U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced her opposition to President Trump's illegal war with Iran, which she said must be ended as soon as possible:

Senator Gillibrand voted yes Wednesday on the Senate's war powers resolution to reassert Congress' responsibility, demand accountability, and send a clear message that military force must be debated, justified, and authorized before American lives are put at risk. Additionally, President Trump admitted this week that his administration didn't have a plan for how to evacuate Americans in the Middle East caught in the crossfire, leaving Americans stranded, with no support from their government.
State Attorney General Letitia James & other Attorney's General are teaming for a new Lawsuit Against Trump Administration, The lawsuit accuses Trump is misusing Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 and violating the Constitution and statutory rules requiring consistent tariff application.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 33 year old Kimberly Hart of Norwich, following an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving a juvenile victim. Hart allegedly engaged in sexual relations with a female juvenile victim & promoted the production of nude images of the juvenile victim and disseminated those images electronically to a registered sex offender residing in North Carolina. Hart was charged with Obscenity, Sexual Abuse, Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, Sexual Misconduct, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child & Promoting an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child Less Than 17 Years of Age. Hart was arraigned & remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail, $30,000 bond, The investigation remains ongoing.
Attorney General Letitia James said recent events in Iran, may cause shipping delays that could impact U.S. imports and lead to unfair pricing on items like food, pharmaceuticals & gasoline. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the development of a Fall Action Plan to continue combating the COVID-19 pandemic. Hochul says the plan will address any potential COVID surges later this year. Part of the plan is a strategy for returning to school, including the distribution of 3 million tests to districts before the beginning of the school year. The governor says mask requirements will depend on the numbers. COVID vaccination and treatment initiatives are also in the works, including promoting access to medication, which can be sought through the statewide hotline at 888-873-2869.
Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that 38 year old Timathy Benninger will likely spend 2 to 6 years in jail after failing to register as a sex offender. Benninger was convicted in in 2003 for sexually abusing a 13 year old, had been living in an out of Broome county without registering his address with law enforcement, as mandated by the Sex offender Registration act.
Springbrook has closed on the purchase of properties known as the "Ford Block" on Main Street in Oneonta, Springbrook Chief Operating Officer Seth Haight told WCDO News why they got involved with the Project:

Delaware County DPW announced the closure of county Route 37 in the town of Middletown to through traffic starting at 7:00 AM on Monday July 25. Crews will be performing a slope stabilization project, the closure will be between Main Street and Breezy Hill Road, work is expected to be completed by the end of August. The road will be open for one lane traffic controlled by a traffic light, during off-work hours.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation which designates U.S. Route 20 as "New York Medal of Honor Highway" and a portion of U.S. Route 20 will be further designated "The Disabled American Veterans - New York Medal of Honor Highway." U.S. Route 20 is one of the largest highways in the country, spanning coast to coast connecting Newport, Oregon to Boston, Massachusetts.
The State Department of Health announced the distribution of the Monkeypox vaccine in New York, following an additional allocation of 8,822 doses to New York State from the federal government. The Upstate Counties receiving vaccine doses are centered so far around the Capital District & up to Saratoga County, more information is available at health.ny.gov/monkeypox.
New York State launched a statewide hotline to provide legal advice to employees experiencing sexual harassment in the workplace. The State Division of Human Rights will operate the hotline, at 1-800-427-2773, where callers will be connected with pro-bono attorneys for advice.

Commerce Chenango & The Development Chenango Corporation announced that an agreement has been signed for the purchase of the former SUNY Morrisville building that sits on 14-16 South Broad Street in Norwich, for the purpose of the development of a Hotel. The site for the future “Hotel Norwich”, will allow for a 45-unit hotel in downtown Norwich with a large meeting space, and restaurant, the closing on the property is expected in August.
The Annual Chenango County Dairy Day returns to Norwich tomorrow, after being cancelled last year due to the pandemic. The event will be held at the Chenango County Fairgrounds starting with a parade at 10:30 and the event runs from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

No appointment is needed, The Clinic is first come first serve, 100 doses available, You must be 18 years or older for this type of vaccine & You will need to complete a health screening form before your shot & you will need to wait 15 minutes afterward. The Village of Sidney announced that the water will be shut off today from about 8am to noon from Sunset Ave to Circle Drive on West Main Street. Crews have been installing new water valves in that area.

