Revoir said that last year they had about 340 teams that participated, and they hope to get back up to the pre-pandemic totals of about 400 teams.

A US Appeals Court today affirmed the dismissal of a case that sought to overturn New York State's Reproductive Health Care Act, which protects a woman's right to reproductive freedom. The dismissal of the case will allow women to seek an abortion in New York State, regardless of laws being passed against those rights in other states, or on the federal level.

The Canadian Wildfires in Saskatchewan & Manitoba are affecting residents in the Southern tier today & tomorrow. The smoke is expected to lower the air quality index to moderate levels today & tomorrow, any rain that arrives on Thursday, should help to improve conditions through the end of the week. Forecasters are also watching the potential for issues with air quality as A plume of dust from Africa’s Sahara Desert is tracking west across the Atlantic Ocean Today and will soon reach parts of the US this week, likely affecting the Southeast states, and possibly colliding with the air from the Canadian Fires.

Former area Congressman and current Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado announced that he will be challenging Governor Kathy Hochul in the governor’s race next year. Delgado released a video outlining his agenda for New York State Delgado previously served in the U.S. House before becoming lieutenant governor.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 55 year old Yannel Rivera of Bristol Connecticut for Reckless Endangerment, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a motor vehicle, in the Town of Bainbridge on May 26th. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle Rivera was operating in the Town of Bainbridge, he failed to comply and led Deputies on a pursuit, he was eventually apprehended in Walton. Rivera was processed at the Chenango County Sheriff's Office and released on appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Bainbridge Court on a later date.

33 year old James Fulginiti of Oneonta, was arrested by the Otsego County Sheriff's Office for Unlawful Interference with Railroad/Train, Unlawful Propulsion of a Missile at Railroad Trains, Criminal Mischief, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Menacing & Criminal Trespass, following a shots fired complaint on the Norfolk Southern Railway in the Town of Oneonta. On May 28th, Deputies were dispatched to railway near State Highway 7 and Corporate Drive in Oneonta, for the report of a man shooting a firearm at a train. Deputies located Fulginiti, he was taken into custody, he is accused of firing a BB Gun at the train conductor's window, breaking the glass, the conductor was not injured, he subject was transported back to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office, he was processed & was turned over to Otsego County Corrections for Arraignment.

35 year old Renee Cortese of Grand Gorge pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and was sentenced to 90 days of incarceration in the Delaware County Jail. On January 8, 2023, State Troopers were responding to an unattended death investigation at an apartment in Roxbury, and at the scene, Cortese was found to be in possession of fentanyl.

The Harpursville Central School District announced that a district employee has been arrested, a letter to parents stated that the individual is no longer employed by the Harpursville Central School District and law enforcement has not indicated that he charges involve any activity that occurred on school grounds or involved students. more information is expected to be released shortly.

Due to the forecasted evening wind chills in the 20s and other weather considerations, Tonight's Binghamton Rumble Ponies home opener against the Hartford Yard Goats has been postponed. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Wednesday at Mirabito Stadium, the 1st game will get underway at 3 p.m., the 2nd game will begin approximately 40 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 3 people for drug possession. On April 1st, 2025, the Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in North Norwich, it was found that the vehicle operator, Eric Manwarren as well as passengers Wendy Hackett and Damien Chernoff were in possession of drugs. All 3 were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, they were processed & were released on appearance tickets for North Norwich Court at a later date.

24 year old Jose Martinez of Arkville pleaded guilty in Middletown Town Court for Driving a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired by Drugs, and was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge. As part of his sentence, he is also required to attend a Victim Impact Panel, an Impaired Driver Program and his license was revoked for at least six months. If he violates any terms or conditions of his conditional discharge, he is subject to being re-sentenced to 1 year in jail.

State Police responded to the Margaretville Central School District for a report that a student brought a BB gun to school. An investigation determined that on March 27th, an 18-year-old student brought a BB gun on school grounds and it was observed by another student and teacher inside his backpack. The student did not make any threats towards others. The teacher, Jennifer Sobas-Sands failed to report the incident after observing the BB gun, the student was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Sobas-Sands was charged with Official Misconduct and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The student was arraigned at Delaware County Centralized Arraignment. Sobas-Sands is scheduled to appear at the Middletown Town Court on May 22nd.

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to take up a challenge to New York State gun laws that ban firearms from certain “sensitive" locations and require that handgun owners be of “good moral character.” The decision leaves in place an appeals court ruling that upheld provisions of the law, where they allowed New York to continue enforcing parts of the law that ban firearms from public transportation, hospitals and schools, and require that handgun owners prove “good moral character."

State Police revealed today that the August 10th investigation of 2 deaths in Chenango Forks is consistent with a homicide and suicide.  The preliminary investigation determined that 38 year old Matthew Lott caused the death of 63 year old Scott Cleary, using a firearm.  Matthew Lott later caused his own death with a firearm a short distance from a residence on Parsons Road.

The State Court of Appeals, the state's highest court, upheld a law that registered voter can cast a ballot by mail, which rejected a Republican Party challenge to the legislation. The 6-1 ruling from the state Court of Appeals affirmed lower court rulings that the voting expansion law approved by the Legislature last year did not violate the state's constitution.

The State Department of Health & the State Education Department have issued an official determination that certifies pharmacists can administer vaccines against m pox. The Health Department stated that there is a new m pox variant circulating in Africa, which prompted the World Health Organization to declare a global health emergency. The State Division of Consumer Protection is providing tips to help older adults avoid financial scams and exploitation on National Senior Citizens Day, which happens to be today. The FBI’s Internet Crime Report estimates that the annual loss to victims aged 60 years and older in the United States is $3.4 billion dollars, the highest of any age group. On Tuesday, members of the Troop “C” Traffic Incident Management Unit conducted a Seat Belt Checkpoint on the Exit 6 on-ramp to Interstate 81 south just off Upper Front Street in Chenango. Troopers found 17 adults that weren’t wearing seat belts and one child that was not properly restrained. Each violator was ticketed. Troopers additionally issued 19 tickets for other vehicle and traffic violations. New York crash data indicates that approximately one third of all motor vehicle occupants killed on highways are unrestrained.

State Health Department Officials confirmed that a Long Island man in his 50's is the 1st confirmed case of the West Nile Virus in New York State this summer, the unidentified man was hospitalized briefly but has recovered and was released. 2 more cases were confirmed this week in Westchester County Health Department, West Nile is spread by mosquitoes, Symptoms of West Nile include fever, headache, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, rash, joint pain, and minor bleeding. New York State had the most cases of the West Nile Virus in the nation is recently as 2022.

Governor Kathy Hochul today directed the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to issue an emergency declaration to help communities in 18 counties rebuild critical infrastructure after severe storms and flash flooding that took place August 9-10, 2024. The declaration includes Broome, Chenango, & Delaware Counties.

Broome County Sheriff’s #1 Most Wanted fugitive was arrested last night following a traffic stop in Philadelphia. 27 year old Jeremy Lewis of Endicott, was wanted for possession of a handgun that was discovered during a domestic disturbance in Endicott on October 12, 2023. Lewis fled the area and law enforcement had initially been unable to locate him. The Broome County Sheriff’s Warrants Division had tracked Lewis to the Philadelphia area and alerted the local U.S. Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force, Lewis was located during a routine traffic stop on Monday evening, Lewis will remain in custody in Philadelphia until he is extradited back to Broome County for arraignment.

Several area Fire Departments responded to a blaze at Birdsong Farms on State Route 10 in the town of Delhi early this morning. The fire was called in at about 3:40 AM, Firefighters from Delhi, Walton & Trout Creek responded, traffic was detoured for several hours off of State Route 10, the fire was under control late this morning, with fire companies dismissed from service, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The State Legislature continues their session in Albany, and Assemblyman Joe Angelino told WCDO News that he doesn't see any changes in the Bail Reform laws happening, even after a case on Long Island where 4 people were released after dismembering 2 bodies and scattered them over a wide area in public view:

Angelino said that New York is the ONLY state that doesn’t allow a Judge to decide the dangerousness of a defendant prior to release, he will continue to call for a review of Bail statutes.

