The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory tonight through 1:00 PM tomorrow.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 28 year old Darrick Reynolds of Unadilla following a traffic stop in the Town of Morris November 10th. Reynolds was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Uninsured, Uninspected & Unregistered Motor Vehicle & Improper Plates Reynolds was taken into custody and turned over to Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, he will appear in court at a later date.

Dye was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Registration Suspended & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Dye was found to be operating a motor vehicle on a public highway with a suspended registration and suspended driver’s license, he will Appear in Edmeston Town court at a later date.
The Bainbridge Lions Club is selling raffle tickets through Saturday for 3 big prizes, Lions Club member Cliff crouch explains;

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli audited the State Department of Labor regarding their failure to replace its long-troubled Unemployment Insurance system, which contributed to billions of dollars in improper payments sent out during the COVID-19 pandemic. The audit recommended the Department recommended the replacement of the system, take steps to improve the verification process to stop fraudulent claims, Department officials generally agreed with the audit’s findings and recommendations.
The State DEC announced that November 15th will be recognized as New York Recycles Day.. The DEC is working with SUNY partners to increase the ability to recycle items like glass, paper, and plastics, and to increase education to the public on best practices for recycling, more information is available at dec.ny.gov.

Oneonta police announced that 50 year old Taver Brown of Oneonta died last Thursday morning in a bicycle accident in Huntington Park. Brown died from head & neck injuries in the bicycle crash, he was not wearing a helmet, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Attorney General Letitia James, as part of a coalition of 40 attorneys general, today secured $391.5 million from Google for misleading millions of users about its location data tracking. A multi-state investigation found that Google failed to notify users that location tracking services were automatically turned on for web and app activity. Millions of consumers with Google accounts who used Google's apps, such as Google Maps, Google Search, Google Chrome, and other Google apps, were unaware that their location was being tracked.
An American Red Cross Blood drive will be held today, from 12:00 PM from 5:00 PM at the State University of Oneonta, at 101 C Hunt Hall. Appointment can be made with the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS.

Attorney General Letitia James took action to crack down on rampant robocalls and protect consumers nationwide. Attorney General James joined a coalition of 50 attorneys general to form a nationwide, bipartisan Anti-Robocall Litigation Taskforce to investigate and take legal action against companies responsible for enabling a majority of foreign robocalls into the United States. To report a scam from a robocall, contact the Attorney General's complaint website at formsnym.ag.ny.gov.
Animal Adventure Park announced that they are opening a sister facility called ‘The Preserve’ this week, right across the street for their original facility, owner Jordan Patch told WCDO News about the new venture:

Dunkin' Donuts announced that their annual Go for the Gold initiative, held at more than a dozen locations in the Southern Tier last Thursday, raised $51,832 for Special Olympics New York. During the event, Special Olympics New York athletes and coaches were joined by local law enforcement partners to collect donations at participating Dunkin' Donuts locations, the Sidney location collected over $1900 Thursday.

The CDC reports that New York has the majority of confirmed monkeypox cases in the United States, with 1,345 cases, out of the more than 5,100 cases in the country. The next highest is California, which reported 799 cases of the virus.
Federal authorities are investigating a single engine plane crash on Saturday, afternoon in Palantine in Montgomery County. The State Police initial investigation determined that a mechanical failure occurred, the pilot sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was air lifted to Albany Medical Center by LifeNet. No other injuries were reported. The investigation into the accident is continuing.

State Police reported that 79 year old RoseMarie Windisch of Jefferson was the driver of a vehicle that veered into the opposing lane & hit a Flatbed Truck July 21st. Windisch was pronounced dead at the scene, on State Route 23 in the Town of Roxbury, The flatbed truck operators was unable to avoid the collision, & was treated at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown for non-life-threatening injuries.
State Police were requested to check the welfare of 62 year old Theodore Hammer of Unadilla Monday, he was located in a creek near his residence on Martin Brook Road in Unadilla. The investigation into the cause of his death is continuing.
The State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for June 2022. Locally, Chenango County had 3% unemployment, Delaware County 3.5% & Otsego County 3.1% unemployment in June, the state Unemployment was at 4.4%.
Catholic Charities announced another successful Mass Food Distribution in Sidney on July 19th. 623 Households received food, 36 Families had 6 people or more in their household, a total of 1,742 People received over 17,000 pounds of food. 58 volunteers helped distribute the food at latest Sidney event.
The Chenango County Historical Society announced their Summer Barn Party, to be held from 6:00 to 8:30 PM on Friday August 5th in the Society’s Loomis Barn, at 41 Rexford Street in Norwich. Event proceeds will support a significant portion of the organization’s annual operating budget. Early bird tickets are $39 each at ChenangoHistorical.org through this Friday July 29.

