Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Kristopher Duncan of Plattsburgh was Sentenced To Prison In Broome County Court this week. Duncan was sentenced to 4 years in State prison followed by 5 years post release supervision after pleading guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Duncan possessed an illegal loaded firearm which he discharged in a room at the Comfort Inn on Upper Front Street in the Town of Dickinson, no one was injured. Duncan has a prior felony conviction for Criminal Contempt in 2017,

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 58 year old Floyd Moseman of East Meredith for driving with a suspended New York State Driver’s license. On October 26th, Deputies responded to a report of a male walking in the middle of the road on State Highway 28 in the Town of Delhi, the investigation revealed that Moseman had operated a Motor Vehicle until it became disabled, then started walking, a check of Moseman’s driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended in the State of New York. Moseman was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, he was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Kristopher Duncan of Plattsburgh, pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in Broome County Court this week. Duncan admitted to firing an unlicensed and loaded handgun in a room at the Comfort Inn on Upper Front Street in the Town of Dickinson on June 11th. No one was injured in the shooting. Duncan will be sentenced in January.

State Police will be participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics, starting tomorrow. The mission of the Law Enforcement Torch Run is to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics movement. This year, Troop B will be running in Plattsburgh, tomorrow morning starting at 11:00 AM.

Broome County Transit premiered their new fully electric buses that the county will be transitioning to in the coming months. The Busses are manufactured by Nova Bus of Plattsburgh, Broome County will be the only county in the state to transition to an all-electric public transit system.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal Motorcycle crash on Interstate 88 near the Port Crane exit in the Town of Fenton Sunday afternoon around 3:45 PM. 2 overturned motorcycles and 2 injured people were located by EMT"S & Deputies, 32-year-old Joshua Callahan of Halfmoon was found unresponsive and laying in the roadway and 40-year-old Radames Gonzalez of Plattsburgh, suffered non-life threatening injuries. Attempts were made to revive Callahan, but he was declared was eventually declared dead at the scene, Gonzalez was transported to Wilson Hospital.

An off-duty New York state trooper was killed Sunday in a snowmobile crash in Dannemora. 31 year old Joshua Gushlaw lost control of the snowmobile, veering from trail and hitting several trees, He was pronounced dead at the scene. Gushlaw joined the state police in 2016 & was assigned to Troop B in Plattsburgh.

Several upstate cites are
teaming up for a lawsuit against pharmaceutical companies, for misleading
health care providers about the addictive dangers of opioid medications they
manufactured.  so far, the cities of
Albany, Schenectady, Troy & Plattsburgh are on the lawsuit against several
top manufacturers of prescription opioid medications, more are expected to join
the suit, as the opioid crisis has continued to grow across New York State.

Bainbridge Fire fighters responded to 1025 Searles Hill Road
Monday afternoon for a structure fire at a Barn that had been converted into
Apartments.  Fire Fighters from Afton,
Coventry, Sidney & Masonville responded, no injuries were reported, but 1
dog died in the fire.  The cause of the fire
was a malfunction with the propane system, according to Bainbridge Fire Chief
Fred Bell.

About 1000 New York state troopers and officers from other law enforcement agencies attended the funeral of Trooper Brian Falb in Plattsburgh this morning.   Trooper Falb served in the state police for 18 years starting in 1998 died March 13th from complications from illnesses contracted while responding to the September 11th 2001 Terrorist attacks in New York City.

The State Department of Health has been notified of a laboratory confirmed case of mumps at SUNY Oswego and another at SUNY Plattsburgh. The case at SUNY Oswego is likely associated with a mumps outbreak in Long Island, where 45 cases of mumps have been confirmed. The source of the SUNY Plattsburgh case is under investigation. Students, who are susceptible to mumps because they have not been vaccinated because they have religious or medical exemptions, have been told they will be excluded from campus for 26 days after the last possible exposure if they do not get vaccinated. Mumps is a highly contagious viral disease characterized by fever, headache and swelling of the salivary glands. Mumps cannot be treated, however two doses of the MMR vaccine provide the best protection against the disease. More information about the mumps is available at health.ny.gov.

Former Broome County resident & escaped prisoner David Sweat appeared in court this morning for arraignment on 2counts of 1st degree escape and 1 count of promoting prison contraband. Sweat did not enter a plea in Clinton County Court in Plattsburgh, so the judge entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. Sweat and Richard Matt escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility, they were on the run for 22 days, Sweat was found June 28th where he was shot and wounded by a state trooper. Matt was shot and killed June 26th. Sweat has been transferred to another state facility, he is serving a life sentence for the murder of Broome County Sheriff's deputy Kevin Tarsia in 2002, and he faces court action again, on September 29th.

NOON NEWS UPDATE-FUGITIVES 6-11-15

State Police continue to search for escaped Clinton Correctional Facility inmates Richard Matt and David Sweat. The focus of the ground search today is a heavily wooded area off State Route 374, east of Dannemora. Search teams are following up on a lead that was developed late Wednesday. More than 500 law enforcement personnel, along with K9 and aviation units, The State Police are being assisted by the FBI, U.S. Marshals, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Department of Environmental Conservation, Forest Rangers, Clinton and Essex County Sheriff Departments, and the Plattsburgh Police Department.