New York’s Move Over Law will soon be expanded to include all vehicles. Starting March 27th, drivers will be required to take precautions, including slowing down and moving over, to avoid a crash with all vehicles stopped along the roadway. Previously, the law dictated moving over for emergency vehicles parked on the side of a highway, from 2016 to 2020, 37 individuals were killed outside disabled vehicles in New York, nationally, nearly 300 drivers are struck and killed roadside every year.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit affirmed the decision of the United States District Court, Northern District of New York to dismiss the case against Delaware County by former County Social Services Commissioner Dana Scuderi-Hunter, who unsuccessfully claimed that the County had violated her First Amendment rights; that she was denied due process as part of her 2019 dismissal; and The County’s actions were retaliatory as a result of her testimony during a Family Court proceeding.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the availability of additional home heating assistance to help low- and middle-income New Yorkers, as HEAP has extended the deadline for Regular and Emergency HEAP applications to April 12 and is now accepting applications for a second emergency benefit from eligible New Yorkers who have used up their regular and first emergency benefits. The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced that the Baseball Writers of America have selected Adrián Beltré, Todd Helton and Joe Mauer for election into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. All 3 will be inducted, along with former manager Jim Leyland during Induction Weekend 2024 July 19-22 in Cooperstown, N.Y., at the grounds of the Clark Sports Center.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40 year old Joshua Whaley of Pitcher for Criminal possession of a Controlled substance, criminal use of drug paraphernalia & criminal possession of stolen property. Members of State Parole searched Whaley’s property and located a shotgun, and a case containing fifty wax envelopes of Fentanyl and packaging material, a pick up truck with an altered vehicle identification number, which was reported stolen out of New Hartford, Whaley was processed and was held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on his Warrant. Whaley is to appear in the Town of Pitcher Court at a later date.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced support for bipartisan legislation to help expand the mental health workforce in underserved communities. The Mental Health Professionals Workforce Shortage Loan Repayment Act would incentivize mental health professionals to practice in underserved areas by offering them student loan forgiveness up to $250,000. 55 Out Of New York’s 62 Counties, Don’t Have Enough Psychiatrists, Psychologists, or Social Workers to address the growing mental health crisis in New York State.

Former Teacher Benjamin Moyse of Delhi, pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Official Misconduct by a Public Servant, in Delaware County Court. A Delaware County Grand Jury returned an 11 count indictment last year against Moyse, where he was accused of intentionally aided a person under 16 years of age, to possessing and disseminating child pornography, and that he failed to follow Delaware Academy’s policy and procedures when students and parents reported that students were being sexually abused. Moyse was sentenced to a conditional discharge of 1 year for each count. Separate proceedings by the State Department of Education, Office of School Personnel Review and Accountability are pending, his teaching license is being revoked in New York State.

Attorney General Letitia James announced today that a federal appeals court has upheld a court order that New York, the Federal Trade Commission and 6 other states won against convicted criminal Martin Shkreli for engaging in illegal and monopolistic behavior as the CEO of Vyera Pharmaceuticals. The Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit affirmed the January 2022 decision of the District Court for the Southern District of New York, which found that Shkreli violated both federal and state laws by engaging in an illegal scheme to maintain a monopoly over a lifesaving drug, Daraprim, after increasing its price by over 4,000%, Shkreli is banned for life from the pharmaceutical industry and ordered to pay $64.6 million.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 20-year-old Rebecca Stickle of Livingston Manor for an alleged Assault on January 3rd, in the Town of Walton. Stickle is accused of making threats to a female victim that she would hit her with her vehicle. Stickle then attempted to leave the scene, and subsequently struck the female victim, causing physical injury. On January 13th, Deputies, assisted by State Police located and arrested Stickle at her residence she was charged with 2nd degree Assault & was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility to arraignment.

The United States Attorney’s Office announced that 33 year old Dupray Jordan of Binghamton entered a guilty plea in US District Court for possessing fentanyl and methamphetamine with the intent to sell, possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, in connection with a warrant executed in November of 2021. Jordan faces up to 20 years in prison, a series of fines, when he is sentenced on May 8, 2024 in Syracuse.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23-year-old Leroy Williams for unlawful dissemination or publication of an intimate image, a warrant has been issued for Williams’ arrest in the revenge porn case.

The State Court of Appeals ordered new Congressional maps be drawn for the 2024 election, the redistricting decision will ensure that all , district lines should be drawn by the Independent Redistricting Commission, and not by state lawmakers.

The Bassett Healthcare Network board voted to appoint Thompson, who has been the Network’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, as Dr. Ibrahim’s successor, on an interim basis starting on January 1st.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies were contacted by members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office December 19th, that they had 59-year-old Eva Witteman in custody. Delaware County Deputies took Witteman into custody and transported her to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where she was arraigned & held without bail, an indictment was unsealed & she is accused of possessing methamphetamine following an investigation of an abandoned vehicle in February, she was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, she was was released on her own recognizance and directed to appear in court at a later date for these charges.

State Attorney General Letitia James led a multi state coalition of 23 attorneys general urging the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold the government's ability to work and communicate with social media companies to address the spread of dangerous content on their platforms. The coalition filed an amicus brief, urging the Supreme Court to reverse a recent decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals that prevents the important exchange of information between the federal government and social media companies about harmful content on their platforms. Other states participating include California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, & Vermont.

The Jericho Arts Council is now accepting applications from artists who wish to participate in Regatta Row’s 10th year, which will feature Adirondack Canoe Paddle chairs, and Adirondack Canoe Paddle Rocking Chairs. The State Labor Department released their latest unemployment statistics for the month of November. The statewide unemployment rate went up .1% to 4.3 % in November, Chenango County had 3.5% unemployment, Delaware County 3.9% & Otsego County had 3.7% in November.

State Police are participating in the national enforcement initiative to crack down on impaired driving this holiday season. The national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, began today & runs through Monday, January 1st, 2024. In addition to the DWI checkpoints and patrols, Troopers will be watching for distracted drivers, vehicle occupants who are not properly buckled up, and drivers violating the “Move Over Law,” which requires motorists to exercise extreme caution when passing emergency vehicles that are stopped in or on the side of the road. State Police will also conduct underage drinker enforcement details statewide.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will celebrate the Texas Rangers’ 2023 World Series championship through Autumn Glory, the Museum’s tribute to the postseason. The display honoring the 2023 champions is now open, and entrance to Autumn Glory is included with Museum admission. 28 year old Devon Ireland of Unadilla pleaded guilty to Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, in Delaware County Court, he admitted that he was sending sexual messages to a person he believed to be a minor, Ireland is a registered sex offender, it was later revealed that the person he was messaging was an adult, decoying as a child. Ireland will be sentenced to 1 year in jail, he will be required to pay fines and surcharges & he will provide a sample of his DNA for the state data bank. Ireland was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending sentencing on January 29.

State Police responded to a 3-vehicle crash in the town of Newfield, with 1 fatality reported. The investigation revealed that a Toyota and a Jeep were traveling north, The Jeep was stopped for another vehicle in front of it making a turn when the Jeep was rear-ended by the Toyota, which then went into on-coming traffic and was struck by a Cadillac. A passenger of the Toyota, 17-year-old Peyton Shaw of Waverly was pronounced dead on scene, The operator of the Toyota 18-year-old Dale Beeman of Spencer, was transported to Packer Hospital, the operators of the other vehicles were treated at the scene by EMS & were released.

State Police arrested 34 year old Joshua Bean of Endicott for 3 counts of Menacing, State Police responded to a complaint at Highland Park in the town of Union, where Bean allegedly menaced 3 people with a pocket-knife while they were working at the holiday fireworks display. Bean was arrested then transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Governor Hochul signed Angelica’s Law, which decreases the number of prior license suspensions needed to qualify for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. The legislation was named for Angelica Nappi who lost her life after being killed by a driver with multiple prior suspensions.

Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 24 year old Nathaniel Rowe of Coventry for 4 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 3rd degree Burglary, Grand Larceny & Petty Larceny. Rowe is accused of illegally entering a garage & stealing a vehicle & Several Firearms. Deputies located the stolen vehicle at a residence, just a few miles away from crime scene, Rowe was inside the residence with the stolen firearms. Rowe was on parole at the time of his arrest, he was processed and was held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on his Warrant, he was ordered to appear in Town of Smithville court at a later date.

Justice Robert Putorti of the Village of Whitehall Court faces action in the state Court of Appeals, after he allegedly pulled a gun on a defendant in his court room. Putorti has been the Whitehall judge since 2014, he claimed that he acted in Self defense when defendant Brandon Wood appeared to rush the judge''s stand in 2015. The state Commission on Judicial Conduct became aware of the incident & conducted an investigation, it recommended Putorti's removal from judicial office, Putorti challenged the recommendation before the Court of Appeals, he has been suspended from duty with pay while waiting for his day in court. Wood claimed that he was chained to a bench in a hallway & could not rush the judge, he also claimed that Putorti flashed a gun under his robe.

Acting New York State Police Superintendent Steven Nigrelli has announced he's stepping down from office. Nigrelli was no longer under consideration for the permanent role, he plans to retire effective October 6th. A report from the Albany Times Union stated that Nigrelli was investigated for alleged harassment and discrimination complaints, he has served in law enforcement for 32 years.

22 year old Jacoyia Byrne of New York, was sentenced to a 3 year term of probation supervision for the crime of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. . Byrne was arrested May 5th for selling amphetamine to undercover officers with the Delhi Police Department. The Department of Probation recommended Byrne receive a period of probation supervision as punishment, Judge Burkert accepted the plea agreement and sentenced Byrne.

The opening game of the Eastern League Championship Series between the Binghamton Rumble Ponies and Erie Seawolves scheduled for Sunday at Mirabito Stadium has been postponed due to inclement weather in the forecast. Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 48 year old John Jormack of Franklin has been indicted for 3 counts of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child, for allegedly engaging in sexual conduct with a child less than 11 years old and a child less than 13 years old in the Town of Franklin. Jormack is being held in the Delaware County Jail on $50,000 bail.

The State Commission on Judicial Conduct has determined that Justice Jeremy Persons of the Guilford Town Court. The Commission's decision stated that Person's offensive sexual comments in court, the gratuitous displays of a firearm, his failure to account for court funds, the disregard of his own traffic tickets, and his failure to cooperate with investigating entities, demonstrated his unfitness for judicial office.”

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 53 year old Matthew Knutsen of Otego following an accident investigation on April 13, 2023 in the Otego. Knutsen was charged with Aggravated DWI- Blood Alcohol Content .18 or higher, Consumption of Alcohol in Motor Vehicle, Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent Moved from Lane Unsafely, & Failure to Keep Right Knutsen was issued an appearance tickets for the Otego Town Court on a later date.

During Earth Week, Governor Kathy Hochul announced 8 new large-scale renewable energy infrastructure projects have been completed, which should support the creation of nearly 1,800 jobs and spurred nearly $800 million in private investment, while contributing nearly $70 million to their host communities for of school, town, and county payments. The recently completed projects include Puckett Solar of Greene in Chenango County, which is a 20 MegaWatt solar facility developed and constructed by CS Energy and is owned by MN8 Energy.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 38 year old Chad Ostrander of Grand Gorge was arraigned on a 5 count indictment for Attempted Assault of a Police Officer for trying to run down a police officer in Walton, Reckless endangerment for driving at more than 130 miles an hour during a police chase from Walton to Colchester, Criminal Mischief for kicking a door & engaging in a physical domestic dispute in front of a child. Ostrander pleaded not guilty to all 5 counts, & he was remanded back to the Delaware County Jail pending future court action.

Judge Rowan Wilson will be the new chief judge of the state's highest court, The Court of Appeals. Wilson's nomination was confirmed by the State Senate Tuesday.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Victoria Spataro of Oneonta following a traffic stop in the City of Oneonta. Spataro was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Driving While Intoxicated & Inadequate Lights, Spataro was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Oneonta City Court at a later date.

Attorney General Letitia James today secured the largest multi-state agreement with JUUL Labs and its former directors and executives for their alleged role in contributing to the nationwide youth vaping epidemic. As part of a multi state agreement, JUUL will pay $462 million to 6 states and the District of Columbia, New York will receive $112.7 million, which will support underage vaping abatement programs across the state.

Firefighters in Mount Upton & South New Berlin have responded to a reported Structure Fire at 415 Copes Corners Road, in the town of Butternuts. The fire was called in at about 1:00 PM this afternoon, early reports suggest that it is contained to a barn, WCDO News will have more details as they become available.

Governor Kathy Hochul has nominated Rowan Wilson as chief judge of the state's Court of Appeals, which is the state's highest court. Wilson is a Harvard Law School graduate who currently serves as an associate judge of the Court of Appeals, which he has held for 6 years. Wilson is Hochul's 2nd nomination for the position, she previously nominated Hector LaSalle, that choice was rejected by lawmakers in the Governor's own party.

The Broome County Court District Attorney's Office announced that 30-year-old Dominick Howe pleaded guilty to felony Criminal Mischief. In December of 2022, Howe was accused of cutting off his GPS monitor and damaging it, he was required to wear it because of a previous felony conviction for Attempted Robbery, he will be sentenced to 2 to 4 years in State prison on June 23rd in Broome County Court.

French said that all ballots had to be turned in by 9:00 PM last night to be counted, including early & absentee ballots.

The United States Department of Justice announced Tuesday that 30 year old Shelby Ortiz of Maryland, New York was sentenced to serve 15 years in prison and a 20-year term of supervised release, for distributing child pornography. Ortiz also will be required to register as a sex offender upon her release from prison. Ortiz pleaded guilty in October 2022, she admitted that she subjected a 7-month-old boy to sexual contact which was video recorded and sent to to a person living in Florida with whom she was participating in an online and telephone dominant/submissive sexual relationship. The case was investigated by U.S. Homeland Security, the Oneonta Police Department, and the State Police

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced that 27 year old Brandon Morse of Edmeston was charged with cashing a stolen check last month was arrested again over the weekend for falsely reporting an incident to law enforcement. Morse is accused of lying to authorities about a man outside of his residence with a gun. Prior to the February arrest, Morse allegedly stole a $3,500 check from a local business and cashed it illegally. Morse was released with an appearance ticket and is due back in court at a later date.

Delaware County Board of Supervisors were notified that the federal civil rights suit filed against the County by former Social Services Commissioner Dana Scuderi-Hunter, was dismissed by the U.S. District Court Monday. Scuderi-Hunter had filed the civil rights suit last year, claiming that the County had violated her 1st Amendment rights; that she was denied due process as part of her 2019 dismissal; and that the County’s actions were retaliatory as a result of her testimony during a Family Court proceeding. U.S. District Court Judge Lawrence Kahn, ordered the claims made by Scuderi-Hunter be dismissed on the basis that the claims had already been litigated and decided by the State Appellate Division in February 2022, she additionally appealed that decision, which was denied last June, she then sought an appeal from the State Court of Appeals which was also denied. Judge Kahn also dismissed Scuderi-Hunter’s claims that County Attorney Amy Merklen had a conflict of interest in carrying out her duties as assigned.

The Village of Sidney Police Benevolent Association endorsed Acting Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith in this year's race for the the Delaware County District Attorney's Position. The Association stated that they reached this decision following an increase in communication, transparency & compassion from the DA's office & Staff since Smith became the Acting DA January 1st. Smith faces a primary in June from fellow Republican Joe Ermeti of Sidney, who announced his candidacy recently for the DA position.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 71 year old Vincent Balsamo of Walton was arraigned on a sealed indictment in Delaware County Court Monday. The Indictment charges Balsamo with 2nd degree Manslaughter, 2nd degree Assault & Reckless Endangerment, for repeatedly choking, strangling & slapping & striking 52 year old April Kestner of Honesdale Pennsylvania at his residence in the Town of Walton in December 7th of 2022. Balsamo faces 5 to 15 years in jail on the Manslaughter charge, he was sent to the Delaware County Correctional facility on $50,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond.

