Governor Cuomo held a COVID briefing this morning, as phase 1 of COVID Vaccines are being administered around the state for health care workers, the Governor discussed the prioritizing of the vaccine distribution earlier today:

Over the weekend, 38,000 vaccines were administered, there were 350 Bassett Hospital employees received the COVID vaccines, more information about the vaccine program is available at ny.gov/vaccine.


Governor Cuomo announced that over 156,000 New Yorkers were tested for COVID Sunday with over8900 testing positive, or about 5.7%. Hospitalizations went up over 6300, ICU Patients were just under 1100 & 613 were on ventilators, 109 passed away due to the virus Sunday.


Chenango County Public Health announced that they have 104 active cases of COVID-19 in Chenango County, with 11 hospitalized. Chenango County also confirmed there are 429 residents under quarantine, and 972 total cases, with 831 recoveries & 16 deaths.


Delaware County Public Health reported 7 new cases of COVID Sunday; they have 100 active cases with 4 hospitalized & 300 quarantined. Delaware County has had 596 positive cases, with 486 recoveries & 10 deaths.


Otsego County Department of Health reported 35 new COVID cases Friday with 16 hospitalized & 142 Active cases. Otsego County has had 1692 total confirmed cases, with 10 deaths.


The Greene Central School District announced that their Primary and Intermediate schools had to go to remote learning today, due to a water main break. Students from Pre-K to 5th grade students were affected. Also, Due to the poor road conditions, all students in the Harpursville Schools will be fully remote Tuesday & Wednesday.


There were many who did not or could not pick up their gifts at the "Operation Merry Christmas" Giveaway day over the weekend at the AO Fox Hospital Tri Town Hospital in Sidney. Those who could not make it to an extended giveaway earlier today are asked to call Dorene Ireland at 643-6334 to make arrangements for pick up prior to Christmas day.


The Festival of Lights opened up in Neahwa Park in Oneonta this past weekend. Visitors can drive through the park to see the colorful displays created by Oneonta area businesses & Organizations; the display is sponsored by First Night Oneonta & is open daily at Sundown.


The Oxford Lions Club & St. Paul’s Church in Oxford are teaming up to offer their annual "Free Will" Christmas Dinner this afternoon at 4:30at the St. Paul's Parish Hall on Main Street, the Free Christmas Dinner normally serves 200 people.

Governor Cuomo announced Saturday's COVID 19 statistics, there were over 191,000 tests conducted, with 9919 positive tests, there were 6,208 Patient Hospitalizations Statewide; 1,088 Patients in the ICU; 610 on Ventilators, there were 127 COVID-19 Deaths in Saturday, the total number of Deaths is 28,474.


Delaware County Public Health reported 23 new cases of COVID 19 Friday & 13 new cases Saturday, with 103 active cases, 3 are hospitalized and 316 are quarantined. Delaware County has had 589 total cases with 476 recoveries and 10 deaths.


Delaware County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a Deputy for Driving While Intoxicated and Official Misconduct. 25 year old Anthony Shields of Colchester was arrested on December 17th by Sheriff’s Deputies for reporting to work in an alleged intoxicated condition. Shields recently graduated the Police Academy in November and was previously employed at the Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer since 2017. Shields was processed and released on appearance tickets reportable to the Delhi Town Court on January 26th & has been terminated from his position.


A Village of Bainbridge resident was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff's Office for 1 count of criminal possession of a controlled substance and 2 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Lance Madsen of Bainbridge was arrested after a traffic stop in the Village of Bainbridge; he is accused of possessing Methamphetamine with intent to sell, as well as 2 other controlled substances which were not prescribed to him. Madsen was released on an appearance ticket for Town of Bainbridge Court on a later date.


Delaware County Sheriff's office reported that a disabled vehicle blocking the I-88 exit ramp in the Town of Sidney Wednesday evening resulted in a Norwich man being ticketed. 23-year-old Richard Finnegan is accused of operating the vehicle while his driving privileges were suspended for failure to answer a summons in the Town of Norwich Court. Finnegan was ticketed for aggravated unlicensed operation and for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and will appear in the Town of Sidney Court on a later date.


Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 51 year old Joseph Bulwin following an investigation into a domestic dispute. Bulwin is accused of subjecting a victim to unwanted contact and threatened another victim under the age of 17; he was taken into custody with incident, arraigned and released to appear in the Town of New Berlin Court at a later date.


Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Robert Mohammed of Plymouth for DWI and false personation, following a traffic stop on State Highway 12 in the Town of Oxford. Mohammed is accused of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol & providing a false identity to the investigating Deputy. Mohammed was released on an appearance tickets and is to return to the Town of Oxford Court on a later date.

Governor Cuomo held a COVID 19 briefing earlier today, he said that he does not foresee shutdowns again in the state, but he said that people have to celebrate smart over the holidays so that the Hospitalizations do NOT spiral up again like they have since the Thanksgiving holidays & subsequent "Living Room" spread of the virus:

The state tested a record 249,000 people for COVID 19 on Thursday, with 12,694 positive tests or 5.09% of all tested.  Hospitalizations went down Thursday for the 1st time in a few weeks, to 6,081, the number of patients in an ICU bed was at 1,068, the number of patients on Ventilators was 592, there 120 deaths from COVID Thursday.


Chenango County Public Health reported another 11 Positive COVID 19 cases Friday. They have 126 active cases, 498 quarantined & 8 hospitalized.  Chenango County has had 928 cases of the virus, with 770 recoveries & 16 deaths.


NY State of Health announced New Yorkers applying for Qualified Health Plan coverage have until December 31 to sign up for health the coverage starting January 1st, 2021. Governor Cuomo today announced that state and local law enforcement agencies throughout New York will be stepping up patrols to crack down on impaired driving during the holiday travel season. The enforcement campaign will run through Friday, January 1. This crackdown is part of the national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" initiative designed to reduce alcohol and drug-related traffic crashes. It is sponsored by STOP-DWI with funding from the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee.

Following the Winter Storm, Governor Cuomo Declared a STATE OF EMERGENCY in 18 Counties.  The Disaster Emergency was declared in Broome, Chenango, Delaware, & Otsego Counties locally, there were over 600 accidents on the roads statewide Thursday, with 2 fatalities.


Delaware County Public Health had 13 more COVID 19 positive cases Thursday, 79 cases are active & there are 3 people hospitalized & 318 in quarantine.  Delaware County has had 553 total cases with 464 recoveries & 10 deaths.


Otsego County Department of Health reported 14 new COVID cases reported Thursday, there are 16 hospitalized, 135 active cases & 1657 total cases & there have been 10 deaths & 840 cases associated with the 2 Oneonta colleges.

The Sidney Central School District has been notified by the Delaware County Public Health of 4 positive COVID-19 cases in the elementary school in grades K, 2, 3 and 5, Contact tracing has begun and the health department or school district officials will be in contact with any student and staff member impacted by the exposure.  The Sidney elementary school grades K-6 will transition to full remote learning for next Monday & Tuesday due to continued contact tracing efforts. Teachers will be in contact to communicate instructional schedules, there will be no change to the 7-12 instructional schedules.

Governor Cuomo announced that COVID vaccinations began today, with thousands expected to be vaccinated.  The Governor commented about who gets the first & 2nd groupings of vaccines at his briefing today in Albany:

The Governor said that 90 sites to deep freeze the vaccines have been set up around the state, over 516,000 doses are expected to arrive this month, Research indicates that 75% to 85% of the population need to get vaccinated in order the spread of the virus to slow down & eventually stop, however, 49% of those polled said that they don’t want to get this vaccine.


New York State tested 159,844 people Sunday across the state for COVID, 5.66% tested positive, or 9044 people.  Hospitalizations are now up to 5,712. The number of people in ICU beds is up to 1040, the number on Ventilators is 572 & there were 83 COVID related deaths Sunday.


Chenango County Public Health reported 87 more positive cases of COVID 19 since Friday.  They have 134 Active Cases, 573 Quarantines, 8 people are hospitalized, and they have had a total of 868 Confirmed Cases.  Chenango County has had 699 recoveries, 14 deaths and over 50,000 tests have been conducted.


