Over 300 members of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers local 1529 voted to approve a new 3 year Contract from Amphenol of Sidney this afternoon. Union Representative Kevin Weidman told WCDO News the issues of sick leave, & wage increases were included and the 2 tier system has been altered & will be phased out. 3rd shift workers will return to work at the Sidney facilities at 11:00 PM tonight.
Governor Kathy Hochul joined Acting Superintendent Steven Nigrelli in honoring 218 new New York State Troopers as they graduated today from the 211th session of the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy. The ceremony was held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. Today's graduation increases the State Police ranks to 4,742 sworn members. 29 of the new Troopers will report to Troop C in Sidney.
Delaware County Deputies were dispatched On April 29th to a report of a burglary at Herman’s Trailer Sales in the Town of Walton, followed by additional reports of larceny and burglary from the same location, The Investigation revealed that rare antiques and jewelry stolen from the Herman's property were sold for cash at a pawn Shop in Utica. Items were recovered from Utica, Sidney Walton, Unadilla & South New Berlin, Deputies arrested 39-year old Francis Lupo of Walton & 44-year-old Luke Lupo, of South New Berlin Petty Larceny, criminal mischief & Burglary Charges, and 33-year-old Mistyblue Decker of Hancock for criminal mischief and petty larceny. All 3 were released & will appear in Walton Court at a later date.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 48 year old Wayne Brostek of Schenevus following a traffic stop in the Town of Milford on October 5th. Brostek was charged with Operate out of interlock restriction, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Operating Without Insurance among several other similar charges, Brostek was issued uniform traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Milford Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 23 year old Anna Genao of Franklin for Aggravated Unlicensed Operator charges as well as other violations following an investigation of a motor vehicle accident involving property damage and personal injury in Davenport on October 13th. Genao & other occupants were transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, after an investigation, Deputies arrested Genao, she was processed and released, & will appear in Town of Davenport Court at a later date.
The Board of Directors of Commerce Chenango announced the selection of Sal Testani as the organization’s new president and chief executive officer. Testani is a Norwich native , he has more than 16 years of experience as a senior leader with both MeadWestvaco and ACCO Brands in Sidney, & he will assume his new role on November 1. Testani will appear at today's Commerce Chenango Open House at their South Broad Street Norwich office.
The Delaware County Board of Elections reminds county residents that the GENERAL ELECTION is Tuesday November 8, from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Those who need an absentee ballot must have the application in to the County Board Office by October 24th, and they may also apply on the state portal at absenteeballot.elections.ny.gov; by oct6ober 24th. State Attorney General Letitia James released a report on the role of online platforms like 4chan & Twitch in the Buffalo mass shooting at a Tops grocery store where 10 Black individuals were killed and 3 others were injured. James' Office reviewed thousands of pages of documents and social media content to examine how the alleged shooter Payton Gendron of Conklin used online platforms to plan, prepare, and publicize his attack. The report also said that the platforms lacked of oversight, transparency, and accountability in allowing hateful and extremist views to proliferate, leading to radicalization and violence. Gendron faces numerous state & federal charges in connection with the shooting, and could face the death penalty if convicted on the federal charges.
Commerce Chenango will host an open house today as part of "Support Your Local Chamber Of Commerce Day, Commerce Chenango Director of Communications & Tourism Audrey Robinson comments:

$13 million has been awarded to protect clean water across New York State and help New York's farmers continue their work to mitigate the impacts of climate change. In the Southern Tier over $1.5 million dollars will be sent to 5 entities to oversee the projects, the details can be found at agriculture.ny.gov.

Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies responded today to a fatal 1 car motor vehicle accident on State Highway 206 near the intersection of County Road 2 in the Town of Greene. The investigation revealed that 19-year-old Kaleb Lorows of Willet lost control, left the roadway & struck a guard rail & then a tree. Lorows was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation into the cause of the motor vehicle accident is ongoing.
The Grandparent scams are being reported to local law enforcement again, where people call elderly residents, and relay an elaborate scenery in order to get money to bail out a loved one, Delaware county Sheriff Craig DuMond explains:

Sheriff DuMond said that if people get this kind of phone call, they should hang up & should never give out personal banking information to callers they do not know.
Governor Hochul is directing State Police to ramp up enforcement, Increase Interstate Coordination, and Partner with Law Enforcement in High-Theft Areas, to cut down on the theft of Catalytic Converters from vehicles. The governor signed new Legislation this year to impose restrictions on the Purchase, Sale, or Possession of Catalytic Converters & she Urges Local Governments To Access $20 Million in Funding for License Plate Readers, Surveillance Cameras, Other Anti-Theft Technology. The converters sell for between $100 and $300 per unit on the black market.
The Heavy Metal Haul Out fundraiser by Waste Recovery Enterprises for Delaware Valley Humane Society was a huge success in September, according to society Director Erin Insinga:

