Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced the successful use of Thermal Imaging Drone Aids in Locating Missing Person Sunday night. Deputies responded to a call of a missing vulnerable adult in the Town of Edmeston, Deputies quickly initiated a coordinated search & they deployed a Sheriff’s Office Unmanned Aerial System equipped with thermal imaging technology, Using the drone’s advanced capabilities, deputies successfully located the individual in a field. The K-9 team and responding deputies found the missing person, who was suffering from hypothermia and complaining of hip pain. The victim was taken to Bassett Medical Center for further evaluation.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 30 year old Johnathon Brezinsky of Sidney for Promoting prison contraband at the Delaware County Correctional Facility. Investigators were notified by Correctional Facility Staff that an Inmate was found to be in possession of dangerous contraband within the Facility, Brezinsky was arrested, arraigned and was remanded back to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 dollars cash bail, $20,000 dollars partially secured bond, and he faces court action shortly.
State Police arrested 39 year old Joshua Skobern of Johnson City after an investigation into an arson at self-service car wash in Endicott. Skobern was charged with Criminal Mischief, 5th degree Arson after Troopers responded to Enviro Auto Wash on Watson Boulevard for damage that occurred on April 12, to a car wash payment kiosk. An investigation determined that Skobern punched the payment kiosk then struck it with a spray wand and then used a lighter to burn the face-plate, causing damage. Troopers located Skobern at his residence. He was taken into custody and was processed and was issued appearance tickets to the Union Town Court on April 28.
Delaware Opportunities is contracted to run the County Senior meals program at 6 locations, plus with deliveries, funded through state and federal subsidies, during contract negotiations with the County, officials determined that the program is not sustainable at the current costs, on Tuesday, the County Board of Supervisors Office for the Aging oversight committee moved to provide for a pro-rated contract with Delaware Opportunities to expire on December 31, then in 2027 the Senior Meals program would be administered through the county rather than a 3rd party. If Delaware Opportunities ceases operation immediately, Delaware County would continue the service without interruption as a County-run program, through the Office for the Aging, with no change to site or staff.
UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital, in partnership with the Norwich Family YMCA, will host a free educational program tonight focused on helping baseball and softball players stay strong, and injury-free throughout the season. UHS Spokesperson Melissa Stagnaro explains:

Norwich Police executed a search warrant Friday on East Main Street & Arrested 52 year old Delf King, following a Chenango County Court indictment. King was charged with 3 counts of Burglary, Attempted Robbery, and 2nd & 3rd degree Assault. King was arraigned on the charges & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $40,000 bail, pending future court action.
The online auction for the Grand Union Plaza at 54 East Main Street in Norwich, began Monday, with a starting bid of $500,000. Norwich Mayor Robert Jeffrey told WCDO News that they are talking to grocery industry people & federal & state lawmakers to try to get interest in the site:

The grocery store at that location closed with little advance warning recently, leaving downtown Norwich without easy access to groceries, and adding to the unemployment rate in the region when all of the workers were let go.
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced that 10 projects and individuals have been recognized with 2026 New York State Historic Preservation Awards. Locally, the MARK Project of Arkville, will receive the Joan K. Davidson Award, They have spent over 40 years advancing community revitalization in the central Catskills through collaborative, locally driven initiatives and becoming a model for community-based revitalization, uniting local leaders, residents, and funding partners, through initiatives in affordable housing, economic development, local MARK PROJECTfood systems, tourism, farming, civic planning, and downtown revitalization.

Bettiol Jr. Distinguished Citizen is Jamie Reynolds, the Leadership Otsego Alumni is Allen Ruffles & the Volunteer of the Year is Adam Stoutenberg, they will be honored at the Chambers annual Dinner on May 14th.

State Police announced that 61-year-old Michael Crandall from Oxford, succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash between his motorcycle & a school bus Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Chenango County routes 35 & 32 in the town of Oxford. Crandall was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, the school bus had 8 children on board, a 12-year-old child was evaluated at Chenango Memorial Hospital, no other children reported injuries. The unidentified school bus drive & an aid were evaluated at the scene and did not need further treatment, The crash remains under investigation.

