Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Tyrell Adams of Pittsfield on a number of charged following an investigation. Adams was charged with 3 counts of Sexual Abuse, Forcible Touching, 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Animal Cruelty & Criminal Contempt. Investigation revealed that over the course of several years, Adams allegedly subjected minors to persistent sexual abuse, Additionally he is accused of killing a family pet near children. Otsego County Family Court issued an order of protection against Adams prohibiting contact with multiple protected parties, he then sent Facebook messages to one of the protected parties. Adams was sent to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment.


Chenango County Health Department reported that a skunk found along State Highway 8 in South New Berlin tested positive for rabies at the State Lab in Albany. Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 29 year old Eugene Buzie of Unadilla for multiple sex offense charges following an investigation. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office announces the addition of charges in to the investigation involving Buzie, On July 19th he was arrested by investigators for multiple sex offense related charges. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the defendant did request, receive and possess a sexual performance by a child through online sources & was charged additionally with Possession of Sexual Performance by a child, Buzie was still incarcerated on the previous charges, he was produced from the Oneida County Correctional Facility to be processed on the new charge, at the Otsego County Correctional Facility and he was returned to the Oneida County Correctional Facility with an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Unadilla Court at a later date.


The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for 40 year old Donald Shurock Jr. A Chenango County Deputy was called to a State Highway 26 in Pitcher Thursday for a suspicious vehicle complaint, the Deputy identified one of the occupants as Shurock, who has active warrants for his arrest. Shurock resisted arrest and fled the scene on foot, causing the Deputy to sustain physical injury. The Deputy was transported to a local hospital and was treated & released. Shurock is described as a white male, approximately 5’8” tall, weighing approximately 165 pounds, balding with short brown hair, brown beard and mustache, wearing a black winter hat, blue/gray Carhartt jacket, jeans, and boots. In addition to the active arrest warrants, Shurock is now wanted on charges of Assault on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. The City of Oneonta Fire and Police Departments are currently investigating a fire that occurred at 47 Chestnut Street Thursday afternoon. Emergency responders were called to the scene at approximately 1:03 PM, finding smoke showing from a second story window above the Oneonta Theatre. A single fatality has been reported and the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The Oneonta Fire and Police Departments were assisted by the West Oneonta, Otego, Franklin, Sidney, Cooperstown, and Worcester Fire Departments; the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 50 year old Ashraf Moussa of Schuyler Lake on 9 counts of possession of a forged instrument. Moussa is accused of utilizing forged documents and licenses to buy and sell vehicles for profit. A search warrant was executed at the defendant's residence where numerous other forged documents were located and seized, he is being held in the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending Court action.

State Police have arrested 7 people linked to a crime spree across 4 local counties.  In July, State Police arrested Christopher Youngs of the town of Maryland & John Clark of Morris in connection with multiple burglaries in Otsego, Delaware, Chenango and Madison counties.  State Police Investigators have lodged additional charges against Youngs and Clark, & they have also arrested 32 year old Joseph Santiago of Burlington Flats, 32 year old Charles Hall of Edmeston, 23 year old Kayla Van Pelt of Edmeston, 59 year old Henry Schmidt of Garratsville, 56 year old Samuel Madero of Morris, All 7 have been linked to over 40 cases between the State Police, local Sheriff’s departments and local police departments.  More charges are likely as investigators continue to work through the open cases.

Chenango County Public Health announced their latest COVID 19 numbers today, with 83 Active Cases, 20 of them are vaccinated cases, 175 are Quarantined, there are 3 hospitalized, 2 of those are vaccinated.  Chenango County has had 4046 cases of COVID with over 3800 recoveries & 82 deaths.


Hartwick College President Margaret Drugovich announced her Plans to Retire Sometime next summer.  Drugovich has led Hartwick College for 13 years, she received national news coverage for her program for an accelerated 3 Year Degree program; plus the development of 6 new undergraduate majors, a graduate-level program in Translational Biomedical Research Management, and soon, its Master of Science in Nursing Education and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Nursing Education and the development of Hartwick’s Center for Craft Food & Beverage program. The College’s Board of Trustees has initiated a formal search to choose Hartwick’s 11th president.