The City of Oneonta announced that there will be one lane traffic at the intersection of Main Street and Gardner Place in order to tie the new sewer pipe into an existing sanitary sewer manhole. Temporary traffic signals with stop bars will be used to direct traffic and maintain a steady flow. The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists to expect daily single lane closures along both directions of State Route 434 (Vestal Parkway) between Murray Hill Road in the Town of Vestal and Pennsylvania Avenue in the City of Binghamton, weekdays from 6:30 am. to 6 pm. through approximately October 15. The lane closures are necessary to facilitate construction of a multi-purpose pedestrian path.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to disabled vehicle on County Highway 26 in the Town of Hamden. During the course of the investigation Sheriff’s Deputies identified the driver as 21 year old Edwards Khali of Delhi, Deputies discovered that Khali’s vehicle was suspended due to an insurance lapse. Khali was charged with with Operating a Vehicle with a Suspended Registration & Unregistered Vehicle, he was released on an appearance ticket, and was directed to appear before the Town of Hamden Court at a later date to answer for the charge.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office has received multiple reports of a mass text from 438422@rnbenefits.org sent out to an unknown amount of phone numbers. The scammers are claiming to be from Social Services in an effort to obtain EBT numbers and PINs from potential victims. In the text, scammers falsely inform recipients that their benefit card was frozen and they need to call 1-888-392-2362 to re-activate the card. When the person calls the 888 number, they are asked to verify their card number and pin number. Any text received from 438422@rnbenefits.org should be ignored.

State tax receipts totaled $79.8 billion through the 3rd quarter of the State Fiscal Year 2022-23, exceeding the latest projections from the Division of the Budget’s (DOB) Mid-Year Update to the State Financial Plan by nearly $7.7 billion, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Personal income tax receipts totaled $42.1 billion and were $8.1 billion above the latest financial plan projections through December 31st, but $6.9 billion lower than the same period in Fiscal Year 21-22. DiNapoli said that there were 2 fewer collection days from the prior year as well as higher refunds from the Pass-Through Entity Tax and property tax relief.

The State Labor Department announced that the number of private sector jobs in New York State increased over the month by 22,100, to 8,105,700 in December. The State unemployment rate held at 4.3% in December, the Labor Participation rate was at 60.5%

A State Senate Judiciary Panel has rejected Governor Kathy Hochul's nomination of Justice Hector LaSalle to lead New York's highest court, the Court of Appeals. The Committee on the Judiciary voted 10-9 against sending Justice Hector LaSalle's nomination up for a full vote on the Senate floor following a lengthy hearing where Judge LaSalle was questioned on his record.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division arrested 23 year old Demetrius Johnson of Binghamton, for fraudulently using another person’s credit card information to make purchases at a local retail establishment. Johnson was charged with 2 counts each of Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification Information, Petty Larceny and Identity Theft, he was processed and released on an appearance ticket to answer his charges on a later date.

The State's Office of Fire Prevention and Control will begin new outreach efforts to help protect New York's firefighters and their families from the threat of cancer. This new initiative coincides with January's Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month, raising awareness among the fire service on how to develop life-saving protocols for cancer prevention, and to support those who've already received a cancer diagnosis within their fire departments.

There have been some changes to the law since it first went into effect where more criminal defendants can be sent to jail before their trials, other changes allow judges to set bail for more gun crimes, hate crimes and repeat offenses.

Attorney General Letitia James today released a statement after the United States Supreme Court ruled to allow New York's Concealed Carry Improvement Act to remain in effect pending appeal. The Supreme Court upheld a stay that was issued by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in December. The law strengthens requirements for concealed carry permits, prohibits guns in sensitive places, requires individuals with concealed carry permits to request a property owner's consent to carry on their premises, enhances safe storage requirements, and requires background checks on all ammunition purchases.

An investigation into billing errors at NYSEG is underway by the New York Department of Public Service after electric and gas customers from more than 40 counties complained about spikes in their bills last year. The Consumer Advocate of the Public Service Department will host a series of public forums starting this month as part of the investigation into NYSEG.

Village of Sidney officials announced that starting around 9:00 AM on Monday, January 16th, those water system customers north of the Susquehanna River along Route 8 and the surrounding areas will experience water service distruptions for a period of time. Service will be reestablished the same day before 4:00 PM. The disruption is associated with the Village of Sidney’s work to install new water mains under the Unadilla and Susquehanna Rivers.

The Preservation League of New York State and the New York State Council on the Arts announced that the Chenango County Historical Society & Museum has received a 2022 Technical Assistance Grant for $4,000. The grant money will be used to fund a Building Condition Assessment of the museum’s property at 77 Silver Street in Norwich. 19 projects in 14 counties across the state shared in $68,000 in grant money.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded Thursday to the Town of Hamden for a custody dispute complaint. Deputies discovered that the legal guardian of a child under one year old, had permitted parenting time for the biological father to see the child for a specified period of time at his residence in Sidney. Deputies discovered that 20 year old Tyler Morgan of Sidney allegedly refused to give the child back to the legal guardian when ask to do so. Deputies charged Morgan with Custodial Interference, the child was returned to the legal guardian. Morgan was directed to appear to the Town of Sidney Town Court at a later date to answer for the charge.

A new law regarding Pedestrian and bicyclist safety goes into effect today. The new law requires new drivers to learn about pedestrian and bicyclist safety awareness as part of their pre-licensing course.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation requires employers to list salary ranges for all advertised jobs and promotions in New York State. The law is similar to one already in effect in New York City, it goes into effect statewide next September.

State Police at Troop C conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Otsego County on December 21st. 14 businesses were found to be in compliance, in Worcester, Schenevus & Oneonta. During the Underage Drinking Initiative, retail establishments are checked using a trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operative(s) who cannot lie about their age or give a fake date of birth (if asked). When asked for ID, they must show their real ID. All New York State driver’s licenses are horizontal if the license holder is over the age of 21; if the license holder is under the age of 21, they are vertical.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to a report of an animal abuse in the Town of Hamden last week. The investigation revealed that the owner of the animals was 33-year-old Henry Baird of Hamden, Deputies arrested Baird for Over-driving, torturing and injuring animals; failure to provide proper sustenance, a search warrant was executed, which resulted in the seizure of Chickens, 2 Pigs, 2 Emu’s, a goat, and a Peacock, which were later secured by the Delaware Valley Humane Society. Baird was later released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear at the Town of Hamden Court at a later date to answer the charge.

The State University of New York announced that the number of students applying to their school increased from roughly 97,000 applicants last year to over 204,000 from last year. SUNY implemented a new application system where Students were able to apply to up to 5 schools for free, they also launched an out-of-state tuition match program and is teaming up several other colleges in order to increase the interest in the SUNY system.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that she has chosen Hector LaSalle of Westchester County, to be the new Chief Judge of the State's Highest Court, the Court of Appeals. If approved, LaSalle would replace Judge Janet DiFiore, who retired after serving as the chief judge since 2016.

A new law goes into effect this weekend regarding Polling places. The new law allows registered voters to cast their ballot at the wrong polling place as long as they are in the correct county and State Assembly district. The law follows voter confusion over last year's changes to the district's around the state, which will change again in 2024 following legal challenges.

State Police were dispatched Tuesday Afternoon to a 2-vehicle crash on State Highway 12 in the town of Greene. A preliminary investigation revealed that 42 year old Maryann Zupo of Greene was traveling south on State Highway 12 and crossed into the path of another vehicle driven by 22 year old Shelby Rose of Norwich. Zupo was extricated by members of Greene EMS and life saving measures were unsuccessful, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Rose suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wilson Medical Center for further medical care. The investigation continues.