19-year-old Darius Palmer of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court Wednesday for the killing of 41 year old Tyrell Norris on September 30th of 2024 in Binghamton. Palmer was arrested in the Bronx in October on an arrest warrant for a separate crime, he was returned to Broome County & was found guilty for 1st degree Manslaughter and on a separate Assault charge , he was also ordered to serve 1 year in Broome County Jail, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision on the assault charge.
The Oneonta Common Council approved spending $230,000 on reconstruction of the Market and South Main streets intersection to fix damage from a water main break last month. The council held a special meeting Tuesday & voted unanimously to allocate the funding.

5 corrections officers appeared in Oneida County Court on Tuesday to discuss plea offers related to the beating death of Robert Brooks, an inmate at Marcy Correctional Facility in December. Earlier this month, a judge informed some of the officers who requested additional time to deliberate that he would need a decision from them this week, none of the officers had reached a conclusion. Attorneys representing the officers cited recently receiving discovery information from the prosecution that morning, which required additional review, they were ordered to return to Oneida County Court on May 13th.
23 year old Dekwaun Hicks of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court to 6 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision, for Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon. The charges stem from a June 26, 2024, incident, when members of the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force and the Binghamton Police Department conducted a vehicle stop based on information that Hicks was in possession of a firearm, they recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, ammunition and a quantity of methamphetamine pills. Hicks received additional jail time as he was arrested on a drug charge while out on bail.
Broome County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Saturday to a burglary complaint at the Big Dipper BBQ 2 restaurant in Conklin, a Review of security footage showed 4 individuals breaking in causing several thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to the door and air conditioning unit of the businesses. Several tubs of ice cream and bottles of soda were taken by the suspects Officers arrested 20 year old Tracy Bryce of Conklin for Criminal Mischief & Burglary, 20 year old Jordan Wilson of for Criminal Mischief and Burglary, 2 juveniles were also charged. Bryce and Wilson were processed and arraigned, the juveniles were processed and arraigned before being released to their families.
Chenango County Department of Public Works announced the closure of the bridge on North Chenango Street over Birdsall Brook in Greene will be closed on May 12th, and will remain closed for 3 to 5 months. A Windsor man has pleaded guilty to Robbery in the 3rd degree. According to the Broome County District Attorney, Scott Frost admitted he stole a motorcycle and threatened to shoot the owner while he was on parole for a burglary in 2014 in Tioga County. Frost will be sentenced in December 2022 and faces two to four years.
The Raymond Corporation will kick off its 8th annual Manufacturing Day event, Celebrating a Century of Innovation, on Friday. This year is the 3rd year Raymond’s Manufacturing Day will be an entirely virtual event. Recently, State Police have seen reports that someone from a “607” area code is contacting citizens and seeking donations. Anyone who receives one of these phone calls, do not give out your personal information and hang up.

The suspects & the stolen items were found in Binghamton, all 4 face court action shortly.