Otsego County businesses and residents affected by severe storms and flooding on July 16 to the 19th may apply for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration; the declaration includes Otsego County and the adjacent counties of Chenango, Delaware, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Montgomery and Schoharie Counties. State Police arrested 22 year old Jessica Winans of Unadilla for the felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle as well as Driving While Intoxicated, following an accident on September 6th.  Troopers were dispatched to a report of a vehicle that struck a tree on Plankenhorn Road in the town of Sidney.  Winans was the only person in the vehicle, she was transported to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City for the treatment of injuries to the face & ankle, and she was issued appearance tickets to the Sidney Town Court on September 23rd.

On the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Governor Kathy Hochul has proposed legislation that would allow National Guard members to qualify as veterans under New York State law. Governor Hochul has also issued a Citation honoring members of the New York National Guard for their service during and after the events 9/11.  Over 6,700 New York State National Guard members were called to serve in response to and recovery from the attack on September 11th 2001.


Governor Kathy Hochul today updated New Yorkers on the state's progress combating COVID-19.  Over 179,000 Test Results were Reported Saturday, the positivity rate has stayed steady at about 3% with over 5400 Positives, Patient Hospitalization decreased by 47 to 2,367, ICU patients remained at 519, the number on Ventilators decreased by 9 to 267, there were 29 Deaths reported.


The State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that State Route 51 will be closed just north of Walters Road in the Town of New Lisbon, today through October 4th, for a culvert replacement.  Motorists should follow posted detours utilizing County Routes 12, 14 and 16. State Police responded to Betty Beavers Gas Mart on County
Road 48 in the town of Otego early this morning for a report of a vehicle that
crashed into a concrete wall.   Troopers
reported that an unidentified 27-year-old woman from Unadilla was operating a
2015 Kia at a high rate of speed on State Highway 991J, she traveled through
the intersection of County Road 48, through the parking lot of Betty Beavers
Gas Mart and into the wall.  Troopers
pulled the woman out of the vehicle and life saving measures were performed by
Otego EMS personnel but were unsuccessful.
The body was transported to Lourdes Hospital for an autopsy & the
investigation is continuing.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Department is seeking the
public’s assistance in locating 48 year old Roxanne Shipman-Hull of the town of
Hartwick.  She is described as white,
with brown hair, Brown eyes, about 5’6” 115 pounds, she was last seen Sunday
September 29th leaving her residence, telling her boyfriend that she was
leaving & had no future plans.
Deputies said that she has a history of leaving, and a history of self-harm,
she was driving a 2011 Gray colored Honda CRV with license plate number
HZN-9505, she may also be with her brown colored female Labrador
retriever.  Anyone with information is

The Chenango Arts Council will begin their 2019-2020
Performance Season with a free concert on Sunday at 2:00 pm in the Martin W.

afternoon, to announce that he is looking to get funding for an emergency
system to alert residence of potential floods, Sidney Mayor Andy Matviak

Schumer is looking to acquire the $150,000 Grant  from the Appalachian Regional Commission, for
a system that would be more reliable than any existing broadband systems, which
would fail to work in areas of the region that has limited or no broadband
service.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office & State Police CNET and SORT Team executed a “no knock” search warrant at 24 North Washington Avenue in the Village of Oxford, following a lengthy investigation. 40 year old Joshua Figary is accused of distributing crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, and marihuana, during the execution of a search warrant, police seized several loaded handguns, $1200 cash & crystal methamphetamine packaged for resale. Figary was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, he faces arraignment shortly.
Fire Investigators are trying to determine what started a fire in a trailer at the Sidney Unadilla Trailer Park on State Route 7 Thursday afternoon. The fire was called in at about 1:00 PM Thursday, the 1st trailer was fully involved when fire fighters arrived, 3 occupants escaped without injury, a neighboring trailer suffered some minor damage. Fire fighters from Unadilla, Sidney, Otego & Wells Bridge responded, no injuries were reported.
2 minors have been charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespassing & unlawful possession of a weapon, following vandalism at the Morris Central School District that occurred Sunday. The 2 are accused of breaking a window, soccer nets, and screens, and for shooting at a security camera. The Morris school district was closed Monday while officers investigated.
The State DEC announced that they are considering enacting quarantine on movement into the state of landscaping debris and similar items, in order to avoid an infestation with the destructive Spotted Lanternfly. The insect is known to attach itself to yard waste, wooden crates, fruit, produce and even lawn tractors, tarps & grills.