A New York appeals court has upheld a new state law allowing absentee ballots to be reviewed before Election Day, saying it would would be “extremely disruptive” to change the rules with absentee voting already underway. The decision from the Appellate Division of the state Supreme Court reverses a lower court ruling that declared New York’s early review of absentee ballots was unconstitutional. Early voting will continue through Sunday November 6th, Election Day is Tuesday November 8th.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 58 year old Floyd Moseman of East Meredith for driving with a suspended New York State Driver’s license. On October 26th, Deputies responded to a report of a male walking in the middle of the road on State Highway 28 in the Town of Delhi, the investigation revealed that Moseman had operated a Motor Vehicle until it became disabled, then started walking, a check of Moseman’s driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended in the State of New York. Moseman was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, he was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Kristopher Duncan of Plattsburgh, pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in Broome County Court this week. Duncan admitted to firing an unlicensed and loaded handgun in a room at the Comfort Inn on Upper Front Street in the Town of Dickinson on June 11th. No one was injured in the shooting. Duncan will be sentenced in January.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a narcotics search warrant at 322 Conklin Avenue last week in Binghamton, officers seized Methamphetamine, prescription drugs, Suboxone, a Handgun, & drug packaging materials. Investigators arrested 36-year-old Kenneth Everling and 33-year-old Jamel Nichols on a variety of Drug & Weapons charges, both face court action.

The State Court of Appeals Chief Judge Janet DiFiore announced she is stepping down at the end of August after serving for 7 years. Governor Kathy Hochul will nominate a replacement, followed by the State Senate confirmation.

Bassett Healthcare Network and Dr. Tommy Ibrahim have mutually agreed to an early contract extension after 2 years at the helm. Ibrahim was named Bassett Healthcare Network’s President and Chief Executive Officer on July 13, 2020, after a nationwide search. Dr. Ibrahim's Contract was originally scheduled to expire in December 2024, his contract has been extended through the end of 2029.

State Police arrested 28 year old Tyler Burr of Oneonta after he refused to exit his residence for over 23-hours. Troopers went to a home on Emmons Hill Road in the town of Oneonta Saturday night to interview Burr, for his involvement in a theft from Price Chopper on June 20th, Burr aimed a bow and arrow at the troopers then shot in the direction of the troopers. Burr eventually attempted to flee from the residence Sunday evening and was taken into custody. Burr was charged with 4 counts of Menacing a Police Officer, 3 counts of Criminal Mischief, & 3rd degree Burglary, he was processed & transported to the Otsego County Jail to await arraignment. Former Prattsville Town Supervisor Kory O'Hara plead guilty to wire fraud in connection with a grant extended to Prattsville in the wake of Hurricane Irene. As Town Supervisor, O'Hara entered into various grant agreements, O'Hara admitted that he obtained false invoices from Moore's Homes, purporting to reflect construction work performed on O'Hara's Service Station, which Moore's Homes did not perform. O'Hara faces up to 20 years in prison; plus post-imprisonment supervised release of up to 3 years; and a maximum fine of $250,000. He will also be required to pay $24,915 in restitution to the State of New York.

A 32-year-old James Blackman of Afton has been indicted by a Chenango County Grand Jury, he is accused of raping 2 young boys under the age of 11, Blackman is currently being held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility pending future court action

Binghamton emergency crews responded Friday to 139 Washington Street for a report of a fire in an apartment in that building. Emergency crews discovered a drug lab in a different apartment in the building during their routine firefighting operations. Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team responded, nearby evacuated buildings and area businesses were allowed to reopen later Friday evening, the investigation into the illegal drug lab is continuing.

The renovations at the Northeast Classic Car Museum at 24 Rexford Street in Norwich have been completed after a year long construction project. The front of the building has been completed renovated and a larger parking facility was added across the street. The U.S. Department of Labor has ordered Valley Veterinary Associates on State Route 7 in Unadilla to pay over $90,000, in back wages, following an investigation into accusations that the company paid the regular hourly wage to employees for their overtime hours. The investigation also revealed that employee records that were inaccurate. 39 employees were ordered to be paid their proper back-wages.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested Michael Morton of Exeter on June 26th on multiple drug charges, after deputies responded to a complaint of a suspicious person in the Town of Plainfield. Morton is accused of criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of a controlled substance not in original container, he faces court action at a later date.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the passage of a resolution to write equal rights into the State Constitution, to solidify the right to abortion access in New York. When enacted, the amendment will add ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, and sex, including sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes, and reproductive healthcare to existing protections, This follows the recent Supreme Court decision which removed federal protections for abortion.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation to strengthen New York's gun laws and bolster restrictions on concealed carry weapons, to align with the US Supreme Court's recent decision. The legislation expands eligibility requirements in the concealed carry permitting process, Allows the state to regulate and standardize training for license applicants, restricts the carrying of concealed weapons in sensitive locations and Establishes state oversight over background checks for firearms and regular checks on license holders for criminal convictions. The law will take effect on September 1st, an appeals board will be created for those applicants whose license or renewal is denied or revoked, which will take effect on April 1st 2023.

The State Assembly and Senate passed a bill that would require employers to disclose compensation or range of compensation to applicants and employees upon announcing an employment opportunity for the public, or on employee request. The goal of the bill is to combat systemic pay inequality by making salary ranges for specific positions clear, it heads to Governor Hochul's desk to be either signed or vetoed.

The State Division of Criminal Justice Services released their ranking of counties with the most Sex Offenders. Locally, Broome County ranked 12th out of 62 counties with 242 Level 1 offenders, 238 Level 2 offenders, 158 Level 3 offenders, 6 offenders whose level has not yet been determined, that's 644 total offenders total,

Republican Gubernatorial candidate Andrew Giuliani will not be allowed to participate in tonight's televised debate at a New York City Television Station, as he has refused to submit proof he's been vaccinated against COVID-19. A New York appeals court is allowing state Assembly elections to proceed this year under redistricting maps signed into law, but they must redraw the lines for the 2024 elections. The maps were heavily criticized as they were gerrymandered to give Democrats an unfair advantage. Friday's ruling affirmed an earlier court decision that it was too late to move the state's June primary, the court says maps drawn by legislative Democrats could not be used in future elections.

Firefighters responded at about 9:40 Friday Night to a residential structure fire on County Highway 16 in the Town of Burlington. The homeowner contacted 911, Deputies responded & all occupants were successfully evacuated, Multiple fire departments were dispatched and battled the blaze, no injuries were reported.

McDowell and Walker In Afton, is facing over $200,000 in fines from OSHA after an employee entered a grain bin last November to clear a feed buildup that was clogged, the conveyor transporting the feed into the silo activated, partially engulfing the worker in leftover feed. The employee avoided serious injury with help from a co-worker. The company has 15 business days from receipt of its citations and penalties to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA’s area director, or contest the findings before an independent Commission.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that all New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for June. All households participating in SNAP, including those already at the maximum level of benefits, will receive a supplemental allotment this month, 14% percent of the state's population relies on SNAP benefits.

Attorney General Letitia James and the State Department of Taxation and Finance announced the arrest and arraignment of 60 year old Carl Carro of Walton, for failing to pay more than $75,000 in New York state taxes over the past 6 years, he was previously arrested for operating a multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme. Carro is charged with multiple counts of Criminal Tax Fraud, Offering a False Instrument for Filing and Repeated Failure to File Personal Income Tax Returns, if convicted, he faces 10 to 20 years in state prison. Carro was arraigned in the village of Sidney court and was remanded pending a bail hearing.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that the State Court of Appeals 3rd department upheld a rape conviction of Steven Silva of Johnson City. Silva was sentenced to 4 years in Jail followed by 10 years Post Release Supervision, plus he must register as a Sex Offender, for performing sexual acts with a 14 year old.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 64 year old Sherrie White of Deposit, following an investigation of a domestic dispute. McDonald is accused of possessing a catalytic converter that had been stolen from a vehicle in Milford, he was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, auto stripping, criminal mischief, criminal tampering, trespassing, resisting arrest, obstruction to governmental administration, possession of burglar tools and false impersonation, He was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending future court action.