This week, Hartwick College hosts a three-day celebration that includes a conversation with a former U.S. presidential advisor, an academic symposium addressing the country’s rural-urban divide, a reception, athletic contests, and special events in celebration of the installation of Darren Reisberg as its 11th president. The Inauguration of President Reisberg, will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, under a tent on Frisbee Field.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 62 year old William Gates of Morris following an investigation into sexual abuse of minors. Gates was charged with Criminal Sexual Act, sexual abuse, Aggravated Sex Abuse, 3 counts of Forcible Touching & 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Gates is accused of inappropriate contact with 2 minors who were residing at the residence, also, the investigation determined that Gates subjected an adult victim to multiple instances of sexual abuse by forcible compulsion. Gates was arraigned in Otsego County Centralized Arraignment and remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail or $25,000 bond.
Amphenol officials announced that they were committed to making sure that their employees are well compensated & they were surprised that the recent contract proposal was rejected in Saturday's vote, after weeks of discussions and intensive negotiations, with representatives of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 1529. Union Representative Kevin Weidman told WCDO News why 80% of the union members that voted, voted to strike:

Weidman said that union members on the picket lines are humbled by the community support, Amphenol's officials stated that they are committed to immediately working to negotiate a reasonable resolution with the IAM.
The State Health Department reminds New Yorkers to get caught up on their flu vaccines & get vaccines & booster to protect against COVID 19. COVID positivity rates were still high statewide at 6.79%, and 9.4% in the Southern Tier. Patient Hospitalization were back up to 2,731, the number of Patients in an ICU was at 274, and Patients on ventilators are still are 92, there weer 25 death attributed to COVID last Friday.

Ganesh Ramsaran of New Berlin will be granted a new murder trial soon in Chenango County Court, the decision follows the claim that Ramsaran received incompetent counsel from his attorney Gil Garcia, who had inflated his litigation experience & was eventually censured by the Supreme Court of New Jersey. In 2014 Ramsaran was found guilty of killing his estranged wife Jennifer in December 2012 & was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison, he has been appealing his conviction & sentence for 8 years.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced that a new VA clinic will be opening soon at the Foxcare Center in Oneonta, replacing the one that has been in Bainbridge for several years, Peter Potter of the Albany Veterans Affairs office said that the clinics usage is examined every 5 years, and usage of the Bainbridge clinic was down:

Potter said that the opening date for the new VA Clinic at Foxcare will likely be early December, and the Bainbridge office will remain open until the Friday before the Oneonta Office opens.
The Latest Marist Poll shows incumbent Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul leading her Republican Lee Zeldin by 10% in the most recent polling. Hochul led by a 51% to 41% margin, 8% said that they voting for another party's candidate or were undecided. In the U.S. Senate contest in New York, Democratic incumbent Charles Schumer (54%) has a wide lead over his Republican challenger, Joe Pinion (34%)
The State Department of Health today released its County Opioid Quarterly Report for October 2022, showing a 14% increase in 2021 overdose deaths involving opioids over the prior year. More than 30,000 naloxone administrations have been reported to the Department based on reports received through September 2022. The full report can be found at health.ny.gov.
The Governor's Office & the state DMV announced that hundreds of people received tickets during the recent seasonal crackdown on Fake ID's used to purchase alcoholic beverages. 580 fake documents were seized and a total of 505 tickets were issued, with an additional 46 tickets issued for violations of the Alcohol Beverage and Control Law.
The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce will have their next regular meeting tomorrow. Tuesday's meeting will begin at 7:30 am at the back of Bob's Diner. Chamber members are encouraged to attend.

The International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers Local #1529 voted on Saturday to strike against Amphenol in Sidney following the latest 3 year contract proposal. The vote was held Saturday morning at the Sidney School District, picket lines have been set up at the Amphenol plants. The Union's Website stated that the 700 striking workers are looking for a contract that improves healthcare and paid sick leave benefits, and eliminated the two-tier wage system currently in place.
Attorney General Letitia James today announced that 88 firearms were turned in to law enforcement at a gun buyback event hosted by her office and the Binghamton Police Department. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) accepts, working and non-working, unloaded firearms in exchange for compensation on site. To date, Attorney General James has taken more than 3,600 firearms out of communities through gun buyback events since 2019.
State tax receipts totaled $58.4 billion through the first half of State Fiscal Year, exceeding the latest projections from the 1st Quarterly Update, according to the September State Cash Report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Personal income tax receipts totaled $33.2 billion and were $2.4 billion above the state Division of the Budget’s latest financial plan projections through September 30.

The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in the State increased over the month by 19,700, to just under 8 million in June 2022. The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will host a New York 19th Congressional Candidate Forum with a question and answer session featuring Republican candidate Marcus Molinaro and Democratic candidate Patrick Ryan. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the opening of the initial intake tool to help small businesses determine their eligibility for the COVID-19 Capital Costs Tax Credit Program. The $250 million COVID-19 Capital Costs Tax Credit Program will support small businesses that made investments to comply with emergency orders and regulations or to increase public safety in response to COVID-19. The State Health Department reported a polio case, in Rockland County, it's the 1st case of Polio in the U.S. in nearly a decade. Officials did not offer details yet on who the resident is, whether the person was vaccinated or their current condition. In 1979, polio was declared eliminated in the U.S., however travelers with polio have brought infections into the U.S., the case was in 2013.

Friends of Recovery of Delaware and Otsego Counties announced that they have the first Narcan vending machine available locally. The vending machine offers Naloxone kits that with 2 doses of Narcan nasal spray, it is located at The Turning Point of Otsego County at 22 Elm Street in Oneonta.

Upstate Shredding's Southern Tier Tuesday's philanthropic team announced that Getthere Mobility Management is this week’s winner of a $2,000 grant. Getthere is a program from the Rural Health Network of South Central New York to get people to appointments who have no other way to get to them.
