Amanda Hellman of Vestal was sentenced in Broome County Court to 10 years in state prison for her role in the kidnapping of Shaleen and Kylea Fortner in April of 2015, from their foster home. Both girls were found at Hellman's residence in Vestal, their biological mother Cindy Fortner is accused of assisting Hellman with the kidnapping, she pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges & faces sentencing shortly.

State Senator Jim Seward announced final legislative approval of a bill he sponsored to increase the amounts of allowable loans under the emergency services loan fund. The bill will adjust the loan rates available to account for inflation and help departments with equipment purchases and other necessary upgrades.