The Broome County Health Department reported 180 more positive COVID 19 tests since Friday, and they also report 3 more deaths.  They report 6317 total cases, 154 deaths, there have been 5545 recoveries & over 4600 are being monitored by the Health Department.


The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce announced that there will be no General Membership Meeting Tuesday, due to an uptick in local COVID 19 Cases.  Chamber officials said that 1 agenda item that needs to be finalized prior to the end of the year is the vote for an open Board of Director Seat. There are 3 openings due to Director Terms expiring, 2 Directors Barb Mulkins & Matt Germond are willing to continue, there is 1 nomination for the open seat, and that is Roger Barnhart.  Anyone with an objection to the nominee or the Directors staying on should email:  bainbridge.chamber@yahoo.com.


The Cooperstown Central School district announced that they went to remote learning today & will do so again tomorrow, after a staff member tested positive for COVID recently.  Staff was ordered to report to the school for both days, and a decision on Wednesday is expected to be announced tomorrow.

Governor Cuomo announced that over 205,000 Tests were reported Saturday, with Positive Test Results for 10,194, or 4.96 %.  Patient Hospitalization went up to 5,410, the Number ICU patients decreased slightly to 1,009, Number ICU with Intubation was up to 567, and there were 106 Deaths Saturday.


Governor Cuomo announced Friday that New York will get 346,000 COVID-19 vaccines from Moderna pending approval from the FDA, those vaccines will follow the 170,000 Pfizer vaccines that were previously announced. About 4,500 vaccines will be distributed to the Southern Tier. The Governor also announced that the State Commercial Eviction Moratorium will be extended again.


Delaware County Public Health reported that 74% of recent COVID cases are linked to “living room spread” involving small gatherings among family and friends.  Delaware County had 12 new cases Saturday & 5 more Sunday, 83 cases are active with 4 hospitalized & 402 are quarantined.  The County is up to 512 positive cases, 420 recoveries & 9 deaths.


Otsego County Department of Health reported 25 new cases of COVID Friday, 27 on Saturday & 21 on Sunday.  There are currently 869 individuals on quarantine for being in close contact with a positive case.  Otsego County has had 1588 total confirmed cases, 170 active cases, 16 are hospitalized, there have been 8 deaths, and 768 cases are linked to SUNY Oneonta & 71 confirmed cases linked to Hartwick College


The Sidney Central School District announced that the district has been notified that a 1st grade student has tested positive for COVID-19. The student has not been on campus since Tuesday, December 8th. The Delaware County Health Department has conducted an investigation and the contact tracing has been completed. There will be no change to the instructional model at this time.


A former aide to Governor Cuomo, who is now running for Manhattan borough president, has accused him of sexual harassment in a series of tweets Sunday.  Lindsey Boylan tweeted that the Democratic governor “sexually harassed her for years.   Cuomo’s press office said that there was no truth to the claims.

Governor Cuomo announced that the state has administered 12 million COVID 19 tests, with over 91,000 tested Sunday, with 1029 positive tests. there were 13 COVID related deaths Sunday, giving the state 25,587 deaths since March. Hospitalizations, Patients in an ICU Bed & patients on ventilators have all been increasing in the last 2 weeks.


The Broome County Health Department announced another 93 positive COVID 19 cases Monday afternoon, giving them a total of 2386. They report 83 deaths, 1687 recoveries, and they are monitoring 3768 people. Municipalities with Police Department have been mandated by Governor Cuomo, to meet with their communities & change Policing procedures, if deemed necessary with a commission of local residents. Bainbridge Mayor Phil Wade told WCDO News that they have had their preliminary ZOOM meeting, and said that they hope to nail everything down shortly:

Wade said that the next ZOOM meeting will be on October 27th. Sidney Mayor Andy Matviak told WCDO News that they are forming their commission currently, Oneonta City Police & their community are well underway with their process.