On February 24th, 2022, Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the Town of Walton residence of Joseph Hahn, to assist members of the Delaware County Probation Department with a home visitation, where it was discovered that Hahn was found to be in possession of Suboxone without a prescription. this week, lab test results confirmed the substance was Suboxone, Deputies arrested Hahn and charged him with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Hahn was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Walton Court on a later date.

On April 7th, Sidney Police responded to a report of people fighting in the street on Bates Terrace. Police arrested 24 year old Nathanial Baron of Oneonta for 3 counts of Menacing & 29 year old Sean Alvarez of Sidney for 3 counts of Menacing & 3 counts of Reckless Endangerment, both were processed and released on appearance tickets to appear in Village of Sidney Court at a later date. State Police arrested 40 year old Joshua Condon of Hartwick for Predatory Sex Assault Against a Child in 2 different counties, after it was reported to State Police that Condon raped and sexually abused two victims under the age of 13 on multiple occasions. Condon was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on no bail, it was also revealed that Condon raped a victim under the age of 13 in Delaware County, 34 year old Jessica Bresee of Hartwick was also charged after investigators discovered that she knew about the sex assaults and did not report them to police, she was charged with Criminal Facilitation in Otsego & Delaware Counties.

40-year-old Anthony Robertson was taken into custody in Binghamton, he was wanted on arrest warrants for murder and kidnapping in Massachusetts. Binghamton police and U.S. Marshals took Robertson into custody Tuesday, Robertson and 35-year-old Anwar Kelly of Binghamton fled on foot, they were apprehended after a brief chase. Police executed a search warrant on a vehicle and at an apartment at 83 Pennsylvania Avenue, they seized a loaded “ghost gun," a stolen handgun, a rifle and ammunition, plus fentanyl and cash. Robertson was turned over to the Marshals Service, Kelly was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and sent to Broome County Jail.

The state Court of Appeals upheld a lower state court ruling that invalidated the newly redrawn maps for the State Senate districts and the state’s Congressional Districts. The court found that the maps that were drawn by the state legislature and signed by Governor Hochul were gerrymandered to benefit Democrats, a “Special Master” will be paid to redraw the maps, that is likely to be Jonathan Cervas, a professor at Carnegie Melon University, who recently set up districts in Pennsylvania.

New York State plans to start testing wastewater in all counties across New York State for variants of the coronavirus and track changes in concentration. The sub-variant is responsible for an uptick in cases, making up about 42% in the state. State health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett and Governor Hochul stressed that vaccines continue to be a critical tool & people should take advantage of vaccines, and to contact their physician if they get sick, in order to avoid more serious illness.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 28 year old Robert Wehrenberg on a warrant for failure to appear in Otsego County Court. Wehrenberg previously failed to appear in Otsego County Court, a bench warrant was issued through Otsego County Court, he did make an appearance in court and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility, & will appear in Otsego County Court at a later date.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced the introduction of the "Rural Prosperity Act" today to stream line local governments ability to access federal programs that are spread out & inefficient:

State Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett said that she doesn’t expect to see a “steep surge” in COVID-19 cases as a new omicron subvariant grows more prevalent in the state. Dr. Bassett said that the BA.2 variant comprises about 42% of all New York State cases, the positivity rate of COVID tests on Monday was back up to 2.36%.

State Police arrested 42 year old David Hook & 41 year old David Alleyne, both of Delhi for Criminal Mischief, Auto stripping, Falsifying Business Records & Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, after an investigation into the theft of catalytic converters from vehicles at a private residence in the town of Delhi. Hook allegedly took a stolen catalytic converter to Otsego Auto Crushers in the town of Davenport and signed a receipt that he was the owner of the stolen catalytic converter, Alleyne was found to be in possession of a stolen catalytic converter, Both men were issued appearance tickets and released & will appear in the Davenport & Delhi Town Courts shortly.

The state Court of Appeals reversed an appeals court’s decision last year that found daily fantasy sports violated the state constitution’s ban on gambling.

Delaware County Public Health reported that a raccoon in the Town of Tompkins has tested positive for rabies. The raccoon attacked and exposed one dog; no human exposures were reported. The Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Scott Mawhiney of Deposit filed an application in State Supreme Court requesting bail while he appeals his recent conviction in Broome County Court. Mawhiney was found guilty for attempted murder of a police officer & was sentenced to 30 years in prison, for shooting State Trooper Ryan Thorp in June of 2021, after Trooper Thorp responded to the report of a domestic dispute. The motion was argued before New York State Supreme Court Judge, who denied Mawhiney’s request. Mawhiney will remain in prison.

Several Fire Departments responded to the report of a fire at the Town of Windsor barn Thursday afternoon. The investigation revealed that the fire started in the bay area of a garage, with fire damage to the entire garage itself with most of the damage occurring in the bay area. Windsor, West Windsor, Harpursville, West Colesville, 5 Mile Point, Deposit fire departments responded, no injuries were reported.

Sidney Police Department responded to a domestic dispute Tuesday, police arrested 38 year old Roberto Rincon of Sidney for Criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, Rincon was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court where he was released on his own recognizance to appear back in court at a later date.

Late Wednesday Night into early Thursday Morning, State Troopers and members from the State DOT assisted with the closure of State Route 17 west between exits 67 and 66 to remove a large piece of machinery. Back on February 25th, a tractor trailer, which was not permitted properly, was pulling a large piece of machinery when it suffered a mechanical failure during transport. The weight of the machinery was too heavy to move and a crane from Rogers Industrial & Crane Specialists was brought in to move the load off the first trailer and onto another properly permitted trailer.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced a partnership with SUNY and Syracuse University in which 10 new testing sites will be opening on State University of New York campuses across the state and at Syracuse University the week of Jan. 3. Albany County District Attorney David Soares is dropping a criminal charge against former Governor Andrew Cuomo for allegedly fondling an aide in Albany last year. Soares' decision comes just before Cuomo was due in court this week to answer to the misdemeanor charge, The Albany DA's decision follows other jurisdiction's prosecutors dropping similar charges against Cuomo. The Albany County charges were filed by the Sheriff's Office last October, Cuomo has denied those specific allegations.

The Otsego County Health Department reported 81 new COVID 19 cases on Monday, with 7 hospitalized 398 active cases, and a 12% seven day rolling average positivity rate. Officials remind Otsego County Residents to adhere to the Mask Mandates now in effect until February to try to stop the spread of the highly contagious Omicron Variant.

State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in obtaining information about a burglary that occurred in the town of Hartwick, between the Sunday evening & Monday Morning. The suspect unlawfully entered a residence on Poplar Avenue and caused physical injury to an elderly victim, who was transported to Bassett Hospital and is in stable condition. Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a plan to institute term limits for the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and Comptroller, in the 2022 State of the State Wednesday. Hochul said she will introduce a constitutional amendment to set limits of 2 consecutive terms for those statewide elected officials, & she will propose legislation to impose a ban on earned outside income for those elected officials, with an exception for academic positions that receive ethics board approval. The 2022 State of the State Address will be held in the New York State Assembly Chamber on Wednesday, January 5.

Delaware County Public Health reported 279 new positive cases of COVID 19 in their latest report covering Thursday through Monday, the positivity rate was up to 15.3%. Delaware County has 462 positive cases with 375 quarantined, there have been 85 deaths from the virus during the pandemic.

Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James announced that New York, Connecticut, Maryland, and New Jersey filed a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court to continue their lawsuit against the federal government for the Trump Administrations cap on the deduction for state and local taxes, known as SALT. The petition asks the Supreme Court to review an October 2021 ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit that upheld the district court's rejection of the states' suit, which argues that the SALT cap was a politically motivated bid by the former federal administration to interfere with the policy choices of Democratic led states.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand released her original report on the shortcomings of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program and how it has failed to bring relief to New York borrowers pursuing public service careers. Senator Gillibrand said today that the program was created to alleviate student loan debt for individuals committed to public service careers for at least 10 years, but in recent years a small percentage actually received the delivered promise:

Senator Gillibrand is pushing for passage of the What You Can Do for Your Country Act, which would expand PSLF eligibility so that every type of federal loan and repayment plan is included in the program and would provide a partial forgiveness benefit after five years. Gillibrand said that 1 out of every 14 participants denied loan forgiveness lives in New York, only 1.2% of New York participants have had their loans forgiven.