The State Health Department reported that the positivity rate from the latest strains of COVID 19 is still just under 10% state wide. Patient Hospitalizations continue to increase back up to 2,649, there are 253 ICU patients, 79 on ventilators, there were 24 more deaths reported in Hospitals & nursing homes from COVID 19.
The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer will be held in Oneonta at Neahwa Park on September 25th this year, which is a key fundraiser for the Association, Spokesperson Ann Thayer told WCDO News that while the event is 2 months away, people can start forming teams to participate right now:

An adult male was found to have been shot in the chest and was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City, The 40-year-old victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. There is no threat to the public and the investigation is on-going. Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at (607)561-7400.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that nearly $70 million in grant funding has been awarded to newly licensed, registered or permitted child care programs in areas lacking child care slots, The funds were made available through the American Rescue Plan Act and are administered by the State Office of Children and Family Services. In the Southern Tier, $4,148,000 in grant funding will go to 26 child care facilities.
The State DOT announced that the Exit 5 ramp from southbound I-81 to U.S. Route 11 and the intersection of Route 11 and Old Front Street in the Town of Dickinson, is closed for about 10 days to accommodate construction of a new roundabout. Variable Messaging Signs are in place advising motorists of detours, Travelers should anticipate delays and allow for extra travel time.

Oneonta Police are investigating the murder of a 24-year-old Kaleb O’Neill of Oneonta Monday. Oneonta Police Department received a 911 call of a male being stabbed in the alleyway of 6 Dietz Street, O’Neill had multiple stab wounds, 1st responders administered aid, he was transported to A.O. Fox Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. State Police Forensic Identification Unit and canine unit were called to the scene and an attempt to locate the suspects was undertaken but revealed no other information. The case remains under investigation by the Oneonta Police Department & State Police BCI & Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Oneonta Police Detective Division at (607) 432-1111.
State Police responded to a report of a motorcycle that crashed on I-81 Friday. A trooper located a Harley Davidson that had crashed into a guide-rail in the town of Marathon. The operator, 44 year old Daniel McPhillips of Throop, Pennsylvania was later located deceased, The investigation is on-going.

State Police arrested 21 year old Joseph Hayes of Middletown and 26 year old Cory Bartley of Fleischmanns for breaking a window at a synagogue in Fleischmanns, May 20th. Hayes and Bartley entered synagogue property, and Hayes threw a large rock at the building, breaking a window. Bartley also threw a rock at the building, which did not cause any damage. Hayes is charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespass, Bartley is charged with criminal mischief, Troopers issued both men appearance tickets returnable to Middletown town court on June 23.

Fire fighters in Oneonta responded to a fire at 36 High Street Saturday. The Fire caused extensive damage to the rear of the building, all occupants safely evacuated, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Firefighters from Unadilla & Wells Bridge responded to a fire at 184 Merriman Hill Road Sunday. The fire was confined to a garage, no injuries were reported & the investigation is continuing.
Oneonta Police are investigating the murder of a 24-year-old Kaleb O’Neill of Oneonta Monday. Oneonta Police Department received a 911 call of a male being stabbed in the alleyway of 6 Dietz Street, O’Neill had multiple stab wounds, 1st responders administered aid, he was transported to A.O. Fox Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. State Police Forensic Identification Unit and canine unit were called to the scene and an attempt to locate the suspects was undertaken but revealed no other information. The case remains under investigation by the Oneonta Police Department & State Police BCI & Major Crimes Unit. State Police responded to a report of a motorcycle that crashed on I-81 Friday. A trooper located a Harley Davidson that had crashed into a guide-rail in the town of Marathon. The operator, 44 year old Daniel McPhillips of Throop, Pennsylvania was later located deceased, The investigation is on-going.