The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce announced that a State Senate District 51 event, featuring candidates Jim Barber and Peter Oberacker will be held on Wednesday, October 21, starting at 12:00 noon and a State Senate District 42 forum, featuring candidates Jen Metzger and Mike Martucci will be held on Thursday, October 22, starting at 10:00 am. Both events are free and open to the public through "Zoom", Connection information will be emailed prior to the event to all those who register to info@delawarecounty.org. The programs will be recorded for later viewing.


State Police arrested 73 year old Darrel Rich for 1st degree assault, in connection with a shooting in the town of Fenton on Saturday. State police reported that a 58-year-old woman was shot and was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City. Rich was processed and transported to Broome County Central Arraignment, the shooting remains under investigation.

The Masonville Fire Department responded to a barn fire in Masonville Sunday on State Route 206. The fire started around 4:30 PM Sunday, 16 fire departments responded, the barn was filled with Hay, no people or animals were injured, it was completely destroyed, Delaware County Emergency Services is investigating the cause.


Governor Cuomo announced that 118,254 tests were conducted for COVID 19 Saturday, with 1143 positive tests. Hospitalizations are up to 820, 186 were in ICU, 84 were intubated, there were 5 deaths from Covid Saturday, Total Deaths are up to 25,574.


The Binghamton area has been designated as a Yellow zone, since the discovery of clusters in the City. Yellow Zone restrictions include no more than 25 people at a gathering, indoors or outdoors, houses of worship can have 50% maximum capacity, non essential businesses remain open, Indoor & Outdoor Dining are permitted with 4 maximum per table, Schools are Open with Mandatory weekly testing of students and school personnel, in accordance with DOH guidance.


Delaware County Public Health announced 3 new positive test for COVID 19 for the weekend, giving the county 132 positive cases since March. 8 active cases are all recovering at home, 91 are quarantined, there have been 8 deaths and 116 recoveries.


Delaware County Public Health is offering seasonal flu vaccine for County residents, who are income eligible on Tuesday October 13, between 12:00 to 3:00 PM at the Health Department located at 99 Main Street in Delhi. Appointments are required, more information is available at 832-5200.


The Otsego County Department of Health announced that a cease & desist order was in place for the New York Harvest Festival & Freedom Fair at 397 County Highway 15 in Mount Vision Friday through yesterday. The event is in violation of 2 Executive Orders where events must limit all non-essential gatherings to 50 or fewer. Violation of the restrictions comes with a $15,000 fine and individuals who attend the event and do not wear face coverings may be subjected to a $1,000 fine, The issue has been turned over to law enforcement.

Governor Cuomo reported that Clusters of COVID 19 cases increased several of the state’s numbers on Wednesday.  There were 1382 new cases diagnosed out of over 109,000 tests administered, which was a 1.27% positivity rate.  Patient Hospitalizations went up to 612, there were 141 Patients in ICU beds, 63 were on ventilators, and there were 11 deaths Wednesday, bringing the state death toll to 25,490.


The Broome County Health Department reported 83 more positive cases of COVID 19 since Tuesday, bringing their total to 1610 cases, they still report 82 deaths, 1285 recoveries and 1157 people are being monitored by the health department, following the latest cluster reported in Binghamton last weekend.


Chenango County Public Health announced that they had 2 more positive COVID 19 Wednesday, giving them 253 since March.  They have 4 active cases, 2 patients are hospitalized, 75 are in quarantine, there have been 7 deaths and 229 recoveries, over 29,000 tests have been conducted.


The town of New Berlin will hold a public hearing at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13th at the New Berlin Town Office at 30 North Main Street, to discuss possible cuts to the town budget, including saving about $180,000 dollars by eliminating their Town Police Department.  Municipalities around the state are waiting to see if New York State will receive any federal aid because of the COVID 19 pandemic, New York has lost about 20% of their revenue stream since March.