State Police arrested Chenango County Sheriff Candidate Debra Cubbedge of Norwich on Tuesday, along with 21 year old Kymani Frazer of Yonkers, they were both arrested for 2nd degree criminal trespass, after Troopers were dispatched to a dispute at a residence on County Road 44 in the town of Plymouth. State Police said that Frazer and Cubbedge entered the residence without permission and remained inside unlawfully; they left prior to the trooper’s arrival and were located in the City of Norwich. Cubbedge & Frazer were released, and will return to Plymouth Town Court on October 27.

Governor Kathy Hochul says New York will appeal Judge David Hurd's decision to continue to allow religious exemptions to the state’s vaccine mandate for health care workers. Judge Hurd blocked the state from enforcing the mandate, Governor Hochul said Wednesday she is working with the state attorney general’s office to appeal the decision in the second circuit Court of Appeals.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 23 new COVID Cases Wednesday, with 1 more death reported. Otsego County remains at a HIGH level of community transmission, they recommend everyone wear a mask indoors in public to maximize protection from the Delta variant. Vaccination Rates in Otsego County are reported at 54.7% of total population fully vaccinated, with a higher rate among those 65 & older at almost 80%

Delaware County Public Health reported 85 new COVID cases from October 9th through the 13th, with 3 more deaths reported. Delaware County has 160 active cases, 10 hospitalized & 303 quarantined, there have been 59 deaths from COVID, only 51% of county residents are vaccinated.

Commerce Chenango will hold their annual Legislative Breakfast this morning at the Silo Restaurant in Greene, starting at 8:00 AM. Representatives from the Economic Development Council and The Business Council of New York State will attend; local lawmakers State Senators Fred Akshar & Peter Oberacker and Assemblyman Joe Angelino have been invited to attend.

The American Red Cross is experiencing an emergency blood and platelet shortage and must collect 10,000 additional blood products each week, to meet hospital and patient needs. The Delaware County Board of Elections reminds area voters that Early Voting is available prior to the November 3rd General Election. Broome County Family Court Judge Rick Miller has officially been removed from office, following a lengthy investigation for sexual harassment allegations brought on by employees. Miller also failed to accurately report outside income, the state Commission on Judicial Conduct ruled 7 to 2 that he should be removed from office, Miller appealed and the case went to the State Court of Appeals. Miller has been removed as Family Court Judge, he is also barred from being a judge, but he can retain his law license.

State Trooper Timothy Conklin of Troop C has been named as a finalist for the 2019 "Trooper of the Year" by the International Association of Chiefs of Police's Division of State and Provincial Police. Trooper Conklin was honored for his actions at a January, 2019 traffic stop that turned into a shootout in Kirkwood. Trooper Conklin was one of four nominees recognized for their heroic actions. He is representing the North Atlantic region.

The Board of Directors of the Community Foundation for South Central New York is pleased to announce the Racial Justice and Equity Fund at the Community Foundation is now accepting grant inquiries. Amounts to be distributed from the Fund will provide support for projects, programs, and organizations that build community dialogue, increase the capacity of Black-led organizations supporting historically underserved communities, promote racial justice and equity, and fund projects that counteract systemic racism. Governor Cuomo announced that over 136,000 COVID 19 tests were conducted Thursday across the state, there were 1707 positives, 918 are hospitalized, 200 are in ICU beds, 97 are on Ventilators, & 10 died from the virus, the state's death toll is 25,628. Over 481,000 have tested positive for the virus since March.

Chenango County Public Health announced their latest COVID 19 numbers today, they report that they are up to 291 cases, with 26 Active Cases, no one is hospitalized, and there are 205 Active Quarantines. Since March there have been 7 deaths 246 Total Recoveries & 32,599 tests have been conducted.

The State Department of Labor announced that the State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 12.5% to 9.7% in September. The number of unemployed New York State residents decreased by 302,000, while labor force levels decreased by 362,900.

State Police and Broome County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the death of an unidentified 47 year old Endicott man who was struck by a train in the Town of Union. The incident occurred at 11:45 AM Thursday near the Hooper Road overpass in Endwell. Police do not suspect foul play, the investigation is continuing.

Delaware County Public Health announced that they had no new positive cases of COVID 19 Thursday. They remain at 137 cases, 8 are active with no one hospitalized, 107 are quarantined, and there have been 8 deaths & 121 recoveries.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest of Caleb Casteline of Apalachin for the fatal stabbing of Q-Quan Richardson of Binghamton, at a party in Endwell Wednesday.  Casteline was charged with 2nd degree murder and faces court action on the charge shortly.

The Delhi Village Police Department executed a search warrant on August 21st at 219 Main Street; they seized concentrated cannabis in a variety of forms, as well as LSD, cocaine, marijuana, oxycodone, packaging materials & $1,500 cash from suspected drug sales.  Delhi Police arrested 20-year-old Alana Blaustein of Delhi & 22-year-old Connor Guiseppone of Delhi on a variety of drug charges, both were arraigned in Delhi Town Court where & were released on their own recognizance pending future court action.

State Police responded to a report of a tractor trailer rollover north of the Pennsylvania state line on I-81 at about 11:45 AM Wednesday.  A trooper responded & discovered that the tractor trailer struck the guide rail, continued off the roadway and overturned.  The driver was a 57-year-old male from Quebec who declined hospital treatment, the investigation is ongoing.

State Troopers were dispatched by Broome County 911 to a one-car crash near the intersection of Fox Farm and Reagan Roads in the town of Windsor Wednesday morning.  Troopers discovered that the vehicle went off the roadway and struck a utility pole, the driver was still in the vehicle and unresponsive.  The unidentified driver was pronounced deceased at the scene and an autopsy was ordered.

Former State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver started his prison sentence Wednesday at a federal prison in Otisville, where he will serve 6 1/2 years following a corruption conviction.  Silver left the Assembly in 2015, was convicted a short time later & various appeals & a retrial kept him out of prison.    Silver was convicted twice for administering political favors, as a new inmate, Silver will be tested for COVID-19 and placed in quarantine for 14 days.

Utica Firefighters were called to a massive fire at the former CharlesTown Mall in Utica.    Firefighters from the Utica & surrounding Fire Departments responded at about 1:30 this morning, Utica city officials are advising residents in the eastern sections of the city to remain indoors with their windows shut due to the high winds whipping the smoke & ash around from the blaze.

The State Health Department announced another 791 positive COVID 19 cases on Wednesday statewide after over 83,000 tests were administered.  490 were hospitalized for the virus, 4 deaths were reported, bringing the state death toll to 25,309.

Chenango County Public Health reported that they are still at 223 total cases of COVID 19 since March, with 75 active Quarantines, 1 person is hospitalized, there have been 201 recoveries, 7 deaths & over 21,600 tests have been performed.

The National Transportation Safety Board released documents this week regarding the Prestige Limousine crash in Schoharie on October 6th 2018.  The Board’s Investigators said that The ownership of Prestige Limo took great pain to register the vehicle in a many to avoid safety regulation & twice a year required inspections.  The vehicles brakes failed approaching a t intersection, it crashed into a gas station, killing 2 people in the parking lot & all 18 in the limo.   Nauman Hussain faces 20 charges each for manslaughter & criminally negligent homicide as the operator of Prestige Limousine.

The Otsego County District Attorney’s office announced that Nicolas Meridy of Oneonta has pleaded guilty in a plea bargain arrangement & will serve 22 years to life.  Meridy was arrested along with several others following the murder of Kenneth Robinson in Worcester & the arson fire at Robinson house after the fatal shooting, in October of last year.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a New York City man Tuesday following a property damage accident on County Highway 26 in the Town of Colchester.  23-year-old Evian Camacho of New York City had a suspended driver’s license, for failure to answer summonses in both Bronx and New York counties and for failure to pay a State DMV driver responsibility assessment.    Camacho was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and moving from a lane unsafely.  Camacho was released and directed to appear in the Town of Colchester Court on a later date.

