Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Kayla Van Pelt of Otsego County, for Grand Larceny and Conspiracy. A larceny complaint was filed by a business in the Village of Sherburne, where Van Pelt and two other suspects acted together and stole over one thousand dollars in merchandise. Van Pelt was taken into custody at a residence in Otsego County, transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office to be processed, she was released on an appearance ticket for Village of Sherburne Court at a later date. More arrests are expected to be made.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office Office arrested 51 year old Byron Bump of the Town of Colesville, for 1st & 2nd degree Rape, & Attempted Rape, Bump was relieved from his job as a school bus driver for the Chenango Valley School District, he is accused of sexually abusing multiple minors over a lengthy period of time, Anyone with information should contact the Broome County Sheriff’s Office by calling 607-778-1196.


Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 35 year old Jacob Snook of Gilbertsville on multiple charges following the execution of a search warrant following a residential fire in the Town of Butternuts. Snook was charged with Criminal Manufacture of Undetectable Firearm, Criminal Possession of Ammunition Feeding Device, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Ghost Gun, among other similar charges, Deputies and investigators executed the search warrant at the residence and discovered that Snook had two 3D printers to manufacture untraceable firearms, plus loaded high-capacity magazines and a large quantity of ammunition, he was taken into custody and was being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment.

The State Department of Health continues to encourage New Yorkers over the age of 6 months to receive the new COVID-19 vaccine as respiratory illness season begins. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that adults ages 65 and older and those who are moderately or severely immunocompromised should receive a second dose of the 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine six months after their first dose. In response to the local State of Emergency Declaration issued by the County of Otsego on October 28, 2024, the County has chosen to extend the local Emergency Orders for an additional 5 day period, beginning today until November 12, at 12:00 PM. 37 year old Antwain Greene of Binghamton, was sentenced to 18 years to life for Criminal Possession of a Weapon Friday, in Broome County Court. In September of 2021, Greene was discovered to have a loaded and operable handgun, The Broome County Special Investigations Unit also discovered cocaine, ecstasy, and drug paraphernalia after a executing a search warrant at Greene’s residence in Binghamton.

The State DEC declared a drought watch for 15 New York counties because of a significant shortage of rainfall and declining levels of stream-flow and ground water. The counties under drought watch locally are Delaware & Schoharie Counties, No mandatory restrictions are in place under a state Drought Watch but residents in affected area are advised to conserve water wherever possible.


The State Police at Troop C in Sidney are investigating reports of tampered Halloween candy containing razor blades. The affected candy was reportedly collected in the village of Bainbridge on Halloween night. Parents are urged to Double-check Halloween candy collected by children, Inspect wrappers and contents carefully, if you suspect tampered candy Contact the New York State Police at Sidney immediately & Do not allow children to consume potentially contaminated candy. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Timothy Melius of Pittsfield following a visit by the Otsego County Probation Department. Melius was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon & 3 counts of Criminal Contempt for possessing of firearms & ammunition despite having multiple court orders prohibiting him from possessing them. Melius was taken in to custody and transported to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office for processing, he was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Pittsfield Court for the above charges. The defendant was then transported to the Otsego County Probation Department where he was processed on a probation violation and arraigned in the presence of an Otsego County Court magistrate. Following arraignment, the defendant was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await further court proceedings.

The State Department of Health today announced that as the transmission of seasonal respiratory illnesses is underway, the State’s weekly flu reports and Flu Tracker website have been activated. 19 year old Benjamin Wheeler of Norwich pleaded guilty in federal court to possession of an unregistered short-barreled rifle, Wheeler admitted that on August 6, 2024, he knowingly possessed a “Spikes Tactical” AR-15 style rifle at his apartment in Norwich, New York, The firearm was not registered to Wheeler, Sentencing for his conviction for possession of an unregistered short-barreled rifle is scheduled for February 12, 2025, in Utica, he faces a maximum sentence of up to 10-years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000.00, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years.


Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Whitney Bachanas of Milford on 3 counts of Aggravated Animal Cruelty, following a recent animal abuse investigation. Bachanas was charged following an investigation in collaboration with Susquehanna SPCA, Cornell University Veterinary Hospital and Upstate Veterinary Specialties, she was originally charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty in September, and has been additionally charged with 3 counts of Aggravated Animal Cruelty, she was issued an appearance ticket for town of Milford Court.

State Police held a graduation ceremony today for the Canine Handler Basic School. The ceremony was held at the State Police Academy in Albany. A total of 12 canine teams graduated, The canines and their handlers underwent 20 weeks of training at the New York State Police Canine Training Facility located in Cooperstown, In Troop C, Trooper Shane Jones, Canine Hedges were part of the Graduating class, Canine Hedges is named after Trooper Richard L. Hedges, who was killed in a traffic accident while on duty in 1942.

On September 26, 2024, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant in the Town of Union. 43 year old Steven Whritenour of Endicott, was present during the execution of the warrant. During the search, Officers seized Methamphetamine, Fentanyl, 219 pills of s Controlled Substances, plus a Scale, packaging and cutting agent used to distribute narcotics & $170 of cash, Whritenour was charged with multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 5 Counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, he was transported to Central Arraignment and was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Norwich Police Department concluded a five-month long investigation into the sexual desecration of a deceased woman in the City of Norwich. 45 Year Old Mark Randall of Norwich was charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence & Sexual Misconduct, On May 1st, 2024, the Norwich Police Department responded to 12 Columbia Street for the unattended death of a 71-year-old female, Norwich Police Detectives, along with the State Police Forensic Investigation Unit collected evidence from the residence, they accuse Randall of performing sexual acts on the deceased woman multiple times, over a period of several hours. Randall is a Level 3 Sex Offender, he was arraigned at Norwich City Court and held on $25,000 bail to reappear at a later date.


Oneonta Firefighters responded to the report of an apartment fire in the Oneonta Theatre building on Chestnut street this afternoon. Smoke appeared from the front windows of a 2nd floor apartment, Chestnut Street was closed from Main Street to Academy Street for fire fighting equipment, WCDO will have more detail as as they become available.


Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Daniel Dungey of Oxford for 2 counts of Menacing, 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and 1 count of Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation. Deputies and State Troopers responded to a domestic dispute in the Town of Plymouth, where a firearm was displayed. Law enforcement arrived and secured the scene. It was determined that during the physical altercation, Dungey displayed a loaded handgun and threatened the victims, in the presence of several children. Deputies and Troopers located multiple firearms inside Dungey’s vehicle on scene, he was arraigned & was released on his own recognizance & will appear in the Town of Plymouth Court at a later date.

The State Department of Labor announced that Unemployment increased .1% in August from July to 4.4% , Locally Chenango County had 3.5% unemployment, Delaware County 4.2% and Otsego County 4.1% in August.


Edmeston Central School District went into lock-down today following a situation that district Officials Stated posed a potential threat to students if they were outside the school building today. Law Enforcement was notified & no one was allowed to enter or leave the school building. Law enforcement investigated & claimed that situation was safe & the lock-down was lifted.


State Police are looking to identify 2 people that are linked to several “smash and grabs” thefts. The suspects have smashed windows and taken valuable items from vehicles in broad daylight at Otsiningo Park, & other Southern Tier Locations, they were spotted in a white BMW, the license plate on that vehicle was found to be stolen from Connecticut. Anyone with information is asked to contact State Police at Troop C at (607)561-7400. State Police also remind residents to never leaving valuables in plain view in a vehicle even if the vehicle is locked.


Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the Town of Walton that resulted in 2 arrests. The driver of the vehicle was 37 year old Aaron Howard of Walton, who's driving privileges had been revoked, he was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle among other lesser charges. Deputies also arrested the passenger, 36 year old Courtney Condon of Walton, on 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a control substance, both were released on appearance tickets for Town of Walton court at a later date to answer the charges.


45 year old Kareem Young of Binghamton, was sentenced to 11 years in State Prison followed by 3 years post-release supervision after being found guilty as a second felony offender of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 2 counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, by a jury in Broome County Court In January, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit executed a narcotics search warrant At Young's residence in Binghamton, he was in possession of cocaine and implements of narcotics trafficking.