Village of Delhi Police Department arrested 32-year-old Sheila Thompson and 32-year-old Kyle Alverson of Delhi, each of them being charged with Unlawfully Growing Cannabis and 6 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Thompson and Alverson were released with appearance tickets directing them to appear in Delhi Town Court to answer the charges at a later date.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies  & Downsville Fire & EMS were dispatched to a roll-over accident on County Highway 7 in the Town of Colchester that was reported by “On-Star”.   19-year-old Parker Rosencranse of Roscoe lost control of his vehicle which ran off the roadway, into a ditch and overturned.  Rosencranse was arrested and charged with the DWI, failure to keep right, moving from lane unsafely, unauthorized sticker, among other charges, Rosencranse was released on traffic summonses directing him to appear in the Town of Colchester Court on a later date to answer the charges. Rosencranse & an unidentified passenger were not injured.


With cold weather just around the corner, customers will be firing up furnaces and other appliances for the first time this season. NYSEG officials urge the public to recognize the potential signs of a natural gas leak and review the following safety tips about what do if a leak is suspected.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 4 new cases of COVID 19 Wednesday, all 4 were SUNY Oneonta students, and also 3 cases were reported in SUNY students that had not previously been reported.  Otsego County reports 893 total confirmed cases, 17 are active cases with 1 hospitalization, there have been 7 deaths.   722 cases are linked to the SUNY Oneonta outbreak, 19 confirmed cases in Hartwick College students


Delaware County Public Health reported no new cases of COVID 19 Wednesday, they have had 121 positive cases since March with 7 deaths, 110 recoveries, currently they have 4 active cases with 1 hospitalization, and 31 in quarantine.

Chenango County Health Department announced that they will have 3 Drive-through rabies clinics this year.  The next one will be in Bainbridge at General Clinton Park Today from 9:00 to 11:00, one is also scheduled at the Sherburne Earlville High School bus garage on October 31st from 9:00 to 11:00 and another will be held at the South New Berlin Fire Station on December 5th from 9:00 to 11:00, Pre-Registration is Required at health.ny.gov/go2clinic/9 or by calling 337-1673.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office responded to a 2 motorcycle, 1 car accident Saturday night on State Route 206 in the town of Walton.   Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies and Walton Fire Department and Emergency Squads were dispatched to a motorcycle – deer accident on State Highway 206 near the intersection of Davis Road. 64-year-old Bruce Gerken, and his wife, 58-year-old Deborah Gerken of Bainbridge were traveling on a motorcycle when they collided with a deer that ran into the roadway, Bruce Gerken lost control & he and his wife were ejected from the motorcycle, which then struck a vehicle driven by 56-year-old Debra Higley of Trout Creek.  Bruce & Deborah Gerken were taken to Wilson Hospital, Debra Higley & her passenger 62 year-old Luther Higley were uninjured.  Another motorcyclist traveling with the Gerkens, 74-year-old Richard King from Bainbridge lost control of his motorcycle while attempting to avoid the Gerken’s collision; he struck the guide wires, his Motorcycle overturned, fatally injuring King.  The accident remains under investigation


The State Health Department reported 655 additional cases of COVID 19, after testing almost 67,000 people Monday, bringing the statewide total to 426,571 since March.  537 people are hospitalized, 126 are in Intensive Care, with 60 on ventilators, and there were 8 deaths from the virus Monday, bringing the state death toll to 25,264.


Chenango County Public Health reported that they have had 218 total confirmed cases of COVID 19 since March, they have 96 Active Quarantines, 1 Hospitalization, 199 Total Recoveries, 7 deaths they have conducted 19916 tests.


Governor Cuomo announced that 2 additional states have been added to the travel advisory requiring individuals who have traveled to New York from those states to quarantine for 14 days. The newly-added states are Alaska and Delaware. No areas have been removed.  The full list of restricted states can be found at coronavirus.health.ny.gov.

The Norwich City School District will have their parent informational meeting regarding their reopening plans today & tomorrow.   The Meetings will be both virtual & in person with limited seating in the Auditorium, at 6:00 PM tonight, & Wednesday at 10:00 AM & 5:00 PM.


The Unatego Central School District will have their final Parent informational meeting on reopening today.  The meeting will be virtual only & will begin at 3:00 PM, with the links available at the Unatego school website.


