State Police were dispatched to a crash on State Route 41A in the town of Homer. When Troopers arrived, they found a male in an Amazon uniform on the shoulder of the roadway and a white van on its passenger side, off the roadway with live wires on top of the vehicle. 28 year old Abel Negash of Syracuse, had his van exit the roadway, striking a National Grid pole, he sustained a laceration to his hand and was treated by EMT's at the scene. Negash failed a Field Sobriety Test, he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, his B.A.C was .13%. He was issued appearance tickets to the Homer Town Court on June 16, 2026, and turned over to a sober third party.

This funding will go directly to New York State through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, that provides low-cost financial assistance to help communities upgrade public water infrastructure, offering subsidized loans and grants to replace aging pipes, treat contaminants, and improve public health.

47 year old Thomas Grimsley of Oneonta man faces 20 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to predatory sexual assault for assaulting 2 children in Rensselaer County. Grimsley admitted to sexually abusing two children under the age of 11, after the children reported the abuse to State Police, he faces sentencing on July 20.
State Police arrested 40 year old Shawn Kerwin of Windsor for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger Less than 16 (Leandra’s Law). troopers were dispatched early Monday to a vehicle fire on Old Route 17 in the town of Windsor. An investigation revealed that Kerwin got a flat tire but decided to continue driving, he saw sparks coming from the tire area which ultimately caused the vehicle to catch fire. He and his passenger, a teenager, were able to safely get out of the vehicle without any injuries. Kerwin failed Field Sobriety Tests, He was processed then transported to the Broome County Jail for Arraignment.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced her opposition to President Trump's illegal war with Iran, which she said must be ended as soon as possible:

Senator Gillibrand voted yes Wednesday on the Senate's war powers resolution to reassert Congress' responsibility, demand accountability, and send a clear message that military force must be debated, justified, and authorized before American lives are put at risk. Additionally, President Trump admitted this week that his administration didn't have a plan for how to evacuate Americans in the Middle East caught in the crossfire, leaving Americans stranded, with no support from their government.
State Attorney General Letitia James & other Attorney's General are teaming for a new Lawsuit Against Trump Administration, The lawsuit accuses Trump is misusing Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 and violating the Constitution and statutory rules requiring consistent tariff application.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 33 year old Kimberly Hart of Norwich, following an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving a juvenile victim. Hart allegedly engaged in sexual relations with a female juvenile victim & promoted the production of nude images of the juvenile victim and disseminated those images electronically to a registered sex offender residing in North Carolina. Hart was charged with Obscenity, Sexual Abuse, Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, Sexual Misconduct, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child & Promoting an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child Less Than 17 Years of Age. Hart was arraigned & remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail, $30,000 bond, The investigation remains ongoing.
Attorney General Letitia James said recent events in Iran, may cause shipping delays that could impact U.S. imports and lead to unfair pricing on items like food, pharmaceuticals & gasoline. 43 year old Kaycee Spawn of Port Crane, was sentenced in Broome County Court following her guilty pleas in October. Spawn was sentenced to 2 to 4 years in Prison for possessing Dangerous Contraband in Prison, 4 years in Prison with 3 years Post Release Supervision for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, the sentences will run consecutively due to her undischarged term of imprisonment resulting from a parole violation.
The Binghamton Rumble Ponies announced that Michael Collins takes over as the 19th manager in Binghamton team history. The Rumble Ponies open the 2026 season on the road against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Friday, April 3. The Ponies' home opener is on Tuesday, April 7 against the Somerset Patriots at 6:07 pm. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office released the autopsy findings following the death of Chelsey Davis of Port Dickinson that occurred shortly after entering the Broome County Correctional Facility on October 8th. Davis’ cause of death was listed as “Chronic Alcohol Use with Hepatic Cirrhosis,” with contributing factors listed as “hemorrhaging pancreas and heart disease. The toxicology report found no alcohol or controlled substances in her system at the time of her death. Davis was remanded to the Correctional Facility by the Town of Chenango Court., after booking procedures, she received a full medical and substance abuse screening with Correctional Facility medical staff before being housed in the Medical Unit. Over the next several hours, Davis was seen by medical staff 2 additional times, she was not exhibiting any issues, 20 minutes after the third visit with medical staff, Davis experienced a medical emergency, staff administered CPR and a Defibrillator but were unable to revive her.
The State Department of Motor Vehicles will launch a new technology system, All DMV offices will close at 2:00 PM on Friday, Feb. 13, with online and phone services also unavailable during the transition. DMV operations are expected to fully resume at the start of business on Wednesday, February 18, People who need to renew a license or non-driver ID, or complete other transactions before February 13, are encouraged to use the online options on the DMV website.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand co-sponsors a new bipartisan bill to ban congressional stock trading called the Restore Trust in Congress Act today, to step up the law she had passed 10 years ago that members of Congress are not following:

Gillibrand said that 1 in 3 members of Congress traded stocks or other financial assets from 2019-2021, and at least 3,700 of those trades posed potential conflicts of interest with their legislative responsibilities. 86% of those polled believe that the bill must be enacted & followed.