38 year old Nikita Kingsbury of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Monday and was sentenced to a 2-year period of incarceration to be followed by two years of post-release supervision. Kingsbury previously pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Sell, On July 13, 2023, Kingsbury was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury on allegations that she sold methamphetamine in the Village of Sidney on August 11, 2022. Shortly afterwards, she was arrested and then released on her own recognizance while the case was pending. Separately, a felony complaint was filed against Ms. Kingsbury alleging the sale of illegal narcotics in the Town of Davenport on May 21, 2024.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Thomas Toomer of Oxford for multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 1 count of Aggravated Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 1 count of Criminal Contempt. Members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office responded to Toomer’s residence to serve an eviction notice, Toomer and an additional occupant of the residence were removed, the other occupant had an order of protection against Toomer. Toomer was then taken into custody without incident. Several firearms, ammunition, and high-capacity magazines were located in the residence. Toomer had 3 previous Felony convictions & was not allowed to have firearms, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail pending additional court action in Chenango County Court.


WCDO Sports Director Nate Lull has a fall golf tournament coming up this weekend at the Colonial Ridge Golf Course in Morris to support The Nate Lull Scholarship, Lull said he wasn’t planning on another Tournament, but the chance to add to the scholarship fund made was a no brainer:

On September 18th, 2024 the Sidney Police Department began an investigation into a social media post that made a threat to several specific students of the Sidney School District. The same threat was also directed to several specific students of the Walton School District. Sidney Police Department has charged a 14 year old female with one count of Making a terroristic threat and four counts of Aggravated harassment, Due to the subject's age she was issued a juvenile appearance ticket to appear at the Delaware County Probation Department and released.


State Police is warning the public of a nationwide automated sextortion scam in which scammers use people’s email address to coerce payments using intimidation. Scammers obtain emails and other personal information purchased illegally on the dark web to contact victims, & claim to possess images of the victim viewing pornographic material and threatens to disclose this content to everyone in their contact list unless they pay in Bitcoin, however, the scammer does not have access to the victim’s device or personal information. If you receive one of these emails, do not engage or share any personal information, Victims should block the sender, delete the email, and report it through the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov or call the FBI at 1‐800‐CALL‐FBI. State Police or local law enforcement agencies can also assist with criminal investigations.

State Police were dispatched last Wednesday to an accident involving a UTV in the town of Smithville. An investigation revealed that a UTV was on Waldon Road in the town of Smithville when the operator; 52 year old William Williams of Greene lost control, left the roadway, struck a tree and the UTV came to rest on its side. Williams did not survive, the unidentified 24-year-old passenger was transported to Wilson Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is on-going.


Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 21 year old Nicholas Harrington on 4 active warrants and an additional open case. On May 29, Harrington was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Detectives Division, there were warrants for Forgery, for being the operator of a vehicle in an accident, for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property & Grand Larceny, and for a stolen vehicle, he was taken into custody in the Town of Pitcher, he was arraigned & was released on his own recognizance pending future court action.


The Chenango County Health Department announced that raccoon located on County Route 10 in the Hamlet of Preston was tested on May 30, 2024, by the NYS Wadsworth Laboratory and was found to have rabies. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 62 year old Michael Kirby of Delhi, after a warrant was issued for his arrest by the Town of Walton Court, and the Town of Deposit Court. Deputies responded to reports of Domestic Disputes 3 times in May where Kirby violated an order of protection & had subjected the victim to physical contact. Kirby was charged with Aggravated Harassment, Criminal Contempt, Reckless endangerment & on the arrest warrants, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail or $50,000 secured bond.


A nurse who recently began working at the Broome County Correctional Facility has been charged after an investigation found she had stolen 8 pain pills earlier this week. 31 year old Meghan Manning of Troy, PA reported to her superiors that 8 pills with Codeine had gone missing from the Correctional Facility Pharmacy Room. Manning was charged with Falsifying business Records, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Petty Larceny, Manning was processed and given an appearance ticket to appear at the Town of Dickinson court, her employment with PrimeCare Medical has been terminated.