The City of Oneonta has established a dedicated hotline for citizens to report concerns over gatherings that are seen as jeopardizing public health doing this time of COVID-19 pandemic. New York State Law currently prohibits gatherings at which individuals cannot remain a minimum of 6 feet distance from others. Under no circumstances are gatherings of more than 50 persons permitted. US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced that she & many other members of Congress are calling on Postmaster Louis Dejoy to respond regarding the apparent dismantling of the US Postal Service:

Gillibrand said that she is also calling for the Postal Bank to be brought back, which could generate up to 9 Billion dollars a year in revenue for the under-funded postal service.


State Police arrested 24 year old Alexander Hartman of Binghamton for 2nd degree Burglary and 3rd degree Arson.  On August 9, Troopers and the Nanticoke Fire Department were dispatched to a garage fire, an investigation revealed that Hartman broke into a residence to steal items then started a fire in the garage.  Hartman was arrested and processed at the Binghamton barracks & he was later transported to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.


Delaware County received no new positive test result for COVID-19 today or over the weekend and no additional recoveries have been reported. The known active cases in the County as of today remains at 2. To date there have been 98 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19, with 18 people now under mandatory quarantine.  2 people are isolated at home, 6 people have died and 90 have fully recovered.

Ward said that some members of other groups with confederate flags were asked to take those down, & they did not, she reported that there were a couple of fights that broke out, but no arrests have been reported by Bainbridge Police.

The Bainbridge Guilford Central School District will hold informational meeting with district parents Tuesday & Wednesday, regarding their re-opening plans for the fall.  BG Superintendent Tim Ryan explains:

Ryan said that virtual meetings will be held Tuesday at 6:00 PM, Wednesday at 10:00 AM and a meeting will be held Wednesday evening at 6:00 PM at the High School Auditorium, with a limit of 50 people due to CDC guidelines.


The State Health Department reported 408 new positive COVID 19 cases Sunday, out of just fewer than 57,000 tests.  There were 534 hospitalizations, with 133 in ICU beds & 64 on ventilators; there were 6 deaths Sunday, bringing the state death toll to 25,256.  425,900 New Yorkers have tested positive for the virus since March.


Chenango County Public Health announced that they were at 218 total positive cases of COVID 19 since March.  91 people are quarantined, 1 is hospitalized, 197 have recovered, there have been 7 deaths, and they have conducted over 19,600 tests.


The Broome County Health Department announced that they are up to 1110 positive COVID 19 cases since March, with 74 deaths, 965 recoveries & 440 people are being monitored by the Health Department, they have conducted over 33,400 tests.

The Otsego County Health Department announced another free COVID 19 testing site on Thursday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, at the Southside Mall Parking Lot in Oneonta.  The testing is for people who are not sick but want to be tested, by a nasal swab.  This is a drive up testing site. Individuals will be required to remain in their vehicle and wear a mask when pulling up to the testing tent.  This testing site is for Otsego County residents only, call 547-4279 to pre-register for the clinic.


U.S. Senator Charles Schumer will meet with business owners for an economic summit today in Sidney today.  Schumer's meeting will begin at 4:00 PM at the Sidney Civic Center.

Governor Cuomo announced that there were 727 new COVID 19 cases discovered Thursday or .85% of all those tested.  The State total is now 424,167; there were 3 virus related deaths Thursday, bringing the state death toll to 25,232.  Patient Hospitalization were down to 554, there were 127 ICU patients, with 59 on ventilators


Governor Cuomo announced today that Bowling alleys, gyms, museums and other low-risk indoor cultural venues will be allowed to open shortly with strict COVID-19 guidelines.  Cuomo said that Bowling alleys will be allowed to open Monday, with 50% occupancy capacity, face masks & social distancing must be followed & every other lane will be closed, thorough cleaning and disinfection of shared or rented equipment between each use will be required; and all food service must follow all state-issued guidance.  The opening date and rules for gyms will be revealed on Monday.