Applications are open for Delaware & Broome County families in need to send their kids, between the ages of 9 and 12 free of charge to the 2026 New York State Sheriff’s Summer Camp. The deadline this year for the initial application is March 1st, children from across the state travel to Keuka Lake in Penn Yan, to attend the Camp free of charge. The Hartwick College Art and Art History Department presents the 8th Annual Regional High School Art Show in the Foreman Gallery, featuring student artwork from 10 area high schools. Property tax levy growth for New York's school districts and 10 cities will remain capped at 2% for the fifth year in a row, according to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The tax cap limits annual tax levy increases to the lesser of the rate of inflation or 2% with certain exceptions. The law includes provisions that allow school districts and municipalities to override the cap. DiNapoli's office calculated the inflation factor at 2.63%. The 2% tax cap calculations are for 675 school districts and 10 cities with fiscal years starting July 1st.

Property tax levy growth for New York's school districts and 10 cities will remain capped at 2% for the fifth year in a row, according to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The tax cap limits annual tax levy increases to the lesser of the rate of inflation or 2% with certain exceptions. The law includes provisions that allow school districts and municipalities to override the cap. DiNapoli's office calculated the inflation factor at 2.63%. The 2% tax cap calculations are for 675 school districts and 10 cities with fiscal years starting July 1st.

The Trump administration froze $10 billion in funding for child care subsidies, social services, and cash support for low-income families in five Democrat-controlled states---including New York. The administration is claiming widespread fraud throughout these states, Gillibrand said that they did not provide any evidence of fraud in New York.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 46 year old Derrick Gray of Middlefield for Criminal Contempt. Gray failed to obey a lawful court order issued by a judge to respond to the Otsego County Probation Department to receive a GPS ankle monitor, the Otsego County Court issued a bench warrant for Gray's arrest, he was arrested on December 25th and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility without bail, he was charged with violating a court order and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Otsego Court, he was returned to the correctional facility.
The U.S. Small Business Administration is encouraging disaster loan recipients in New York to apply for additional funds to protect their homes and businesses from future storms. Loan recipients have up to two years from their loan approval date to request an increase of up to 20% of their verified physical damages to cover the cost of improvements. State Police arrested 42 year old Francisco Ortiz of Deposit Monday for Felony Assault following a domestic dispute. Troopers were dispatched to a report of a domestic dispute in a vehicle traveling on Interstate 88 in the town of Colesville. Ortiz is accused of striking a victim in the face and crushing the victim’s arm in the middle console of his vehicle, as well as breaking a door at the victim’s residence in Afton. The victim was transported to Tri-Town Regional Hospital in Sidney for treatment to injuries, Ortiz was located in Deposit and arrested, He was transported to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment, and he was issued appearance tickets to the Afton Town Court on January 20 for the damage he caused to the victim’s door.

62 year old Robert Trago of Hancock, was sentenced in Delaware County Court to 5 years of in prison for his conviction of 2nd degree Assault. In September of 2024, State Police were dispatched to the Town of Hancock for shots fired with injuries, Trago shot at his neighbor in the arm while he was walking his dog in front of Trago’s residence, The victim was transported to Albany Medical Center by helicopter but was later released after the bleeding stopped. State Police Forensic Identification Unit Lab was able to match the bullet recovered from the victim’s arm with Trago's firearm.
36 year old Russell Clement of Oneonta, appeared in Delaware County Court Tuesday & was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison for his conviction of Burglary. In July of 2024, a trustee of a house on Charlotte Creek Road in the Town of Davenport was notified by a neighbor of a possible break-in to the house, the trustee noticed specific items missing in the house and a cigarette, where no one had smoked in the house for over 20 years. Gloves were left behind at the scene, DNA results came back with a positive match to Russell Clement. Clement was arrested and admitted to being at that residence and taking items from that residence.
State Police are investigating the death of 59 year old Robin Bowman of Findlay, Ohio, who was found deceased on State Route 281 in Cortlandville on November 25th near railroad tracks. Police do not know why Bowman was in the area, they believe that she drove to the Cortland area. The exact cause of her death is still pending. The investigation is ongoing.