Chenango County Public Health confirmed their 84th COVID-19 attributed death today. Chenango County Public Health has 105 active cases, including 33 vaccinated cases; they have 277 quarantined, & 2 hospitalized. Only 57% of Chenango County Residents have had at least one dose of a COVID vaccine, more Pfizer vaccine clinics are expected to be scheduled next week, more information is available by calling 337-1660.
The Broome County Health Department announced that they have had to reopen their rapid COVID testing site. Residents can get tested on weekdays from 3:00 to 6:00 PM by appointment only, in front of the health department on Front Street in Binghamton. The announcement follows that the rapid increase in COVID cases in the county has once again increased demand for the testing, as some local health care providers were becoming overwhelmed with testing requests. The New York State Department of Labor today announced the state’s $15 minimum wage phase-in will continue, with the next stage taking effect December 31, 2021. The minimum wage will rise to $15 per hour on Long Island and in Westchester, matching the New York City minimum; the minimum wage should rise to $13.20 per hour in the rest of the state.
Bassett Healthcare Network announced some temporary changes to services beginning today. Officials reported that Outpatient Laboratory blood draws are now by appointment only, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Patients can schedule an appointment online at mybassetthealthconnection.org or call 547-3700. Also, the Cooperstown’s Convenient Care location is temporarily closed; those services are available in Oneonta with more information available at 433-6400. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the implementation of booster doses into the State's COVID-19 vaccination program Monday. In accordance with CDC's recommendations, individuals must have received the Pfizer vaccine for their initial vaccine series at least six months ago will be eligible, along with those who have underlying health issues. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies patrolling State Highway 10 in the Town of Delhi last Friday night, observed and stopped a vehicle that was being operated erratically, crossing the solid yellow center lines. 41-year-old Melissa Pycroft of Hobart was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or more, failure to keep right and moving from lane unsafely. Pycroft was released on appearance tickets directing her to appear in the Town of Delhi Court on a later date to answer the charges.
The American Red Cross is experiencing an emergency blood and platelet shortage and must collect 10,000 additional blood products each week over the next month for the blood supply to recover and meet hospital and patient needs. Chenango County Public Health confirmed their 84th COVID-19 attributed death today. Chenango County Public Health has 105 active cases, including 33 vaccinated cases; they have 277 quarantined, & 2 hospitalized. The Broome County Health Department announced that they have had to reopen their rapid COVID testing site. Residents can get tested on weekdays from 3:00 to 6:00 PM by appointment only, in front of the health department on Front Street in Binghamton. The announcement follows that the rapid increase in COVID cases in the county has once again increased demand for the testing, as some local health care providers were becoming overwhelmed with testing requests. The New York State Department of Labor today announced the state’s $15 minimum wage phase-in will continue, with the next stage taking effect December 31, 2021. The minimum wage will rise to $15 per hour on Long Island and in Westchester, matching the New York City minimum; the minimum wage should rise to $13.20 per hour in the rest of the state.

The State Health Department has released updated statistics in the last week that greatly increased the number of deaths of Nursing home residents to over 12,700, by including those who died from COVID while in a hospital. This Afternoon, DeRosa clarified her statements by stating that Governor's Office had asked State Lawmakers to wait for the administration’s response on Nursing Home deaths, so the administration could first resolve the Federal inquiry, she said that they were fully transparent with the Federal & then state inquiries in that order. State Police arrested 33 year old Carlos Smith of Utica, for torturing, injuring & failing to feed 6 dogs left at his former residence in the town of Davenport in December. Smith was officially charged with 6 counts of failing to provide proper sustenance to animals; a warrant was issued for his arrest, which occurred late Thursday afternoon.
State Police located 15 year old Trevor Mallory in the City in Binghamton in good health; he was turned over to the custody of a family member. Mallory was reported missing on February 2nd, where he was last seen leaving the town of Colesville in a vehicle. State Police updated their information regarding Thursday's crash of a garbage truck on State Route 17 in the town of Windsor. The unidentified 64 year old driver from the Bronx was traveling at an unsafe speed, and made an unsafe lane change, he went through the guiderail and into the median, struck an earth embankment, the truck continued & the tractor became detached & overturned and came to rest in the median between the over passes for State Line Road. The driver was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, the truck is registered to Lae Transport Corp in Newark, New Jersey, the investigation is continuing.

SU basketball coach Jim Boeheim struck and killed a man with his vehicle Wednesday walking outside a vehicle in the middle of the road on Interstate 690 in Syracuse shortly before 11:30 pm Wednesday night. Syracuse Police said that Boeheim struck 51 year old Jorge Jimenez of Syracuse as he stood on the side of the road. Field Sobriety Tests on Boeheim & Jimenez were negative for Alcohol, Boeheim was taken to Syracuse police headquarters, where he was questioned and released. The investigation and accident reconstruction efforts are continuing.