The State Department of Motor Vehicles is expanding New Yorkers' ability to complete certain transactions through secure drop boxes. The drop boxes can be used for license plate surrenders, address changes, and license and registration renewals. Customers using drop boxes must wear face coverings and maintain social distancing. Drop boxes are located at all state-run DMV offices and are available during regular office hours.  More information is available at dmv.ny.gov.

The Broome County Health Department announced that Friday that they were up to 1102 COVID 19 cases, with 74 deaths, 926 recoveries & 496 are being monitored by the Health Department they have conducted over 32,600 tests since March.

Chenango County Public Health announced that they had no new COVID 19 positive tests Thursday, they have had 218 total cases since March, there are 96 people under quarantine, 1 person is hospitalized, there have been 197 recoveries, and they have performed just under 19,000 tests.


The Oneonta City School District has posted their extensive District Re-opening plan on their website.  With the expected influx of college students coming from all over the country to Oneonta, the district announced that they will remain in the remote learning environment to start the 2020-2021 school year; they will reevaluate that model when they approach the Interim Progress Report period of October 9th.


Congressman Anthony Brindisi announced over $290,000 in grant funding for fire departments across New York’s 22nd District.   The grant money is awarded through the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, will help local fire departments prioritize operations and safety amid the COVID-19 pandemic.  Locally the New Berlin Fire Department will get over $29,000; the South Otselic Volunteer Fire Department will get over $74,000.


The State DOT is advising motorists that State Route 28 is closed between Margaretville and Andes just north of the intersection of NYS Route 28 and NYS Route 30 to allow construction work required in response to recent storm. Detours will be posted.  During the closure, southbound motorists will be directed to County Route 1 to Tremperskill Road, to State Route 30, back onto NYS Route 28. Northbound motorist will follow the same path in reverse. Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. The State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance announced more than $100 million in additional emergency food assistance for New Yorkers adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, is available.   About 700,000 low-income individuals and families enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or "SNAP" will receive a supplemental payment to bring them up to the maximum allowable benefit for August to help them avoid food insecurity.   More information is available at otda.ny.gov/SNAP-COVID-19.


Sales tax revenue for local governments in July fell 8.2% compared to the same period last year, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Collections for counties and cities in July totaled $1.3 billion or $116 million less than in July 2019. Although revenue is still down compared to July 2019, the decline is less steep than any month since March, when the COVID-19 pandemic began to affect sales tax collections.

State Police arrested 26 year old Matthew Haigis of Deposit, Friday for 2nd degree Burglary, Criminal Contempt, Criminal Mischief and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing. Troopers responded to a report of a physical dispute at a residence on North Sanford Road in the town of Deposit, Haigis left the scene, the victim reported that Haigis broke into the residence, obstructed the victim’s breathing and broke a cellphone during an altercation, Haigis also violated an order of protection.   A trooper located Haigis operating a vehicle in Deposit, he was taken in custody, & he was transported to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.


State Police have charged 26 year old Shane Santiago of Otego for 2 counts of 2nd degree Manslaughter, in connection with a July 15th early morning accident that killed 2 area women.   The investigation revealed that Santiago was driving an SUV, when the vehicle went off of Otsego County Highway 13 in Pittsfield, causing the death of Cheyenn Aubry of Treadwell & Tehya Gonzalez of Bainbridge, Santiago suffered minor injuries, he was arrested Tuesday, he was arraigned virtually and remanded on $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 bond, the investigation into the crash continues.


Governor Cuomo announced that 87,776 COVID-19 tests were reported to New York State Tuesday, a new 1-day record high for tests in a single day. There were 700 new cases confirmed Tuesday, .88% of all those tested.  Currently there are 558 patients hospitalized for COVID 19, the number of ICU patients has dropped to 123, the number of Patients on Ventilators is at 62.  There were 7 deaths reported, bringing the state death toll to 25,218


Chenango County Public Health announced that they have had 218 total cases of COVID 19 since March, with 126 Active Quarantines, 1 Active Hospitalization, 196 Total Recoveries & 7 deaths, they have performed over 18,700 tests.

