The Otsego County Department of Solid Waste & the Arc
Otsego ReUse Center announced the opening of a polystyrene recycling facility
now available to county residents.  The
facility is located at the ReUse Center, 23 Duane Street in Oneonta.  Material must be delivered in a clear plastic
bag directly to staff.   Accepted items
include white meat trays, white cups, white take-out containers, egg cartons
& packaging used to protect electronics.

Governor Cuomo announced that the U.S. Small Business Administration has granted his request for a Physical Disaster Declaration for businesses and households in several Counties, including Broome, Chenango & Delaware Counties that were affected by severe storms and flash flooding on August 13th through the 15th. The assessment confirmed that there was major damage to 20 homes and 7 businesses in Broome County totaling $717,000, and minor damage to 205 homes and 14 businesses totaling $1,228,000. The SBA low-interest loans can help affected residents and businesses make timely repairs & remove debris. Applications by calling the SBA's Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955, Loan applications can be downloaded at www.sba.gov/disaster.

State Police at Troop C in Sidney announced that an elderly woman Otsego County woman, who had been reported missing, was found safe Wednesday afternoon. 89-year-old Belle Lord of the town of Otsego had left in a Toyota convertible with North Carolina plates, she was found in good condition and was returned to her family.

The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce announced their annual small business and Entrepreneurial spirit award recipients. Directive, of Oneonta, is the recipient of the Key Bank, 19th Annual Small Business of the Year Award; The Otsego ReUse Center is the recipient of the Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield Breakthrough Business of the Year. The award winners will be honored at the Chamber’s Small Business Banquet at The Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown, beginning at 5:45 PM today.

The 1st Annual "Pull For A Cure" event will be held this Saturday at the Trout Creek Fire Department, with a variety of events scheduled to raise money for Sidney Center resident Joshua Newell, who is battling cancer, spokesperson Melissa Oakley explains:

The Otsego County Conservation Association’s annual “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” Garage Sale will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 29 and 30 in the Cooperstown Farmers’ Market building at 101 Main Street (in Pioneer Alley), Cooperstown. Governor Cuomo announced the Salvation Army in the City of Binghamton has broken ground on its new North Side Job Training and Support Center. The new $6 million center will create up to 40 new full-time jobs and will provide additional services to residents in need. The new center will also provide child-care and senior services.

All 5 announced Major Party candidates for the 19th congressional district seat will participate in a forum on Tuesday at the Oneonta High School. The Otsego County Farm Bureau sponsors the forum; it will run from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. The republican candidates are John Faso, Andrew Heaney, and Bob Bishop; the democratic candidates are Zephyr Teachout, and Will Yandik. The event is free and open to the public.

Springbrook announced today that they would host a career fair on May 8th from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Sidney Civic Center. Springbrook will be opening two new Community Homes in Sidney, NY and they are looking for individuals to build new residential teams.