The program is administered by the state but funded by the federal government. States typically receive their LIHEAP allocations from the Department of Health and Human Services by early November, but funding was put on hold during the government shutdown. The funding bill that ended the government shutdown included the same level of funding as last year, but the administration has not released the $4 billion allocated for the program.
35 year old Kyron Milner of Binghamton was found guilty by a jury for 3rd degree Burglary and Resisting Arrest. On December 28, 2024, the Binghamton Police Department responded to a business alarm at 200 Court Street in the City of Binghamton. Security cameras inside the building showed Milner inside the secured premises, Milner falsely claimed to officers that he was an employee of the business, when he was not., he resisted arrest, but was taken into custody. Milner faces up to 7 years in State Prison upon sentencing at a later date.

A Delaware County Grand Jury returned an 8 count indictment against 45 year old Glen Merwin of Harpersfield, for Criminal Mischief, 2 Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child; and 3 counts of Harassment, Criminal Contempt, Merwin is accused of damaging another person's property, acting in a manner endangering children, and ignoring a court order. The allegations stem from incidents in December of 2024.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and Minority Leader Charles Schumer announced that they secured $104 million for local projects in New York State. Funding includes $667,000 for Chenango Memorial Hospital to replace its existing roof, windows, and exterior doors, reducing energy costs and improving safety and security.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 64 year old Keith Hansen of Oneonta, following an investigation into a sex offender failing to report an address change to authorities as required by a Sex Offender. Hansen was released from the Otsego County Correctional Facility in March, he did not update his address with the sex offender registry, an arrest warrant issued & Hansen was located in Oneonta by deputies and taken in to custody without incident, he is being held pending arraignment on the latest charges.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office reported that a fugitive from Broome County was apprehended in Polk County Florida. 44-year-old Dustin Yannuzzi was wanted on a warrant issued in Broome County for Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Sell, Tampering with Evidence, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, and Fleeing to Elude, Yannuzzi was removed from the vehicle and arrested without incident, he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine & faces charges in Florida, he will be returned to New York shortly.
A Delaware County Grand Jury returned an 8 count indictment against 45 year old Glen Merwin of Harpersfield, for Criminal Mischief, 2 Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child; and 3 counts of Harassment, Criminal Contempt, Merwin is accused of damaging another person's property, acting in a manner endangering children, and ignoring a court order. The allegations stem from incidents in December of 2024.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and Minority Leader Charles Schumer announced that they secured $104 million for local projects in New York State. Funding includes $667,000 for Chenango Memorial Hospital to replace its existing roof, windows, and exterior doors, reducing energy costs and improving safety and security.

State Police have identified the woman who drive into a pong in Richfield Springs earlier this week as 39 year old Rachel Galesky of Richfield Springs. State Police were dispatched Tuesday Morning to the site of a pond at Skinner Road & US Route 20 after a passerby called 911 after observing what appeared to be a portion of a vehicle submerged in the pond. Troopers located the vehicle and discovered Galesky inside, they determined that she failed to stop at a stop sign and drove into the pond, The investigation is continuing.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is demanding an end to the Federal government shutdown, so that Congress can act on an extension of the tax credits that help small businesses, their employees, and self-employed individuals afford health care.

An 18-year-old male from Plainview is in custody after stealing a marked New York State Police patrol vehicle. Wednesday morning, Oneonta Troopers were notified of a burglary that occurred overnight at Accurate Auto and Truck Repair LLC in Davenport, where a State Police patrol vehicle that had been undergoing service & was taken from the premises. No weapons were inside the car at the time it was taken. The vehicle was located on I- 90 in Schodack, Rensselaer County, Troopers located the 18-year-old male inside and took him into custody without incident. The individual was arraigned in the Town of Schodack Court and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, He was turned over to investigators from Troop C, where he was additionally charged with Burglary and Grand Larceny, The investigation remains ongoing.
State Police responded to Wednesday afternoon to State Highway 17 in the town of Hancock for a report of a crash in a work zone. An investigation revealed that a Toyota Corolla, operated by 90 year old Mohamed Rawoof of Mahwah, New Jersey struck a State DOT skid steer operated by a DOT employee in the left lane of a marked construction zone. Both Rawoof and the DOT employee were transported to Wilson Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 temporarily expanded and enhanced the Premium Tax Credit, and the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 extended these enhancements through the end of 2025, Congress must act on that quickly in order for the Tax Credit to be available in 20-26.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced $135 million was made available to help communities across the State affordably undertake critical water and sewer infrastructure improvement projects. Locally, the City of Oneonta will receive $5.3 million in federal grant and low-cost financing for improvements at the wastewater treatment plant.

Brady was arrested on June 9, by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit following an investigation, Sentencing is scheduled for January 29, 2026, in Broome County Court.