State Police arrested 45 year old Jeremy Squires of Norwich Saturday for2nd degree Burglary, Criminal Contempt, 3rd degree Assault, Criminal Mischief & Endangering the Welfare of a Child.   Troopers were dispatched to a report of a physical domestic on County Highway 35 in the town of Guilford, Squires had already left the scene, and the victim reported that Squires broke into the home, struck the victim & prevented the victim from calling for help.  The victim was transported to Chenango County Memorial Hospital for treatment.  Troopers located Squires in the city of Norwich, and he was arrested, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.

Broome County Health Department announced their COVID 19 numbers Tuesday.  They are up to 1,086 positive test results, with 70 deaths, 909 recoveries & 579 people are being monitored by the Health Department.


Delaware County received 1 new positive test result for COVID-19 Tuesday however; no additional recoveries have been reported. There is 1 active case, who is recovering at home. To date there have been 97 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19, with 11 people now under mandatory quarantine, 6 people have died and 90 have fully recovered.

The State Health Department announced that 667 people tested positive for COVID 19 statewide Monday, bringing the state total to 422,003.  The number of fatalities went up slightly to 25,211.  Governor Cuomo added more states to New York’s coronavirus quarantine list, and removed others.  People traveling from Hawaii, South Dakota and the U.S. Virgin Islands will now be required to self-quarantine for 14 days, Cuomo said that Alaska, New Mexico, Ohio, Rhode Island and Washington have been removed from the list,  which is available at coronavirus.health.ny.gov.

A trooper and 3 civilians were transported to area hospitals after a 3-car crash on I-88 in Otsego County Monday at about 5:05 PM.  Police stated that a trooper from the Oneonta barracks had a vehicle stopped for a traffic infraction on the shoulder of I-88 east in the town of Maryland, when a 3rd vehicle failed to Move Over and crashed into the State Police vehicle, which had all of its lights activated, the momentum pushed the troop car into the vehicle that was stopped.  The unidentified trooper was transported to Bassett Medical Center for head and neck injuries, the occupants of the stopped vehicle,   21-year-old woman and a 3-year-old child of Edwardsville, Pennsylvania were taken to Fox Hospital in Oneonta for head and neck injuries & the driver that struck the troop car, a 32-year-old female of Richmondville was also taken to Fox Hospital for knee & arm injuries.  The crash is still under investigation, police remind motorists to slow down & Move over for all emergency vehicles parked on the shoulder of state highways.

Chenango County Public Health announced today that they are at 216 positive cases of COVID 19 since March, with 119 Active Quarantines, 1 person is in a hospital, there have been 7 deaths, 196 Recoveries & over 18,200 tests have been conducted.

Day 2 of public hearings by Health, Aging, and Investigations & Government Operations Committees of the State Senate and Assembly were held yesterday, regarding the conflicting numbers of COVID 19 positive patients at nursing homes & hospitals in the early part of the pandemic.  There was conflicting testimony about whether or not there was sufficient personal protective equipment in nursing homes & whether or not they are ready for a 2nd surge of cases.  There was also a conflict earlier in the pandemic when nursing homes & hospitals would claim the same person as deceased during a transfer and other conflicts when such patients were not counted toward the COVID 19 deaths.  Testimony can be heard at nysenate.gov/calendar/public-hearings.


Governor Cuomo today signed legislation requiring all passengers in motor vehicles over the age of 16 to wear a seat belt. Currently, passengers aged 16 and older are only required to wear a seat belt in the front passenger seat next to the driver.   The new law takes effect November 1.


The Cooperstown Village law passed a Mandatory Masks measure into law Monday Night.  The law was taken from the existing state law, but gives more specific times & locations for the mandatory policy, mostly around the downtown businesses, during their normal business hours.


Catholic Charities at the Sidney Civic Center announced today that they have extended the registration period for their free backpack & school Supplies promotion for Sidney Central School District Students.  The deadline has been extended through Friday August 21st; more information is available at 604-4071.

50 year-old Richard Millard pleaded guilty to arson Monday for the fire at Home Central in Vestal on February 13th.  There were no injuries in the fire; the company will rebuild the warehouse.