Deputies arrested 28 year old Michelle Gules of Wynantskill, It was determined that Gules had a suspended driver’s license for failure to pay a previous fine, she was issued tickets for Aggravated Unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 3rd degree, unlicensed operator and speed in zone. Gules was released on the tickets and is to appear in the Town of Meredith Court at a later date.
The Eastern League of Professional Baseball has announced
the league will be changing their playoff format from a full season format to a
split season format. Under the new format the first place team from each
division during both the first and second halves of the season will qualify for
the postseason. This change will go into effect immediately, starting with the
2019 season. The Rumble Ponies kick off
the 2019 campaign on the road April 4 against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

are being issued to consumers of "Energy Plus" as a result of a 2017
settlement. Attorney General James also
announced a settlement with "Ambit Energy", both companies engaged in
deceptive practices that resulted in consumers paying more for energy services
when they were promised savings. Over
$700,000 in payments is being distributed to eligible current and former
customers of Energy Plus stemming from a 2017 settlement with the Office of the
Attorney General. Ambit previously agreed to provide more than $20 million in
refunds to its customers in a class action settlement, so Attorney General
James did not seek restitution in that case.
Morgan Hungerford of East Meredith is the current Delaware
County Dairy Princess, she has been chosen as one of 3 ambassadors for the
dairy industry in New York State.
Hungerford was named the 2nd alternate for the state at a pageant held

to an area hospital. Mendez is being
held for court action in Haverstraw town Court.

in Broome County Court for criminal sexual act, for engaging in sexual conduct
with a girl less than 14 years of age, according to Broome County District
Attorney Steven Cornwell. State Police had
arrested Kasmarcik and Derrick Cervini last year for allegedly sexually
assaulting and raping 3 children from 2014 to June 2016. Kasmarcik will be sentenced on May 22nd.

29 year old Corey Robinson was sentenced to 15 years in state prison today in Broome County Court, for the shooting of 46 year old Erika Smith-Cunningham, in Johnson City on Easter Sunday. Robinson had been at a house party at 92 Crocker Avenue in Johnson City; he left after a fight broke out & returned later & fired a shotgun into the building, fatally striking Smith-Cunningham. Robinson fled to Georgia; he was extradited back to New York to face prosecution.
U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced $225,000 in federal funding for the Oneonta Municipal Airport. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation and the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program. The funding will be used to purchase new snow removal equipment.
The Binghamton Devils have announced their 2018 training camp schedule at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena. Players have their first on-ice practice at 10:30 AM Tomorrow morning. Training camp will run through Friday, the Devils invite the general public to Open Practice on Thursday; the doors will open at 10:00 AM. The Devils will open up the 2018-19 season at home on Saturday, October 6 at 7:05 p.m. against the Toronto Marlies.
The State Department of Health should continue to improve how it informs the public of potential hazards in public drinking water systems, according to an audit released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. New York has 9,155 public water systems, which serves 95% of all New Yorkers. The audit stated that when water safety violations occurred, the Department did not always take appropriate or timely action to hold water systems accountable for required follow-up, such as notifying the public. Of the 126 water safety violations that auditors sampled, the Offices lacked evidence that system operators
notified the public 46% of the time, 21% were issued late. DiNapoli recommended that they prioritize actions to regulate emerging contaminants with known adverse health effects; and to make sure that safe drinking water is distributed to the public through a robust monitoring program that reports issues to the public in a timely fashion.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Town of Sherburne man for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident, and additional vehicle and traffic law violations. Deputies arrested 32 year old Kyle Lafever of Sherburne following a 1 car motor vehicle accident on County Road 32 in the Town of Norwich. Lafever allegedly was involved in 2 separate motor vehicle accidents and leaving the scene of the first accident. In the second motor vehicle accident deputies responded to the scene and administered first aid to Lafever. He was found to be in possession of heroin and a hypodermic syringe. He was transported to Chenango Memorial Hospital. Lafever is scheduled to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Town of Plymouth man for Burglary and Grand Larceny in the Town of Pharsalia. 23 year old Austin Demuth of Plymouth is accused of unlawfully entering the residence of a victim and stealing several items, valued at more than $1,000, in July. Demuth was located hiding in his residence in the Town of Plymouth, he was arraigned in the Town of North Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail. The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected.