The Franklin Fire Department responded Sunday night at about 7:30 pm to State Route 28 & Case Hill for a structure fire. Several area fire departments were called for mutual aid, firefighters were at the scene until about 9:30 pm, no injuries were reported, the cause of the fire is being investigated.
The Centers for Disease Control reports that 29 out of the 54 counties in New York State have a high number of COVID-19 cases. Counties in the "high" category on the CDC's COVID-19 tracker have more than 200 cases per 100,000 or have COVID-positive patients in more than 10% of hospital beds. The CDC said that residents of counties in the "high" category should wear masks indoors. Locally Broome County & most counties North & West of Broome are in the "high" category.

Up to 500 scholarships will be awarded for out-of-state licensed nurses who relocate and practice in New York State to earn a BSN. Up to 250 scholarships will be awarded for New York State licensed nurses to earn a BSN. Up to 250 scholarships will be awarded to New York State residents newly seeking an ADN. Judge Patrick McAllister has ordered the state's congressional and state Senate primaries to be delayed until August 23 to provide time for Jonathan Cervas to replace maps that were ruled unconstitutional. McAllister moved the primaries Friday from their original date of June 28, Cervas will finish drawing new maps by May 20, New York is set to hold gubernatorial and state Assembly primaries in June.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal Motorcycle crash on Interstate 88 near the Port Crane exit in the Town of Fenton Sunday afternoon around 3:45 PM. 2 overturned motorcycles and 2 injured people were located by EMT"S & Deputies, 32-year-old Joshua Callahan of Halfmoon was found unresponsive and laying in the roadway and 40-year-old Radames Gonzalez of Plattsburgh, suffered non-life threatening injuries. Attempts were made to revive Callahan, but he was declared was eventually declared dead at the scene, Gonzalez was transported to Wilson Hospital.
Local government sales tax collections grew by 21.1%, or $901 million, in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year, according to a report released by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Broome County saw the highest County growth at 24.3%, Of the cities that impose their own sales tax, Norwich saw the biggest jump in the first quarter at 30.8%.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Alexander Rogers of the Town of Hartwick for Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief, Conspiracy & Criminal Trespass for a series of forced entry burglaries at commercial businesses in March and April. On April 17th, at 2:30 AM, Deputies were dispatched to a report of a burglar alarm activation, the business had been broken in to and multiple automated teller machines were tampered with. Rogers was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are expected.

New York State plans to start testing wastewater in all counties across New York State for variants of the coronavirus and track changes in concentration. The sub-variant is responsible for an uptick in cases, making up about 42% in the state. State health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett and Governor Hochul stressed that vaccines continue to be a critical tool & people should take advantage of vaccines, and to contact their physician if they get sick, in order to avoid more serious illness.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 28 year old Robert Wehrenberg on a warrant for failure to appear in Otsego County Court. Wehrenberg previously failed to appear in Otsego County Court, a bench warrant was issued through Otsego County Court, he did make an appearance in court and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility, & will appear in Otsego County Court at a later date.

New York State plans to start testing wastewater in all counties across New York State for variants of the coronavirus and track changes in concentration. The sub-variant is responsible for an uptick in cases, making up about 42% in the state. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 28 year old Robert Wehrenberg on a warrant for failure to appear in Otsego County Court. Wehrenberg previously failed to appear in Otsego County Court, a bench warrant was issued through Otsego County Court, he did make an appearance in court and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility, & will appear in Otsego County Court at a later date.

69 year old Michael Murray of Sidney was arrested and charged yesterday with possessing child pornography. Murray allegedly possessed child pornography images and videos on his phone, he appeared in federal Court and was detained pending further proceedings, Murray could face 10 to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and a term of post-imprisonment supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life, if convicted.
Joshua Taylor was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the July 15, 2015 murder of James High. Taylor was found guilty of 2nd degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon killing High on Chenango Street in Binghamton outside of a bar. Taylor was convicted previously in 2017 but was granted a new trial by the New York State Appellate Division after ruling that the jury received insufficient instructions regarding circumstantial evidence.
Governor Kathy Hochul signed a package of legislation Wednesday to address workplace harassment and discrimination. One of the bills will require the Division of Human Rights to establish a toll-free confidential hotline for complaints of workplace sexual harassment, another bill establishes the release of personnel records to discredit victims of workplace discrimination counts as a retaliatory action under the Human Rights Law.
Delaware County Sheriff's deputies arrested 40 year old Ramon Ortiz of Queens for promoting prison contraband. Ortiz is accused of possessing contraband within his body while confined as an inmate at the Delaware County Correctional Facility. A Search Warrant was obtained and Ortiz was transported to Bassett Hospital to verify and facilitate the medical removal of tobacco concealed in a body cavity, Ortiz taken to Town of Kortright Court for arraignment and was released on his own recognizance, to appear in the Town of Delhi Court on a later date to answer the charge. Ortiz remains incarcerated on the unrelated federal charge.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 39 year old Martin Planty of Walton for violating the terms of an Order of Protection. Planty is accused of electronically contacted the protected party on an Order of Protection twice, while incarcerated in the Delaware County Correctional Facility, he was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Contempt & he was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Walton Court on a later date. He remains incarcerated at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on an unrelated charge.

