1st. Deputies observed a vehicle that appeared to have gone off of the roadway and sustained damage, they made contact with Spry, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Spry was transported to O’Connor Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the motor vehicle accident, he was released on appearance tickets and will appear at the Town of Stamford Court at a later date.

State Police & Emergency Personnel responded to the report of an Amazon Delivery Truck on fire outside of Cooperstown yesterday. The driver was not injured, the incident occurred on Bedbug Hill Road in the town of Otsego, the cause of the truck fire is under investigation.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Kaitlyn Franklin of Sherburne for Harassment and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Franklin is accused of subjecting a female under the age of 17 years old to unwanted physical contact, she was arrested without incident, processed, and released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Village of Sherburne Court at a later date.

The Broome County’s District Attorney’s Office announced that 23 year old Muhammad Aziz of Johnson City pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a weapon, State Police executed a search warrant at the Aziz residence on June 15th in Johnson City, police confiscated cocaine, methamphetamine and an illegal firearm. Aziz will be sentenced on December 12th.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle fail to dim its headlights when approaching oncoming traffic Saturday Night. Deputies stopped 20-year-old Louis Manzanares of Uniondale, , whose driver’s license was suspended. Deputies arrested Manzanares for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Dim Lights and Uninspected Motor Vehicle, he was released and is scheduled to appear before the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Village of Sidney Police Department responded Thursday night at about 9:50 PM, to a security alarm activation at Smoker's Choice at 6 Doran Lane, where a burglary was in progress, a suspect has been identified and an arrest is pending. While at Smoker's Choice, officers received a report of shots fired and a person with a firearm on Union Street at the Maria's convenience store, Police found no evidence of a discharged firearm, a store employee was checking the business for a break in & legally possessed a firearm, police discovered that a burglary was attempted at Maria's prior to the Smoker's Choice burglary. The investigation is ongoing.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli reported that the total cost of overtime in 2021 reached an all-time high at more than $924 million, up 8.7% from 2020. Total overtime hours worked at state agencies have increased by 38% since 2012, while the number of employees has declined by more than 10% at 10 major agencies. 66% of the state’s overtime in 2021 came from the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities & the Department of Corrections and the Office of Mental Health.
The State Health Department reported the latest statistics on the COVID 19 pandemic, and the results of Wednesday's testing statewide. Over 97,000 New Yorkers were tested Wednesday, with over 9200 positives, the statewide positivity rate is still slightly over 9%. Hospitalizations are back over 2400, with 233 Patients in an ICU bed & 70 on ventilators., there were 14 more deaths in hospitals & nursing homes Wednesday.
New Yorkers enrolled in SNAP will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for July, including those already at the maximum level of benefits. Eligible families will see the extra benefits post between today and Friday, July 22.
Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchack announced that 38 year old Shandel Terry of Binghamton was sentenced to 10 years in prison today in Broome County Court, following a guilty plea for criminal possession of a controlled substance. Terry was arrested following the execution of a search warrant in March of 2021, Terry possessed crack cocaine & fentanyl with intent to sell. Terry was also sentenced to serve 3 years of post release supervision at the conclusion of his jail term.

In the last two days Delaware County has had a surge of positive covid-19 cases with 98 new positive cases on Tuesday & 121 Positives on Wednesday, there was 1 more COVID 19 death attributed to the virus. Firefighters from Oneonta, Franklin & other surrounding communities responded this afternoon to a fire at the Motel 88 at 340 Chestnut Street in Oneonta. The fire was under control in a little more than an hour, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

State Police took 29 year old Anthony Masi into custody Wednesday afternoon on an arrest warrant for 1st Degree Assault. The warrant stems from a serious assault that occurred in Oneonta after Masi allegedly attacked a victim with a machete-type knife at the Budget Inn on State Route 23 on December 30th, the investigation is continuing.

Mole stated that Delaware County does not have the internal framework to enforce this mandate, but businesses have oversight from other state agencies, such as Agriculture and Markets or other professional licensing boards, which may enforce the Mask newest mandate. County residents are asked to follow the mandate in business following the mandate lease, pleases wear masks in public spaces, get vaccinated and continue to be diligent with social distancing and hand washing practices. Chenango County Health Department continues to schedule vaccine clinics around the county. a 1st dose Pfizer Vaccine clinic for ages 5 and older will be held at the Greenlawn Elementary School in Bainbridge today from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Town of Hamden last Tuesday for an equipment violation. 53 year-old Lisamichelle LaLonde, of Morris, was operating a motor vehicle with a suspended New York driver’s license, due to a previous insurance lapse. LaLonde was later issued traffic tickets for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, Unlicensed Operator, and Insufficient Brake Lamps. LaLonde is scheduled to appear before the Town of Hamden Court at a later date to answer the charges.

As a result of low blood donor turnout in recent months, the Red Cross is heading into the holidays with its lowest blood supply in more than a decade at this time of year. Blood donations are desperately needed now to meet the needs of accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease. A blood drive is being held in Franklin today, from 12:30 to 5:30 PM, at the Franklin Fire Department, 351 Main Street, and appointments can be made with the Red Cross Blood donor App, redcrossblood.org or by calling 1-800-Red Cross.
Delaware County Public Health reported another COVID 19 Death, bringing their number up to 81. The report covers Saturday through Monday, with 64 new cases, 321 active cases, 12 hospitalized & 379 in Quarantine, the positivity rate was at 9.5%. 54.1% of Delaware County residents are vaccinated.