Jeremy Coates of Oxford was sentenced today in Chenango County Court to to life in prison without the possibility, for the murder of David Green in September 2016. Melissa Crispell, pleaded guilty to robbery in connection with the Green case, she was sentenced today to 15 years in prison with 5 years of post-release supervision.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 49 year old Daryl Webster of Walton for Criminal Possession of a Firearm, following a Mental Health complaint and investigation. Deputies discovered that Webster was in possession of a firearm without a valid New York State Pistol License, he was arraigned in the Village of Walton Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. Webster is scheduled to return to the Town of Walton Court at a later date to answer the charges.
After six rounds 13 year old Melodie Loya of Bainbridge misspelled a word, and ended her 2nd consecutive run in the Scripps National Spelling Bee Thursday in Maryland. Loya made it to the final round for the 2nd straight year, before a misspell of a word.

Lawmakers passed budget bills late into the night Friday, finishing off a 168 billion dollar State spending plan, local State Senator Jim Seward comments:

Seward said that the budget also tackles the sexual harassment issue with tougher penalties, and deals with a 4.4 billion dollar deficit.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 34 year old Gary Scofield of the Walton for Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, following an investigation of a domestic incident in Walton. Scofield allegedly applied pressure to the neck of another person during the domestic incident, in the presence of a child less than the age of 17. Scofield was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $2000 cash bail or $4000 in bond.
The trial of Jeremy Coates began today in Chenango County Court, Coates is accused of murdering disabled Veteran David Green, by blunt force trauma to the head, in green's Oxford home in September 2016. Melissa Crispell pleaded guilty last May to 1st degree robbery for her involvement in the crime.
Governor Cuomo announced the passage of the bill Saturday to prevent gun violence. According to the law, New York citizens convicted of domestic abuse must turn in their rifles, shotguns, and other firearms. The original law only barred abusers from owning pistols or revolvers. Statistics show that perpetrators of domestic violence accounted for about 54% of mass shootings between 2009 and 2016.
State Police, Johnson City Police & the Broome County District Attorney's Office are investigating the fatal shooting of 46 year old Erika Smith Cunningham of Binghamton, and the injuring of 2 other people, at 92 Crocker Avenue in Johnson City around 6:30 Sunday morning. Anyone with information related to the shooting should call the Johnson City Police Department at 798-9318.
State Police reported that several people were killed in a house fire at 2753 State Route 145 in East Durham today. Several Fire departments responded, the road has been closed off & the fire is under investigation, more information will be released pending family notification.
A Public Scoping Session for the preparation of an environmental impact statement for the Oneonta Rail Yards Project will be conducted on Wednesday at 6:30 pm at Riverside Elementary School in Oneonta, and on Thursday at 6:30 PM at Greater Plains Elementary School. Oneonta City officials are planning to redevelop the railyards for future use & add jobs to the local economy.

The budget closes a $4.4 billion deficit and it gives employers the option to shift to a payroll tax, to protect employees from the federal tax changes.
25 year old Joshua Underwood pleaded guilty to 1st-degree manslaughter for the death of Mark Morrison; he was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Otsego County Court on Friday. Underwood called 911 on January 1st 2017 and reported that he had killed Morrison in his Main Street Oneonta apartment; he also tried to set fire to the apartment unsuccessfully to cover up the murder.
23 year old Kevin Perry of Laurens is facing 2 counts of 1st-degree murder and 2 counts of 2nd-degree murder for the December 12th shooting death of his parents in their Laurens Trailer. Perry was scheduled to go before a judge for a pre-trial conference on Friday, he was presented with a plea deal in exchange for a 25-year prison sentence, Perry is expected to announce his decision on the plea offer at a later date.
Julian Vancourt-Weis faces charges of attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, in connection with an attack on his girlfriend in her Oneonta Apartment December 8th, on Friday he was offered a plea deal in Otsego County Court. Prosecutors offered him a 15 year sentence in exchange for pleading guilty to assault; a decision is expected at a later date.