State Police arrested 30 year old Patrick Jandrew of Lisle for 1st degree Reckless Endangerment. Troopers were dispatched to a residence on Grant House Road in the town of Lisle for a report of shots fired. An investigation revealed that after a dispute, Jandrew fired several rounds from a rifle. He then left the area in a vehicle. Jandrew was located Jandrew in the town of Newark Valley and he was taken into custody, he was transported to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing. Troopers were also assisted by Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Delaware County Public Health reported 13 new COVID positive tests Wednesday out of 387 tested; they have 122 active cases, 8 hospitalized & 290 quarantined. They have vaccinated 1981 against COVID so far.
Chenango County Public Health reported 15 new COVID 19 cases today, bringing their total to 2686 since the pandemic began. Chenango County reports 88 Active Cases 322 Active Quarantines, 4 Active Hospitalizations, and 2439 Recoveries.
The Sidney Central School District reported 3 more positive COVID 19 cases. The district was notified that one kindergarten, 6th and 8th grade student have tested positive for COVID-19. The Delaware County Health Department has conducted an investigation and the contact tracing has been completed. There will be no change to the instructional model.

Over 154,000 Doses have been Administered Across the state Tuesday, More than 1 Million Doses Administered over Past Seven Days. Vaccine Dashboard Will Update Daily to Provide Updates on the State's Vaccine Program; Go to ny.gov/vaccinetracker. Also, State Health Department announced that over 268,000 were tested for COVID Wednesday. With just over 8000 positive, for a 3% positivity rate. Hospitalizations continue to decline to 4600, the number in an ICU bed was 931, the number of ventilators is down to 583, there have been 40, 141 deaths from the pandemic.
Governor Cuomo & State leaders have apparently reached an agreement on legalizing marijuana in New York State. The final details expected to be included in the state budget plan, which is due on April 1st. The Governor has said in the past that legalizing marijuana could bring 350 million dollars a year in revenue.

Joining Attorney General James are the attorneys general of Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Virginia.
The Binghamton Police Department is offering a $1000 reward for information regarding a Shooting Tuesday night in Columbus Park that injured 2 people. Binghamton Police officers found the first victim near the Columbus Park basketball courts with gunshot wounds to both his legs, he was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries, the 2nd victim was found in the hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his wrist. They say he was taken to the hospital from the scene by a personal vehicle. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Binghamton detectives at 772-7080.
With the recent release of the $1400 Economic Impact Payment by the U.S. Treasury and IRS, Delaware County Sheriff Craig S. DuMond urges residents to be aware of the endless scams that are being committed through phone calls, text messages, email and other electronic means, including fraudulent websites. The most recent scams include fraudulent offers claiming to assist individuals in obtaining COVID vaccines, COVID-19 Stimulus payments, callers fraudulently representing themselves as representatives from Medicare, the Social Security Administration or IRS who may threaten you and demand immediate payment to avoid arrest or other legal action. Governor Cuomo today announced that he is extend the "New York On Pause" restrictions until April 29th, as the number of Coronavirus cases continues to go up, but at slower levels than before. The state now has over 130,000 cases of the Coronavirus, with over 16,800 in hospitals, about 4500 on ventilators in ICU beds, the death toll is 4,758, but over 13,000 have been successfully treated. Dr. Jim Malatras has been tracking various models for planning purpose, & the number suggest that New York may be at the beginning of the apex:

The General Clinton Canoe Regatta has been officially cancelled this year, according to Chairman John Harmon:

1000 Ventilators arrived donated by China through Chinese owned business in NYC & Chinese ambassador. 140 Ventilators on loan from Oregon State now has 75,000 total beds, up from 53,000 before Coronavirus. The Chenango County Health Department announced that they have 43 positive cases of the Corona Virus; there are 77 in Precautionary Quarantine, 218 in Mandatory Quarantine.
Otsego County Health Department reported 5 new Coronavirus cases, giving them 29 total confirmed cases, 3 are hospitalized, 6 have recovered and are off isolation & there has been 1 death. 110 people on mandatory or precautionary quarantine, 41 people have been released from precautionary/mandatory quarantine.