Delaware County Sheriff's deputies arrrested 69-year-old Harvey Sandig of Stamford for driving with a suspended license. On March 10th, Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 23 in the Town of Kortright, at a high rate of speed. Sandig was stopped, the investigation revealed that his driving privileges were suspended for failure to answer a previous summons & there was an active warrant for Sandig’s arrest issued by the Village of Sidney Court for failure to appear. Sandig was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle an d speeding, he was issued Tickets returnable to the Town of Kortright Court, he was turned over to Village of Sidney Police Department for the Arrest Warrant.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the opening of the web-based application portal for hemp farmers seeking to obtain a conditional license to grow cannabis in the 2022 growing season. The license was made possible by a law the Governor signed last month. The portal was opened this week by the New York State Office of Cannabis Management, it allows hemp farmers to apply at businessexpress.ny.gov.

Police stated that a Chevrolet Trail Blazer driven by 42 year old David VanBuren of Otego, while leaving a driveway, entered into the roadway and fails to yield the right of way to a Kia driven by 61 year old Lewis Keyser of Otego. Keyser was flown to Albany Medical Center by LifeNet for emergency surgery for injuries sustained in the accident, the investigation is continuing.

The Associated Press is reporting this morning that Former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has died while serving a prison sentence in a corruption case. Silver died Monday, he was 77, and he had been sentenced to more than six years in prison for using his clout in state government to benefit real estate developers. The conviction ended a four-decade career in the Assembly.
A New York state judge has ruled that the state's mask mandate can’t be enforced. The mandate was re-instituted by the governor over concerns about a winter surge of coronavirus cases. The state health department has said the mandate would be in place until Feb 1. A State Supreme Court Judge ruled that the state Department of Health didn’t have the legal authority to implement the mandate. Governor Hochul says her administration disagrees with the ruling and is “pursuing every option to reverse this immediately." School District can still enforce Mask Mandates for students.

On January 14th, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division assisted State Police with the execution of a search warrant on a residence in the Town of Roxbury, they charged Clark with Falsifying Business Records and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, he was arraigned at the Town of Roxbury Court and was released on his own recognizance. Clark is scheduled to appear at the Town of Roxbury Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Tuesday to a report of a hit and run motor vehicle accident on State Highway 10 in the Town of Delhi. 30-year old Michael Laureanti of Delhi, rear ended another vehicle and fled from the crash scene, he was located & further investigation revealed that Laureanti was operating the vehicle at the time of the accident while his driver’s license was suspended due to a failure to pay child support. The Chenango County District Attorney's Office reported that Cody Coleman of Smithville Flats, appeared in Chenango County Court on December 20th to accept that plea bargain, for the murder of his 16 year old Girlfriend Amelia Wakefield in May of 2019. The case was scheduled to go to trial in May of 2020, but was delayed by the COVID 19 pandemic. Chenango County District Attorney's office offered a plea deal, the charge was lessened from murder to manslaughter, Coleman is scheduled to be sentenced on February 28th in Chenango County Court.
Delaware County Public Health is migrating away from individual case investigation and contact tracing, following a decision by the state Health Department yesterday to stop contact tracing. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Tuesday to a report of a hit and run motor vehicle accident on State Highway 10 in the Town of Delhi. 30-year old Michael Laureanti of Delhi, rear ended another vehicle and fled from the crash scene, he was located & further investigation revealed that Laureanti was operating the vehicle at the time of the accident while his driver’s license was suspended due to a failure to pay child support. State Police took 29 year old Anthony Masi into custody Wednesday afternoon on an arrest warrant for 1st Degree Assault. The warrant stems from a serious assault that occurred in Oneonta after Masi allegedly attacked a victim with a machete-type knife at the Budget Inn on State Route 23 on December 30th, the investigation is continuing.