Otsego County Department of Health is investigating 9 cases of coronavirus reported Wednesday, 5 of the cases are SUNY Oneonta students. The other 4 cases have been associated with a gathering of high school students. All cases are have been investigated and contacts are being notified.  Currently, Otsego County now reports 128 total confirmed cases, with 15 active cases, 1 person is hospitalized.  The Otsego County Health Department is holding another free COVID 19 testing this morning from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NOON at the former "Greenies" site on state route 7 in Otego, This testing site is for Otsego County residents only who preregister by calling 547-4279.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 22 year-old Q-Quan of Binghamton, following an investigation into an altercation early Wednesday Morning.  Quan was taken to Lourdes and later Wilson hospital with stab wounds, he apparently was stabbed at a large gathering in the town of Union, The suspect fled the area, and anyone with information should call the Sheriff’s Office at 778-1196.

The Broome County Sheriff's department arrested 25 year old Keenan Johnson of the town of Chenango twice Tuesday.  Johnson reportedly had a dispute with his girlfriend, he was confronted by neighbors & displayed a handgun, he fled the scene, was located by deputies & was charged with Menacing and Criminal Possession of Marijuana before being released on an appearance ticket, he was arrested a short time after his release at the girlfriends residence, fled on a Motorcycle the chase was terminated due to public safety concerns.  Additional charges against Johnson are pending.

The governor said that 408 tested positive out of more than 62,000 tests administered statewide on Sunday, giving the state a total of 430,135 total cases since March, hospitalizations were down to 482, the number of patients in an ICU went down to 122, the number of patients on ventilators was down to 54 & 7 people died from the virus Sunday, bringing the state death toll to 25,295.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Department announced that an all-terrain vehicle accident in the Town of Walton early Friday afternoon has claimed the life of a Bronx teenager.   Deputies and Walton Fire & EMS, responded to Cayuga Trail Road in the Town of Walton, their preliminary investigation revealed that the 15-year-old victim lost control of the ATV, ran off the roadway & collided with a tree and was ejected from the vehicle.   The victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, he was transported by LifeNet to UHS Delaware Valley Hospital where died of the injuries he sustained in the accident.

A State Appeals Court decided last week that the evidence used against Casey Callahan in Otsego County Court in 2016 was not overwhelming and they have reversed his murder conviction & a new Trial will be scheduled.  The Otsego County District Attorney's Office argued that Casey Callahan intentionally ran over his wife Elizabeth Callahan on January 19th, 2000 while in the parking lot off of Interstate 86 near the New York Pennsylvania border, he was tried in Otsego County Court as he was accused of concocting the plan in Otsego County.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 28 year old Corey Bateman of Binghamton following a traffic-stop on State Route 8 in the Town of Sidney Sunday afternoon.  Deputies observed a vehicle towing a camping trailer with improper license plates, it was determined that Bateman had a suspended driver’s license for failure to answer a summons in Broome County and for possession and/or sale of drugs.  Bateman was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operator, improper plates, unregistered trailer, as well as improper brake light; he will appear in the Town of Sidney Court at a later date.

Governor Cuomo announced that the state had 572 new COVID 19 cases diagnosed Saturday statewide, giving New York over 429,700 cases since March.  There were 472 hospitalized for the virus, 110 were in an ICU, 50 were on ventilators, 5 more deaths were reported, including 1 in Broome County, bringing the state death toll to 25,288.

FEMA has approved New York for a FEMA grant under the Lost Wages Assistance program, which will allow New York to provide $300 per week, on top of their regular unemployment benefit, to those unemployed due to COVID-19. Delaware County Public Health received no new positive test result for COVID-19 Friday and no additional recoveries were reported. The known active cases in the County is 4. To date there have been 101 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County, with 30 people now under mandatory quarantine, 4 people are isolated at home,  6 people have died and 91 have fully recovered.

The Women’s Fund Leadership Committee of the Community Foundation for South Central New York has announced its 2020 grant awards to organizations supporting women and girls in the region. Azmat's court appearance is scheduled for 6:00 PM tonight in Franklin Town Court, 20 dogs allegedly used for dog fighting were taken from his property earlier this month by the Delaware County Sheriff's Department.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office
confirmed that 5 firefighters were injured in a Middlefield garage fire on
Otsego County Route 35.  The firefighters
were injured following at least 1 explosion inside the garage, the injured were
taken to Bassett Hospital, and state fire officials are investigating.  Firefighters from Middlefield, Cooperstown,
Westford, Cherry Valley, and Milford responded to the fire Wednesday night.

The Village of Delhi Police
Department arrested 23-year-old Shakiea Goodwin of Brooklyn for 2 counts of
Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument. Goodwin is accused of passing
counterfeit $50 bills at a local garage to pay the tow bill on a vehicle that
had been impounded by the police over the previous weekend. Goodwin was
arraigned in the Town of Hamden Court where she was released on her own
recognizance.

The State Commission on Judicial
Conduct has suggested the removal from duty of Broome County Family Court Judge
Richard Miller.  Miller is accused of
making sexist & demeaning remarks to female staff members, and for failing
to report income and pay sufficient taxes.
Judge Miller may accept the recommendations & resign, or he may
request a review by the State Court of Appeals.

A 2nd child involved in Sunday's crash in Tioga County has
died from injuries sustained in a 2 vehicle crash.  11 year old Trinity Allen died at a Syracuse
Hospital, her brother Zachary died shortly after Sunday's accident on State
Route 17.  Tioga County Sheriff's office
said that the driver, 38 year old Darlene Allen was coming to a stop after
hitting a deer, her vehicle was hit from behind by a tractor trailer
truck.  Darlene Allen was in critical
condition at Packer hospital with undisclosed injuries following the accident,
the investigation is ongoing.

NYSEG Officials are urging customers to be vigilant of scammers posing as representatives of the energy company, after they received reports of customers having accepted calls from people who claim to be “consultants” with a corresponding forged caller ID; sometimes the caller threatens customers with termination if they don't call a prepaid debit card such as ‘Green Dot”.  Any customer who is uncertain whether a call is genuine should hang up and call NYSEG at the number listed on the bill or on the company’s website.

A New York State Appeals Court has upheld the Murder
Conviction  of Nigel Saunders for the
murder of Jordan Dordell in Binghamton in November of 2013.  Saunders & Julian Talamantez were
convicted in Broome County court for the Dordell killing, Saunders will
continue to serve his 25 years to life sentence following the failure of his
appeal.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for
Jordan Hawk on an outstanding warrant, he is known to frequent the Anne Road
area in the Town of Windsor,   he is
described as a White Male, 5'5" about 130 pounds with Brown hair &
brown eyes, he is wanted on a violation of parole for criminal possession of a
weapon.  Anyone with information on

The Annual Delaware County Clean Sweep gets underway
tomorrow.  Farms & Small businesses
will bring their materials Friday, followed by households on Saturday at the
designated time & place, for those who preregistered online of by phone.

A Census Bureau Representative will be at the Otsego County Chamber of Commerce office at 189 Main Street in Oneonta Friday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, to assist with the online application and to answer any questions for anyone interested in getting information for the 2020 census.   The  Census Bureau is seeking thousands of people to assist with the 2020 Census count and they are actively recruiting for Census Listers and Census Field Supervisors.  No experience or education is required, more information is available at 2020census.gov.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation restricting non-profit
corporations from participating or intervening in any political campaign on
behalf of or against a candidate running for public office. The measure
codifies the federal restriction on non-profit corporations participating or
intervening in political campaigns, also known as the Johnson Amendment.     In June 2018, the Attorney General filed a
civil complaint alleging that the Donald J. Trump Foundation had violated the
Johnson Amendment's prohibition on providing support to candidates in office
which resulted in the Foundation's dissolution.