Department arrested a Sidney Center woman at the Jackson County Sheriff’s
Office in Medford, Oregon. 32 year old
Chellie Warner of Sidney Center was wanted on a Bench Warrant issued by the Delaware
County Court for failure to appear for a scheduled conference and sentencing
following her guilty plea for Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance. Warner was originally arrested by Delaware
County Sheriff’s Office in December 2017, on a Grand Jury Sealed Indictment
Warrant for various drug charges for selling Fentanyl laced Heroin. Warner was returned to Delaware County
Wednesday she was remanded to the Delaware County jail without bail.
Changes in the length of the statute of limitations recently
passed in the New York Child Victim’s Act, have led to hundreds of lawsuits
being filed against members of the clergy & educators who have been accused
or convicted of rape or sexual abuse.
Former Afton Principal David Curtis now faces a lawsuit after he pleaded
guilty for sexually abusing a teenage student over 30 years ago; his accuser
has brought a lawsuit against him and the Afton school district. Curtis pleaded guilty to Endangering the
Welfare of a child by Sexual Contact, under the terms of a plea bargain
arrangement in 1991.
State Senator Jim Seward will be in Oneonta tomorrow for a
Justice for Gillian Gibbons rally at Muller Plaza in downtown Oneonta. Senator Seward opposes the potential release
of David Dart, who fatally stabbed Gibbons in the Oneonta Municipal Parking

34 year old Brock Likens of Greene was sentenced in a
federal court room to 78 months in prison for distributing, receiving and
possessing child pornography. Likens
admitted that he knowingly received and distributed child pornography over the
internet using peer-to-peer file sharing software. An undercover law
enforcement officer downloaded 87 child pornography video files from Likens’
computer that he shared with others. A
subsequent search of Likens’ house revealed that he possessed on various
devices, 31 video files and 24 images of child pornography.
The Broome County Sheriff's Department is looking for a
person who crashed a vehicle into a home at 11 Old State Road in Port Dickinson
late last night. The car was left at the
scene, the driver left the scene, the investigation is continuing.
Governor Cuomo announced he has received and reviewed a
recommendation from New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker to
include menthol in the ban on the sale of flavored electronic cigarettes and
nicotine e-liquids. He has accepted these recommendations and directed the
Commissioner to convene an emergency meeting of the Public Health and Health
Planning Council as soon as possible to expand emergency regulations to include
menthol flavors in the ban.
Congressman Anthony Brindisi fought to protect the
Bainbridge VA clinic in Chenango County at a House Veterans’ Affairs Health
Subcommittee hearing Wednesday, and confirmed with Dr. Richard Stone of the Veterans’
Health Administration that the clinic will not close in December 2019, as was
previously proposed. Brindisi invited Stone to visit the Bainbridge facility
and see firsthand the need it fills for Chenango County Veterans. More than 3,600 Veterans reside in Chenango

34 year old Brock Likens of Greene was sentenced in a
federal court room to 78 months in prison for distributing, receiving and
possessing child pornography. Likens
admitted that he knowingly received and distributed child pornography over the
internet using peer-to-peer file sharing software. An undercover law
enforcement officer downloaded 87 child pornography video files from Likens’
computer that he shared with others. A
subsequent search of Likens’ house revealed that he possessed on various
devices, 31 video files and 24 images of child pornography.
The Broome County Sheriff's Department is looking for a
person who crashed a vehicle into a home at 11 Old State Road in Port Dickinson
late last night. The car was left at the
scene, the driver left the scene, the investigation is continuing.
Governor Cuomo announced he has received and reviewed a
recommendation from New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker to
include menthol in the ban on the sale of flavored electronic cigarettes and
nicotine e-liquids. He has accepted these recommendations and directed the
Commissioner to convene an emergency meeting of the Public Health and Health
Planning Council as soon as possible to expand emergency regulations to include
menthol flavors in the ban.
Congressman Anthony Brindisi fought to protect the
Bainbridge VA clinic in Chenango County at a House Veterans’ Affairs Health
Subcommittee hearing Wednesday, and confirmed with Dr. Richard Stone of the Veterans’
Health Administration that the clinic will not close in December 2019, as was
previously proposed. Brindisi invited Stone to visit the Bainbridge facility
and see firsthand the need it fills for Chenango County Veterans. More than 3,600 Veterans reside in Chenango
County.

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond announced that on Thursday September 19th, local law enforcement agencies joined forces in the Village of Sidney area to conduct a multi-agency traffic enforcement detail, which resulted in 43 traffic summonses. Also, 36 year-old Mitchell Knapp of Masonville was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and Violation of Probation. Knapp was arraigned in the Town of Sidney Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where he was held without bail pending further court action.

New York's highest court; The Court of Appeals will hear arguments over whether state statutes and its constitution provide room for physicians to legally prescribe medications to help terminally ill, mentally competent people end their own lives, if the patients choose. The action is being brought by 3 people who say they may face questions on whether to seek end-of-life medical assistance, as well as four physicians and a PhD nurse from End of Life Choices New York. 5 states have legalized a role for physicians to aid in patient suicides; they are Oregon, Colorado, Washington, California and Vermont.
Binghamton Police arrested 34-year-old Edward McCray of Binghamton, following a domestic disturbance Saturday. McCray is accused of menacing his neighbors with a sharp object and was driving an SUV erratically, Police reported that McCray attempted to flee in his vehicle as officers arrived, striking 2 parked vehicles, and intentionally ramming 2 police vehicles, before driving a short distance & overturning his vehicle into a house at 6 Macon Street. McCray exited his overturned car and tried to run on foot, but police apprehended him & charged him with DWI, Attempted Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer, Menacing, and Resisting Arrest. No injuries were reported.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 34 year old Cherie Ebert of East Branch on numerous charges stemming from a report of an underage house party on May 20th in the Town of Hancock where alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs were alleged to have been used and consumed by minors. Deputies charged Ebert with 15 counts of unlawfully dealing with a child, criminal nuisance, and 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, A 16 year old was also arrested and released on an appearance ticket for unlawful possession of marijuana. Ebert was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $500 bail.

Deputies arrested Springett following an investigation in the Town of Afton, after it was found that he allegedly entered a residence without permission and broke the homeowners belongings. Springett faces court action shortly.

State Police arrested 20-year-old Brandon Sprague of Schenevus, for Sexual Misconduct and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, after troopers were advised of an incident in the Town of Maryland. Sprague allegedly had sexual contact with a victim less than 17 years old and also gave them narcotics. Sprague was arraigned in the Town of Maryland Court and was released without bail required. His next court date is on January 30th.
State Police arrested 34-year-old Anthony Fedora from Windsor, for the felony Assault and Unlawful Imprisonment, after troopers responded to a report of a dispute in the Town of Windsor. Fedora allegedly struck the victim several times causing serious injuries & also kept the victim from leaving. Fedora was arraigned in the Town of Windsor Court and was remanded to the Broome County Jail with no bail set. An order of protection was issued. The victim was transported to Wilson Hospital and was treated for their injuries.
28 year old Adam Alexander of Afton was indicted By a Broome County Grand Jury this week, for a fatal crash that killed a motorcyclist from Binghamton last September. Alexander was indicted on charges of 2nd degree Manslaughter, Vehicular Manslaughter, DWI, & driving a vehicle with a BAC of .08 of higher, in connection with the crash on September 5th in the town of Colesville, when Alexander failed to stop at the intersection of Route 7 & 235, and struck a motorcycle driven by Jason Smith, who was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, where he succumbed to his injuries.
State Senator Jim Seward announced his committee assignments for this year's session. Seward will continue to serve on the education, higher education, agriculture, and health committees; he has also been named to the new Senate Select Committee on Technology and Innovation. Seward stated that new technology and innovation companies are starting to grow in New York, the new senate committee will develop strategies to boost the tech sector, and lead to good paying jobs and careers.
Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig announced that he has signed a letter along with 106 other mayors, to members of Congress, to build upon, and not dismantle the Affordable Care Act. The letter seeks to keep numerous protections intact, like treatment for those with mental illnesses, pre existing conditions or various preventative services.
The New York State Legislature will again consider legislation that would authorize people with terminal illnesses to request life-ending drugs from a physician. The bill was introduced Monday, it would require 2 physicians to certify the patient's illness is terminal. Physicians could refuse to agree to the request for any reason. The bill passed an Assembly committee last year but didn't get a full floor vote & it is expected to be rigorously challenged again this year. Colorado, Washington, Vermont, California and Oregon already have similar laws on the books.
The State Department of Labor released local unemployment rates for December today. Locally Chenango County had 5.2% unemployment, Delaware county 5.3% and Otsego County at 4.8%, the State’s unemployment rate decreased 2/10 to 4.9% in December.

State lawmakers are tackling various segments of the Governor's proposed budget plan; Area Assemblyman Cliff crouch said that he hopes that this is the year that the school state aid formula is changed:

Crouch said that the aid formulas were changed by Governor Spitzer about 10 years ago, but a lawsuit by downstate concerns and the recession put those changes on hold, to the detriment of poor rural school districts.

State Police responded to a report of a 1-vehicle crash on County Road 2 near Echo Lake Road in the Town of Greene, where the driver had fled the scene on foot into the woods. The driver was identified as 23-year-old Alexander Drost of Greene. A man had knocked on the door to a home nearby asking for help, Drost was found hiding in a large backhoe. He was arrested for DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and several traffic violations & was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango county Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 property bond.
State Police arrested 34-year-old Anthony Fedora from Windsor, for the felony Assault and Unlawful Imprisonment, after troopers responded to a report of a dispute in the Town of Windsor. Fedora allegedly struck the victim several times causing serious injuries & also kept the victim from leaving. Fedora was arraigned in the Town of Windsor Court and was remanded to the Broome County Jail with no bail set. An order of protection was issued. The victim was transported to Wilson Hospital and was treated for their injuries.
28 year old Adam Alexander of Afton was indicted By a Broome County Grand Jury this week, for a fatal crash that killed a motorcyclist from Binghamton last September. Alexander was indicted on charges of 2nd degree Manslaughter, Vehicular Manslaughter, DWI, & driving a vehicle with a BAC of .08 of higher, in connection with the crash on September 5th in the town of Colesville, when Alexander failed to stop at the intersection of Route 7 & 235, and struck a motorcycle driven by Jason Smith, who was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, where he succumbed to his injuries.
State Senator Jim Seward announced his committee assignments for this year's session. Seward will continue to serve on the education, higher education, agriculture, and health committees; he has also been named to the new Senate Select Committee on Technology and Innovation. Seward stated that new technology and innovation companies are starting to grow in New York, the new senate committee will develop strategies to boost the tech sector, and lead to good paying jobs and careers.
Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig announced that he has signed a letter along with 106 other mayors, to members of Congress, to build upon, and not dismantle the Affordable Care Act. The letter seeks to keep numerous protections intact, like treatment for those with mental illnesses, pre existing conditions or various preventative services.
The New York State Legislature will again consider legislation that would authorize people with terminal illnesses to request life-ending drugs from a physician. The bill was introduced Monday, it would require 2 physicians to certify the patient's illness is terminal. Physicians could refuse to agree to the request for any reason. The bill passed an Assembly committee last year but didn't get a full floor vote & it is expected to be rigorously challenged again this year. Colorado, Washington, Vermont, California and Oregon already have similar laws on the books.
The State Department of Labor released local unemployment rates for December today. Locally Chenango County had 5.2% unemployment, Delaware county 5.3% and Otsego County at 4.8%, the State’s unemployment rate decreased 2/10 to 4.9% in December.
United Way of Delaware & Otsego Counties announced that taxpayers will be able to do their taxes free online through the CASH Coalition of Otsego & Delaware counties. United Way Executive Director Susan Kurkowski explains:

Another public meeting of the Oneonta Downtown Revitalization initiative will be held on Tonight at the Foothills Performing Arts Center Atrium. Updated information will be provided by Stantec Urban Planners, Otsego Now & the local planning committee, regarding plans to transform the downtown business district. Oneonta received 10 million dollars from the state last year for the projects. The public is encouraged to attend & participate in the meeting at 7:00 PM.
State lawmakers are tackling various segments of the Governor's proposed budget plan; Area Assemblyman Cliff crouch said that he hopes that this is the year that the school state aid formula is changed:

Crouch said that the aid formulas were changed by Governor Spitzer about 10 years ago, but a lawsuit by downstate concerns and the recession put those changes on hold, to the detriment of poor rural school districts.

State Police responded to a report of a 1-vehicle crash on County Road 2 near Echo Lake Road in the Town of Greene, where the driver had fled the scene on foot into the woods. The driver was identified as 23-year-old Alexander Drost of Greene. A man had knocked on the door to a home nearby asking for help, Drost was found hiding in a large backhoe. He was arrested for DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and several traffic violations & was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango county Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 property bond.
